She gave a mall shrug. " She comes sometimes.. Though Not seen her in days so.. Thought I might catch her here at least. It's where we met so it's common ground for us." She chuckled some."It was more a hope of running into her so we could catch up. "

Callan looked around a moment, taking in the surroundings and releasing a slight sigh. He turned his head back in the direction of his homestead, so she had come but she had not stopped to visit. He couldn’t help but to feel partially responsible for this debacle. They had often acted stiff around Amelia for they hadn’t ever encountered anything like her before and they simply didn’t know how to react. Clearing his throat he returned his attention back to Idonea. “Has she mentioned her mother?” He asked gently. He had been wondering how his granddaughter was doing, when she had gone she had seemed like such a mess. His heart dropped beneath that heavy armor at the memory of Lumriel’s face on the day she decided to go forth and find Amelia and Anaon’s father.

She pondered a moment and thought back. Had Amelia ever mentioned her mother before? She didn't remember her ever doing so.. but then.. how often had she forgotten something important. She wasn't a spacy mare.. but she did some times have her moments. "I don't remember her saying anything... but it's possible.. much has happened since we last spoke so... she could have said something about her mother.." She frowned some hoping it wasn't something to be misleading that she said. The last thing she'd want was to stir up some family feud over something she'd just forgotten.

Callan stood in deep contemplation a moment, his brows furrowing and his mouth becoming a taught line. He would need to speak to Amelia about certain things he should have said long ago, now he knew she came here at times so he would be able to find her. Allowing a sigh to escape his diaphragm he perked up and smiled gently at Idonea. “Well, I am glad she has a friend like you to look after her.” He bowed his head in thanks and looked once more to the tall mare. “What of you? How fairs your family?” Rather than continuously harping in the subject of his great granddaughter Callan thought it would be nice to get to know the mare who had become such a good friend of hers.

She gave a small shrug and a giggle. Her father was off looking for his best friend and her mother.. she hadn't seen her mother since she'd grown into adulthood. The day she and her sister had left for parts unknown to her. "They're well.. I suppose.." She wasn't sure just how to answer it.. But she was willing to bet that her family was well at least.

Callan had been away from his children long enough to discern the look she had upon her face. She hadn’t seen her parents for a while though she didn’t seem too upset about it. It was more than likely she had grown up and flown the nest just like his children and children’s children had. Though he was uncertain of the exact circumstances so he thought it prudent not to speak out of turn. “Where did you learn to eat fish? From your da?” It was rather archaic but he still figured the father taught everything about survival to the children while the mother taught them discipline and manners. He just couldn’t get over the fact that she was a fish eating horse, he hadn’t ever encountered on like her before.

She shook her head sending her mane to fluff up around her with it's tangled feathers. "Loff." Well.. she was half right.. Karloff and Sippy had shown her that fish were a food source and though at the time the thought had disgusted her.. her curiosity eventually won out.

One red brow rose in a question at her short response, she obviously knew what she was speaking about but he hadn’t ever heard of a ‘Loff’ before. “A what?” He asked politely. He wasn’t sure whether it was a name or type of animal but he would find out. After a moment the sound of the stream running lackadaisically caught his attention and he began wondering what it must be like to be unable to hear such a thing. Had she always been deaf or was it something recent? Rather than prying into the business of a stranger he held his tongue and awaited a response.

"Loff's a friend..." She smiled as she looked around to the stream. She gave a small frown as she watched the water.. it's noise was but a fading memory now.. Here'd been where she had met her greatest friend.. and here it was that she'd lost her hearing that same night...

Callan grinned in understanding, glad she had been nice enough to clarify what she had meant to an older stallion who didn’t know much beyond his own family. “Well, I suppose it makes sense that a friend would teach you to eat that. I wouldn’t trust anyone else.” He watched as she observed the stream and his curiosity flared up once more. Did she know the sound or was she guessing?

"Is it's babble happy today?" She looked at him and tilted her head to the side. It'd been so long since she'd actually heard things that at times... she missed it.. How she had taken it for granted back when she could still hear. But life always has it's own agenda for every individual.

He flashed her a grandfatherly smile and pricked his ears to listen to the running water a moment before responding to her. Closing his eyes he took in each splish and splash, each bubble popping and each movement of the stream. “It seems to be.” His former love Anela used to listen to the river with him, telling him what parts he should listen to in order to tell the mood of the water. Bella had done relatively the same thing, all women he cared about. Even know he was beginning to grow a familial fondness to Idonea.

She smiled. The memory still lingered of the happy gurgles it had once made ringing in her ears. "It is good.. been long time since heard it last." She smiled, settling her self down to relax. "You must wonder how it went..." She smiled more pleasantly feeling at ease with the stallion like she would had he been Amelia instead. "Amelia found me... bugs... i woke.. no sound.." She frowned gently as she watched the stallion's face.

Callan looked to the mare and listened to her tale, taking what he could from the snippets of information he was given. Amelia had found her? Another pang reverberated in his chest because his granddaughter hadn’t felt comfortable enough with him to tell the story of how she made a friend. The thought was filed away for later as he nodded in understanding. He had heard stories of bugs making people go deaf but he had never believed in them until now. “I am sorry.” He stated. “I am glad you found Amelia and she found you though.” He finished with a smile. “I once worked with a stallion that was deaf, many years ago. He was blind too.” He was reminiscing again of his times as a soldier.

She smiled fondly as she read the stallion's lips. "It is well.. I'm glad I found Amelia too.. we came up with signs to speak with my father.. er... so I could speak to him... But once hearing.. it's well I remember sounds some times... so.. no need to be sad k?" She offered a lopsided grin and wiggled her ears.
