I just joined but I can already guess where some issues would come up at. I think we should be hidden.
It would be better to go all the way and not allow people to see anything at all. It could be better in the long run.

badloki Thanks for the input y'all. I REALLY appreciate it! And I agree, for the trolling and other similar problems, going Private would be perfect! However, this newest issue that the GPG Staff is currently dealing with is what is making me consider going hidden. You see, it isn't trolling that is the cause of this problem. Without going into too much detail, it has to do with people seeing/reading certain things in our guild, then acting immaturely with that info. So that's why the Hidden option has come up. If the guild were Hidden, then these people couldn't see the info and therefore couldn't use it in the fashion in which it is being used. If it were Private, then they could still see the info. And that's the crux of the problem. My stand and goal was to ALWAYS keep this guild as Public and accessible to EVERYONE as possible. But because of the actions of a certain group, this is now jeopardized. I don't want to isolate ourselves from our primary function (being a place for people to come get info/ask questions with no pressure added), but at the same time, I don't want to expose the guild to certain people who wish to behave in an ill manner. In that case then, for this problem, perhaps Hidden would in fact be better. If you do choose to do that Loki, you have my support. I know that if I were forced to do so too, I would very reluctantly make my guild Hidden. But only if absolutely necessary. So I can see where you're coming from. heart

I think as long as our acceptance policy is still as open as it currently is being Hidden wouldn't be such a big problem.
I know most of the guilds I belong to I've followed links to and when I wanted to see the forums I just applied.

Hmm, normally I'd say private because itws bugs me when I'm interested in a guild but I can't see what I'm getting into before I join. I've lost many a gold that way.
But the GPG has made information available in others areas of Gaia, so people can still be aided by the information within.
So, if the guild has had something happen to even consider changing from public, i'd say Hidden. Better to go all the way then only half.
I think the guild's reputation is enough to keep people from needing to preview before joining.

Hrm, While I did vote "Private" at first, reading this over is giving me second thoughts. I am just a supporter, but I have to agree with the "Hidden" option now. If this issue is endangering the members and/or is causing problems with the immaturity in other forums, it may just be best for the guild. There is no entry fee, so if users join and they don't think the guild is for them, they aren't loosing anything.
Is that pregnancy thread still around? The guild could just link to there, so anyone pregnant could still get information. In turn, it could still provide some of the information the guild essentially provides, but it's not public.
In the end, I will support 100% what the guild chooses.

I personally think a private status might be a happy balance. I mean.. there may be some parents who are shy or not comfortable as not knowing anyone in here to join right away, but they like reading what other parents have to say... but, they can still read even if they don't want to contribute.
However, even with my personal rp guild with my gaia family. Without as many members as the GPG had.. we had some issues where we had some weirdos coming in and posting crap. I had to delete and ban.. making it private saves trouble, so if they want to post and be active, they need to go through a screening process so riff raff doesn't float in.
Edit: I went through and read more about what has been said why this is even an issue.. but.. I think it's really freaking ridiculous for it to even come to this.. i mean.. since when becuase of what you see others say a reason for you to try and do somethign stupid? I mean.. if there are groups doing stuff.. is it happening just to discredit the guild? Is it an attack on the guild as a whole? Or.. is it just people being stupid and trying to use what we do here as a scapegoat to avoid taking responsibility for their own immaturity? I take it you guys don't want to make the entire premise public here.. i guess if it went hidden.. well, I dunno. I will still be a member and support this guild no matter what.

It goes beyond that though. Thanks to the new profiles it's extremely easy to see what guilds a person posts in and then read their posts. We already had one girl deal with harrassment when it was just a thread that everyone could read. I assure you Grace that this was not an easy decision for Loki. She would only bring this up if it were completely neccessary.

Grace, I understand the way you feel. It *is* somewhat ridiculous that things may have to come to this. And it's a VERY frustrating thing to have to go through. Do I want us to be hidden or private? No. I WANT us to remain public as always. However, other people are forcing this issue whether I want to deal with it or not.
I really do not want to go into detail over what has caused this because I feel it would only make the problem worse. But I am doing everything that can be done to alleviate the problem and avoid as much aggrevation as possible for us all.

I've thought a lot about this I am total unsure. sweatdrop All I can say is I'll support what ever you choose. I think given current situations, going hidden is the most fitting, choice however. Besides I haven't really noticed many (or any) people that are not members posting, so if they are intersested they could just join. (We could add something to the rules, if we go hidden, that you don't have to post if you just want info.) Anyway I don't see any harm in being hidden or private. If it will make life easier, why not? Hey I guess I did have an opinion, lol.

I think we should go private. We all talk about our private lives and families... I dont think that everyone should be able to read it.
I know I dont post what i want all the time in the fear that someone i dont want reading it will read it.

I belive that we should be private, that way others can come, and get info or they can get a username to contact if they have questions or anything..... but i dont agree with going hidden

I'm not sure what the difference between private and hidden is, but I purposefully searched for a guild like this and would have joined regardless of whether I could have browsed it first or not.
I'm in favor becoming more private (or hidden - whatever!) because like someone mentioned, there are very personal things that are discussed here, not to mention the pictures being posted. As much as you hate to say it, the internet is full of weirdos and while I participate in the picture posting thread and talk about my baby and nursing and other stuff too, when I sit down and really think about the kinds of people out there, it really does make me think I should be more careful with what I put out there. You never know what can come of the most innocent posting. With Gaia being such a huge forum, no doubt there are creepy people out there prowling around.
So whatever would give the posters here more security, I'm all for that. Yes we want this to be an open forum where people can come, but at the same time, we want this to be a safe forum as well.
