Alvilda nosed around, searching for an apple that wasn't too bruised by the fall, before nosing it over towards Galilee's hooves. They would be eating well from his little tree top exploration- or she would, at the very least, supposing he continued on his merry way. That idea both bothered her and somewhat appealed. Unwilling still to completely trust, Alvilda could easily slip back into her solitude. On the other hoof, she was tired of it. She may have been ruthless, but that did not mean she was not social. And Galilee seemed to be of a similar mindset to her, so far. They had a similar background, at the very least.
"I wouldn't mind traveling for a fair way," Alvilda said, still looking at Galilee's wings. "If you don't mind traveling with someone who is earth bound. You could be useful, as a scout." Her tone made it clear that she was doing this as a favor for him, giving him something useful to do. Riiiight. But Alvilda had to keep up some pretense of pride and independence, or this reliance on Galilee to get her out of her current rut in life would drag her into depression once more.
Flying sounded nice though. To see the land laid out below you, neat and divided, to plan ahead in all your journeys and mischief, to see enemies and allies before they could see you.... Alvilda would always be grounded. That was simply the way life is. It did not bother her too much, though the twinge of envy ran through her body. Perhaps one day she could discover a map that lead to the treasure of wings.
"If I had a choice in the matter, I would travel to see the mountains and the snow. But it seems like a perilous journey, through dangerous territory. If I went, I would have to go alone, since I don't think anyone would have near enough courage to accompany me." Oh, she was just baiting him on now.

Galilee looked down at the apple at his hooves, then smiled. He leaned down to take a bite, but paused at the baiting. "Oh? You think you have the courage to travel alone with out a strapping, handsome stallion to scout things for you?"
He couldn't help but bait a little himself. He smiled, then took a bite of the apple. He watched her reaction, then looked at his wings again. He wondered why she was so interested in his wings.
"At least I know they'll hold in the cold," the stallion told her. He flexed the wings, then returned his attention to the apple. "I flew over the mountains to get here. Lots of snow caps up there. Extreme cold, too."
He looked at Alvilda, "What was it like being on the open sea? I've never been on the water before. Were you ever afraid?"

"Well, seeing as I don't see any strapping, handsome stallions about, I suppose I'll have to do it alone. Besides, I am a capable female." Alvilda snorted, though there was still a hint of a smile at the corner of her mouth. There may have been one handsome stallion about, but that attraction would be a new and largely foreign feeling to her. She decided to push it back down and ignore it. She didn't need to be pandered to. She was the most capable mare she knew. She had survived this long alone, hadn't she?
"I'm about the toughest mare you will ever meet." Her pride had been struck now, and Alvilda was getting increasingly short tempered. It was actually rather humorous, if you looked at it one way. She had been alone too long, and a totally innocent statement had set her off. Galilee was much bigger and stronger looking than Alvilda, and while she was likely a force in her own right, there was no doubt who would win in a fight. It would not be the be-mapped mare.
"Besides, I bet my winter coat would hold out better than your wings for warmth anyway. I would bet all my gold on it," Alvilda said with a snort. She didn't actually have any gold, but she was confident she would win the bet, so even if Galilee took her up on it, she had nothing to worry about. And if he won? There was no way he would win. She was safe.
Then the subject was changed, and much of Alvilda's angry passion was deflated, rekindling again to talk about the ocean. "Well, to tell the truth, they don't have much use for our kind in a ship. I was mostly kept below decks, but I had a stall the size of the captain's room, filled with fresh straw. I was allowed up on deck once a day, to watch the world go by. There are days when you wouldn't see sand- simply the ocean. The horizon was just blue meeting blue. There were birds, of course. I met a whale a fair few times, though we never spoke the same language. The sea would rise and fall beneath you. Your world was never entirely stable, but you developed sea legs. And if you didn't, you weren't a proper sailor anyway." Again Alvilda snorted. There had been other soquili, sometimes. They never lasted long aboard the ship.
"There were storms sometimes, and the ship would list to one side until I was sure it would tip over. But I was never afraid. There's no room for fear." Her chest puffed out in pride, then deflated as she realized that so much of her life lately had been living in fear of the unknown, and in fear that if she left her beach, she would miss her chance to get out once again on the water. "But I like the land beneath my hooves too. I think I'm ready to head out again. Perhaps one day I'll find another beach, but I can't picture myself ever staying in one place. That's the advantage of the ocean."

"No strapping, handsome stallion?" Galilee feigned bristling, the feathers of his wings spreading. "Are you blind, maiden? Maybe if I move in your line of sight more..."
He chuckled and stepped to stand in front of her, then tried to strike a daring pose. He paused and looked her, then shrugged. "I'm not contesting that you're tough, Alvilda. Just thought you might like company is all. You know...I can fly high and get food, or tell you when there's others near before they get too close."
He considered it, then looked at his wings. "But, the sun warms my wings, and they would keep me warm in the cold. And, I could use them to make water from snow...."
The stallion seemed to be trying to prove to her that he'd be worthy. He stopped when he heard her change the subject. "That sounds like being in the air. The wind current rocks the ship gently. I spent time on the deck, as there's not much room below for a horse. That, and I have wings and could leave easy to deliver messages. I've never met a whale in the sky...but I have met a few birds. Couldn't understand them either."

Galilee was right. It might be advantageous to have someone to act as a scout, and he was much larger than her. His metal was intimidating, and he could provide warmth... Yes, this was all pulling together in a way fire nicer than Alvilda could have ever anticipated. Her plans were unfolding magnificently. Traveling, with a stallion? She laughed internally. A mere month ago, had someone suggested it, she would have chased them off, bearing her teeth and kicking at their flanks with her hooves.
But why were they still talking? It seemed like they had been talking for quite some time now, and though the two scarcely knew each other, Alvilda was itching to set off for the promised adventure. Her withers were literally shaking.
"What are we doing still talking? I'll race you over to the next valley. No flying." Alvilda had a sly cast to her face as she suddenly sprang forward and took off, giving herself a head start.

"Maiden, I don't honestly know," Galilee smirked, tiliting his head. He extended a wing as if to usher her on. "Let us be on our way to a grand adventure. To the mountains, to the snow...the treasure of excitement."
The stallion couldn't help but ham it up a little. He was going on a trip with a beautiful companion. He decided to spice it up a little, while he was at it. "Maybe we could even find some travelers to pillage along the way..."
He chuckled and took off toward the mountain, calling back, "I don't need wings to beat you, Alvilda...see you there!"
