A blink and then a scowl -- because, well, Ilmenite did kind of resent that. The temptation to follow via the same route was tempting, except for the ensuing exhaustion, and the fact that then he'd be entirely unable to escape, should something go awry. Damnit.
There was a fire escape up the side, and for a moment he wobbled between taking the easy way up and proving to Zink that he was more than capable of scaling any building. Eventually, he decided that the easy way up was kind of like scaling a building, and showed resourceful intelligence.
He had to fumble with the ladder, but once he got it he hauled himself up the stairs, wincing at each footfall. Even moving quietly, the entire thing rattled and clanked and gave him away long before he appeared over the lip of the building.

At the top... there was a picnic blanket, a bottle of soda, a few covered plates and a...rather smashed looking tray of cupcakes. Just beyond you could make out what looked like a huge blank billboard, but cars were pulling up on front of it and parking.
"This...would work a lot better if I had a -car-" he admitted. "But I don't...so Instead I have a pirated audio tape of the dialog and music...and a drive in movie screen. Welcome to your first screening of Star Wars."

A pause, a blink, and then a raised eyebrow -- Ilmenite torn between confusion and amusement but mostly just thinking Zink was painfully adorable, even when he was in uniform. Was this inappropriate? Fraternizing? Ilmenite didn't really care, though it did probably mean he couldn't lean in too close once they were caught up in the story...
"What even made you think of this?" He was glad, now, that he'd taken the easy route. It meant he wasn't too tired, he could ease over to the edge of the building and peer down at the mess of cars below, the blank screen, taking in the view.

He shrugged a little and pulled a handfull of batteries out of the shoulder bag. "I saw it in the paper, and I remembered that you hadn't seen it. Sometimes I take tea when I'm watching a target or Senshi... Wasn't too much stretch to turn it into a picnic."
"besides... Sometimes it's just easier to do things in uniform."

"It also risks some stupid senshi coming along and breaking up our fun, though, doesn't it?" It came with a crooked smile, though; his attention was still turned on the screen, and maybe Ilmenite wasn't all that worried about the possibility of an attack. He was with Zink, after all, and in his experience -- well, Zink did pretty well.
He turned, finally, with a shrug. His expression might have been flattered. Bemused. This was unusual. "What did you bring?"

"...Umm... Sandwiches from "RedLine Subs...soup in the thermos... no salad or anything like that... cupcakes that were at one time intact...for a few minutes anyhow. Tea which you get to live with as a drink." He shrugged and shifted into a more comfortable sitting position.
"Besides... no worse risk from the senshi than from other students... not really."

Ilmenite hesitated, fidgeted -- and then dropped down next to Zac, gracelessly. Leaning back on his hands, he tipped his head a little to watch the younger man, debating which direction he wanted things to turn, for now.
"Are they still giving you a hard time?" Serious, then, even if it left him sighing a bit. They could go for less serious during the movie, maybe. Or after.

He gave a small shrug, dismissive, it may or may not have been any kind of answer at all. "everyone needs a hobby." he did add after a moment.
He looked thoughtful for a second. "less though... " he sounded at least a little surprised. "I sent out college applications today as well..." he said sounding almost apologetic. "trying for a scholarship... "

"Where?" He licked his lips, thinking about that, his legs stretched out and eyes sliding off of Zink. He very much wanted to say 'good for you', or to encourage it, but a small and selfish part of him couldn't quite do it. Jealousy twisted, some.
"Straight to DCU?" His tone stayed even, at least. Not bitter. Maybe he was alright with it, or at least alright enough.

"Probably..." He admitted and then added with an arched eyebrow. "...thought I might inflict some of my hope work assignments on you... I wonder if I couldn't slip them in for grading...depends how attentive the teacher is."
He gave a small smirk like he rather thought it could be an entertaining little diversion, get a class where the teacher was too distracted or where the class was too large and just see what he could do to mess with the system.
He sighed though suddenly and slumped. "Kind of HAS to be DCU... I have too much to do here to go to any of the out of state schools I wanted."

"It makes sense. Worthwhile endeavor." A pause, and then he leaned forward a little, folding his legs in, to grab the soda. Non-alcoholic, that fact made him quirk a twitch of a smile, fumbling around to pour them both something to drink. Zac was young. He was also ridiculously adorable. And Ever was a terrible person...
Ah well. Fun while it lasted. He blinked up at Zink, shrugging and screwing the lid back on one-handed. "Can share your notes anyway, right?"

"Better learn to read them quickly..." He said putting back on a grin. "Though I suppose that if I typed them long hand for you after... It would improve my memory of the subjects as well." He said contemplating. "...Might trade you to teach me some of that Damned Latin..."
A pause and he frowned at the screen, his hand started to drift towards the play button and then paused as popcorn and soda started to do a jig around the screen. "Right... stupid advertisements...." He grumbled.

"I've figured out some of..." An argument as to just how fast he'd learn Zink's short hand was forgotten in the face of the ads. They should have been moring, but they got Ilmenite upright and leaning forward, the rest of his comment dying on the tip of his tongue.
He was engrossed; it had been an impossibly long time since he last saw a movie, so even the opening reminders were new, to him. The flickering of images on the screen. The low resolution and muffled, distant sound. None of it mattered, just about now.
He made a small noise, settling in comfortably with the cup hanging from his hand.

Zink paused, glacing at Ilmenite's face, the utter facination with the prancing popcorn and soda pop amused him to no end. "... need to your you one of those personal DVD players...then again I think we'd never see you again." He chuckled softly and returned to studying the screen waiting for the first hint that he should start their 'personal audio.'
"I'm never going to get this right..." He cursed and then made an interesting frustrated squawk when it went strait from popcorn to scrolling white text. He fumbled for the button, hit rewind which clicked off almost immediately...fast forwarded a split second then hit play.

His eyes flashed to Zink at the fumbling, a grin flashing briefly across his face and shoulders hiked in a quick shrug. "It's...I don't...do this often."
Ilmenite might have elaborated, except for the sudden intrusion of text on the screen. That got him fully up out of his seat and moving in closer so that he could actually read it, head tipped to the side. Almost at the edge of the roof. Might be wise to haul the rest of the picnic over, too.
