Yori was confused. "K...K...Kalona?" Was this yet another type of them? He was so lost within this world. He let out a deep sigh. He had so much to learn. Why didn't anybody ever know about all this? None of this had ever been mentioned before to him. Like it mattered nobody cared about him so why would they waste the time on him. "I...I....I've not been accepted." He mumbled a bit. "L...L...Lots of hurt." Even after all these years he could still feel the stinging of the stones.
"N...N...Nola f...f...friend? L..L...Like Apple Blossom?" Another friend would do him good. He liked the little usdia whom he had befriended. She was nice. He was becoming more relaxed around the mare letting her pull where she needed to. "Thank you." He softly whispered as she tugged at his mane.

Nola leaned back, blinking at him in confusion. "You've never heard of a kalona? They're usually pretty mean. They look like us, but have these big, giant, lizard-like wings, or really nasty feathered ones. They've got horns and big teeth and...they're just mean. Don't worry though, if we run into any, I can take them. Done it before."
She stopped fixing his hair as he mentioned bits of his past. Her heart swelling and her tongue catching in her throat. He had been through so much. Nola has always had a loving family, with a good, strong father figure and a kind mother. She had never been ridiculed for who she was. If anything, her father always made sure to go out of his way to glorify her and make her feel better than what felt possible. She sighed, wanting to give him a comforting nudge, but thought it too soon for that. "I'm so sorry..." she said softly.
"Apple Blossom?" Nola knew the name. "My friend Cider, that's her mother." It took the mare a minute to realize what he had said, but when it finally registered, she smiled warmly at the kirin.
"Friends. Told you, you're stuck with me," she teased, playfully nudging his shoulder with her nose. She had gone back to cleaning his hair when she heard his soft whisper, her heart instantly pounding harder. She felt like he could hear it too.
She stood up, clearing her throat and blushing like mad. "Uh, well...there ya go. Good as new. W-w-want to take a walk with me?" She suddenly felt out of breath and at a loss for words. Nola didn't become tongue tied. She was smart, charismatic, and witty. This didn't happen.
'What's wrong with me?' she thought.

Yori suddenly looked horrified. "I...I..I don't wanna be around mean things!" He lowered his ears looking a bit ashamed of not knowing what a kalona was. He had been in an isolated herd until he was old enough to leave. He had isolated himself ever since. Only in the last few months had he allowed the two legger to come to him. And at her urgings and pushings he started exploring his new home. "I...I'm still learning. I meed an usdia and a wind and now you. Apple Blossom had to tell me what a fish was!"
He looked away from the mare feeling more foolish then ever. He wasn't as stupid as he seemed. He was rather intelligent, he had to be otherwise he would not have made it on his own. Now he was wishing that maybe he grew up within this world then where he had grown up. He had wandered long and far keeping away from others. "I...I...I never had anybody to teach me. I still have many things to learn."
He slowly got up at the mention of a walk. "I...I...I'll go on a walk with you. Y...Y...You're nice. Not mean." He looked over at her giving her a smile. She wasn't mean. She was nice. He liked nice. He liked her. He liked anybody willing to be a friend. And liked it even more if they were willing to help him.

Nola laughed at his response about the kalonas. She rolled her eyes playfully. "Don't worry. I'll be your princess in shining armor." She meant for the sentence to be funny, but it came out sounding more suggestive than that, which left her regretting the comment instantly.
"Walk! Yes!" she said loudly. "Let's get going!" Her heart spend up as she walked next to him, her gaze catching his face every so often, but she always turned away. She suddenly felt like something was wrong with her. She had become so attached so soon. It was almost unhealthy.
"Well then that's settled. I'll be your teacher. I know everything!" she announced. Okay so she didn't know everything, but her pride was too big and she honestly felt there was little she didn't know anyway.
"So, Yori," Nola said after they had been walking in the forest for a few minutes. "Tell me something about yourself. Something that you really enjoy doing."

Yori thought a moment as he trotted beside her. "Carrots, flowers and purple!" He smiled at her. She had purple on her even more reason to be friends with her. "I have Snuggie! It is purple. I like it very much. Helps me sleep at night." He swished his tail back and forth. "Two legger give it to me so I wouldn't be lonely at night." He was warming up to the mare losing his stutter all together. "Two legger is nice she give me carrots!"
He looked at her then smiled. "What do you like?" He liked to look at her she was pleasing to his eye. She was like the pretty arches he would see in the sky after the rain. He wondered what they were. "Nola, what are those things in the sky after the rain? The things that look like you? You know what I am talking about?" He really did like the arches they always gave him a smile on his face. His smile became wider while looking at her. She was great he didn't have to wait for the rain to see the pretty colors any more.
He tripped over a rock in the path falling to his knees. He suddenly had an embarrassed look in his face. He was to busy looking at Nola to pay attention to what lay in front of him. He hurriedly got back to his feet feeling a blush creeping across his face. "Opps." He said a bit sheepishly.

Nola giggled softly as he explained what he liked. He had this childish cadence to his words, everything was straight and to the point. She found it calming. "Two legger? I've never met one of those." She had seen the humans before, but she had never approached them. Unicorns had a thing about being secretive, and she stuck to that when it came to humans. She pondered on what a snuggie was, but decided it best not to ask now. She'd find out eventually anyway.
"What do I like? I like going on adventures, seeing breathtaking sights, running in open fields and hanging out with other Soq." She felt her interests seemed to be a bit more daring than his, but she figured he just hadn't been out much.
Nola caught him looking at her, she was half tempted to tell him about the oncoming rock that was in his path, but decided he would notice eventually. "They're called Rainbows. It's said if you find the end of a rainbow, you find a little Leprechaun with a pot of gold!" She laughed at the myth, but it didn't stop her from wanting to try one day. She smiled shyly at him, still knowing he was about to trip over the rock.
Once he fell, she burst out in a fit of giggles, looking down at him warmly. "I guess I really should have warned you...I'm sorry." She kicked the rock out of the path and turned to Yori. "Think you can keep going?" she teased before breaking out into a run, laughing softly as the wind played with her hair. "Catch me if you can!"

Yori bolted after her. "Hey! Where you going?" He maybe a large stallion but he had no problems keeping up with her. He loved to run and roam around. He had been doing it since he was old enough to leave the herd. "I like to go exploring too!" He called out after her. He soon caught up with her. "Hello!" He gave her a big smile. "So where are we going?" Not that it mattered he would follow his new friend anywhere. "So shall we go find a rainbow and see if we can find your leprechaun and pot of gold?" He thought a moment. "What is a pot of gold? Is it something you can eat?"

Nola was surprised that he had caught up so fast. Either she was getting slow, or he was just that good. She giggled as he flashed a charming grin at her.
She slowed down to a trot, looking about the woods. The sun was high in the sky and the clouds were light, fluffy and ever-changing into beautiful pictures right before her eyes. "Hm, I don't think we'll find a rainbow here. It needs to rain. Or maybe..." She soon had an idea and a sly grin came to her face.
"Can you climb into the mountains? That's where I'm really from. There's always a rainbow up there." She faced the mountains that were peaking out over the tall trees of the forest. "You can't eat gold, but we can find something to eat before we head up. I know there's an apple tree outside of the woods here."

Yori thought a moment. "Do you want to go home?" He didn't really care he had been many places. "I've traveled in the mountains before. I've been many different places in my travels." He starred down at the ground. "I've never had a home until the two legger brought me here with her." He lifted up his head to stare straight in front of him. "Nobody ever wanted me. Not even the mare who found me. So I never had a home." He softly whispered as sadness filled his eyes.

Nola could feel hear heartstrings pulling as they struggled to cope with the look of utter depression on Yori's face. She swallowed hard, trying to force a lump that had lodged into her throat down before attempting to speak again. "You will always have a home with me," she stated firmly. Her gaze was locked on his. She was dead serious. "No matter what."
She felt the tension raise a bit as she realized how serious she had gotten, so she relaxed her muscles and offered a smile. "Apples? We'll be passing through my home, but not saying. We should get some blankets from my home just in case it gets cold up there, or we need to spend the night up higher in the mountains."
She got up the courage to go over to Yori and nuzzle him lightly. "Cheer up. Someone cares about you now." She swished her tail from side to side as she walked away from him, trying to just keep his eyes focused on her.
"Come on, I want to make it to the top before the sun starts setting. We'll have to wait till tomorrow if we don't get there in time."

Yori starred blankly at her. Home? Someone to care? Thoughts raced through his head. "Nobody to call me nasty names? Or kick rocks at me?" If she looked closer at him she would see years old scars through out his hide. The pain from the words and stones still cut deeply even years after it all had happened. This was his reason for forced solitude it was easier then having others hurt him. "I...I...I don't want to go to your home." Fear of others was showing in his eyes. "C...C...Can I just wait for you somewhere? I want to go to the mountains with you."

Nola's eyes softened as she saw the fear and worry in his own eyes. She sighed, understanding. "Okay, you can wait at the first plateau. I'll just be a minute then." Nola had trotted off into the mountains, in search of her home. She walked up the steep hills into the mountains, making sure Yori was right behind her. "Stay here then. I'll be back soon."
Nola trotted to her family, snatching a few blankets and a satchel. She didn't let anyone question her as she grabbed a large helping of apples and stuffed them into the satchel. After swinging the bag over her neck, she trotted out of her family's home and met back up with Yori. "Ya know, they don't bite. They raised me...so logically, you'd see that as a good thing..." She playfully nudged him as she went to climb up higher into the mountains.
"So let's go chase that rainbow."

Yori kept up with her stopping when she told him to wait. He looked around enjoying the view. He put his attention back on her when she returned. "I...I don't know what a family is like." He looked her in the eyes. "The mare that found me she didn't really have time for me. So pretty much I was fed by her. She had her own foal to deal with." He looks away. "All the other foals laughed at me said that my mother abandoned me because I was a freak. That....that nobody in their right mind would keep such a mutated thing and she left me to die. I know nothing of my real mother. The mare that found me said she found me huddled under a bush and it looked like there was a battle there. She believes my real mother either died or abandoned me." He lets out a sigh. "They are the reason I ran away from you. I was scared of hurtful things being said again. And was scared you might try to hurt me with your horn."
He looks up giving her a weak smile. "Lets go find this rainbow. I don't want to think about the bad things. Just want to think about good things." He followed her up into the mountains.

Nola could feel her heart shattering as she watched Yori's eyes reflect upon his past. She nudged a rock lightly with her hoof as she struggled to find any words with optimism. "I'm so sorry..." She hated what she had said, but she didn't exactly know what else to say. She had a good family who accepted her and loved her dearly. She never knew the feeling of loss. "Well...not all families are like the one you had. My family would love you, just for being you."
She nuzzled his neck, offering it as a sign of comfort, but her own feelings for him flustered up to the brim, leaving her face lightly pink, so she quickly turned away and began going up the mountains. "Come on then, we gotta long ways to go."

Yori got a look of bewilderment on his face as she quickly turned away. "Nola, I'm sorry." He hung his head down as he slowly walked behind her. I didn't mean to make her angry with me. He thought to himself. He continued to follow her his head hung down his eyes only on her feet. Would any herd or family accept me? Or am I doomed to just wander? Are there others like me? He lost himself in his thoughts.
His ears perked up hearing a soft rumbling noise. He looked up seeing a rather large boulder rolling down the mountain right for where Nola currently was. He suddenly slammed into the back of her shoving her forward. He wasn't all that gentle but for this he would beg for forgiveness later. He let out a soft cry as the boulder came to rest. He backed up against the boulder tears welling up in his eyes. He tried to push it backwards off his tail. "H...H...Help?" He softly pleaded.
