She heard what he was saying but she couldn't believe her ears. The first part was understood, slightly, but almost immediately thrown out of her mind as she heard the second part. The words. The words were almost the same as before. The words she couldn't handle. The words she didn't want to hear again. Why were those words being told to her again? She had only just found him! She had been quiet in her thoughts for the while he was guiding them to a spot Ainsley was more familiar with as she thought about it all. She didn't even have a chance to object to herself as the tears began to fall from her eyes.
"N-no..." she whimpered as they'd gotten to the playground. It wasn't that she didn't know her way home from here, but the closer she got to home meant the closer she was to not seeing Camelot ever again. It was just like Gwenliana all over again. Would he disappear to where she was to watch over her too? She didn't want this and history began to repeat itself as she clung to Camelot's side, wrapping her arms around him tightly as he could so he couldn't get away. If he was hoping for no strange looks, Ainsley wasn't making it easy.
"There's... there's no monster here now but I hurt. I don't want you to go somewhere I can't ever see you again." She was positive Camelot wasn't going to fit in the freezer, and he certainly wasn't a snow dancer like Gwenliana. He could stay here. He wasn't disappearing from her hands. She looked to make sure and with a relieved sigh she felt a little bit better. He was still here!

Camelot wasn't sure he knew what was going on.
"Ainsley..." he watched her as she started to cry, stopping and kneeling again to look at her, guiding her back only as he moved, then letting her cling to him. He looked very perplexed, patting her back reassuringly.
He hugged her to him, shaking his head.
"Ainsley, I'm not going anywhere but home tonight. I'll be back out tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, and whenever you need me to protect you, I'll be there for you. You'll see me again, I promise." He had no intentions of going anywhere she couldn't follow, though her sudden words made him wonder what she had lost. Who. He didn't think someone so young should be familiar with death, but what did he know about her personal experiences?
He hadn't meant to upset her.
"Don't worry, little Princess. You'll see me again." He smiled at her, still solid and whole, not going anywhere for the moment.

Those were the words she wanted to hear. They were comforting words and added on to the fact he wasn't disappearing allowed for the child to relax some, releasing her vice grip on him. He was a proper gentleman though, a perfect knight. He'd even protected her from sorrow as he comforted her worries and hugged her gently. She pulled away from him, even brushing off his clothes with her hand from where she'd cried on him.
"Thank you," she said with a nod. "I'm so glad."
She stayed quiet for a moment afterward as she enjoyed the silence and peace that had fallen upon them. It had been such an exciting moment full of commotion and worries and it was nice to take a moment just to enjoy things. She took a look around the park, wiping the tears from the corner of her eyes, as she finally looked at her surroundings and pointed into a direction following a path. "I live that way."

Camelot was glad when she stopped crying, smiling at her and patting her shoulder reassuringly. He would have had to start panicking soon, if she had kept going. There were many things in the world that he just did not have much experience in. Taking care of kids not least of all.
But he had picked up patience and a few tricks from his years at the library, at least. And paternal instincts from the introduction of his son not too long ago. It seemed like an eternity, of course, but it couldn't have been that long. In any case, he still hated seeing kids cry, and had little experience in cheering them up when it was anything more than being upset if he took their book from them so he could check it out for their parents.
All he had to do then was give it back. Not quite as simple, or even translatable, when a kid was crying about not wanting him to vanish. Die. Go away forever.
He nodded, smiling and then standing back up at length. He offered her his hand. "Let's get you home, then."

Ainsley gave a tiny smile back to Camelot, quickly taking his offer by placing her own hand into his. She gave him a bit of a squeeze with her hand, pulling his arm in the direction of her home as she lead the way. It was quite the sight as they walked down the street, a young girl pulling along a strangely dressed man. If only Ainsley had worn her princess outfit and if only Camelot had a horse. It could only be more interesting if that was the case, but at least it was quiet by the time they got to her street. Most of the residents were elderly and if they seen something strange they could leave it to their bad sight or aged melon.
Either way, the two eventually got to Ainsley's home without much of a peep.
"This is where I live," she said to Camelot, looking from the house to him.
She was both happy and sad to be home. She was happy that she was finally home and she could go to the freezer and tell Gwenliana all about her day and how she met a knight but she was sad that now that she was home Camelot would be going home as well and there was no telling when she'd see him again. She didn't want to let him go and as a result she found herself holding his hand to the very end.

Camelot was glad that nothing more leaped out at them as they walked, keeping his senses peeled for any sign of a Nega or some other form of threat that might deign to attack a young kid. No more youmas appeared, though, and things were quiet.
Once they reached her house, he looked down at her.
"Alright, head on inside. I will see you again. Stay safe."
He let go of her hand, but found her clinging to him. He smiled reassuringly, silently reaffirming that he wasn't just going to vanish completely. If she needed him when she was in danger, he would be there. And if things were safe and simple, which he hoped they would stay for the young girl, he would visit her just to check up on her. Plus, she would still see him at the library whenever she came to visit Dogby.
Not that she would know that.
He let her go and then moved off, not wanting to keep her too long. He waved and then bowed at her, before disappearing down a nearby street.

The child was sad to see her knight go but she had hope to see him again and with a small smile lingering on her lips she waved goodbye to him as he walked away. She couldn't help but eye the direction he was walking, wondering if that was the way he lived. Was it nearby? Perhaps seeing him again wouldn't be an unfathomable stretch and would happen sooner than she expected. If anything, she would go to the library and read some stories about knights and their heroism to keep her at bay. Perhaps the knight would visit the library. That wouldn't be too strange, would it? There were tons of books about knights in the library after all. Perhaps Camelot would have to do some research sometime too.
After Camelot was finally out of view, the child wobbled up the stairs and into the house where she quickly skipped to the kitchen. She found herself a chair and pulled it over to the freezer and stepped up on top of it so she could have a clear view into the freezer when she opened the door with a bright smile and a hello. There she continued to recap her day, including the tale of her meeting a knight and him saving her from a dragon. Surely Gwenliana would appreciate the story of Princess Ainsley being saved from the fierce dragon by Camelot the Knight.
