It was good that Kam's blood was up, because Vanessa's was too. It was good that he didn't want to lose to her, because Vanessa wanted to win. Competition was more exciting when it was real, and she wasn't interested in fighting like this with someone who was going to go easy on her for any reason.
A giant grin exploded onto Vanessa's face when her fist made contact with Kam's jaw. It was a victorious thing, and she opened her mouth to goad him again;
"Is that all you g--- oomph."
Vanessa was silenced, effectively, when Kam suddenly launched himself at her and, unprepared for this particular attack, crumpled under his superior weight. Her back hit the tumbling matt with a soft thud and Vanessa, blood rising to her cheeks, was desperately trying not to think about what it might be like to just stay where she was.
But that wasn't how boxing worked.
Or wrestling, for that matter, and she refused to let Kam win that easily.
Vanessa struggled against his hold, heart thundering so loudly she feared he would hear it, and strained her poor brain trying to figure out how to turn the tables on him. She came up empty handed. There was nothing. Nothing that would possibly work.
Except.
A part of Vanessa was a little bit mortified over the decision she was about to make. However there was another, much larger part of her that didn't care. Vanessa simply refused to surrender, and followed through with the first potentially useful thing she could think of.
She resisted Kam's attempts to pin her arms, cradled his head awkwardly between her gloves, and then closed her teeth around his ear. Vanessa was too proud to actually hurt him in this way, but tugged with enough force to make Kam uncomfortable.

Uncomfortable was one way to put it.
She seemed to be full of surprises and though not all of them were bad, this one was a little tormenting.
The bite and tug on his ear didn't hurt and for a moment he almost laughed at the fact that she was playing anything but fair. Then suddenly, his body seemed to remember that Vanessa was a girl faster than his mind did. He reacted faster than he would have liked, pushing her arms down from his head and looming over her with a suspiciously unsportsman-like face.
Then his brain caught up and he groaned inwardly at himself - he didn't want to be in this position with one of his best friends. He didn't need to scare her off with his s**t.
"That's cheating," he grumbled out in a voice that was much less confident than he would have liked, then he just rolled himself off of her and stood up. "We're not going to keep playing if you're going to cheat." He tried to smirk at her, jabbing his glove at her to emphasize his words like he was pointing a finger. He stood awkwardly for a second and, finally deciding that he had enough fun in the gym for a day, he motioned towards the guy's locker room.
"Go shower up, I'll take you to get burgers or something when I'm done." Then he was off, loosening his gloves on his way through the gym.
Awkward situation dodged.

Vanessa had no way of knowing what sort of results her little trick would reap, and could do little more than blink up at Kam when he pushed her arms away. The look on his face made her cheeks burn, and the butterflies in her belly weren't sure whether they should flutter or die.
And then he was calling her a cheater, and crawling away like she had some sort of disease.
The butterflies died.
This was almost exactly what had happened the last time she'd dared bite someone. And then, she'd meant for it to hurt. But she'd held back with Kam, because she liked him too much to cause him any real pain.
She sat up slowly, breathing gradually returning to normal, and watched his broad back until it disappeared through the door of the guy's locker room on the other side of the gym.
