Looking towards the girl, Shun shook his head and let out a sigh.
"Don't apologize. If it bothered me that much I'd probably try to cover the scars or something," he mumbled. The scars themselves did not bother him at all. It was just his father and how things were with that man.
"Besides, I'd be a different person had I not gone through all of that," he added.
Whether or not that was a good thing, though, was up in the air.

Oh that was true! If Shun had been different they might not have met and besides, "I like who you are." She said quietly her tail tapping the floor behind her. He and Lizzy were her first real friends after all and he was the first person to see her and not make fun of her! Sure he seemed incapable of smiling, a little fierce looking if not....a little scary, but maybe she could learn from him! She was trying to build up what she lacked.

Shun paused upon hearing that, not completely certain if there was some sarcasm he had not picked up or anything like that. He couldn't read her face with the mask in the way, but if the tail was any sort of indicator, it seemed she hadn't just said that. That was a little bit of a first in itself. Then again, it was hard to say if others in the past would have said anything like that if he had actually given them the chance.
The reaper didn't care either way.. but he had to admit it was kind of nice to hear.
There was some silence, then he finally said something in return.
"You're probably one of the first," he said, "But I think I don't mind it."
Straightening up as he felt that he was done with his stretches, he glanced back at the masked one and added, "You're not bad yourself."
It was a bit of a roundabout response but it was out there. The girl could really work on her confidence... and learn about a thing here and there, but she was nice to be around.

Head tilt, head tilt. Mitsu seemed to be processing what Shun had said until her tail began to wag a little more. She had never gotten compliments until she had come here so even his simple phrase was taken in high regard. Or at least she took it for what it was meant for and that he more than just tolerated her presence.
Now that it seemed Shun was on the move, Mitsu got back to her feet to follow to see what he would do. If possible she would try to mimic him in his exercises.
"Y..you know," She said sheepishly as she followed behind him. "You were the first person...to never make fun of me." Though her tone wasn't sad, she was happy that there was finally someone she could talk to that didn't just see her as a bother or a waste of space. A failed attempt at a monster or a reject. "I..it means a lot to me."

As Shun began to do some warm ups, he slowed as Mitsu spoke up a little more, mentioning how he was the first to not just make fun of her. He realized now that her confidence issues may very well have something to do with this fact. This begged for the question as to why she would be made fun of in the first place. That could be fore a number of reasons he supposed.
He didn't say anything until he had finished the first warm up exercise.
"Exactly... why have you been made fun of?" he asked. The reaper supposed other kids may have made fun of how clumsy or naive she was, but that didn't seem too likely. Those could be a part of the reason though.

Mitsu's ears fell back a little at Shun's question, her mind doing a better job of coming up with the things she hadn't been made fun of. It was a little hard for her to talk about but he had asked. She could tell him right, it would be okay?
"I...I've been made fun of for different things." She started though hesitated to continue. "B..because I'm short and small, a bookwyrm, not very strong," She paused a bit and for a moment it seemed like she might have been done but she continued. "I'm clumsy, dense about some things, I scare easy, and for being a monster I...I just....mostly fail at it." Her voice had gone mostly quiet at the end realizing this was just all pouring out of her mouth uncontrollably. "L..like my face. I..I'm hardly a monster if I can't be scary and how can I be scary when I look like this?"
Nervous hands touched her mask though she left it in place. It was so strange to lay her insecurities out on the table like that. What would Shun think of her now? Would he see her as weak and pitiful like everyone else?

When Shun had asked that question, he didn't quite expect the flood of reasons that came to him. He had guessed a couple of the things, but not the whole extent. By the time she had finished, he had stopped what he was doing completely to look at her.
Also, now he understood the purpose of the mask. Being scary was a large part of Halloween and who they all were. It also further pushed his understanding of why she lacked confidence in herself. No doubt the teasing didn't help with any of that.
While he didn't answer right away, his expression actually softened a little as he took all this information in.
"You don't have to look scary in order to be scary," he said after the pause, "Just take a look at reapers. We look like humans supposedly. That's not very terrifying."
Letting out a breath, he shook his head to himself.
"As for how you can be scary despite how you look... you'll learn. But you really need to be able to believe in yourself first," he said firmly.

That softened expression Shun displayed for a moment took Mitsu back a moment. Up until then the only expression she had really ever seen was his intense look or....would you call it a scowl perhaps? Still that look made her feel a little less timid for a moment, his words giving her something to think about. Though...she always thought humans sounded pretty scary, and she had been rather timid around reapers until she met Shun.
"I...I guess." Though it wasn't hard to tell she lacked in being a self motivator. It was just hard to believe in yourself when no one else seemed to. Her brother had somewhat but he was gone now...and mostly Mr. Adolphus didn't seem to care. She was a pack animal with no pack. Her support had been cut leaving her with nothing to lean on.

"That's not something you can say 'I guess' to. You either do or you don't," Shun replied, "And if you can't first build up that confidence then you won't be scaring anyone anytime soon."
His expression had hardened back to its usual state as he said this. Turning away, he continued to finish up his warm ups so they could move on to the meat of things.
"I can help you however I can to do that, but a lot of it rests on your shoulders. You'll need to have the resolve to get better," he explained.

The wolf girl shrank back a little knowing that Shun was right. Confidence...it was always about confidence. But what built up ones confidence? She was struggling to learn this because while a book would tell her this or that it was entirely different to apply it.
But...."Y..you'll help me?" Right there, for a moment, Mitsu felt like she had something to lean on. The pit she had fallen into didn't seem so deep and dark all of a sudden. There was a desperate hope she didn't even realize she had...hoping that there would be someone there.

He didn't really know how to go about with that just yet, but he figured he'll work something out along the way. While a part of him was surprised to be willing to do this, he had his reasons. For one thing, a part of him didn't want to see Mitsu fail. And for another, should anything come up in the future, he didn't want her to be the one burdening and slowing a team down.
He hated it when that happened.
"Are you all warmed up now?"

Mitsu was struck dumb unsure what to say. He agreed to help her out much like what he had done for her already. Helping her out of the tree, spending time with her, getting her a new phone, taking her to Prom...and now helping her to over come one of her biggest obstacles. It was a large step, one that left her with an unfamiliar feeling and a faint unseen blush across her cheeks.
When he asked his follow up question it still took Mitsu a moment to snap out of her stupor. "U..uh yeah. I think so." She had stretched out her legs pretty well but her arms...she really wasn't sure what to do but if she took it slow it would be okay right?

Nodding to her, Shun looked around to see what sorts of things they could work with.
"Was there something you had in mind on in terms of what to improve when you came in here?" he asked, figuring that could give him a bit of a lead of what might be best. In the back of his mind he was trying to think of how he could boost confidence but that was a trickier thing to deal with.
If he dealt with people more often then maybe it wouldn't be as much of a mystery, but that wasn't quite the case. These types of things were often lost to him.

"I...I guess my arm strength. I'm pretty weak." She admitted having a look around with Shun as well. "I...I generally just....run around to work my legs." Because knowing how to exercise she failed at. At least she wasn't so much out of shape but just scrawny.

Well that made things pretty easy. Nodding to her, Shun looked towards the weight machines and made his way over.
"This way," he said before motioning to them, looking towards one of the machines in specific. He knew how to use this one in particular, so he went on and set it up, marking the current weights to twenty. That should be a good starter for the wolf girl.. .right?
"Go ahead and pull down on the bar to lift up the weights. Use both hands," he said.
