Ah ha, so not undead. The rot wasn't merely a normal physical quality of the creature, and therefore was a symptom. The mange on the other hand couldn't possibly be mange if there were no mites. So then what could it be? That was the big question, and she suspected asking outright would get them nowhere. Maladore and Kasumi were doing a wonderful job of trying to narrow it down though, and the djinn turned to glance at the pair of them, listening intently to what their instructor had to say in response.
She wasn't sure what to ask herself, at least not until Cricket had answered the other two students.

Cricket seemed, well..pleased would have been a strong word for it, but perhaps appeased when the students finished jotting down their observations about the creature. "The creatures FEAR is slightly....off, but it is maintaining it well enough that when it recovers it will be balance again." she answered, smoothing off the cover of the book in her lap before holding it out to the first student to take it. "I am not expecting any of you to heal this minipet. I will leave that to my own devices. I want you to go through this, however, and determine what you think it is and what course of action I should take. Identifying symptoms and deducing the illness is important, and that type of detail orientation will carry over to anything you do." The Book The book itself is quite heavy and has several hundred, mostly over the thousand mark, of various diseases on it. However, there are several pages that have been marked as being of interest. Cricket isn't going to waste her time waiting for her examinees to find what it is that is afflicting the creature. Chiggerot Chiggerot is a minor infection, limited mostly to the skin of a creature. It causes the flesh to be sore, red flaked patches of skin, and loss of fur. A week of FEARointment is plenty to soothe this ailment. FEARCrabs FEARcrabs are highly infectious creatures that do little more than cause discomfort in a small number. Larger numbers can cause the flesh to rot and allows a multitude of other infections, such as lung infections and eye infections which can be highly uncomfortable, but are rarely fatal. This is a type of FEARinfection.* Newmoania Newmoania type of lung infection that makes it difficult for the inflicted to breathe and may lead to other symptoms such as lethargy and fevers. The only cure is to keep the inflicted warm, watch the breathing, and apply supplemental FEAR if needed while letting the affliction run its course. Cheekles Cheekles are a type of pox that form underneath the skin and cause great discomfort to the ill. Pus filled, they are itchy, but tend to pop on contact causing the skin to split open and become infected. Cheekles is a FEARinfection*. Shugger Shugger is a serious ailment. It causes fur and hair loss, red spots on the skin, and infection of the mucous membranes of the body. The ill may cough for long periods of time and occasionally cough up a red pus-y fluid as the body breaks itself down into FEAR. It is recommended the infected be constantly cleaned physically and left in a very clean environment. FEAR supplement is required on an hourly basis as Shugger can cause death if left untreated. *OOC reminder from Sex Ed Redux! FEARinfections should not have FEAR applied to them! biggrin Cricket added with a note; "It is possible the creature is infected with more than one ailment. It is possible I also need to work very quickly on this little one, so make your deduction quickly." She motioned to the pieces of paper she'd given them to write the symptoms on. "Please write your answer down, as to not influence each other's deductions. Once you have and I have seen all of your answers, I will tell you what it is." The OOC Cricket will still entertain any remaining questions held by the examinees, but she won't say anything that betrays the answer to her exam. Also, PM YOUR ANSWER to me. That way you are all making your final calls without pressure from each other's answers.

Jove was the first one to scramble over, and take the book from Cricket, glancing at the earmarked pages. He jotted down a couple notes on his page before passing off the book to the next student who wanted to look at it. Classes would be easier if there were more than one copy of the textbook...
He frowned, making a couple crosses across his page. He would need some more information to rule it out the incorrect options.
He glanced at Cricket, then his notes. Then the other students, and then the minipet. And then back to his notes. Finally with a stubborn "bite-the-bullet" expression he trotted over and put one hand gingerly on the pet, ears perked and alert to any signs of discomfort. If it had FEARcrabs... and he caught it... But touching the thing might reveal whether it had a fever or not, and it would be a safer first step than checking it's mouth for other symptoms. Who knew how the thing would react.
The pup preferred not to think about it, as it would leave him to start wondering if it was more or less uncomfortable than mange.

The creature is cool underneath Jove's touch and actually seems to enjoy the physical contact. It clicks with approval, and Cricket doesn't move to remove his hand from it.

Hadiyya stood as Jove took the book from Cricket, looking over his shoulder and reading along with him as he went over each of the marked ailments. There were a couple that looked fairly promising, but she'd have to test a few things before being absolutely certain.
Following Jove's example the ghoul reached out to stroke fingers down the pet's back, letting the pads linger on the abused skin. It wasn't overly warm to the touch, nor did it seem to be particularly sensitive to touch, at least not their touch.. It had shied away from Cricket's hand though. Curious.
Also curious was the the state of Cricket's classroom. It was a lot cleaner then the last two times she'd stepped foot within it, and that tidiness stood out to her.
Leaning closer to the little beast, she next checked to see if there was any reddish residue on the cot near it's mouth, curious if it had been coughing up anything p***y.

Pursing her lips thoughtfully, the ghoul turned to their teacher. "How long as the poor thing been sick?"

Cricket looks to Yaya at her inquiry, leaning back in her seat as she is no longer babysitting the book being passed around.
"It came into my office this morning, that is as long as I can say with certainty."

She nodded, turning back slowly to look at the sick animal. Head tilting curiouly as she watched it a moment longer. Her mind was pretty much made up on what it was. She couldn't think of any more questions or tests she could cover..
Kneeling once again Yaya balanced her not pad on her knee and began to write out her conclusion. Once it was finished she tore the page from the binds and stepped over to offer it to nurse Cricket. She then took a place off to their teacher's side to watch the others.

Oh, how Malodore wished it and the book could be alone. Together. For a long, long time. But the well-being of a minipet was at stake, and there would be time enough later to request permission to read through the book in its entirety. It waited for the others to read, then took its turn, pondering the symptoms listed and making notes of its own on its notepad.
Hm.
Its fellow students were asking questions, too - good questions. Malodore took that data into account, leaning down to peer at the minipet once more. "Have you given it any care of any kind since it arrived, Infermiera?" it asked, squinting through its lenses at the minipet's skin, trying to figure out if any tell-tale colors were visible through the damage. "Other than placing it it on this cot, naturally."

Kasumi gratefully took the book, biting her lip in remorse for the pitiful creature. They had to do something! She knew Miss Cricket would never let real harm come to the little thing, but still... Kasumi wanted to make the ghost proud, and so she took up the tome and went to find the nearest clear space to sit down and compare her notes. There were a variety of ailments listed, all with a cure or treatment to them, but the students had to pick the right one. Time was of the essence! Her head whipped back and forth between the textbook and her clipboard, the ghost mulling over the possibilities.
She absently chewed a piece of hair, listening to the other students asking questions. "Miss, have you noticed any discharge from the poor creature? Anything from the eyes, nose or ears?"

Malodore frowned inwardly as it looked over its notes. "Grazie," it murmured after Cricket answered its question; it listened attentively to her next answer as well before returning its attention.
But. Time was of the essence. Making a decision, it wrote industriously for a minute, then tore the paper free from its notepad, folded it, and held it out to Cricket. Fresh nervousness settled in the plague doctor's gut. What if it was wrong?
Another thing a doctor had to cultivate. Intelligence, quick thinking, and confidence that its decision was the right one. Undue hesitation could cost, but so could hasty action. Balance was called for.

Jove seemed to almost forget about the notepad as he gave the creature a gentle and friendly scratch. He did love minipets.
Malodore's question, punctuated with the occasional word he did not understand, interrupted his miniature bonding session with the creature and reminded him he had work to do. This was a class, and the creature wouldn't get better with scratches alone. But... was he sure of his conclusion? The part of him that recognized he was only just a beginner was far outweighed by the part of him that bolstered his little pride, and challenged him for perfection along every step of the learning process.
The other ghoul asked something as well, before Jove finally stopped petting the little thing on the cot and scribbled something down on the page. His ears flopped back as he handed it to the nurse, betraying his nervousness.
