"You were attacked??" Chris sputtered, his eyes narrowing in concern, though doing his best to keep his voice down. Jeez. Everyone was getting attacked. This wasn't good. He'd already decided that he needed to stay there and protect his friends, but when said friends were already being attacked without him knowing... great. Just great.

"Yeah, I promise to be careful," he told Daniel, not wanting him to worry. It wasn't him his friend needed to worry about, though. He needed to keep himself out of danger.

"Listen," he said, keeping his voice low. "I've seen them too. I..." he paused, suddenly not knowing what he should tell him or what was going to put him in danger. "I've met that guy before. The one with the shield," he admitted, deciding not to lie, at least. He was just... leaving out the part that he was also fighting with Camelot while he was powered up, too.

"We will have to get together, though," he agreed, figuring it would be better to tell Daniel... other things... if they were actually out of a public setting. That way neither of them had to gauge their reactions to an acceptable level.

"Have you thought about transferring?" he asked, completely serious. "If you can get out of here, I think you should. There are plenty of other good universities who accept transfer students, especially foreign ones." Unless Daniel had good reasons for staying, Chris might end up trying to pressure him to leave, if only to keep him out of harm's way.

"Y- You met him ?!" Daniel had no problem keeping his voice down, even as his dull gold eyes went wide. The purple-haired teen pretty much had a constant 'indoor voice'. "I mean, I was really glad he came... But I really didn't know what to make of all this !"

Kind of too busy being scared shitless, really.

As Chris mentioned moving, he couldn't help but frown slightly. "I can't do that, Chris. I need to finish here, I can't..." It had been hard enough to get used to Destiny City, he didn't want to be the new, weird kid in some other town ! And he wouldn't have the opportunities he had here back in Germany.

There was, however, another reason. A very different reason. A reason with long black hair and eyes as red as blood... Ume very rarely left his mind, through they had only met one other time since their first meeting. He knew what the feelings he had for her was, but he knew it was all hopeless - Ume would soon realize he was nothing but a bookworm and probably forget all about him. There were plenty of other guys in town, all more attractive, more cool, more... everything that Daniel wasn't.

"Es gibt ein Mädchen..." His eyes went wide again. "Ah ! No, nothing, sorry !" He really hoped Chris hadn't decoded that...

Chris nodded, cautious about what he was saying, more worried about himself being too loud than Daniel. "There are these strangely dressed super heros or whatever, wandering around the city, apparently," he shared, since it was obvious that Daniel had run into them before. No use trying to keep that a secret.

It was just a matter of when or even if he should tell him that... he was one of those strangely dressed super heros... Not that he thought he was all that super. He didn't have any magic and his "weapon" could have been bought at a yard sale.

Golden eyes narrowed suspiciously when Daniel decided to switch back to German on him, not convinced that it was nothing with the way his eyes had reacted. "Uh huh... When do I get to meet her?" he bluffed, having only learned the minimal amount of German over the years. He thought he might have said the word for girl, but he wasn't a hundred percent sure, so he figured he could guess and Daniel would either slip up by correcting him, or he would guess right.

One would think he'd at least know the basics, being close friends with someone from Germany, but... he was better at math and science and technical stuff than languages.

But really... other than school and staying in a familiar city, what else could be convincing him to stay?

Well, from the way Daniel's expression turned priceless and with how his face turned a bright red, Chris had hid the nail straight on the head.

"It's not that ! It's... not like that !!!" He stammered, hiding his face with his hands like he always did when embarrassed. "It isn't... She doesn't see me like that. Probably won't ever."

Oh my. The German had a crush.

Yeah, he figured as much.

Chris had to fight back a laugh as he moved his elbow onto the table, lightly resting his chin on his hand with an expression that clearly said he didn't believe a word out of Daniel's mouth.

"Well, why not?" he asked, not thinking it was that big of a deal for Daniel to like someone. "How do you know her? Does she at least know your name?" He was trying to think of ways to help his friend out if he was really that worried about not being noticed by this girl he liked. "Do I get to meet her?" he asked with a teasing grin, but he wasn't going to make him do anything he didn't want. Maybe it was just... one of those things Daniel wanted to take slow.

Just as long as he was actually making some kind of effort.

Aaaaaaaaahhh---

"I was in the park." He shook his head. "T-The other day. Playing violin. And there she was... We talked a bit. She's..."

How could he seriously explain feeling so strongly for someone he barely knew ? "She's beautiful, and nice, and smart and... well. You know." Everything he wasn't. Ume was probably drowning in interested boys going after her - what kind of chance did he have ? Seriously ?

Chris continued leaning his chin on his hand, nodding lightly to what Daniel was telling him. "Does she at least know your name?" he tried again, not at all minding that Daniel was distracted with thinking about this beautiful girl he'd met.

"Did you ask for her number?" he wondered, blinking at his friend from across the table, "Or do you know where she usually hangs out? Or are you expecting to just... randomly run into her again...?" He grimaced lightly at the last part, not really thinking it all that possible to meet the same person twice in a city the size of Destiny City. Well, that wasn't entirely true. He'd done it before — run into a person he'd only met once, elsewhere. But what were the odds of that happening all the time.

"Does she know you're interested? You need to stop thinking so lowly of yourself, Daniel," he frowned, knowing he was probably thinking he didn't stand a chance. "You go to DCU, on a scholarship, you're from Germany, you play the violin quite well, you're a great writer, definitely better than I could ever hope to be," he pointed out, really hoping this wasn't one of those things where Daniel just needed to... think about what he was going to do about the girl and end up watching her walk away before coming to a conclusion.

Daniel was indeed a little scatter-brained - Chris' patience was a welcome thing. "Yes, she does, and I have her number..." Well ! Probably better than expected. Especially for Daniel, who would have usually sooner ran away from a pretty girl then tried to talk to her.

This was a step !

"And uh, no, we just... talked. She really likes books and music and she's just... amazing."

Head over heels - Definition of Daniel at the moment.

Chris was used to Daniel's scatter-brained tendencies, so it wasn't difficult to let him talk himself out and then re-ask him the missed question.

"Well, that's good," he told him, sitting up a little more now that he wasn't going to have to tell his friend that it would probably be a lost cause at this point. If she didn't even know his name, what were the possibilities of him running into her again? Having her number was even better. "Have you called her? Ask her out sometime," he threw out, hoping that he could at least give Daniel enough to think about without pushing too hard.

"What about asking her to one of those music festivals they have down town? Or... what kinds of books does she like? I'm... kind of friends with the head librarian in the city library," he confessed, holding himself back from telling his friend everything that was on the tip of his tongue. But first, Tony's secret wasn't his to tell, and second... they were trying to figure out what to do about Daniel's love-life, or lack thereof, at the moment. Telling the poor love-struck fool that he was actually a superhero of sorts would be a jerk move when Daniel was the one with the spotlight at the moment.

Maybe another day...

"A-And if she says no ?" Of course, this was the answer Daniel was expected. "I mean... She's just gonna notice im lame eventually, or something..."

Yes, for Daniel the situation was a little hopeless. This wasn't a book - the guy didn't miraculously get the girl in real life.

Daniel seemed to have miraculously remembered his salad existed, and was now picking at it again. "She likes... crime scene books ?" He still hadn't looked up the word. He knew he should have ! "Should I get her one ? Or flowers ? Girls like flowers, right ?"

"Then you try again," Chris said with a small shrug. He didn't think it was anything for Daniel to freak out about.

"You're not lame," he said, confident in this fact more so than Daniel was. "And you'd have to be careful getting her books. What if she already bought it? And flowers might make you seem a little desperate, and what if she's allergic to them?" he asked, thinking he was being rather realistic in his thought process.

"If it was me... I would ask her out to lunch some time. Or even just coffee. Just something so we could talk and not worry about things," he explained, knowing it was a lot easier said than done. "And then when I knew her a bit better, like what she's interested in, then I would ask her out to dinner or even to the park or a museum or an arcade or... whatever I would think she would enjoy and not feel like she was being pressured into something..."

He paused, wanting to make sure he wasn't freaking Daniel out even more. "You can do it however you like. You like her for certain reasons, right? Start with that. If you think she'd like flowers, then get her flowers... Er... I'm going in circles...

"Why are you taking my advice? I haven't been dating for a couple years now!" And he knew how badly the last one ended... Being cheated on was definitely no fun, and Chris highly doubted the value of his advice when it came to dating, but if it could get Daniel to just start thinking about things... that would be good, right?
PostPosted: Sat Jun 18, 2011 11:48 am

Oh... Right. Well. Chris had a point, really. How could he be sure Ume didn't have any books he could buy her ?

Ack, this was so complicated... As realistic as poor Chris was being, Daniel just felt more and more crushed with every elaboration... Until he got to the lunch and coffee part. "That... might work, actually..."

When, through... Hm... "Do you know when high school finishes their exams ?" Yes, it was only a year ago. Yes, Daniel had already forgotten about how things went. And, anyway, Ume certainly wasn't going in Azure.

"At least you have been dating." Daniel ? Dating ? Hadn't ever happened. He probably wouldn't have managed to even find a girl to pose as his date for his prom... Through that would have involved not being in a magical coma for it.

Chris frowned, trying to think about when exactly school ended for high school, before shaking his head. "No idea. Peter's still at Knightside..." he said, wondering if he could text a friend who was still in high school and ask them. "What school does she go to?" Hopefully he should know that much, right?

"If you can call it that," he said with a frown. He'd had a year of what was supposed to be good memories wasted because of stupid decisions and poor judgement. "You're better off that you've waited until college to date, trust me. High school romances or whatever is just a bunch of silly nonsense. Everyone is still too young to understand what they want, or what's best for them," he said, hoping to reassure Daniel a little.

There was nothing wrong with having not dated until now... It wasn't as if he needed to run out and get married or anything like that. Taking things slow was good, especially for someone like Daniel, who already needed a good deal of time to think things through.

What school did Ume go to ? It took a moment for him to recall, brows furrowed in concentration. "...Meadowview, I think. She mentioned living with her parents." St-Mags girls certainly didn't, and Crystal girl... No, Ume just hadn't felt like a crystal girl. At all.

Daniel just nodded, his expression turning pensive now. "I wouldn't want to bother her in the middle of studying, or something." Especially if she was a senior. It had been his most difficult year at Azure. "She is... Well..."

Words failed, so he pulled out his cellphone, brought up the photo he'd taken to go with the profile in his phone, and turned to show Chris. Black hairs, long and brought up into a kind of a bun with hair-sticks adorning it. Crimson eyes, the very color of blood, but a smiling face. She wore black lace, and looked positively beautiful in it, as far as Daniel was concerned.

Ah, Meadowview was always safe, at least when it came to decent people. Not that he didn't have various friends from all different areas, but Meadowview was typically neutral territory. It made him relax a bit. Stereotyping? A bit... But after his experiences with Crystal girls, well... He spoke from experience when he sid they weren't always the nicest people.

Chris nodded in understanding, knowing exactly how senior year had been for all of them.

But he leaned closer to the phone, curious about this girl that Daniel was going gaga over, nodding in approval as he saw her picture. "Wow, nice catch," he half-teased, not wanting to insult Daniel, but also wanting to compliment his taste in girls. "She looks nice, at least," he said, leaning back in his seat. It was the eyes, he thought. They were softer... not the kind that looked down on others. Of course, he couldn't really determine someone's personality from a photo, but he was hopeful that this girl would be good for Daniel.

"Ask her out... You really should. Or even better, ask her when a good time for her would be. Tell her you don't want to bother her studying, but you want to see her again. Something simple," he offered, hoping it would be enough to go off of.
