There wasn't much left to do except let the old man and his kid leave, so Maira stood herself, shaking her head when asked about the payment.

"No payment needed. When it comes to those feather folk, we don't charge, since we find the knowledge that people would feel safe enough to bring them here payment enough. Learning more about these children is all we could ask for." She gave Adel a smile, patting the top of his head, "If you ever feel ill, go ahead and stop by anytime. We'll never charge, okay?"

Leaving the room, she turned her gaze to Iri, who had taken a seat beside her desk, his head resting on it, and fiddling with a feather he had found on the ground.. He seemed upset, just a little bit.

"What's wrong Iri..?" She asked him, petting his head as will, playing with the little ribbon that kept his hair back.

"The first boy I met like me and his dad's a douchebag.." He muttered, hiding his eyes in his arms. He was glad that the old man was still out of earshot.. It was WAY too late for someone to cause a fight in the doctor's office. His mom and dad were asleep upstairs too, so he had to be atleast a little responsible..

"Shuush... Don't speak like that right now.." Maira murmured back, giving the pair that were leaving a bit of a smile.

Beald gave Maira a somewhat suspicious look when she told him that he didn't owe them anything, that they wouldn't charge a feather folk for coming here. He blinked a couple times, wrapping his mind around the idea, then walked as then woman gave Adelbert a pat on the head before heading out of the room. He watched her for, stood there a moment, then reached into his cloak to pull out what he thought was a fair amount of coin to leave on the counter for them to find later. He didn't like the idea of taking anything, medicine and a Doctor's time, for free and didn't want to owe these people anything or have them think to come to bother him for a favor later because they had done something for him without charging.

He checked on his son once more, making sure that he was sleeping soundly, before he headed out. He paused for only a moment to look at the one sitting behind the desk, then headed out without a word. He didn't care for that child at the moment and the woman was a little irksome as well for mentioning the idea of Iri having a crush on Adelbert. It wasn't something that sat well with the man nor was it something that ever would. If he were lucky this would be the last thing he had to deal with them for a time he thought to himself as he made his way home, his steps quite fast as he didn't want to keep Adelbert out in the cold, damp air any longer then he had to given that he was already sick enough as it was.

As the other's exited the small clinic, Maira set out to smoothing out the sulking child's hair. Her eyes skimmed the desk, then let out a bit of a scoff.

"Some people just don't know how to take a good deed.." She muttered, giving the child a kiss on the top of his head. His only response was a muffled, disappointed mutter, shrugging her off. It broke Maira's heart to see that he was so upset. A small idea came to her mind, and she grinned from ear to ear.

"Don't worry, sweetie, you'll see him again soon, I just know it. "

~~~~
"Why the heck...?" Just as Maira said, Iri was sent out towards the graveyard once again, but this time, it was early in the day, and it was his actual destination. He didn't want to go, he felt like an idiot, going somewhere he wasn't wanted... But it was his duty!!
Well... No, it was more of an assignment... All set up by that stupid Busty nurse he called aunty... She made up some thing about going to check up on their little 'patient', and because he was one just like him, and new his own body best, supposedly, she sent him... At this point he was at the gates, looking around.. Maybe that boy wasn't even here...
The rains had passed, the sun was up, and it was nice and warm out today which allowed for Adelbert to finally be allowed to go outside again. He was feeling much better, was no longer sneezing, and his his feathers stopped falling out leading him to believe that his Papa had been right about him molting. He looked over at the door to the cabin they lived in, giving a bit of a smile, glad that the man was sleeping better now. He'd missed a bit of sleep when it came to tending to him but it was better now.
Giving a smile the boy turned away from there, adjusting the headband around his head, then whistled to himself as he took a pile of flowers, daisies, that his Papa had gotten for him to work with. He went to settle in front of some of the old, unmarked graves, and once comfortable he set to work weaving the daisies into a flower crown. It was a fun task, a simple one, and it was his way of bring affection to those who seemed to have been forgotten by others, "Good morning." He said as he looked at the grave before him, "I am making flower wreaths today." He said, he was going to put them on the graves here but then he meant to make a special one for the White Lady.
He didn't notice yet that anyone other them himself and a few mourners were around, to lost in the task at hand to look up and around. If anyone did come to the cabin it would be for his Papa, not for him, though he was cautious when people got to close to him given that Papa had warned him there were dangerous men in the world that didn't like him. As such he had to be careful, for now though things were peaceful.
Though it WAS daylight, and the gates were open... Iri couldn't help but make an entrance when going to the graveyard, and just to piss that cranky old man off, he hopped on top of the graveyard wall again, and walked along top it, looking for that boy he had helped again... His name was Adelbert.. Right? It was a name he had never heard before, and the way it rolled off his lips was strange.. But it was a nice name. And besides, his own name was because his dad didn't know what to name him, so his other dad created a variation of the first dad's name, changing the U to another I.
Anyway, after a while of following the wall of the grave yard around, he spotted the boy with the silly looking head band and the coat, and grinned, adjusting the back on his back, and rushed over to him, jumpping rather flashily onto the ground. A large sense of paranoia hit him, but he shook it off, making sure not to step on any graves.. He Didn't need any of the dead coming back to eat his brains or worse because he disrespected them.
"Um... Hey there... I.. Came to check up on you.."
The sound of fluttering wings caught Adelbert's attention, "Huh? Bird?" It sounded like a rather large one, maybe a heron or a swan he thought to himself before his eyes landed on the boy from the clinic. Instantly he was up on his feet, clutching the flowers before him like a shield, looking a bit worried. Oh no, had he come here to argue with his Papa again? He sure hoped not... those two just didn't seem to get along at all and the last thing he wanted was to listen to the pair of them as they insulted each other again... he hoped that it was nothing like that, please he nothing like that.
"Ahh... to check on me...? Is there something wrong?" He asked as he stepped closer to the other young man, looking him over. Had there been something in his tests that he should worry about? He sure hoped not... not when he had been feeling rather good of late. How worrisome, should he wake up his Papa? Maybe not since Iri and Beald didn't get along... best that he wait and listen to the news himself, then he could go and talk to his Papa about it himself. His wings twitched a little in his coat but he tried to settle them down, not wanting to rub them against the coat he wore to much to make them all messy or make some of the feathers fall out once more.
"No, it's nothing that bad! After the test results came back, you were just fine, besides what we had already told you." Was he really that scary? He got a little closer to the oddly panicking boy.
"As a doctor, it's my job to make sure that everything is okay after you take your medicine. Normally, we would simply send a messenger bird." He gave a giggle at that. Hehe.. Birds. "But since you were an extra special patient, they sent me instead~ I'll need to see your wings.. But I understand that's uncomfortable for you to do, so.. Um.. Maybe we don't need to. But.. Uh.. "
A small blush came across his cheeks as he pulled out a cutely wrapped package as well. What the heck was wrong with him?! He NEVER acted so pathetic before! It was ridiculous to even think about how he was acting! and yet.. Maybe it was because this boy was the first one like him he's ever met. Yea, that was it. It was just something that couldn't be avoided, a feeling of kinship with the boy before him.
"I also thought we could share a snack together. Maira helped me bake some treats for us... As an apology as for our first meeting."
Nothing bad? That he was just fine other then what they had told him before... that was a relief he thought to himself, lifting one had up to his chest he gave a sighing sound of relief, "That is good... was worried." He murmured, looking away for a moment then then back again, eyes going wide, and instantly he was looking around in a slightly panicked stayed when Iri mentioned out loud and where there could be others around that he had wings and that he had to see them... he gave a rapid shake of his head, looking at him, then away, "We don't... don't talk about. Not out loud. Not outside." He told Iri in a rush!
He supposed that he could understand that the boy, as a Doctor's assistant, wanted to help but he didn't think that announcing such things would help, "Please... my Papa wants it to stay a secret, so do I." He didn't want to be in any danger which meant not letting anyone know about such things! He blinked a couple times when the package was held out to him and he seemed to relax a bit and he reached out to take it.
"Umm... what is it?" He asked, looking curious, peeking into it in. He lifted his head up and looked a little confused. Apologize? Well... his Papa didn't seem to be terribly impressed with the place, did they? He gave a shake of his head, "I know... I know that Papa can be tough at time." He said quietly before looking around, "If... if its important to look at my... back... well, I can show you, but not here, not outside." He whispered, not wanting to even say the word out loud that he actually meant.
"Not talk about it. Pfft.... Um.. I mean, Okay.. I understand. Oh! The treats are cookies~ " Yet, it was plain enough that he didn't get it. Why hide something that was precious.. If you had something you adored, why hide it? He gave his own wings a gentle flutter, before pulling them back against him as if he were comforting them.
"Where could we go then? I don't think it would be a good idea to go to your house... I mean.. after all, Your grandpa doesn't like me, and frankly.. He insulted my own fathers, so I don't like him." Perhaps he didn't need to say that.. It WAS a bit rude, but who cares? His dad was a douchebag!!
PostPosted: Sun Jun 05, 2011 8:46 pm
Cookies, that sounded nice. He didn't often get a lot of sweets and treats other then the jars of honey that his Papa had a lot of. That stuff was really good, especially when eaten with bread he thought to himself. He gave a little smile... until he looked over at Iri who was showing off, flapping his wings, something that he envied as well as feared, the way he was fluttering about it would surely draw attention he thought to himself. A moment later though he closed his wings and he was able to relax a bit, glad that he had stopped. Maybe nobody would notice if he didn't draw to much attention to the fact that he had such things...
He gave a little nod, "I have an idea of where we could..." He trailed off for a moment, hands tightening on the container in his hand, "He isn't my Grandpa, hes my Papa, and hes a good man." He murmured quietly, then motioned toward a deeper area of the graveyard, "There is a place that we can go if you really need to look at by back." Best to get this done since he knew that Iri probably wanted to go home. He didn't seem to like this place and really didn't like his Papa which wasn't nice, he was a good man that took good care of him and this place!
Shaking his head he forced himself to calm down, no reason to start a tussle after all. In a place like this it would be quite rude indeed to those who were resting as well as those that were mourning.
"Alright then. Lead me there." Iri wasn't going to press the whole thing with the boys 'dad'. He knew when a man was mean, and that man was just that. a mean old coot. But.. For now, he will stay quiet. There was no point, not if he wanted to become friends with him. He swore though... Too much of mentioning him might lead to more than just a little trouble.
"Now let's hurry.. This place is so gloomy.. I miss the brightness of the rest of the city already.."
PostPosted: Mon Jun 06, 2011 4:41 am
Adel starred at him for a moment then nodded when he was told to lead the way. He turned and started further into the place, toward where the richer people buried their dead. In that place there were mausoleums, small building there the dead were laid to rest, they could go inside of one of those and Iri could check his wings. He hoped that it would still be quick though, not wanting to show himself off for any longer then was completely necessary to making sure that they looked all better in the eyes of the Doctor's helper.
He gave a slight twitch once more as he was told to hurry, that the other boy found this place gloomy, that he missed the brightness of where he came from. It was a mystery to Adelbert why the boy was here... he just... didn't like this place, didn't like his Papa, he said that Adel was fine, was it just his wings? That was the only reason he came to look at his wings and drop off cookies...? It was a bit sad to think that he'd come to a place he disliked for such a reason, perhaps the ones that he helped out at the clinic made him do it? He gave a little sighing sound, "We will hurry, get you heading home quickly." He said in a quiet voice, not one for often raising it since where he lived was peaceful, yes peaceful and not gloomy, so he had no reason to shout. Shouting was Papa's thing when the thieves and vandals showed up, Adel's task was to stay out of the way and hold the lantern when such a thing went down.
"Not far now." He murmured, then paused in front of one of the large stone buildings with the angels on either side of the door, seeming to be safeguarding the place, "In here."
Where the heck were they going?! Iri looked around a bit worriedly as the boy lead him further into the graveyard. The further he was led in, the more his wings twitched, as if they were saying that they wanted to GTFO! But... Wait a minute.. Did he REALLY even want to do this?! Sure, he said it was for the sake of making sure the other boy was alright.. But then again... The terror that he was feeling.. It was like no other he had ever felt!
"W-were are we.... OH GOD NO! NO no no no no!!! I am NOT going in there!" He began to freak out, as they stood outside of the mausoleum. "They have DEAD PEOPLE ABOVE GROUND IN THERE?!!" He shouted, moving to cling to the other boy's arm.
"Isn't there somewhere else we can go.. Anywhere else?! Heck, I'd even put up with your father, just please please please don't make me go in there.. Please?!" His voice cracked, and tears were brimming in the edges of his eyes. He was beyond terrified now, near hysterical.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 06, 2011 3:04 pm
Adelbert turned to look over at Iri, giving him a rather strange look when he suddenly started to panic when he realized where they were going, though the reasoning behind his fears made Adel stare at him odd, "Yes, in there, and yes they are above ground but its not like they just toss them in there." He murmured, wondering what this boy thought that they did here, "Each person is laid to rest in a manner that allows them to be safe, they are each in a protective concrete coffin of sorts." He'd seen them before, knew that within each coffin inside the mausoleum was someone, and while yes they were dead, he didn't fear them.
"Let's go, I want to get this done with. And no, we are not going back to where Papa is. If he wakes up and your around he won't be happy." The last thing that he wanted was to have to deal with Papa when he was woke up and put into a bad mood instantly... he'd rather he woke up and was put into a good mood or at least as good as was normal for the man, "You really shouldn't act like that, like they are going to hurt you, that's silly..."
Iri glared at the boy he was cling to, shaking his head. How DARE he say what he feared was silly?! So what if they were in concrete coffins!? If people on the outside could move them away relativity easily, then people on the INSIDE could move it too!
"Look, Every one has something they fear, right? You and your dad, grandpa, whatever are afraid of people finding out about your wings, right? Well, dang it, I'm afraid of being surrounded by dead people!" He gave another shudder, than lowered his voice, trying to be serious now. "Do you know how it feels to watch someone die? It's ONE thing to bury them once they are deceased.. But that feeling of helpfulness... Of knowing that you couldn't save someone haunts you forever.. What I fear is thinking that someone I couldn't save.. Someone who my family couldn't save resides here, and they hate us and they wanna come back to kill us!"
Iri gave Adel a pitiful look, squeezing his arm. "Do you know how hard it was to just come here...? I was worried about you! so I put my own fears aside to come see YOU, not to be taken to someone elses grave!!"
