"Good. Because I don't have magic REZ power..." she joked, though it was a very light and ...unhumorous joke on Shehk's part. Couldn't blame her, it wasn't the place to be laughing and smiling and laughing. She was sure that West would have been delighted to be in there, however. Punching s**t until it died?
Seemed his forte.
The pricolici released Riley's hand when they approached the shadow, seeming hesitant to attack. She was a canine, she didn't do...leg combat..or arm combat..or much in terms of combat at all outside of trying to chew thing's faces off. She paused, looking towards Hellma, sitting there in her natural form.
Could they transform back into theirs as well?
Shehk would have handled it better, but until she was sure, she simply kicked. She was a FEARleader, she could kick, right? She aimed for the stupid thing's torso...
well...
torso-esque region.

Calder didn't expect Shehk to be so cold to them, but he hadn't had much dealings with the undead ghoul. However, he liked to think their first meeting had been a nice one, but that was long ago. Things changed. Jack! Things were changing RIGHT NOW and it was startling. He chalked it up to the fact that they had used up all the pills in the first few minutes by charging at the shadow, leaving Shehk without any support which made him feel bad for her. It was rather terrible to help someone at the expense to keeping one person from being helped. It was cruel of Hellma to offer only 2 pills and not three. Then it would have been fair, but then again, who was THIS fair?
Unlike the two ghouls with him, Calder wasn't as confident in all of this and may or may not have squeezed Riley's hand a bit too tightly. Whatever macho pep talk he had was pretty difficult after you were batted away when you had first tried to give it your all. It seemed in this case, slow and steady was their best bet in winning the race, and Calder so did love winning races.
He too wondered about changing into his natural form and just hiking up some hooves into the shadow's chest, but he wasn't sure that would just make things worse or get them in trouble. Taking a page from everyone else, he stepped a foot away from Riley and released his grip so that he could kick without hurting any unintended targets. He just hoped his assistance didn't hurt his group like it had during Battle of the Bands.

She could almost laugh.
It was sickeningly satisfying, to feel the simultaneous surge of movement as she emitted the word three, and the three moved in unison to kick the shadow back. It worked, too. That alone filled Riley with the confidence she needed.
Well. She purred out quickly. Let's not waste any more time. On the count of three, we do it again. One, two..
Her expression lifted, and one could guess that, if she had a mouth, a frightening grin would have risen up as she hissed the final number out and struck.
Three.

Shehk was quite grateful to have not been suddenly smote for her last attempt at attacking the shadow. Especially when it was her first time laying a hand on it. She had to hope her luck would keep up, squeezing down on Riley's hand a bit.
Oh.
This was beautiful for her to vent her anger, wasn't it? It was a good thing that Riley wasn't privvy to the thoughts in her head, or else the fact she was imagining the shadow as Nukpana probably would have been.. .... ......
yeaaahhh.
Shehk grinned, kicking again.

Calder was feeling a bit like a cha-cha dancer kicking his legs out in unison with the other ghouls. All they needed was a little Da-Da-dadadada-Da-Da! tune and some frilly skirts and they could make it into a amusing little party, but this was far from fun. While Shehk vented and Riley took pleasure in the creatures pain, Calder wasn't really feeling this fight. He was pissed about getting hit and knocked out of the game, a little disturbed by the fact he not only saved Riley but had been holding her hand just seconds ago. Still, team work was working and he had the feeling that if this continued, it could be over soon in a much more pleasant way than being thrown to the ground. The idea of beating one of Hellma shadows was the glimmering thought that perked his fighting spirit back in gear. He hated her damn shadows. Having on in his skull pin for several weeks hadn't made him chipper about seeing them either. Having one kill him in one blow wasn't improving that mood towards them.
While some creatures growled, Calder only snorted, a puff of air from flared nostrils before he waited for the three.
At the last count, he hiked a hoof up once more.

They were really doing this. This time, Riley did chuckle. It was almost sad, that they hadn't done this from the beginning. Still..
She gave Calder a side glance, and her eyes crinkled around the side.
Maybe things worked out for the best, after all.
She felt Shehk's hand squeezing hers, and returned the favor.
All hope is not lost yet. She hissed, before starting another countdown. One.. two..

Shehk made a face. This was going creepily smoothly, but there was a part of her that got such joy out of imagining she was kicking her now ex-boilfriend. That jerk. That horrendous stupid awful jerk. GRRR!! If nothing else, it was lightening her mood just a bit.
Though she could probably share the cha-cha dancer feeling that Calder had a bit.
Hey!
They all had skirts, technically!
Da da dadadada da daa!
Again, Shehk prepped to kick the damn thing. They'd have to change their tune soon enough.
1...2...3!

He was feeling a little giddy. They were actually doing this. As basic as their tactic was, a simple '1, 2, 3, KICK IT!', it was ACTUALLY working. At no point did he look away from the shadow as of yet, waiting for the slightest indication that it would grow tired of their pot shots and wind up flicking them off one by one, but it remained there, doing nothing more than watching them. It was a bit creepy and annoying, but the kicking helped his spirits. It helped a LOT to improve his skittishness, and he was feeling just as perky as the rest of them, if not a bit wild with the desire to tear this thing to pieces. He did wonder what shadow tasted like. Like black licorice?
Just as the count down started up again, he pressed his hooves down, got some nice balance, and then did as he had done before. A nice little battle rhythm.

Riley wanted to keep that rhythm, and she refused to hesitate any further. As soon as the shadow was brought down by their simultaneous kicks, she got her footing back and let loose yet another countdown. It held within it a surging pride, and an excitement that she'd almost lost when she watched Calder's body flung across the room.
ONE. TWO. THREE.
In her excitement, she kicked out harder, faster, stronger - and perhaps just a touch too soon. She felt the clamp of shadows around her leg, stopping it before the others had managed to even get their hit in..
And the world went black for good.

Oh-SH-!!! Shehk's hand slipped from Riley's as the mindflayer was grabbed and pulled away into the nothingness of the shadow. Shehk looked like she was in a bit of shock for a moment, her nose crinkling up as she growled at the shadow, her tail twitching angrily.
GRRRR!!
Shehk lashed out with some very pathetic fists, but a punch felt less silly than just kicking-it-to-hell.
IN HER ANGER, SHEHK'S RPER ACCIDENTALLY ROLLED 2 DICE INSTEAD OF 1. OOPS.
SORRY SHEHK.
It seemed Shehk was to follow Riley, darkness taking the pricolici in her own anger.

Calder had been expecting to hear 1,2,3 again but was startled to see that Riley wasn't lifting her leg back down. Instead, the shadow curled around her firm leg, pulling it in, and like that, she was gone.
Calder was dumbfounded for a moment, before he stepped closer to Shehk's side. Who was going to do the countdown now? What did they do? Should he....continue? What if they kicked Riley?! He turned to ask Shehk what she thought in time to see her face crease with rage and the undead ghoul raced right at the creature. "WAIT! Don't......."
And just like that, Shehk was gone.
".....leave me alone." Calder's ears dropped as he looked at the empty spaces beside him and then up at the massive, grinning shadow that simply waved at him to bring it. He trotted back a moment, tail flicking and ears back as he looked around. He didn't like this. He didn't want to be the only one left. He was BAD at fighting! Everyone knew that. HE knew that. Maybe they should have counted to four instead of three? Three wasn't a lucky number. No it wasn't. 13 was! Everyone knew that!
Heart beating, he gripped his scarf a moment and tapped one hoof on the ground. This was it. Just him and the shadow. If I get swallowed, I'm SO causing this thing indigestion!
Taking a deep breath, he got into position.
1......
2.....
"THIRTEEN!" And Calder darted at the shadow!
And in similar fashion, the shadow seemed to embrace the pony like a beloved pet and Calder vanished from sight.

Gleaming yellow eyes considered the three students as their bodies began to dissipate. They had done well for a space, even after that pathetic and sappy start. The teamwork...well, hopefully that was a lesson learned and learned well. The shadow creature slowly began to lose it's form, gradually softening and spreading until the room returned to it's previous darkness. With a sigh, the headmistress blew out the single candle, leaving the room pitch black. She couldn't say the three weren't ready to move up, but it was shame that no one had managed to get her pin just yet. Several hours later, when the three reformed in the nurse's office, they would each find a note beside their bed. Professor Hellma Shox You will do better next time, knobs.
