Amira knew the other soq was perfectly correct. Her parents really hadn't talked about the kalona, or any other dangers of the area. She learned a lot of what she knew from her siblings, and most of that was mixed between goofing off and being a responsible princess, from her brother and sister respectively. "Not really." she replied.
Amira just listened as the mare told her about these creatures. She knew that the descriptions would only add to her nightmares. She tried to listen intently with really focusing on the details."They seem very mean, so I guess you got lucky in that instance." Amira didn't know what else to say in the conversation.

"Well, not all of them are particularly mean. Some just use others to get what they want, and some actually detest what they are and try to change. As with all individuals, it depends on their thoughts and personalities, as well as how they've been raised." Phaedra nodded. Although she was child-like in actions, she was actually rather knowledgeable. "But they aren't even the worst. The worst would probably have to be skinwalkers." She shuddered at the thought of them. Her mother had come into contact with one long ago, and even though nothing bad happened, she dreaded the cursed things.

Amira listened intently to the mare. Her knowledge and wisdom intrigued Amira more. She was deeply scared of running into one of the kalona, but felt assured that it wouldn't happen anytime soon, and when it did, she hoped that it was one of these friendly ones. "I guess your right," Amira agreed, "Your rasing has a lot to do with how you end up." Then she heard the mare talk about something worse, the skinwalkers. She shuddered at the thought, but decided to move on with just a simple "Yeah, I heard they are bad news."

Phaedra nodded. "So how'd you grow up? I grew up with my momma and Amitola... Never really knew my father much." The thought of her father often times made the mare angry. She didn't like what he'd done to the family, but at least he was around for the beginning. Phae felt worse for her younger siblings who hadn't met him at all. He wasn't terribly bright or very fatherly, nor was he around. In fact, the mare didn't quite know what her mother had seen in him. But if it weren't for him, she wouldn't be around, so it was all right.

Amira didn't really like talking about how she grew up. She always felt like she was the outcast in the family, especially compared to her sister. "I grew up with my brother and sister, and my mom and dad." she didnt really want to let it slip about the royalty in her genes, so she talked very cautious, hoping that Phaedra wouldn't pay much attention to that. "My sister and I are complete opposites really, but my brother and I get along well." she said. "My family has made some tough decisions, especially my dad, but I have always respected his decisions."
Amira knew that this would probably lead to more questions, and although she didn't want the conversation to go that far, she felt a bit more comfortable talking about it, if it was asked.

Phae nodded. "That's cool. I kinda wish I knew the rest of my family." She wasn't particularly interested in the minor details, and the other mare hadn't said anything very interesting about her family other than that her and her sister were opposites. "How many siblings do you have? Just a brother and sister? I've got two sisters, and three brothers. But two of my brothers disappeared kinda like my father. Is all of your family still together?"

"We have a big family," Amira answered, "Almost to many to count. I have a brother and a sister that are my age, as well as an older brother and sister. I just recently became an aunt as well." She thought about the new foals a bit, and then continued on. "Its sad that you've had so many in your family leave. We all still keep in touch, even though I have separated a bit from them. I tend to stay a bit more on my own."

Phaedra nodded. "I think it'd be cool to have a big family. I mean, I kind of do, but that's just because of my mate, and all of those in my family who have mates." She sighed as she thought about it. "I just wish my mum could find someone who'd stick around. That'd make her happy." She didn't understand why someone would want to be on their own when they could be around family. "Why do you stay on your own? You do at least see them, right?"

Amira nodded as Phaedra talked. She could understand how she felt, although she'd not lived it. "My mother and I both got lucky. We ran into the perfect mates," she said. She began to think about Amenophis again, and what he might be doing right now. Amira then flashed back to the conversation. "I hope that she does find someone she is happy with as well. And someone that wants to be by her side."
As the converstaion continued, Amira was more ans more relaxed about finding another mare to chat with. She felt the friendship become more solid, at least on her end, and she felt more connected.
"I do see them often, but I chose to be away from them early on," she started. "I guess I am just not like them. I feel like I am the one that is different."

Phaedra sighed dreamily. "Y'know, maybe she will. I think that'd be cool. Maybe I'd get more siblings!" She got excited for a moment and shifted her weight from side to side. After a while she remembered what they were talking about and returned to the conversation. She hadn't had a decent talk with someone for quite a while.
"Well, at least you see them, right? And you have a family. And don't worry; it's not a bad thing to be different. I used to try to be different, but then I realized I was all on my own without even trying. Y'know, I used to act all shy and stuff, but I'd be bursting because I wanted to talk to people. After a while I just gave up." The mare nodded and laughed a little at herself. She was glad to be out of her shell.

"Yes, I see them every now and again." Amira said. "Although I've yet to see my new neices and/or nephews."
After hearing the mare speak, she felt a huge weight fall from her shoulders. How could it be that she had met someone who was once just as shy as she. She felt like she could really begin to open up more to her new friend. "I con't see you as being shy, "Amira started, "You seem like you'd be the type to be outgoing all your life." Amira smirked a bit as she continued, "I wish that I could get the courage to be open, but I still feel like I'm being judged."
Amira began to think more. A key word in her last sentence was probably it. Feel. That must be it.
"Maybe others don't have such a preconceived thought about me, and I've just always thought they did" Amira knew that this would probably open up more questions, but finally, for once in her life, Amira felt like she could answer anything that was thrown at her, and not be ashamed.

Phaedra nodded. "Yeah, me too. My brother Blake had some babies with someone we thought he'd be with forever, but they split not too long ago. Momma wasn't very happy to hear that... But they say they're still friends, so I guess it's okay."
The mare laughed a little. "Well I'm not that great. I try awful hard sometimes, but it doesn't usually make much of a difference. You just are what you are, right? And who cares if somebody judges you? This place is so big that unless you actively try to find someone to talk to again, you won't see 'em again. That's why you should just say what you want, and if someone doesn't like it, they can find someone else to talk to. Just try not to be mean, you know? I told my sister that once, and she was mean for a looong time. Turns out I'm just a friendly little thing."
Phae was becoming curious again. "Well why would they? I mean, you look just like anyone else, and you're awful nice. I wouldn't think of you any different than I'd think of someone I've known all my life."

Amira really appreciated this time to talk with her new friend. There was so much that she was right about, and Amira needed to hear every word she had to say. She listened intently as the mare spoke more, knowing that she was absolutely right with all of her words.
Finally Amira opened up. "I always feel like people think I am one of those stuck up mares. I feel like its obvious to everyone, the fact that I come from royal family." Amira felt good just getting those lines out. "I mean, I only know that my grandmother was a queen. Not much has been spoken of the family royalty, at least not that I recall. And my father has always been there If I have questions or wanted to talk, but I never know how to approach him on the subject."
Amira took a deep breath, feeling much better.

Phaedra raised a brow at the mare. She'd never heard of anything such as royalty. Where she grew up, everyone was equal. "Well, you're not stuck up, as far as I can see. And you look just like anyone else does. There's loads of variety here, and as long as you don't say nothin' about it, I don't think anyone would really know. And if you want to know more, why don't you just ask him? It can't be that hard, right? He seems like he's really nice." She stretched her wings a bit as she spoke. The cold damp air was starting to get to them.

"Thanks. I guess your right." Amira said. "I just always felt like other gave me the cold shoulder, and I hadn't given them a reason." She thought a bit more as she spoke. Maybe it was just her shy nature that was causing them to turn away. In first meetings, Amira didnt always give the others a chance to get to know her. She always wanted to turn her back and walk away, and that probably what the others were sensing.
"I could ask my father, but I dont know what his feelings are. I would hate to make him mad by asking." she said. But what really could he get mad at for asking a simple question. He could very well just tell her that he didn't want to discuss it, and she would be fine with that answer.
