Leaving the moon and appearing back on Earth was disorienting. It took Ganymede a few moments to adjust. The differences between the two places were obvious and drastic. Europa had been old, lonely, and empty. Destiny City looked so new in comparison, so alive, and hardly empty. It was never still, never cloaked in a haunting silence. He could not see Jupiter from here; he could see little else aside from the faintest traces of a few scattered stars through the city lights, and the lone, silver moon.
He looked back at Europa once he reoriented himself, slowly processing what he had seen, and wondering what more he had not seen. He could not ignore the urge to visit, to see what could be seen, and learn what could be learned. Ganymede was out there someone, probably as quiet and desolate as Europa, dead and crumbling and filled with ghosts.
“Maybe I will,” he replied, considering the idea and deciding it wasn’t without merit. “Go there, I mean.”
He had no idea what he’d find there, but Ganymede was waiting for him.
