Before had wobbled over to where Bix and Boss and After had gathered with two other girls. He very much wanted to just flop down on his back to regain his bearings but that didn't seem like an option. Instead, he clamped a hand tightly around Bix's arm for support. QnQ

"Nnnnnnng, we're not gonna be facing off against another death-on-hooves, are we?" he asked, half mumbling and half whimpering. The question was posed to everyone in their small group of Betas and the other two, uh, Cassandra and "Oh, hey, don't think I got your name," he realized, staring at Tika and mostly at her ******** awesome hair. *0*!!!!!
PostPosted: Sat May 28, 2011 9:20 pm

The corner of Tikas mouth fidgeted a little at Before. It was true she'd not given him her name but it was also true that this entire trip Tika hadn't said a word to anyone let alone give her name. In fact she didn't really know any ones name.

"Tikaani but you can call me Tika if you rather." There was a pause as she really took a look over Before and next she examined Cassandra. The teen managed the friendliest smile could muster at them both. "I'm sorry but I don't think I know either of your names." The sack over her shoulder slipped a little and Tika found her self quickly gathering it up again. This time she tightened the strap so it wouldn't hang as loose as it had been before.

Cassandra ultimately had to settle on what stuff she had, happy to not see some nunchucks to take herself out with. In fact, having ANY sort of weapon was nice for her, given she'd only had one she killed herself with the first one she'd had. She didn't want a chance to do that again.

The thought kind of made her face fall, her shoulders drooping. None the less, she put her pack over her shoulder and her hand on her opposite hip. "Well. I guess the worse case scenerio is that this kills me again. And I've experienced it. Twice. It can't be that bad." she grinned, a certain surge of confidence striking the girl up as her shoulders straightened out and she held herself up tall again.

Oh yeah. She could totally handle whatever it was this guy was going to throw at her. Though she was still lingering on the idea of the weapon she'd had with her. Her hands felt empty. She gripped both hands into fists, staring at them intensely.

INTENSE.

FACE.

She probably looked like she was leering at sand.

All Gale did when Before came staggering out of the helicopter and fall to his knees on the sand wailing was lift a brow.

"Dude," he said. "Watch your step."

Then he grinned, reaching out to help the other up and glanced over as Ariane came trotting over towards where they were standing. "Glad to see you enjoyed the ride, Boss," he said, grinning at the older girl before his gaze flickered briefly around the somewhat motley crew beginning to form. There was that louder guy with the purple and red hair (he seemed to be having a good time), who Gale recognized from the orientation meeting, as well as the dark skinned girl with short black hair and Caitlin, if he remembered correctly - the former Epsilons. But there were also a few people that Gale didn't recognize, such as the one with a white streak in his hair, and the girl with a mohawk (was that a mohawk?). He blinked at her, slightly in awe as Bix wandered over to their little group.

"Sup, Bix?" Gale said, then resumed his peering at the one who introduced herself as Tika.

Petra had arrived in a similar mood to the one she had started the day with, a cool, mechanical look that gave no impressions that she wanted to 'make friends' or 'talk about what had happened.' But that seemed to be ok by everyone else -- no one seemed particularly interested in being chatty about their time on the island, or at least no that she had seen. And really, who would want to? They'd all done things... things they weren't proud of. Some worse than others... perhaps they'd only said something they should have to someone they shouldn't have. Or maybe they shattered someone's arm and watched their neck crack. Watched a friend get decapitated. Promised something they thought they'd never promise again. Although her face showed complete indifference as she followed Robert and the rest of the Phoenixes onto the helicopter, she knew it was a lie. On the inside, she was feeling just as sulky as he was.

But it was funny, how the prospect of death could make you forget everything you were pretending to be.

The sound of the whirling blades and cracks of thunder didn't have to silence any cries from the girl sitting shock-straight in her seat, although her ocean blue eyes were open wide enough to show she was mentally screaming. In fact, although the rain and wind tugged and soaked her long black hair only to toss it back in her face, she hardly blinked an eye, closing her eyes to only to blink away the perpetual spray. It was hard to tell if she could even HEAR the boy beside her who seemed to be having the time of his life, or anyone else for that matter -- clinging white-knuckled to the bottom of the seat, she looked too wrapped up in mentally convincing herself everything would be ok. To be honest, although it was hard to tell, it was working moderately well for the most part. She hadn't screamed like some of the others had, and she wasn't crying. That was all she needed, especially after Robert had carried her off and demeaned her in front of not only their new 'boss' but their peers.

That was, until she saw the maelstrom.

She really had told herself she wasn't going to cling to him. But as those large, warm, familiar arms wrapped around her, her fingers automatically unclenched from the seat, tangling themselves in the front of his shirt as she glued herself to his chest, just like she had all those times when he'd chased away the nightmares. She forgot about everything, what he'd done and why she was mad at him. She didn't hear the words he tried to murmur in her ear, but she could feel his breath change against her skin, feel his lips move as if he were talking, and she guessed the rest, repeating something of her own over and over as the helicopter felt like it was being ripped apart.

The first indication that everything was fine should have been the lack of rushing wind, screaming passengers, and vibrating metal beneath them, but it still took Petra Walker a good few minutes before she allowed herself to look up from Robert's chest, not even daring to let go of his shirt to brush away a lock of soaked black hair that hung in front of her eyes. Logically, they could have been dead for all she knew, and if that was the case, lingering in ignorance for half a second longer wouldn't matter anyway. But they weren't dead -- in fact, it seemed almost like a paradise, clear blue water stretching out as far as the eye could see, meeting an equally blue horizon so you didn't know where the water ended and the sky began. As the helicopter landed, the beach too spread on for miles, white sand like some sort of fantasy vacation. Flicking her eyes to Caelius, (she really had no interest in figure out how HE'D gotten there -- jfc, that was the last thing on her mind,) she stared at him for a few seconds, glancing at the packs she hadn't noticed before.

It was almost like deja vu. Except totally not. Like, at all.

Robert's voice brought her from her reverie, having completely forgotten she was still holding onto him like he was the last solid thing on earth. For a second she just looked up at him, meeting his eyes for that moment before snapping them away immediately, letting go of his shirt and unclipping her seatbelt, fumbling for a pack and exiting the helicopter shakily. "Fine," she answered in an unconvincing tone, nearly falling as her legs failed to support her after such a wild ride. The only roller coasters she'd ever been on had been the smaller ones at carnivals. She'd been on a plane only once, where they'd served her mini pretzels and gave her sprite to sip, where the bumpiest part had been a mild landing. This lifestyle might take a little getting used to.

For just a minute, in the screaming darkness, where everything should have felt like a nightmare, he was happy.

Then the sunshine went and ruined everything.

The moment Petra pushed herself away, he felt a tangible rip in his heart, and slumped back into his seat. This was getting ridiculous, and he wasn't sure he was up to the task of dealing with this much heartbreak while trying to fight off enemies on some sandy beach again.

He'd rather just lay there and sunburn to a crisp.

He heard the clipped response, and when she had exitted, he sullenly grabbed a bag of supplies and slumped out of the helicopter, mumbling under his breath to himself sarcastically.

"Well I'm not."

Caelius was already a good twenty yards away by the time the first trainee had noticed, his figure already retreating into the sand dunes behind. And by the time the first trainee caught up, he was already at the edge of what seemed like a small beachside resort, a sign dangling beside him writing "Vacancies Always Available" in a thick layer of fresh red paint. Though the door to the modest two-story 'resort' was open, the counter inside seemed empty.

"This way." The Hunter dismissed his weapon, walking briskly, until they reached the next cluster of small buildings, all decorated in a cheesy tourist-friendly signs and local decor. All of them remarked that they were open, but oddly, contained no signs of life inside. A couple of them showed strange signs of vandalism, busted windows, turned over shelves, but nothing extraordinary.

No instead, the oddest thing, or rather, series of things, lay roughly ten feet outside any of the buildings, in a strange clustered semi-circle. Caelius strode over, giving the pile a prod with his foot, revealing it to be nothing but discarded, slightly tattered clothing and what looked like-

-"9 mm semi-automatic, also known as a handgun." The Hunter instructor picked one of them up, finally turning at last to face the straggling trainees. "First thing you do is check the magazine, it is best to reload it. Release the magazine release button on the side- "click-"and push the new one inside- "click"- until you hear it lock in place. Firing is simple, place your hand high on the gun, and hold it as tight as possible to absorb recoil. Make sure the safety release is off here, position yourself to a slight fourty-five degree angle, foot forward, and aim for your target before firing."

BANG

The sound echoed throughout the expanse as the bullet flew into the sand.

"The first rule of this training exercise: do not get too comfortable with only what is given to you. A Hunter so for two reasons: they are granted both their own survival skills and a weapon. Do not treat your weapon as your lifeline. Those familiar with Hunters go for the first of two things, your life and your weapon. They often think that crippling a Hunter is simple, just remove their weapon. I will remind you again however, you are not warriors, you ARE Hunters. You will learn to use everything given to you for the situation to your advantage."

He kicked the remaining pile closer towards the trainees, head never looking away from oddly enough, the buildings themselves. "Now I never was one to believe in safety, so consider this mission your first real experience."

As Caelius continued talking, something unusual indeed happened. The air seemed to flicker, ripple, and then even stranger, a voice, a strange guttural voice, chanting nonsensical words even as the Hunter trainer continued to talk over it. The sky seemed to turn darker, the white-washed buildings more ominous. "Ahh good, they sense your fear. It's hunting time."

PostPosted: Sun May 29, 2011 12:17 pm

As if motivated by that single word, Fear, the voice escalated to a high pitched giggle, fading away an ear-ringing echo.

And then something stirred, location betrayed by a series of syncopated thumbs, its feet against the wooden boards. The figure itself seemed strange, it looked like a crippled old woman, covered in tattered clothing - were those bloodstains? - walking one slow step at a time, head downcast, arms dangling lifelessly beside it. It tilted its head slowly upwards, reaching up with one withered arm to -

Bang

The bullet sent the figure flying backwards, slamming straight against the wall. The second ripped its arm clean off, the third should have easily dislocated its leg. And yet, a visible five seconds later, the figure shuddered and continued walking.

"Well, what are you waiting for, are you going to practice training or what?" Caelius gestured towards the abandoned arsenal beside him. "Are we going to talk about the ethical matters of what we're doing now, or would you rather wait until after the mission, with a chance actually being guaranteed alive?"

- Your trainee can choose at this point to pick up a hand gun
- Simply follow the RP cues, and attack the ??? figure by rolling TWO 6-sided dice
- The FIRST dice determines the damage you do to the ??? figure the second if you hit OR miss. Odd is miss, EVEN is hit.
- Example roll: I roll a 5 and a 6. 6 = even = I hit, 5 = the damage I do
- Example roll 2: I roll a 5 and a 5. 5 = I miss, I do no damage.
- Each trainee can fire THREE times within the turn.
- Dont forget to RP out the result after the roll ))

She needed no further instructions.

Picking up a gun from the ground, she did as Caelius had showed them just a moment ago and reloaded it, hearing the satisfying 'click' from it; she didn't know who or what that... Thing is, but she did not want to find out with it touching any one of them. Besides, that odd sensation she felt a second ago... Excitement? Fear? No, more like a mixture of both. Either way, she was grinning, her heart racing.

All she knew was that she had been given a gun, and she had been ordered by a superior to shoot.

So she shot.

"s**t," She muttered, wincing slightly at the recoil and then frowning when she realized that she had missed her target completely. Ugh. Turning to face her fellow ex-Betas, she recalled how Before and Bix both had guns before on the island... And didn't Gale mention a gun as the 'weapon in his mind'? Heh, maybe they'll have a better aim then her.

"Oi, don't just stand there. You heard what he said... PUT YOUR GUNS ON." She grinned as she reloaded her gun, holding it up after hearing a soft 'click' and aiming it at the thing again; she seriously hates failing.

Gale followed along behind Caelius (who, along with his weird ability to beat them to a remote island in the middle of nowhere looking perfectly at ease with himself, also had a strange way of managing to walk several yards away before anyone realized it), every now and then casting a curious glance around at their surroundings. He had to jog to catch up to their instructor (How did he walk so fast, anyway?), his eyes moving to the small building.

A resort? Gale wondered, tilting his head, his hands wrapping around the straps of his backpack as he regarded the building somewhat suspiciously. What are we doing here?

Except by this time Caelius had, yet again, moved on, and Gale hurried after. The place was like a ghost town; there was no movement except for their own shuffling after the man, no sound except for the ocean and their own footsteps. It was weird.

...though apparently not as weird as the fact that Caelius had stopped in front of a pile of what looked like guns. Gale's eyes widened slightly, a slightly excited expression crossing his face. Memories of the weapon he had held before came rushing into his mind; the feel of the metal beneath his fingertips, and eagerly he took a step towards the pile.

BANG.

First came the gunshot (Caelius' doing). Then the air rippling (rippling?) and then the world around them seemed to shift, strange sounds emanating from what seemed like nowhere. Gale glanced around, his heart pounding in his chest at the sight of the figure that had appeared. He looked at it for a long moment.

Then he reached down, grabbed a gun, and promptly snapped open the magazine, reloading it as best he could, trying to remember how Caelius had done it. There was a sharp click as he released it, a bit of fumbling as he tried to listen to it lock in place (he was not used to this), and then finally it was done, and Gale swung around, his arms outstretched, gun held tightly between his hands. Squinting one eye shut, he directed his weapon towards the figure. Then he squeezed the trigger.

Bang.

Gale arms jerked as the gun went off, the sound exploding in his ears. It made him stagger a bit, flinching at the recoil, but to his great pleasure his aim had been good. The bullet struck the figure in the arm - not an excellent shot, but a shot nonetheless. He turned to glance at Ariane, grinning.

"How's that for 'putting my guns on', Boss?"

With his experiences on the island so far taught him not to rely on weapons anyhow. For one? They totally reached back and smacked you and your own fists sometimes even failed you. The most trustworthy weapon he had was given to him by a dying comrade during a test and that was the only one he'd come to rely on in any sense.

His heart made a terrible thud against his chest as the atmosphere he'd wandered into went from cheesy tourist land to something more foreboding. Not again. Always with the danger and terror. He was hoping for a small break in the fighting and the horror and ...everything.

Now was the time to put his big boy pants on as he moved to get the gun and took the time (despite imminent danger) to make sure it was ready to go before he shakily moved to aim it and fired at the figure.

The shot hit raising his confidence and stilling the shaking a little, "I hit it," he murmured mystified and oddly feeling no guilt.

"HAHAHA, not bad, Gale," She grinned, tilting her head in his direction before turning to examine the wound he had made on their target; how is it still moving? The way it staggered and moved... It was like the scene straight out of a horror movie, except this is real life and not moving pictures on a screen.

Heh, this is real... How's that, old man?

"Jeremy and I told you so," She muttered to herself before pulling the trigger once again, sending a bullet flying towards their target. This time, it landed and her grin grew just a little as she pointed the barrel at the ground, reloading it again; this was getting a little easier...

"H-hey! Wait!" Candace called after him and started to run, chasing after Caelius as quickly as she could through the sand. Damn! Running in sand was hard! At least there wasn't any of that stupid armor on her now, being all big and bulky and clunky and heavy. The resort was given an odd look, though her focus was merely on trying to keep up with the man ahead of them all. An abandoned town? How long had this been here? She made a sound of awe as she looked toward each broken window, each abandoned building.

"also known as a handgun."

...What. Candace tensed and turned to Cael, eyes glued to the gun in his hand. Are you serious? They had to use a gun? "And these guns aren't defective? The one I had during that...test...never worked." She would aim at something and then hit something else entirely. It sucked. She was much better with blades. Beautiful, glowing blad--AH AH! Had to stop that right this second or she'd begin to obsess over it again. She was fine with learning whatever Cael wanted them to do, and she was more than okay with adapting, but she just wanted a gun that worked this time. She didn't trust guns. Because guns didn't kill people, they never ******** worked.

As the air suddenly began to flicked and ripple like something in a dream Candace's eyes widened and she looked all around, having never seen anything like this. Wh-what was going on!?

Bang! Bang! Bang! Candace barely flinched as the three shots suddenly fired, her gaze turning toward the--was that an old woman? What the hell? Why was she covered in blood? Perhaps she killed someone...in her... "...Is that a ghost?" She frowned, looking down at her gun. Well, might as well make sure this thing worked. She followed the instructions, checking the magazine and then popping it back into the gun. Magazine releas--oh, there it was. She listened for the two clicks, and then she held the gun tightly in both hands, aimed for the old woman and fired..

Whoa! She actually hit her! Sure, she graze the woman's side but..but she hit something! Candace grinned. Finally, a gun that worked.

Bix steadied Before as his friend clung to him. There were new people, ones who weren't at the orientation meeting. DAMN! He'd made a point, in his room, to run through the names in his head so he could remember everyone. Somehow he only seemed to remember the Betas and ... all the girls.

"Tika.. I'm Bix. That's Before, Ariane, Gale.. Hi Cassandra.." He tried to wave all cool like. Like 'hey I remember your name, I am cool right?' but it all fell apart when he noticed Caelius just walked away and left them chatting. "C'mon guys!"

An abandoned resort? Well it looked abandoned. Bix wanted to laugh when they got handguns (island flashback!) but had no chance. The sky darkened, a freaky monster appeared and all he could think about was his FAILURE with a gun during his time on the island.

Bix fiddled with the various buttons, trying to get the reloading instructions correct before turning and doing his best at targetting the monster. Funny enough, he felt more comfortable with a gun. He didn't want to be all up in ANY monster's face.

His first shot went wide but the gun did have a bit more kick than the one he'd fired that was packed with rubber bullets. He would take that into account for his next shot.
