"It was a heavy rain storm that was completely out of season. It dumped buckets while thunder cracked and lightning lit up the sky. It was actually rather pretty. The only thing I didn't like was the wind. It blew so hard I had to stay in the back of my cave to keep out of the stray drops of rain that blew in. Not to mention the howling it made blowing past the entrance to my home."
Ambra smirked at the remembered irritation she had felt that next morning before turning back to Unai and taking in his expression. Behind her glasses she norrowed her eyes at him. "Oh, no you don't. You aren't allowed to worry about storms. I have a large, sturdy cave made of rock, so no mud slides, and the cave is halfway up a cliff, so I wont be getting flooded out no matter how much it rains." she said only a little sternly. She was actually somewhat flattered that he might worry about her.

"But what if a mudslid comes down the hill and buries your cave, or even sweeps it away by means of errosion?" Even though Unai had been trying his hardest not to start on his worrying over matters gone and past, he couldn't really help himself. Maybe he might have been able to hold it in, but it probably would have popped out at some point in time. It was something of a curse, since he had an excellent memory.

Ambra smiled and shook her head. "My cave is in a cliff face made of rock. Mudslides wont happen. Rock slides, however, happen quite frequently. Luckily, I picked a cave with a large over hang. The rocks go right over and land at the base of the cliff, not in my cave. Perhaps you can come visit sometime and you'll can see that the cave is quite safe. Or at least as safe as anywhere else."

Unai tilted his head. "What about if the overhang collapses? Then you'd be trapped inside the cave and slowly starve to death." Yea, he was definetly going to have to see it all before he quit coming up with reasons to worry. Would he have to ask for permission to go, or could he just up and leave? Hmmmm. Unai shoved that thought aside in his mind for the moment and turned his attention back to Ambra.
"So, is there anything you'd like to do? I don't mind just sitting and chatting, but I'd be a bad host not to ask." He couldn't really see what Ambra would want to do here at the edge of this desert, but perhaps he'd lived too close to the thing for so long to really see the beauty of it.

Ambra smiled and shook her head. "Unai. I'm safe. I officially invite you over to inspect my cave and see it for yourself whenever you get the inclination." The tiger female said, twitching her tail in amusement.
"Well, as I've never really been in the desert, why don't you show me around. You can start with that odd, spiky, green plant over there." She said, eying the strange looking plant. She'd never seen anything like that in her home by the cliffs. The plant looked like something she wouldn't want to tangle with, but it had such pretty flowers on it. The contradiction was intriguing.

Unai looked over in the direction Ambra had indicated, though he didn't really have to look to know what she was talking about. There weren't many green things in the desert, let along spiky green things...
"That's a cactus," he responded. "Their fruits are quite tasty. And they don't taste too good, but the green bits are very moist and good to chew on if you're stuck somewhere without water." He raised an eyebrow. "All that good stuff, it's kinda natural they'd grow all those spikes to keep others from eating 'em."

Ambra turned to look at Unai. "It bears fruit? And you've actually been able to get past the spikes in order to get some? How clever. Can you show me how?" She asked, tail waving behind her as she sent Unai a smile.
Looking back at the cactus, she wondered how such a large plant was able to survive out here. Most every plant was small, dry, and brittle. The cactus was large and looked, like Unai had said, very moist.

Unai nodded. "Yea. Wild hogs like to eat 'em, mostly." He paused to look seriously at Ambra. "If you see a pack of those, run. They're greedy creatures that are always trying to get at food, and they don't mind fighting you for it. They're pretty stupid too, they don't know when to just give up or die."
That warning delivered, he walked over to the nearest cactus. "See the flowers? The fruits come from them. I'm told roses do something similar. Usually you just gotta find a stick, and you can knock the fruits free. They're pretty tiny, but they taste alright."

Hogs? They sounded like the boars that roamed around the woods under her cave. "I'll make sure to stear clear of them. You didn't get into many run-ins with them, did you?" She asked, concern tinging her tone.
Picking up a stick, she poked at one of the flowers. "Like this?" She asked, giggling a little since she felt just a tad foolish poking at a flower.

Unai snorted. "I'd rather climb a cactus than deal with a wild hog." He looked pointedly at the cactus, then back at Ambra. "Since you're talking to a fox rather than a hedgehog, I've been very lucky in not coming across any so far. Just distance sightings."
He felt his face twitching as he watched Ambra poke the cactus. It took him a moment to realize he was trying to keep from laughing! But really, someone as sophisticated-looking as Ambra poking a plant with a stick...

The picture of a headgehog with cactus spines and Unai's face was a bit too much. Ambra laughed and dropped her stick, catching Unai's lip twitching out of the corner of her eye. She figured that was more about how she looked poking a plant though and giggled again. She probably looked ridiculous.
"Hmmm...perhaps I should stick to catching prey rather than poking at flowers." She said, giving Unai a grin.

Unai shrugged. "Only if you're concerned with how you look," he said, then grinned. "I find that when you're hungry enough you throw dignity to the four winds and eat whatever you can get however you can get it."

"Never throw away dignity. If one must poke a flower in order to eat, then do it with dignity." So saying, Ambra drew herself up with as much fake dignity as she could muster, picked up the stick, and poked the flower again.
Quickly losing it, she giggled and dropped the stick. "Honestly, though, if you have to do it to survive, I don't see why you have to throw your self-worth away. Then again, taking yourself too seriously is just as bad."
Shaking herself out of her philisophic bent, she grinned at Unai. "How about you show me something a little easier to get? I wouldn't mind lunch if you don't mind."

Unai shook his head. "You don't throw away your self-worth. I mean you just don't concern yourselves with appearances. Maybe poking flowers or scrounging for an insect isn't as impressive as taking down an antelope, but when you gotta survive it doesn't matter how impressive something looks. Just being alive should be enough." He hoped that had made some kind of sense, though Unai wasn't sure if he'd just confused the issue more.
He laughed, a short, "Hah," in a burst of exhaled hair. "Something easy to hunt, yea. Well we'd have to take a walk. Nothing lives in the desert but bugs, lizards, and snakes. Everything else goes to the green stuff and water, and usually hangs around rock formations where there's shade." He raised an eyebrow. "Up for it?"

"I completely agree with you, Unai. I never concern myself about appearances. I like what I like and I do what I do completely unapologetically. If anyone doesn't like it, I simply smile and ignore them." Ambra replied. "And I make sure to do it all the time, not just for survival I find I like myself better that way. Then again, I don't take myself too seriously. If I do something silly, I'll laugh."
Ambra smiled at Unai through her sunglasses. "Up for a walk? Always. Especially with such enjoyable company."
