Nuala Xagarath Ankor Are you going to The Gathering, perchance? I thought of heading there, but am tied up this weekend... Yes, that's where I'm heading. Strangely, though, I wouldn't recommend it. The system's awful - I'm mostly there for a change of scenery and to catch up with old friends. Should you see Ella, Rory and other Newcastle players among the 5000, tell them I said Hi. I simply wanted to go for the sake of being involved in an event that size, and because part of the Newcastle society was going. Maybe next year...

I'm now back from the event, totally exhausted and have to get ready for the next leg of my trip. If any of you guys're going to Dragon*Con (Atlanta) this year, just wander into the British Media Track - I'm the only British female on staff there. smile

Nuala Thank you, all! smile I'm now back from the event, totally exhausted and have to get ready for the next leg of my trip. If any of you guys're going to Dragon*Con (Atlanta) this year, just wander into the British Media Track - I'm the only British female on staff there. smile (Sighs) Would be there, if I could afford the air fare... My PC's hard drive is currently dead. I'm typing this from the local library.
Since I have as full-time job to hold down, my access could be severely limited until I can find the time to get my machine to a repair shop. I'm trusting the Mods to do their jobs and everyone else to play nice whilst I'm gone. smile

I now have my PC baclk - although it still sems a bit fragile when it comes to multi-tasking, and will even hang if the screensaver triues to pop up when it's left idle. I've been told to try cleaning up the desktop and rearrange my file structures, so I'll attempt that before I start getting annoyed again.
In the meantime, there's quite a bit here I could reply to, but I won't be able to fit it in all at once. Bear with me whilst I catch up.

can't you back up all your importaint work and reformat it? that's what we had to resort to to make my computer work again.
..although i'd like to work out why my sound isn't working anymore. >>;

Funnily enough, Tilberios and I were just on the 'phone discussing the possibility of me buying a suitably-sized external USB hard drive, backing up everything I've got and just reformating the beastie from scratch. But since I wasn't planning on having to do that after having it fixed, I'm wishing I hadn't bought that 40GBP of DVDs earlier this week. At least I now have a computer that boots and runs, so I'll see what my finances look like closer to the time that my rent's due to come out of my bank account.

Ironically, crashing when you defrag is a sure sign the computer needs defragging, I believe...
Not that that's a lot of help.
But yeah... reformatting'd probably solve the whole malarkey.
