"Yes!" Ruin argued instantly as her mother denied her the nightmare she had been working towards for so long. How could he do this to her? didn't he hear how hard she had been slacking? How little it mean to her? Couldn't he smell how much better the herd would do with her as a beta?!? This was ... inconceivable, she would have to see it wrong...she'd challenge all the stallions in the herd until she was the only suitable replacement. No that sounded perfect.
She was on the verge of whispering this very fact to her mother when he went and continued one. Ruin paused willing to smell what he had to say before issuing her request. Her one good ear flattened slightly though she had to deny that her mother was right, despite her recent attentions to that thorn bitten floozy of a stallion Rowan was a worthy addition to the herd. "Well I didn't suggest that we keep him safe" the mare snorted in irritation, she'd just wanted his job, not his life such as it was.
Sharing the position with Rowan was something to step over and she ground her teeth a few times while she thought about it. "Would I be allowed to start whipping this herd into unfitness ?"

Regret listened quietly for the most part things so far were going very much the way she had anticipated they would, Thanos would of course not depose Rowan - which was fine with Regret, despite thier initial misgivings wit one another she and the pale stallion had come to something of an accord. She might have even continued to stomach Vengence...had the stallion not sired a bunch of normal foals and been allowed to keep them. That stuck in Regrets craw a bit to be honest and even this mild form of revenge would give her a flicker of short lived joy in life.
Of course first she had to cement Ruins role, siding closer to Thanos, Regret rubbed her bony head against his neck, effectively chasing the rats a bit away for a few moments "She is eager to bring war upon the normal horses, she's not even interested in taking a mate at the moment...certainly she is more driven then that grey and his pathetically normal family"

"Wretched beast of a beta, Ruin will do much better at it even if she is hard to understand." War chirped before fleeing into Thanos' mane as his dappled mate came nearer the stallion.
His eyes grew a bright shade of red, indicating a bit of happiness at the situation. Had he still his lower half of his face the black stallion might have even graced them all with a smile. He had went to say something more to Ruin when Regret stepped forward and rubbed her head against his neck. Lowering his head Thanos pushed his bony skull against Regret's check, in a nuzzle. "Her desire for war makes me happy." He told his mate. "You have served me well by giving me such a daughter." Hopefully their other two daughters would step up to the plate soon. They wouldn't have much choice really, Thorn would be beating them all into submission soon enough and perhaps Ruin would help the chestnut stallion in doing so. There was a moment where he considered that perhaps they should have more foals in the future, especially if his daughters were to be heavily involved in the war, it would make sense to breed more.
"Focus, you were in the middle of something." Peace gently tapped the stallion with a paw to get him out of his distracted thinking and return to them.
His head snapped up at War's words and as his eyes dulled a bit Thanos looked towards his daughter once more. "Of course you may whip them into shape. Thorn will be preparing them to move soon. The herd has stayed stationary for far too long, soon we will march across this land and you will help with that." He looked over his daughter, she had grown well, she was on the cusp of adulthood, we body was well muscled and the signs of her lineage were unmistakable. "With Thorn to push them forward, and you and Rowan at my sides as Beta's I know we will succeed." He did not bother to mention Vengeance as beta, there seemed no reason to be, and he wondered if Ruin would pick up on that.

Ruin stamped her bony hoof in near delight as her mother confirmed that she would be allowed to do what she had wished to do for such a short time now - get this herd of diligent creatures moving again. She did know this Thorn beast - she and her siblings had been killed when he was gone and he had only recently left but that did not bother her much, as long as she was willing to do her job then Ruin wouldn't have any troubles with her.
It was bad enough that her mother had seen things her way for once, had acknowledged that she Ruin would be a horrible beta, one of legends...she would spread terror across the lands..she would be infamous! She would even hunt down that little white miscreant of a sibling, the one who had been far to normal and far to scared and deal with him forever along the way. Arching her neck she clacked her skull against Thanos "Bad..very bad! Now what shall be your duties then?" She asked quickly, it would be good to get tarted on those slowly..make sure the rest of the herd became aware of her new position.

"I am sure the others will make you proud as well" Regret told the stallion. It seemed that the deal was practically as good as done so far - now she had only to wait and plant ideas in Ruins head, she might not have gotten the normal foals driven out but she could surely make sure they went through hell in their training..wound up on the front lines in the most dangerous battles of this upcoming war.
She couldn't have her son...she saw no reason why Imbri should be allowed to keep her outsider children. It simply wasn't fair and Regret was tired of thing not being fair. Now with Thano's and Ruins ear...well certainly she could elict some changes that she found satisfying.

"I cannot wait to see her spill the blood of those stupid beasts." War said as she scurried back up Thanos' mane.
"No doubt she will serve the herd proudly." Peace added on. He had a feeling Ruin would make a name for herself in the coming months.
Thanos pushed his skull against Ruin's. Such a good daughter. He would need to look to the two now, to see they took their sisters example to heart. Why if he needed to, he would make all of his children Beta's, for he could have as many as he wished of that rank if they served him well. He paused for a moment to think on what duties Ruin would be picking up now. "You will continue to train with Rowan, and Thorn as well. They can teach you things now that would not have normally be taught to you." Things that only a beta needed to know. "You will patrol the outskirts of our lands, look for the other herds, count their numbers, see just how many we need to defeat to set our hold upon this land. You will also make sure your sisters continue their training, then perhaps one day they can serve me along side you." Until they they would just be another random member of the herd, not worthy of much of his attention.
"Thorn may have certain duties that he wishes you to fill, those you will be as well, for he is your second Alpha." It wouldn't do them any good if Ruin didn't listen to Thorn now that he returned and was in Thanos' good graces again, especially since they planned to move, and do so very soon. Thanos paused, he wasn't sure if that covered everything, beta's had a lot of duties and he couldn't exactly remember all of them right now. Turning his attention to Regret he bumped her with his muzzle. "Can you think of anything else our daughter can do to serve the herd?" He would normally ask Rowan such questions, but surely Regret would know the answers as she did speak to Rowan often enough and knew what the stallions duties entailed.

Ugh less training, well Ruin through she should have expected that and the training wasn't all that good - just time consuming and surely now she could be spending her time on more worthwhile activities. Perhaps the training with Thorn would turn out to be same and therefore a touch more interesting. Besides mother did say that they would have old things to teach her. ruin was cleaver he picked up on things easily so she wasn't to relaxed about any of that.
"I will count their numbers and help their loners!" Ruin promised with a nod of determination "And of course I will see to it that my brothers continue their training, they still have none to learn" More then she did of course for they did not put as much effort into such things as she did. Well wouldn't they just spit up a clump of grass when they found out she was a beta now? "Who shall tell the herd of my recent demotion?"

Regret thought for a moment upon Thanos' question thought to her way of thinking the training that had already been mentioned seemed suitable for now. "Certainly Thorn will teach her battle tactics for times of war..as she is to be a leader now and not merely a soldier then she will need to learn more then mere fighting..but how to position the rest of the herd for best effectiveness against the enemy" She added in - surely Ruin would find such studies fascinating. Anything to do with war got the fillies attention quite well.
"And Rowan will teach her how to lead those horses so that they will liten even when thing get hard....no I think that that training should over just about everything - though perhaps she should spend some time shadowing you as well Thanos, there could be no better teacher of leadership" The mare told him.

His eyes brightened once more. Ruin was making his terribly proud and she had yet to actually even do her first duty as the new beta. Oh yes, this had been a good decision to come to. Why he almost wished this had happened before promoting Vengeance to beta. What had that grey stallion done for him in that time? A whole lot of nothing that's what. Thanos snorted in disgust but then focused once more on the present. "Good, we will need to know how many there are. Surely knowing the sheer volume of worthless blood will drive the others into action." He had no doubt in his mind that Ruin would provide him with the most up to date counts of horses outside of the herd once she had the chance to do so.
"I will announce you promotion tonight. There is much I need to speak to the others about and your move up to beta will be amongst the news." Thanos' attention turned to Regret and he bobbed his head. It wasn't often that Regret spoke her opinion on such things but her words brought a warm feeling to his cold dead heart. She may not look like the others but she knew much about the ways of the herd and how to see things worked out well. "You are wise as ever." He gave Regret a nuzzle. The others had always questioned his choice in mate yet Regret proved on many occasions that she belonged her just like the rest, and this was one of those times. "Your mother makes an excellent point. When you are not training with Rowan and Thorn you will accompany me, then you can see what it is like to truly lead for one day you shall lead." That day was likely a long time off, but it wouldn't hurt for her to learn things now.

Oh following Mother about - what a dismal idea! Ruin rather wished that she had thought of it herself, but the mere fact that it had been ordered was bad enough for her. "Good, the later they know the worse it will go on them" Ruin stated with a brightening of her own eerie red eyes. Sh would plan to take a journey inside the herd lands so that she might get a better idea about how few mortal horses lived outside their lands.
Perhaps she could bring a few hides home as well - like the marvelous coyote pelt that her mother had brought for her father when she was young. "I will learn nothing that I can of course" She told her mother sincerely "There will be much terror in the lands soon"

Regret was pleased...more then pleased really and for a mare like Regret being pleased came so very little that it was almost an unidentified feeling. Through this herd she would find revenge on not only those within the herd who pestered her but those without who had forsworn her..she would lead the Hell Herd straight to the home of her former herd and they would flee in terror and fear...and she would laugh.
It would be a grand time for all, and with the ears of Thanos and ruin then surely she could make sure that she was present when Asher was slain once and for all as he deserved to be. "I think perhaps I shall go to the herd meeting tonight" Regret announced after a few moments - it was not something she often did but tonight...tonight she thought it would be worth while.

Thanos paused to give both his daughter a mate a small nuzzle of approval. He had totally forgotten about who this meeting had first started with him being angered at Ruin for biting her mother. Certainly he would remember soon enough, Regret had this odd effect on his memories, but so now it was forgotten. "I am glad we had this discussion, it has brightened my day." It was hard for Thanos to be happy, but the thoughts of the herd finally making it's move against the land and having his daughter helping to direct them did put that odd happy feeling into his mind. The herd would accept the news he had to tell them, and if they choose to voice their opinion against such things...well then he suppose Ruin and Thorn's hooves would do the rest of the talking for him.
Regret saying that she would attend the meeting tonight pulled him from his thoughts. So rarely did she make her presence known to the others. Pressing his bony nose into her neck he breathed out heavily. "You will stand at my side then, for that is where you belong." She may not be Alpha, but to Thanos she was just as important as one. His eyes swiveled to Ruin again. "And you will stand beside Rowan, your place is with the beta's now, you will not longer have to suffer standing amongst the others." And if some day his two other daughters showed themselves worthy then they might be promoted as well and then they could stand among the beta's too.

Ruin was more then a little bit relaxed at the thought of the meeting this morning, it was finally her time to dull, she would prove to both her father and her siblings who so often spoke ill of her that she was worse then the rest of the herd.
It would be a horrible and dismal morning and ruin was pretty sure that no meeting before or after would compare. "I shall stay and prepare then" She told her mother and father with a slight dip of her head and while she would try to keep the news to herself well...it might leak to a few chosen steeds. doubtless they would think she was telling the truth anyways and being proven wrong by her mother this evening would make the victory all that more sour. Turning about she trotted off with an arch to her neck and bit of high stepping pride to her gait.

Regret watched as Ruin trotted off - despite her odd looks and problematic speech pattern..and perhaps her lust for violence Ruin reminded regret much of herself in younger years..back when she cared about the world and what would become of it. She was determined and driven and demanded to get what she wanted, what she thought would be for the bet and while Regret had never thought to be proud of her half dead children before she could certainly say she was proud of Ruin now.
Of course now the filly had to live up to her new position. Glancing at Thanos she nodded her head ever so slightly "Very well, if that is what you wish" and certainly the other mares would get their tails in a twist at the sight.

Thanos stood tall and proud as Ruin trotted off. His daughter, a beta. He had always hoped his daughters would prove themselves in the herd, but he honestly never imagined that one would become a beta. "She will do me proudly." He said with confidence, Ruin would have to work hard but he was certain that she would serve her new rank well once she learned the ropes. His attention turned to Regret now. "Yes, that is what I wish." To be perfectly honest he wished she would show herself more to the herd, and perhaps with the changes going into place that would happen, he would want Regret at his side as the herd marched across the land spreading death and disease.
"There is another thing I wish from you now." He said in a low voice and nipped in a playful matter at her shoulder. They did not get to spend enough time together and he would make certain that they would make the most of their time until the meeting. Using his bony nose he began to usher Regret towards the trees, they would celebrate together, the thought made his eyes glow in blinding red brilliance.
