Peri listened attentively the entire time the male spoke, her head slowly tilting as though trying to see his words from a different perspective. "Well it's not all that unusual," she commented with Edward finished. "I mean, I've never met my grandparents or great grandparents. I've got an uncle I've never met, and a lot of cousins. I got to briefly talk to my great great grandpa and his mate, but..."
Peri chewed on her lower lip, and her eyes unfocused like she was seeing something other than their current surroundings. She stayed like that for a moment, then blinked and came back to reality with a quick shake of her head. A reflexive, apologetic smile went across her face. "Well, I get the impression he doesn't like me much."

Edward noticed the way she unfocused, observant as well as polite. Now the question was, should he bring it up? Wasn't it rude to point out when people let slip emotions they clearly didn't want to show? Though, he couldn't just leave her be. She had seemed upset, if anything, and that apologetic smile made Edward tilt his head. Her next sentence made him blink, unsure how to respond. So far she seemed perfectly likable.
"I... Miss, are you alright?" He didn't step forward, not wanting to frighten her off. "Please do not take this wrong, and I truly am sorry if this is stepping over boundaries, but so far you seem quite likable. I'm sorry if this seems to forward, I just would hate to see you upset."

Peri looked at Edward uncomprehendingly for a moment, then realization dawned on her face. "Ooooh!" She laughed lightly. "Oh, don't worry about that. It's real sweet of you to ask, but don't worry about it. It's not that Grandpa Nato doesn't like me, I just seem to bring up bad memories for him." She tilted her head. "It was way before my time or my mom's time or maybe even my grandma's time, but I think it's got something to do with my great-great-grandma."

He smiled in relief when she laughed, shoulders lowering finally. Good, she wasn't sad. He nodded at her, wondering how it was even fair that she was in something that was before her time. He was curious, though merely nodded in thought. Families had so much drama, didn't they? With this he cracked his neck and flexed his paws, slightly stiff. He didn't want to get her into a to personal subject just yet. Oh, was he bothering her?
"Am I bothering you? I never really realized you could be going somewhere, or doing something." He flicked his tail to the side, touching the bandage above his eye thoughtfully.

Peri shook her head. "No. I'd have probably made an excuse and wandered away if you were," she admitted. Which was totally true. Peri could be just as polite and solicitous as Edward as being, but if she had plans then she didn't just stand around cause someone else wanted to chat.
"But I'm keeping you from something, aren't I," she asked. "You said you were searching for your family."

Edward shook his head, sighing softly. "I've been looking for a long time, some time taking a break would not hurt." He felt like he wasn't getting any closer to finding his family. His cousins had seemed like the closest he'd ever get, though even having those two were good enough. He had someone to call family now, even of it was two young boys who had no idea what to do with their uncle. If he found their father, well, wouldn't that be grand?
"Either way, I was going to rest soon anyway. I need to get food soon since it's been awhile, and, my paws are growing numb from walking for days." He nodded, not mentioning that he also enjoyed Peri's company for the time being, and was still worried about bandits.

((XD Well two of my foxes are dating his great niece and great nephew...))
Peri looked slightly apologetic. "I've still been keeping you from a proper rest. Or finding food. I can go hunting, there's lots of stuff to hunt for forage around here!"
Without even waiting for an answer, Peri went trotting off into the woods at a brisk pace. She felt it was the least she could do for stopping Edward and calling him a creeper when he was apparently just a traveler looking for a place to rest.
((You can introduce bandits whenever you want. Just remember: her dad is ditzy sometimes, but is excellent at close-range agility. And her mother is a mafia princess XD Peri can indeed fight!))

(( Bwahahahahhah. ))
That was when he smelled the scent of foxes, several of them. Edward was distracted when Peri spoke and wandered off, however when he turned and didn't see her worry built in his stomach. Immediately, he padded after her, worried she'd think he was a stalker! But still, those scents did not seem friendly. He smelled the scent of metal, scent of the object humans possessed. Bandits, no doubt about it.
When he approached Peri he was just in time, seeing as a large fox had leapt out of a bush and moved towards her. It didn't take Edward more then three seconds to whip forward and snarl, teeth latching onto the males shoulder and jerking him backwards.
Oh yes, he was fairly capable of showing a darker side.

Peri whipped around at the sound of something rustling behind her. Her eyes widdened to see a male jumping at her, when he was suddenly yanked back. Time seemed to freeze, like it usually did in high-stress situations. She had just enough time to realize Edward was the one who yanked back the male, when another fox came out of nowhere and landed on Edward's back.
Without stopping to think Peri charged. Her family wasn't known for strength or size, but they had speed! She had particularly inherited her dad's talent, super fast bursts good for short distance.
She launched herself at the fox on Edward's back, knocking him clean off, the momentum turning them into a rolling ball of fur, teeth, and snarls.

Edward snarled as a fox landed on his back. He released his own prey, and the attacker backed up, snarling at Edward when his companion was yanked off by Peri and engaged in a fight. Edward let out a low snarl, launching at his own attacker and biting down into the leg, happy when he heard a crunching sound and his attacker let out a loud cry. He released him, letting him run away before turning to Peri and her attacker.
With this, he let out a low snarl. "Didn't your mother teach you how to treat women?" He wanted to help Peri, but could he remove her without hurting her? What if the male had a grip on her neck?

((lol If this were a humor fight I would have had Peri look up at Edward and shout back, "I am a woman, dummy!"))
Peri actually had a mouthful of the male's scruff and was holding on for all she was worth, working her own neck muscles to keep the male from turning his head to bite her. She scrambled to keep her paws and body out of the way, trying to wrap her tail around the male's legs so as to trip him. He was bigger, though, and possibly stronger, for he lurched towards a tree and tried to slam Peri off of him.
Peri felt her paw bend at a weird angle that hurt, but it didn't seem to have broken bones. Rather than yelp she increased her bite pressure to compensate for the pain. The metallic taste of blood began to fill her mouth.

(( He's talking to the male hurting Peri. ))
Edward watched the fight carefully, watching to see if there was an opening. When she latched onto the male and bit down he noticed that if he ripped her away, she'd only cause the male harm. But he was observant and noticed the paw that bent, eyes narrowing. This was going to be harder than he thought. Though the male was stronger, and had recently tried to slam Peri into a tree. She could become severely injured from that.
Then again, she was on the males scruff, and the male was having a hard time turning his head. So, perhaps he didn't need to remove Peri, what he needed to do was assist her. She wasn't weak and scrawny, she had proved this by attacking the male head on. Edward let out a snarl, launching towards the male and biting down on his leg, biting until he heard a snap, a tactic he realized seemed to work to at least get the fox to reconsider continuing the fight with a broken leg.

Peri felt the male buckle beneath her and go down with a cry a pain. She was about to let go when all of a sudden teeth fastened into her back. The male's partner, despite being injured, still seemed to have some fight in him. Peri yelped in pain and anger, releasing the male beneath her and trying to turn her head around to snap at the second male on her back.

He heard her yelp, releasing the male he had attacked to see her being yanked around by some other male. Peri.... if he removed her he could hurt her. Yet, she'd be hurt more by that male! That male would not give her the same respect Edward was trying to. He snarled, leaping towards the male and biting down on his neck to stop his continue attack on her back. Once he got that out of the way, he grabbed Peri by the scruff of her neck, putting her quickly and possibly harshly to the side, separating her from the male.
With this done, he stepped in-front of Peri, relieved to have her safe for now, and snarled at the male that attacked her, drawing himself up to his full size.
"Leave." He snarled, giving the males one last chance to get their tails out of there, now.

Both males twined around each other, hissing and snarling at Edward and Peri. For a moment it looked like the blind rage in their eyes would oversome everything else, then one whimpered a little as he stepped on his injured leg. The other male cast a concerned look towards his partner, snarled viciously at Edward and Peri again, and then the duo melted back into the forest.
Peri was trying to get her shaking limbs under control. There was still so much adrenaline running through her that she would have felt better in motion, even though it probably would have injured her further.
