I guessed it... but I was in denial that it would happen. Halfway through the book I was like "Crap! I was right!"

Bluefuzzy I guessed it... but I was in denial that it would happen. Halfway through the book I was like "Crap! I was right!" And that was the final point I needed to confirm it. Those three words (you were right) did it for me. Well, four words, adding in 'pyrosflame'. I still didnt want to believe it though..

I didn't think that the twins and Murtagh were really dead. It just seemed too abrupt. The still had too much to offer to the storyline. I'd also guessed that Murtagh was Eragon's brother. If you think about all the clues that they give, it's pretty obvious. Half-brothers, eh? It does make sense...in one way. It's like another reason for Brom to stay in Carvahall. Watch over his son, who may turn out to be a dragon rider, like his father...

It has been on my mind ever since I read Angela saying that. Brom and Selena. It would explain why she went away and simply..dissapeared from the storyline.

That it would. It also explains why Brom acts so familiar with Eragon when they talk. Another thing is that Brom says that he knew Selena well enough to miss her once she was gone. He was a friend of the elves, and he could be using their logic of telling the truth, but not the whole truth. To miss someone after they are gone can come from as minor a relationship as mere friends, or even aquaintances, to lovers or partners.
There is one other thing that I can think of right now. When Brom dies, he asks Eragon if he will take his blessing. As far as I can tell, a person only gives a blessing to someone if they are closely related, or they know each other extremely well, and trust them with their lives. It could mean nothing, and that Brom merely wished to give his pupil a blessing for future luck, or, it could be a father giving a blessing with his last breaths to his closest, and only living relative.

I noticed that too. And like KT (Die cucco) said, it gives Brom a reason to have gone to Carvahall out of all the places he could have. Also another reason to kill Morzan and take his sword..
And let's face it, who really wants Eragon to be related to Morzan? Wouldn't it make sense that Murtagh, fathered by Morzan, joined Galbatorix (albeit not willingly) and Eragon, fathered by Brom, would never think of it? Inheritance??
But that leaves me at a loss, because even as I thought of Eragon as Brom's child, I wondered if the last rider might be a daughter of his..but maybe..Selena? CP said he never brings anyone into the story who doesn't play a bigger role. Selena has been the most obscured character..what if she were to return and become a Rider?
No, scrap that. I don't know what I'm thinking. That was a ramble.
... Or was it? The next rider..should be a girl, female because they're stronger but..Selena?? She's the only female so far I could even think of as the next Rider..and I don't think it's very likely he'll bring in someone new to take that role..

Well, actually, it couldn't possibly be Selena, because the story specifically says that she died. Murtaugh had gone to her funeral.
Okay, getting off the subject, I wanted to get my worries out to everyone else so that I can tell if I'm parenoid, or if my fears could actually come true:
I've been thinking about Brom being Eragon's father for a while now, and it keeps making more and more sense, especially after I had just finished reading Eragon for the 3rd time last night. But then, if this is true, I realized that there is an extreme possiblility that our favorite Dragon, the one we have all come to know and love like a sister, will die.

...No it doesn't. Where does it say Morzan attended Selena's funeral?? No, don't answer that. I'm going to read them both again soon..when I have time.

I think that it said that. I know for absolute positive that he told Eragon that his mother returned, and then she died shortly afterward due to the fact that she was ill.
And sorry about the other thing about Saphira. I forgot to put in "to me". It keeps making more and more sense to me. It slips in and out of my thoughts, and a couple nights ago, I didn't have any dreams, but when I woke up, I had the exact feeling that I have after I have a premonition, and almost without my knowing, the words "Saphira is going to die" passed through my lips. I'm getting really afraid. But, should the producers of the Eragon movie screw up the dragons, heads will roll. Same goes for if Saphira dies in the third book. I will take it upon myself to hunt down and destroy anyone that had helped to bring about the unfortunate event. My imagination is too powerful. Saphira is a real person to me, and I love her like you would not believe.

I would do the same should Arya, Nasuda or Katrina become the next dragon rider. I don't think it says she returned..did it??

Yes, it does say that she returned, and when she did, she was weak, as if she had suffered some grave illness.
If you have either of the Hardback editions of "Eragon", it says it just above the middle of the page on page 389.

Okay, I just finished reading Eldest for the third time tonight, and I can't shake this feeling that I have. Do you remember Blagden's riddles right before Eragon leaves Ellesmera? When I read by that part, my mind automatically switched to my theory of Brom being Eragon's father. I get this feeling that the riddle will reveal whether or not I am correct. Has anyone had any luck in solving the riddle? I've been working at it, and I think I'm getting close, but I keep forgeting my logic in solving the riddle, and I come up with other answers. Here's the riddle for any of you that would be willing to help:
While two might share two And one of two is certainly one One might be two
This is what I've come up with so far: If you read the riddle in lines starting from the bottom, "One might be two" could be talking about a Rider and his or her Dragon, seeing as their minds are melded to the point that they are more one being than two, and the other one that I came up with for it was that maybe Eragon, who is one, might have two parents, as he is part of them by being their child. "And one of two is certainly one" could mean that one son of two people is definitly only one person, not two, meaning without multiple personalities (or something). And I can't figure out anything from the first line.
This that I have deciphered from the riddle are just guesses. Feel free to take a shot at it. I would be forever greatful if someone would help me to answer Blagden's enigmatic rhyme.

plus there is what Angela said, she said that Brom brought about the death of the woman he loved. That woman must have been Selena, he must have taken her to Carvahal, she gave birth to the baby, and when she returned she got sick because she was weak from the ordeal.
It just makes sense.
