Wrathful Demigod

She turned a glance to the young woman beside her, giving her hand a gentle pat where it rested on her own arm. "Nonsense, you look beautiful," her voice was softly reassuring. "And I believe the word you are looking for is simply refined." A tap was delivered to Mei's cheek. "Close though." She was doing better with her vocabulary and speech patterns but there was still the occasional slip up. The effort was clear though, and Shin-Mu never lost patience with the other girl or made her feel silly for misspeaking. It was true you learned from mistakes, but fear of embarrassment stunted progress. There would be mistakes, of that Shin was certain, but she wanted A'Meiya to grow and flourish, not recede into old habits.

It was selfish perhaps, but the dark noble could see in A'Mei the friend she had always wanted and needed, but was never fortunate enough to meet. She just needed a little molding, and with Shin's attention focused so positively upon her friend it could not linger of the pains of the past.

Least when not faced with the source of some of that pain. As they moved through the crowed Shin-Mu could not help but notice a familiar wash of tanned skin and rose scales along with a magenta braid. Yue Lao, as she had come to learn, and the little conduit on her arm must certainly be the Sarangerel that her new friend was so torn up about. she'd heard about the girl, her appearance, and that cold little scowl did not suit her fragile features.

The proud noble sniffed sharply, meeting those ghostly pale eyes and smiling in satisfaction. Her own spring graze narrowing coldly. Her's was a cruel sort of look, meant to needle and p***k at the other girl as they moved within the crowed. It was short lasting though, as she was keen to keep A'Meiya from noticing the pair at all. Instead she pointed a delicate finger in the direction of a Kite kiosk, steering her towards it.

"Of course we can, so long as we remember our manners and poise." While it hadn't been on her mind when chosing the garment for her friend, she realized now the fancy attire would help A'meiya remember herself so she would not become too wild.

Kiran chuckled at the chittering monkey, amusement lighting his eyes as he watched the monkey swing its legs up to cling to his arm. He had to lower his arm slightly to avoid being whacked in the face with ever swish of the monkey's tail. He glanced about until his gaze landed on Yue along with Sara, both of whom were making their ways over toward him. He was surprised to see them both together, unaware that they knew each other. But it seemed clear that they must know each other with the way Yue was holding Sara's hand as they approached him.

He heard Sara's question but continued on with the joke. "Isn't she just the loveliest?" he asked with a bright grin as he lightly scratched the monkey's head. "Our eyes met, and it was just love at first sight." He leaned his head down to give the monkey a big old kiss right on top of his head. All joking aside, he turned back to them. "I don't suppose you know the owner?"

Kiran nodded. "I remember. How is Nori? Did he enjoy the fish, even if they'd fallen on the ground?" It was nice to see another familiar face among the crowd, even if they had only had that one brief encounter in the past. He heaved a sigh. "Sadly, only with some of our furry or feathered creatures." He pretended to look sad or distraught over this thought. He was actually much happier keeping away from the one falcon in his father's mew. And he had little desire to try and make nice with the beast of a bird. "Not all animals are as friendly as this one." He pet the monkey on his head.

Luckily for A'Meiya she was an idiot, and a unobservant idiot to say the least. Even though she was obviously scanning the crowds for signs of familiarity she couldn't pick out Sara, Yue or even Kirian if they slapped her in the face (which at this moment could easily happen!) Satisfied she wasn't going to bump into them any time soon she let herself relax slightly, leaning in to Shia-Mu softly as she spoke. The soul conduit never failed to put her mind at ease and she smiled wishfully. This girl was so intelligent and wise, she was everything Mei wanted to be!

"Haha, I am sorry, there are too many words in the world I can't keep up!" she exclaimed with a giggle, her eyes watching the banners and decorative lanterns floating softly against the wind. The town did look beautiful and so distracted by its beauty she didn't even feel Shin-Mu's body stiffen briefly as she looked in the opposite direction to Mei. It wasn't a lot mind you, but enough for someone who was clinging onto her arm to notice the restriction take hold, yet as usual it didn't seem to draw the oblivious students from her own world. Her light green eyes watched the sky line for any hint of a kite as they walked away from the other group, happily distracted. But the simple mention of manners and poise ran though Mei like an electric shock as they continued to talk and she instantly stood up straighter, stomach in, chest out (what chest?) and head held high. She was slowly learning.

"Of course Lady Shin Mu" she said with an air of posh-ness, trying to sound like the lady she ought to be. It failed. As the excitement took hold she quickly brought her hands together to clap loudly, a small jig taking over her feet as she bounced up and down beside Shin-Mu.

"Eeeiii I can't wait! We are sure to win Shin-Mu! I just know it!"

Yue laughed. Sara really had become bold with her, and that made it all the better for her. "That sounds like a bet, Sweetpea. We'll see what I can't overcome," Yue winked. It took a second for Sara to understand her joke about Hime-san, but once she did, her contribution made Yue proud of Sara. The Mongolian was definitely well-suited to her company, and Yue treasured her as a friend. Yue felt Sara get closer and lean her head on her shoulder, and Yue felt a tenseness. She scanned the crowd, and saw that it was Shin Mu and... Mei? That Sara stared at with such ferocity.

Yue reached one hand up and ran it through Sara's hair, stroking her hair gently like Chichi did when Yue was younger. Yue, for her part, didn't even give the Nobles the time of day. It was a celebration, and she would keep Sara safe if they approached, but she had no desire to seek out trouble.

She snorted when Sara suggested Hime-san seemed like he was in a good mood. His little monkey eyes glared daggers into anyone who made eye-contact, and he was trying to rend Kiran's arm from his body, but he was simply too weak. So it looked adorable, like he was cuddling.

Kiran, of course, participated in the joke. Yue was filled with contentment in that moment, to have friends with whom she could be herself. "Hime-san? Friendly?" Yue burst into such painful laughter that she was doubled over. Hime-san detached from Kiran, reluctant, and chittered all the way back to Yue, latching onto her face. She made some muffled sounds between irritation, laugher and suffocation as she pried him off. "I guess that's one way to calm me down, miserable Princess," she told him. He circled around to sit on her shoulder and pout. No one was fearing him, today. Perhaps he had lost his touch?

"So... who else is hungry?" she asked, rubbing her grumbling stomach.

"Nori is well, proud and roaming the estates back home as always. He must have liked the fish, he would not let Ryuu or Hitsumi get anywhere near it. So is the life of the pack master." She stated, Nori and Sara had been spending less and less time together over the last couple of weeks. She had started to explore on her own and since she was always in the company of others saw no need to bring the wolf along for protection. Her pale green eyes followed the movements of the monkey, chuckling slightly as it then turned its attention to Yue. When he finally settled down on her shoulder Sara lifted up her hand and tickled him behind the ear.

"Aww, we all love you really, you are a good Princess. Are you hungry too? Do you want some food?" She talked to the monkey in a tone that she reserved for toddlers and really young children, she never got to talk like this to the wolves. Hua had always told her that they were war machines not pets and should be talked to as the soldiers that they are. However Sara could vent her maternal instincts on Hime-San and that made her happy.

"I am a little, though I do not know if we have time to get a meal before the race starts. Do you see any stalls selling snacks?" She asked in reply to Yue's question, she could not remember if she had bothered with breaking her fast this morning. The first thing she remembered was being at a table showing the children how to make their own kites. Though now it came into conversation she realised just how hungry she was, she must start remembering to eat. Yet since all the drama which had occurred Sara had been trying to keep herself busy, it was funny how little things like food and sleep suffered when you were trying to keep yourself distracted. Her eyes scanned the ground until she saw a booth near by selling sticks made up of fried sea food and fried vegetables. "We could always get some fried squid if you guys like it, I guess its best if our rumbling stomachs do not give away our position in the race." She stated with a small smile.

Drama avoided, Shin allowed herself to relax at A'Meiya's side, delicate hand coming back to rest lightly on the other girl's arm. Temple coming to rest on on her friend's shoulder as she apologized. "More words then we can ever hope to remember," she offered in patient agreement, a far softer smile replacing the cold smirk she'd directed at Sara. She had no personal vendetta against the other conduit, but she understood the pain of betrayal and lose. She would stand by her friend, and if by some cruel smile she could make the legion girl hurt just a little more, then she would do it, for Mei. Cold, but true. In her hardships and woes the noble lady was developing a side for vindication and cruel satisfaction. It would cost her nothing to rub salt in the wounds of A'Meiya's betrayers.

She was forced to raise her head again as they neared the kiosk and excitement got the better of her companion. Laughing softly in amusement and exasperation even as she gave a small shake of her head. It was not lady like, but Mei's easy excitement was charming. "Remember yourself my dear." The hand on the other girl's arm rose to offer a couple of fond pats before settling again.

"We will certainly give it our all," she agreed, stepping up to the stand to give the hanging kites an appraising glance. Not just any would do. She wanted something of elegance and power.

She found it in a pale, ivory colored kite with sweeping fins and long tails. Calling the salesman, she pointed to it and nodded, dipping slender fingers within the band that cinched her waist to produce a small stack of coins. Exchanging them for the kite and string with a polite "Thank you," before turning to glance at Mei while she made her selection.

Kiran dropped his arm back to his side once the little monkey leaped free of it. He laughed as the monkey attached to Yue's face. "Aw, I guess our love was not meant to be," he said, wiping a pretend tear from his eye.

"Oh?" he responded, turning to Sara. "I guess it's good to be the top wolf." He laughed. "If you ever want to pick him up a little treat, I usually have a couple of little fish that never sell." He usually brought those home with him and sometimes practiced cooking with them. When he could find time to sneak into the kitchen without his mother waving a pan at him to kick him out. He really needed that practice. He was beginning to think he inherited his cooking skills from his mother, except he didn't burn the food as often as his mother.

"I think there were some food stalls back that way," Kiran said as he pointed in the direction opposite to where A'meiya and Shin-Mu were. He hadn't even noticed the presence of the pink haired girl or the elegant girl with her. After his big breakfast, he wasn't feeling all that hungry. But it wouldn't be a bad idea to pocket a few snacks for later. "That would be a terrible way to lose the race," he said with a chuckle as he started walking toward where he thought he saw some food stalls.
