Ainsley nodded. Although she liked the idea of bigger spiders more because they were bigger and fuzzier and made her think of them more like animals, she understood the caution Sam was having when he thought it was a poisonous spider. She wondered if he knew that most bigger spiders were harmless to humans? Or that all spiders carry venom with their bite? Most people didn't know that though because only some venoms effect humans and entitle the spider to a poisonous stamp. She certainly didn't want to see her friend be bitten by a spider that could hurt him though but she felt like she should update him!

"Most spiders are harmless, although they all carry some venom in their bite, and I think most bigger spiders are harmless! I read it in a book!" The child really did like to read books on animals when she wasn't reading books about fairytales. It was always fascinating to learn new things!

Not scared of much? Ainsley couldn't just come out and tell her friend Sam about how she was nearly eaten by youma on a dozen accounts, more than half of them without even being powered up. Why would she fear a little, innocent spider when she had to face such creatures daily? It wasn't even that she thought youma were bad, but left unattended and they were certainly much worse than spiders. Like spiders, they too were probably misunderstood and the child wished she could just help everyone without anyone getting hurt.

The thoughts had brought a small frown to her face but when her dear friend Sam had brought up the word mice, it was like she glowed. She was thinking about Cinderella, and how the mice saved the day and took care of the young woman. They could do such wonderful things and they were just so cute. She remembered seeing a mouse once, under the table when she lived with her mother in California. She vividly remembered her mother freaking out and nearly climbing onto the table in a very unladylike manner as she tried to get away from it. The child didn't understand how her mother could dislike a little animal with such cute, beady eyes.

"Aw," she giggled. "Mice are so cute, don't you think Sam?

The amount of knowledge that Ainsley had was always surprising. Though Sam was a keen learner himself, he preferred to learn about geology, geography, physics and other types of earthy science. Biology was not his strong suit. Sam shook his head, “I didn’t know that. Gotta keep you around then to tell me this stuff.”

Sam crawled up onto the large black leather couch in the den. He sat by the armrest, with his back to it and his folded up on top of the seat. Patting the cushion in front of him, he invited Ainsley to sit down. “ Mice? Not really cute. Mom says they spread disease, but the ones in pet store look okay. I like the ones with the little stubby tails.” Sam was referring mixing up his rodents. He was thinking of hamsters, which reminded me of a certain cat he knew.

“You really like animals, huh?” For a second, Sam wondered if Ainsley would like him more if he was an animal. Though he occasionally acted like an animal, getting into scrapes and fights at school, he was far from the fuzzy creatures she liked.

Ainsley may have been good with literature and biology but her knowledge on geography and geology were not very good at all. More often than not when the child wandered off with curiosity she ended up lost, even in the simplest area like the dense side of the park. It was embarrassing to admit but reading maps and reading words in a book were far from different, even from thought she was good at remembering pictures from books and good with her imagination she just wasn't good at remembering places like Sam was. She certainly didn't mind being wanted by Sam, so the child smiled and nodded as she took a seat next to him on the couch, carefully folding the edge of her skirt under her as she did.

Ainsley pouted, shaking her head at Sam. People spread disease like mice, probably even more so than mice! How come mice got blamed for spreading disease. It wasn't fair at all! Of course, when Sam mentioned little stubby tails Ainsley felt lost for a moment. She didn't remember mice having short tails, in fact, they were specifically known for having long tails, weren't they? She tried to think of another kind of rodent that had short, stubby tail and she narrowed her guess to hamster and guinea pig. Perhaps he meant one of those?

"Guinea Pig? Hamster?" She questioned, soon blushing lightly as he questioned her about her enjoyment in animals. She smiled lightly at his appreciation in her enjoyments, nodding her head. "I love animals, especially bunnies with their floppy ears!"

“Hamster! That’s the one.” At least Sam was pretty sure that was the right one. They were the kinda pudgy mice-like rodents weren’t they? “Yeah, I figured rabbits were the ones you really liked. But why? Rabbits are so silly.”

Sam pointed to Octavian Oswald, and then he picked up the stuffed animal. Normally, Sam didn’t play with stuffed animals. He preferred toy cars and puzzles to soft plushies. But today he was feeling indulgent. He held the toy carefully his hand, keeping the bunny upright. Pretending to be the bunny, Sam made Octavian walk and bow to Ainsley. “Well hello, Princess.”

Playing nicely wasn’t a very natural instinct for the boy; Sam made an alligator shape with his other hand. “da da, da dumm, da da da da daaa.” He hummed the Jaws theme and set his ‘alligator’ to attack. The ‘alligator’ caught Octavian in a tight grip. “Oh no! But never fear!” Sam made the rabbit fight back and defeat the ‘alligator’. His hand slumped over ‘dead’, Octavian won the battle. Finished with his little scene, he gave the doll back to Ainsley, and chuckled to himself.

"Rabbits aren't silly!" She objected certainly louder than she intended as Sam picked up Octavian Oswald. She watched him, wondering what he was about to do with her dear prince. Needless to say when Sam did that, the child was very surprised and very flustered. It that wasn't the cutest thing ever, her two boys playing nicely together. She'd never expected Sam to do such a thing, and she made a light giggle as she watched him. She was more than pleased to see her prince become triumphant over the monster that tried to defeat him. A prince would never lose in the company of a princess!

"Thank you!" She said as she accepted Octavian Oswald back into her arms, looking at Sam intently. She was seeing a new side of him and she liked it. It certainly wasn't a side she'd ever seen, perhaps it was just for her? If so, the child would happily keep that side of him to herself, and of course, Octavian Oswald. It could be a secret the three of them shared, them and well, maybe Sam's mother who could have come back at any moment.

“See. Rabbits can be silly.” The boy smiled wide. Although in this case, maybe it Sam who was the silly one. Though he was born in the 'Year of the Rabbit', so perhaps both he and the stuffed animal were silly rabbits.

Sam mother’s was spying on the two kids for the last several minutes. From around the corner Delia Colt had a video camera out, trying to capture every adorable moment. Feeling like they were being watched, Sam checked over his shoulder to catch his mother in the act. “Mom!” Sam jumped up and tried to cover his face with his hands. “Quit it.”

“I’m sorry, Honey. It was just too sweet!” Delia beamed.

Sam frowned and let out a small sigh. Mothers: what silly creatures. The boy made to grab Ainsley’s hand, and pull her along to somewhere without prying eyes. Before he could though, his mother continued to talk. “Ainsley dear, do you like spaghetti? I was just about to start making a dinner, and since you’re here, you might as well stay for dinner! Would you like to?”

What was silly about a prince defeating the monster and saving the princess? Ainsley had to think about and even then she still could not find the answer to the question. Perhaps they could be silly though, not that they are silly. It was a better phrase of the word for sure. The moment had passed though as the spying mother had been noticed by her son who immediately got defensive about it all while Ainsley couldn't help but giggle. It was nice to see Sam's mother, although it made her miss her own, it wasn't an entirely bad feeling.

"I like pasta," she said with a nod. Could she stay for dinner? She would like to stay with Sam longer but would she be allowed to? She'd never been invited to stay at someone's house for dinner before. What if Bell was expecting her home? It was still early, Bell probably hadn't started it yet. She looked to Sam hesitantly and then back to Mrs. Colt as she replied, "It would be my honour to if Sam wanted me to stay longer, and if my sister said it was okay with it."

There was a slight hesitation on Sam’s part. Having Ainsley over for dinner meant he’d have to watch his manners. Part of him wanted to impress his friend. Not that he was particularly sloppy, but Sam was a boy after all and boys would be boys. It wasn’t unusual for Sam to play with food, and slurp spaghetti like the dogs in Lady and the Tramp. He couldn’t help it, spaghetti was just so easy to play with. After a few seconds, Sam nodded. “That’d be okay. If you want to.”

“Great! We can call Bell and see if that’s all right.” Delia gestured for Ainsley to follow her to the kitchen, where the phone was kept. She continued to jabber on about cooking. Cooking was her entire world, and Delia Colt would go on and on about food if anyone let her. “You can be my little helper. We can make cheese bread together. There's ice cream for dessert as well.”

Sam trailed behind, wondering if having a dinner was really a good idea.

Sam had said it was okay and Ainsley's face lit up happily as she followed his mother into the kitchen, listening to her talk about cooking as she dialed the phone to her place. Ainsley's cooking experience started and ended with the microwave, so being able to help Mrs. Colt was really something interesting to the child. "I would love to help," she said with a bit of excitement as she waited for the phone on the other end of the line to pick up. It didn't take long for Ainsley to ask Bell if she could stay and before she knew it she had given the phone back with a smile.

"I can stay!" she said, looking towards Sam.

Would he help too? She looked between the two as she wondered the answer to that very question. Perhaps they could do something together to help prepare the food, and then all eat it together. The food probably would taste really good if they all did it together, right? Something about putting their feelings into it.

"How can I help?"

Delia grabbed a bowl and a garlic press from the kitchen cupboard. Next she grabbed a some butter and garlic from the fridge and set it down on the counter in front of Ainsley. “You can peel the garlic. Then all your have to do is squish it real hard in the press and dump into the bowl! “ Delia mimicked using the press. “When the butter softens up to room temperature you can mix it up with the garlic. Sam, boil some water please.”

Delia gave much more attention and direction to Ainsley than her son. Sam knew what to do in the kitchen, having grown up in the Colt household. Ainsley got special attention. Delia felt maternal towards her, feeling the need to be a sort of pseudo-mother to her. She showed Ainsley how to break spaghetti and place it into the pot once it boiled, how to form meatballs, and slice French bread. The three of them worked together, Delia humming happily in-between giving instructions. Sam silently went along with the instructions, but smiling. Quite soon, they had a whole meal ready to go.
