Orion could feel Merope stiffen as he hugged him and for a moment he was worried. Did he do the wrong thing and ******** up? s**t, should he let go? He decided not to though, he'd hold on as long as the bluenette would let him. It was only a hug, that was innocent enough, right?
When he felt arms around him he couldn't help but smile. He didn't completely ******** up, Merope was returning the hug. That had to be a good sign, or at least he hoped so. "It does," Silver eyes closed as Orion spoke. "So does funny, and adventurous, and good looking." As he complimented Merope he was starting to realize that if he had been a girl he would have gone out with him in a heartbeat. It didn't seem fair, that Carter would be reborn as a boy instead.
Orion was silent then, content to just hold Merope against his chest. It wasn't much, but it was the best that he could do at the time.

As innocent as the hug was, Merope needed it. Such a simple action spoke volumes to him, soothing his frustrations over things he couldn't change. Orion wasn't making things easy on him, however. The blush intensified as he complimented him. There was still a small voice in Merope's head that would not shut up and leave him alone, no matter how desperately Merope tried to smother it.
He didn't want to hear it. The possibility of Orion remarking about Alorie's qualities were there, yes. What if he was only saying them because he was Alorie's reincarnation? Orion's chance to reclaim what he had before -- was it worth it? It felt to Merope that he was lying to him, acting like someone he wasn't. Or that Orion was placing expectations on him that Merope couldn't expect and live up to. He didn't know what Orion was looking for, or if he could be what he sought. Physical attraction? Qualities?
Merope didn't want to mess this chance up. Nor did he want Orion to expect things he couldn't deliver. It wasn't as if Merope was going to magically turn into a woman upon henshining up one day, either -- right? God that would suck.
Merope pulled away from Damian, ducking his face so the taller boy wouldn't see his face. "I should probably try to clean the mess I just made up," he began, moving past him. Nevermind the various other bottles that had broken long before they arrived, their shards making the ground crunch beneath their booted feet.
He stopped at the other end of the bar. "By the way," he began, turning to glance over his shoulder. "Thank you. I... I needed that." He ducked his head again to hide his blush before rounding the corner, disappearing into what would have been the staff-only area and kitchen of the bar-tavern.

When Merope pulled away Orion let him go, his arms falling to his sides. He tried to catch his eye, but it was impossible with the way the bluenette was looking away from him. He worried the corner of his bottom lip between his teeth, everything seemed to be awkward between them now. In a way it seemed inevitable, they had found out so much about each other in the span of a couple hours that things were bound to change. It didn't mean Orion had to like it though.
He nodded at his teammate's words, watching him move away. He didn't mention the fact that the bar was already a mess, he had a feeling the other man was just looking for an excuse to get away from him.
The redhead was leaning against against the bar with a sigh when Merope spoke again. He turned slightly, looking towards him. Orion could feel the corners of his lips tugging upwards, unable to stop his smile. "No problem," He watched him go and then shook his head slightly, at least he had done something right.
For a minute he stood, staring at a T+A that had been carved into the bar top. He ran his fingers along the gouges in the wood, tracing the heart that surrounded the initials. A shadow passed over his hand and he looked up surprised, he had forgotten Poseidon was there. The cat, well no longer just a cat, was sitting on the stool across from Orion. The senshi of meteors sighed, looking into Poseidon's face. "How did things get so messed up?"
The Mau looked thoughtful for a moment before he answered. "It's the way of the Space Cauldron, as much as it stands for Order it can also cause chaos." Looking at the super sailor Poseidon could tell that wasn't the answer he wanted. Sighing, he leaned forwards trying to go a simpler route. "What is it about the situation that you think is so 'messed up'?"
Orion sighed raking his fingers through his hair. "I don't know, everything, all of it. I mean my best friend, who likes me, turns out to be the reincarnation of the women I was in love with a thousand years ago, only instead of being reborn a girl, he's a guy. And he doesn't like me because of old feelings, he likes me because I'm me?" He sounded doubtful at that, and shook his head. "Which I don't understand, I haven't done anything to deserve him caring about me. I've been...well I've been pretty horrible lately, especially to him..." Orion trailed off, rubbing the carving with his fingertips again, trying to get his thoughts in order.
"I don't, didn't, believe in love, not really. My mom and dad, they loved each other," He laughed a little bitterly. "My dad was so in love with my mom, even when I was five I could tell. But then my mom just up and left, and I never could understand how she could do that to him." 'to me' were the words he couldn't say. "After she left my dad was a complete wreck, he almost lost his job, he never left the house. He was broken inside, my mom leaving it ruined him." He looked away from the initials carved into the bar as he thought about his dad. He didn't know why he was spilling all of this out to Po, but now that he started he couldn't stop.
"He was ruined, until he met someone who I guess fixed him, or made him think he was fixed. Though I don't know how, she's a complete b***h, not to mention she's cheating on him." He shook his head, he really did not like his step-mother. "My dad fell in love twice and the only place it's gotten him is left and cheated on, how can that be a good thing?" He had almost lost track of his point, getting so swallowed up in his past. A glance down at the T+A jogged his memory though.
"But then I went to Orion. I had visions and felt things..." He trailed off remembering just how strongly he'd been hit with the feelings of love and adoration coming off Thor and directed at Alorie. "If I could feel that way again, maybe it would be worth it? I had never thought Alorie would be a senshi though, let alone my best friend. It almost made me think I had another chance, y'kno? But..." Orion paused with a sigh, today was becoming a very sigh-y day. "I don't know. Carter says he's not her, and I know that, I do. It would just be easier if he was her, or if he was a she."
He was a quiet for a moment and Poseidon took that chance to ask one question. "Why?"
For a moment Orion didn't answer but then he threw up his hands, exasperated. "I don't know, it's just. I know how to act around girls, I know how to flirt with them, and I'm good at it. It's a natural talent I have, or whatever. But with Carter..." He trailed off, fingers raking through his hair again, the ends starting to stand up. "It's not so much that he's a guy, or maybe it is, I don't know. It's not like I'm homophobic or anything, I just..." He went silent and when he spoke next his words were hushed, "What if I do like him? What if I like him, and I mess things up? Or worse...what if I'm bad at it? I know I'm great in bed with girls, they've told me so. But what if I suck at being with him?" It was fair to say Orion was getting the cart in front of the horse, the two had barely hugged, and the redhead was still unsure of his feelings.
Poseidon was quiet for a moment, thinking. The questions his senshi brought up were difficult, especially for a man who spent most of his time as a cat, who really at the core of his being was a cat. When he did speak he sounded confident of his answer. "I think that if you do care about him, the way he seems to care about you then the rest of it will fall into place." He was about to say more, but his eyes caught a flash of gold and white in the doorway that Merope had previously exited. Feeling out his power signature confirmed what he saw, but instead of calling him out for eavesdropping he just reached over, gripping Orion's bicep. "Don't over analyze it," Another bit of vocabulary picked up from psychology textbooks. "Just go with your instincts, they haven't let you down before." If they had Orion probably wouldn't still be around. Poseidon stood up from the bar stool walking around until he could follow the way Merope had gone.
He was heading towards the stairs when he spotted the super sailor and he gave him a knowing look, but it wasn't disapproving. It was almost encouraging. Poseidon wanted his boys to be happy, and if it was with each other that was fine with him. And if it wasn't, well at least if they talked about it now they would be able to get past it sooner. The Mau continued up the stairs wanting to explore the rest of the tavern.

The kitchen was lit by dull lanterns, forcing Merope to stand and wait for his eyes to adjust in comparison to the brighter main room. He could make out a table, a counter and – why was that part of the room darker? He stared at it, then shook his head. It was far too dark to explore properly, and the flashlight was out in the main room. His cheeks still felt hot after making his retreat from Orion. Merope side-stepped, moving into the kitchen to lean against the doorframe. He needed to breathe. This was nearly too much.
"How did things get so messed up?"
Merope froze. He was wondering the exact same thing. He didn't wake up this morning on the Pleiades couch expecting to confess his feelings about Damian to Damian in a round about way. Nor was he expecting to be the reincarnation of Damian's previous love. It wasn't just a love, though. For Carter, it was bad enough to the point that it drove him to drink. It was tearing him up, knowing that he was both what Damian was looking for and what drove him to the point of getting smashed.
Merope closed his eyes and listened as Damian and Poseidon spoke, wincing. Was he supposed to like him because of his past? He didn't know about it. He had only just found out that he used to be a female, and to have been specifically the one he was in love with...
Why was he in love with him, anyway? Merope opened his eyes, running his fingertips over his medallion. There was no denial that Damian was an a** to him recently. His back still ached from being thrown around; he needed to get some ice on it whenever they went back home. It was hard to pin down the reason why, but he had to drop it now – Orion was still speaking.
Hearing about his past made Merope frown. That was what his family life was like? It was difficult for him to fathom. He had never been in that situation – his family life was one full of love, possibly to the point where it was overflowing. If they were still in Destiny City, it wouldn't surprise Carter if they insisted on having both of them come over on the weekends for a free dinner. Possibly free laundry too.
But... to not have that support? His grip tightened on his medallion. Poor Damian – he had it rough. No wonder he was torn up over Alorie with that history hanging over his head. He bit his lip as Orion pointed out how easier this would be if Merope had been reborn a female. It would be so much easier. Neither of them would have been torn up or second-guessing themselves over what was right and what was wrong. Merope did like Orion, but he was male and so was he, but at the same time did that make them was it even possible? He looked at both men and women equally in terms of being attractive, but...
Merope let out a sharp sigh of frustration. This was too much to think about, and apparently Orion agreed. How the hell were they supposed to act? What were they supposed to do, even if they were an item? Merope had yet to even go on a date. Orion only went out with girls before. Would it even work? He didn't know. Hearing that Orion was great in bed and was unsure about him confused him. They slept in the same bed all the time. What was wrong wi- oh. Ooooh. Merope's blush intensified as the puzzle pieces clicked together. He was already thinking about that?!
He continued to stand there, petrified as Poseidon passed him b- what was with that look? There was a grin to it, one that shook Merope free and allowed him to move again as the cat padded up the stairs.
As entertaining as standing next to the doorway was, Merope felt that he should move. He took a step forward, then turned and left the kitchen to go back out to the tavern. He considered standing against the doorway, dropping it in favor of perching on a seat in front of the bar. “So.” Merope began before falling silent as he struggled to find something, anything to say. “This sucks, doesn't it?” He leaned back, elbow propped against the bar as he held up his hand as he examined it. “Would've been nice if I was reborn what I was before, y'know? This... This really sucks. Talk about cruel irony of the universe, y'know?”

After Poseidon had left Orion leaned against the bar with a sigh. Trust his instincts. He wasn't sure how great of an idea that was. What if he went with instincts and messed up?
He didn't have too much time to think about messing up before Merope came back out. For a moment he froze, had he been listening? It wasn't like he could fault him for it, he had done the same thing that morning.
When he finally spoke Orion couldn't help but laugh a little. "Yeah, it kinda does." His hand rubbed over the initials carved into the bar again, the feel of the gouges in the wood was comforting to him somehow. "Hey, maybe it's all my fault. Maybe I was actually supposed to come back a girl but got messed up." There was a crooked smile on his lips as he tried to cheer up his teammate.
He fell silent again unsure of what to say next. Follow his instincts...he tried to figure out what his instincts were telling him. After a moment he reached out and took Merope's hand that was in the air, drawing it to him. He turned it, palm side up, his thumb running over the dark material of his glove. He stared at his hand, not having the courage to look into his eyes as he spoke. "I know this sucks, and I don't have any idea what I'm doing, but what I do know is that the thought of not being able to have a chance with you kills me inside..." He was rubbing circles into Merope's gloved palm as he spoke. "Maybe, maybe if we go really slow we can give it a try?" Silver eyes flicked up to his best friend's face and then away. Was he asking Carter out? The blush spreading across his cheeks seemed to indicate he was.

A smile twitched on his lips as he shook his head. “You? A girl? Nah. You know how odd that'd be? I can't picture you as a chick.” It would be too weird. Damian... Damianna? Dami? He didn't know. It was hard to picture his teammate as a chick instead of a dude.
When his hand was taken, Merope froze as it was pulled away towards Orion. What was he doing? His eyes darted between their clasped hands and Orion's face, the latter which was unreadable. Merope wanted to know what was going through his mind as he traced circles on his palm. His fingers twitched. It was odd, and yet... soothing.
Merope met Orion's gaze, watching him look away. He focused on their hands. Orion wanted to give it a shot. He wanted a chance, a chance that Merope was still questioning. Was it for him? Or was it for his memory of Alorie? He wasn't sure. He was scared.
He moved his hand.
Merope twisted his hand to one side, moving to clasp and hold Orion's hand. His other hand was brought up to hold his hand between his, squeezing it before looking up at him. “I... I'm willing to give it a shot. As long as we go slow, everything should be alright... right?”
Another blush lit up his face, and he turned to look away. “N-Not that it won't or anything. I mean I've honestly never been out on a date before so I really don't know what I'm doing and add in the fact that we're basically two dudes and none of us really have any experience with it and -” He broke off, looking away. “I... yeah. We definitely need to go slow. This is all new territory for me, can you tell?”

When Merope's hand moved Orion bit his lip, immediately worried. Was he pulling away? Had asking what he asked been the wrong then? Poseidon had said trust his instincts and so he had, that meant things were supposed to work out, right? There was a small, quiet, sigh of relief when the redhead realized his teammate was just moving to hold his hand and not pulling away. Feeling him squeeze his lips quirked up into a smile, and he glanced away from the bar and up at him. "Yeah, we'll just...go really slow, and it'll be okay." How slow was slow? Orion wasn't sure. All of his dealings with women had been pretty fast, with the exception of Selena and Devi. He wasn't sure how good he'd be at slow, but he was going to try. It helped that he had no idea what was the right thing to do this time around so everything was harder to rush.
Hearing that his best friend had never been on a date piqued his interest. He didn't know that Carter was completely inexperienced, he just thought that dating and girls was something he was embarrassed, or didn't want to talk about. But apparently, there was nothing to talk about. He couldn't help but laugh a bit, squeezing the bluenette's hand. "Yeah, I can tell. But, it's new for me too." He paused for a moment, moving his hand so their fingers interlaced. It was a simple gesture, one that Orion was pretty sure he couldn't mess up. "We'll figure it out together, yeah?"
Looking down at their hands he stared for a moment. It didn't feel familiar, but it didn't feel completely wrong either. Maybe this was how things were meant to happen, maybe he would've fallen for Carter even if they weren't senshi. He wasn't sure, and it wasn't something he spent too long ruminating on. The fact of the matter was that they were senshi, and any feelings he might have for Carter were tangled up in the ones he had felt for Alorie. It was something that was going to take a while for him to figure out.

It'll be okay. Merope breathed a sigh of relief. If Orion said everything was going to be okay, then it would be. He didn't know what to expect, or what was going to happen. Fast, slow -- he needed to rely on Damian to pace it. Neither of them knew what was right, or what was wrong. At this point, their relationship was in unknown territory.
Merope couldn't help but to grin and look down at the table, trying to hide his face. "Haha... Is it really that obvious?" He didn't make a move to pull his hand back from Orion's. It was... pleasant. In an odd way. He raised his gaze to meet Orion holding it before nodding. "Yeah. We'll be all right," he repeated, "Might take awhile, but I think we can get the hang of it."
He fell silent, his thumb rubbing the back of Orion's hand. "Wanna go see what Po's up to?" Merope asked after a long pause, glancing towards the kitchen. "I think I saw him disappear in there, up some stairs maybe...?"

Orion just grinned at Merope's words. Yeah, it was that obvious. He didn't think mentioning that would make the bluenette feel better though and so he didn't say it. He squeezed his teammate's hand instead. He didn't want to think about what would happen if things didn't work out, if a few months from now he realized that it all had been a mistake. He knew if that happened he wouldn't just lose Carter as...well whatever he was now, but he'd lose him as a best friend as well. The redhead hoped he knew what he was doing, if he screwed this up he was going to be kicking himself for the rest of his life.
Silver eyes flickered down to Merope rubbing his hand, and then back to his face. "Sure," After a moment he slid his hand out of the bluenette's a little reluctantly. He wasn't sure why he was letting go, maybe walking around holding hands seemed too intimate, or maybe he didn't want Po to see them like that.
Embarrassed that he was the one to pull away first he turned his back on Merope, looking towards the kitchen. "We should check on him." His right arm crossed over his body, gripping his bicep. After a pause he headed the way Poseidon had gone, going up the stairs.
He wasn't sure why it bothered him so much that he was the one that pulled away. It wasn't like it was a contest. Maybe it was because Orion was already uncertain of himself. Honestly, he was a little jealous of his best friend. At least Merope knew that he liked him, Orion on the other hand still wasn't completely sure. He thought he did, but he wasn't as sure as the bluenette seemed to be.
It was that thought that made him stop mid-way up the stairs and turn, heading back down them quickly. The redhead stopped in front of Merope searching his face. "Why do you like me?" Maybe if he knew why Carter liked him he'd be able to figure out if he liked Carter. It was backward thinking, but then Orion was in a situation he'd never been in before.

Their situation was a tricky one. As best friends, their new relationship could strengthen it just as much as it could weaken it, or at the very worst break it completely. He was oblivious to the possibilities that could happen, content to simply hold his hand while it lasted. Merope let his hands fall, pushing away from the bar and standing up from his chair.
Merope quickly retrieved the flashlight before following Orion, flicking it on and taking the stairs two at a time to catch up. Like the rest of the establishment, the stairs were made of wood, each step bearing a notable dip in the center to betray how worn and used they were. There were even decorations on the wall in the form of carvings, however the lanterns in the stairwell were far too dim to make them out properly.
Orion nearly collided with him on the way down. "Wh-what?" Merope stared at him, blushing as he looked away for an escape. There were none -- they had already passed the landing to the second floor. "W-what brought this up? I mean," He ran a gloved hand through his hair, hefting a sigh. "Look, you really wanna know? Fine," he looked away from him, taking a deep breath. "You're hot. Not just that, but you're great to hang around with. You make everything more enjoyable, y'know? There isn't anyone else I'd want to have watch my back or -- um. Wait. Th-that sounded way too wrong! Not like that!" Merope protested, shaking his head. "What I mean to say, is that... after I got to know you better, I realized I liked spending time with you. I mean, hell," he grinned up at him. "You're my best friend, right? I... look, as weird as it sounds, without you, well." He looked away, nervous. "Life would just be too damn boring. When my family moved away... I think I would have moved with them if you weren't around. You mean a lot to me."

He knew his question had to sound completely random, and in a way it was. But Orion needed to know. He needed something he could hold onto. The redhead was silent as Merope hemmed and hawed, but eventually his teammate did answer the question.
When the first thing the bluenette said was 'You're hot' Orion couldn't help but grin. Yeah, he was pretty hot and he knew it, but it was always nice when someone else appreciated the view. As Merope went on Orion tried to commit his words to memory so he could think over them, and remember them. If he could hold onto Carter's view of him maybe he'd feel less insecure about himself and about how he felt.
When he had finished Orion was still grinning, it was more of an answer than he had been expecting and it made him feel warm inside. Reaching out he snagged Merope in a loose headlock, pulling him against him while being careful not to send either of them falling down the stairs. "I'll watch your back any day," He laughed a little, unable to resist teasing him. Letting him go he reached out tousling in a joking manner, but his fingers paused as they ran through his blue locks. For a moment he just ran the strands through his fingers, playing with his hair. There was a curious look on his face when he did speak, fingers still running through his hair. "Hey, have you been using my conditioner? Your hair's really soft." He had soft hair himself because he bought good conditioner, he was self-indulgent when it came to looking good.

Orion was hot, both in and out of his uniform. Being able to call down meteors probably didn't help either. There was more to Orion that caught Merope's eye, however. There were the small things, from the way they looked out for each other to the larger things, the small gestures that initially didn't seem like much but spoke volumes. Randomly being picked up from Meadowview was nice. Coming home late after patrolling to find a note on the fridge door with a "reheat the leftovers with the red top" note attached to it was better. Finding out that the said leftover was an edible home cooked meal was best.
Hell, the way Orion was grinning down at him made Merope feel giddy to the point that he laughed upon being put into a headlock, protesting playfully as his hair was ruffled. "Hey! Cut that out!" He shook his head when he was released, looking up at Orion curiously as the other man left his hand there. His conditioner? Oh. s**t. "M-Maybe," Carter began, "I didn't think you'd notice, actually. I've been leeching off of your shampoo and conditioner for awhile 'cause I'm out. I keep forgetting to restock, okay?"
Well, that and Merope's usual shampoo was a combination of both shampoo and conditioner. It just felt so... wrong to Merope to not use some sort of conditioner and leave it in. "Hope you don't mind, and if you do then I can buy you another bottle?" He suggested, grinning before adding, "Or maybe we can find some of my leftover shampoo here. Since Alorie was a chick, that meant that her hair must've smelled nice and been soft, right?"

Listening to Merope laugh Orion couldn't help but grin. This was how it was supposed to be, laughing and good times. Not the awkward mess that things had been five minutes ago. The redhead tried his best to hold onto the carefree moment.
When the bluenette admitted to using his conditioner Orion just laughed. It was a very Carter thing to do. It wasn't such a big deal really, and he had had a feeling that his roommate had been sneaking some. He mysteriously seemed to go through it quicker than he had when he lived alone.
His hand fell away from his head and he smiled at Merope. "Nah, I don't mind. Keep on using it, I mean if you're gonna be my boyfriend then you've gotta look good." There, he said it, the b word. There was a flicker of worry that crossed over his face (how would Carter react to being called his boyfriend?), but he tried to ignore it, doing his best to hold on to the easy going air they just had. "Anyway, any shampoo we find here will probably be pretty nasty after so long." He laughed and it was still a little nervous.

Boyfriend. He was Orion's boyfriend. He just admitted it! Merope couldn't help but to grin and blush at the same time. "What, no more getting dirty?" He joked, "Good thing that my attack is going to make me smell more salty than anythiiiii-crap not like that! Sea water! You know! I -- you know what? Nevermind. Let's just... pretend that didn't happen, 'kay?" Merope laughed and carefully pushed past Orion, his face still burning.
"Anyway... Hey, you never know! The stuff downstairs smelled potent, so if that's still good... Who's to say that the rest of it won't be as bad, y'know? C'mon, let's go see what Po's up to."
Merope ascended the rest of the stairs, the end not a doorway but a hatch. The hatch cover was up -- probably left open by Poseidon. Merope looked around, startled. They were now on the roof of the building. He could see the starry sky above them, the stars vastly unfamiliar in comparison to the ones he could see on Earth. On either side of him were rows of little cabin-like rooms, looking oddly out of place. An addition? Most likely. There was another set of stairs off to either side of the largest cabin, and without a doubt Merope knew those were the captain's quarters.
He walked over to the door and stared, his fingertips slowly reach out to touch the skull and crossbones motif on the door. It bore an unmistakable resemblance to the same one he wore around his neck.

Orion had to keep his lips pressed tightly together so he didn't blurt out the first thing that came to mind in response to getting dirty. Saying that wouldn't be taking it slow, it would be kicking them into high speeds. And then Merope was talking about getting salty and the redhead couldn't help but laugh. "Whatever you say, man." He clapped the bluenette on the shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze as he passed by.
Following after him he found himself staring at Merope's butt and when he realized it he looked away, rubbing the back of his neck. His captain's a** just reminded him of things they wouldn't be doing for a while, things he still had doubts that he'd be good at. "Huh? Oh, yeah, maybe. But I don't think shampoo holds up like alcohol." He was trying to make coherent sentences so that his boyfriend (Orion still felt a little strange using that word, but to his surprise it wasn't bad-strange, but good-strange) didn't catch him staring.
Following him through the hatch he looked around distracted for a moment by all the stars he could see. More than he'd ever seen from Earth, and in a completely different position. Though, there was constellation he could spot anywhere, even if it looked bigger from Merope because they were closer. Staring at the constellation Orion, the senshi felt a tug. That was his home, even if it was filled with emotional visions.
Looking away from the constellation he turned back towards Merope, moving behind him. He looked at the door over his shoulder, taking in the motif. It looked familiar and it didn't take the redhead too long to place it. "Hey, that's like on your necklace." Thank you, Captain Obvious.
