It felt like a dream. Night had listened to all her suggestions for his prom outfit- there was no way they wouldn't be the best-dressed couple. The only thing she worried about now was dancing, which she'd never learnt.
How unbecoming of a fine young lady. Vieve bit her lip, a rare moment of self-doubt. No matter how much she tried dressing up, or how many expensive things she owned, she came from the slums and it probably showed.
"We still have to get you a thank you gift, Vee."
His voice, calm and comforting, pulled her away from her thoughts, and she smiled at him- possibly her first genuine smile tonight- as a thank-you. She let him drag her into the boutique, ice-creams in hand (Night's idea, and a brilliant one; Vee enjoyed any type of treat), and even let him pick out a dress for her, something frilly and black, fringed with orange lace.
Coming out of the fitting room she twirled around and preened, showing off.
"Suitable for a casual event, I think," she remarked, eyeing her own reflection in the mirror. "What d'you think?"

Ah a smile from the elemental! Night really enjoyed the afternoon with her and wasn't upset over the fact that his week of gold dubloons had been spent. It was well worth it and well he did enjoy spending time with someone.
He picked her a dress he thought would suit the elemental's style and when she came out, tried not to drop the ice cream he had bought. She looked extremely cute. He got up, circled her and gave her a goofy thumbs up.
"It looks Awesome Vee, It makes you so much cuter as well! Not that you aren't cute now but it really matches and uh..." He had a slight flush and just gave her a smile. "Do you want it then? Remember its a thank you gift." He nodded over to the cashier before looking back at her.

Of course it does, she thought to herself, grinning. With a figure like mine I'm pretty sure I could pull off anything.
She wasn't too sure what he was thanking her for- spending his money? But Vieve wouldn't hesitate to take advantage of his wallet, or his seemingly kind heart. She couldn't understand how he could bear to give all these things away- did it.. really make him that happy?
"I'll take it." She twirled the skirt again, enjoying the soft swish of the fabric. "You've got a good eye for girls' clothing," she remarked. Vieve meant it as a compliment, of course- not that Night had a lot of experience buying girls' clothes. Walking back into the changing room, she changed back into her old clothes, then joined him at the cashier.
Now.. if she could get some jewelry to match (he seemed to have some coins left), she'd consider this evening appropriately productive. Come to think of it, this was her first time out shopping with someone, and she was glad she'd gone with Night.
That probably just meant "I like how generous you are", but that was also the closest anyone would get to an "I like you" from the fire elemental.

"Nice, Means I get to see you around the school with it." Night smiled again as he handed her the coins to pay for it, with the few that was left over, he thought of one more thing to buy her. It was his treat and well, he didn't mind spoiling her at all. "Hey, do you want to get one more thing?" He winked at her before dragging her off to the last place on his mind.
It was a smaller shop filled with jewelery, and as he counted his coins sighed in relief that he had enough to afford her at least a necklace and a pair of earrings, no matter what the cost in here. "Okay Vee, I think we should get some Earrings and a Necklace." He pointed at all the jewelery and smiled, "One last thank you gift and well, something for you to keep for a long time." He smiled again before looking on his Eyephone for the time. Good they had another half and hour before they really had to be back.
Besides it had only been a short walk, and he wanted to make sure everything would be good for the Prom dance tomorrow. He let his tail swish as he watched her pick from all the options, ahhh the shinies. Ghoul's liked shinies too right? After this trip he really thought so.

Oh, definitely. More things to wear around school meant people probably assuming she was rich; no way she'd keep the same outfit on all the time. Taking the bag from the cashier, she smiled up at Night and thanked him- too soon, apparently, because he was dragging her to another shop.
If this were a dream, she didn't want to wake up. Vieve had walked past this jewelry shop so many times, glancing at their window displays surreptitiously. In her mind she'd already picked out what she wanted- an orange ceylon sapphire and diamond (of course, the diamonds) pendant; something that looked simple, but elegant. As fond as she was of expensive things, clutter never looked classy- this necklace was pricey enough, anyway.
"Just this," the elemental said, indicating the pendant. "My ears aren't pierced anyway." She'd vaguely considered just selling off the earrings he'd offered to buy her, but if word of that got around to him, it was unlikely he'd continue buying her things.
Better to milk a cash cow. Watching almost predatorily as the necklace was packed into a jewelry box, Vieve practically pounced on it when it was handed to her.
The precioussssss. So beautifully shiny. She had no doubt that she'd spend the rest of the night admiring it.
"Should we be heading back, then?"

Night was surprised as she went straight to something, like she had an idea before she come into the store.
"Well that was easy." Night reached over to tug on one of her ear's, definitely overstepping boundaries. "You might wanna change that though, Ears pierced are really pretty on girls." he winked and walked to the counter paying for he gift. He chuckled as Vee clutched it close before smiling at her sadly.
"Yep, Dear lady Vee, Time to head back." He held out his arm for her as the left the maul back to the Academy. He made sure to walk her all the way to her dorm before stopping in front of her door. "So I'll meet you here for Prom?" He smiled at her, "And then we can go together?"

They walked back to the dorms, chatting a little here and there. He hadn't asked too much about her, luckily, and she mostly let him just ramble on.
"I'll see you tomorrow, then," she agreed. "Thank you for tonight- it was really fun." Vieve watched him leave, waving before he turned the corner and disappeared out of view.
Hmm. Surprise shopping trip- more than she could've hoped for. Closing the door, she dumped the bags on her desk, and plucked the necklace out of the jewelry box, dangling it in front of herself. It was a pretty stone, and matched her eyes well. She fastened it around her neck, then headed to the pile of logs on the fireplace and pulled off her skull pin.
Prom tomorrow. Exciting.
