Ren peered closer at Jove, lifting an amused brow. "Oho, what is that I see?" he teased, poking a finger into his little brother's cheek playfully. "Methinks the lad doth protest too much. You look like you don't want to take any pictures, or is it just because you're shy?"
It was probably the latter, if the scowl the boil gave him was any indication. Ren grinned, turning heel and following Jove towards the cafeteria, hands slipped into his pockets. He was curious to see what the boil would do if they took pictures. Would he smile? Frown? Keep that stubborn scowl on his face the entire time? His caretaker would probably know that scowl. Maybe it would amuse him; or would he rather see his charge smile? It was an interesting thought, but Ren had another question to ask, one that made him curious.
"Hey, Jove..." he said, tapping a finger to his chin thoughtfully as he regarded the boil. "Did you ever talk out loud when you were with your caretaker?"

Jove's scowl only got worse with the poking, as did his blush. He wanted pictures... but he didn't want to admit that the thought made him rather shy. Shy was for ghouls. Maybe he could take them, and not have to be in them as well. Then he could send his caretaker a picture of his new brother without having to face the awkwardness and insecurity of actually posing for a shot, and not have to be called adorable or whatnot if he accidentally smiled some.
As if wanting to banish those future smiles from his face in addition to his mind, he scowled more.
When Ren changed topics the pup's mood changed almost immediately. His ears perked up, and he watched his brother's chin-tapping with a great deal of curiosity. Then he nodded. Of course he talked when he was with his caretaker. It had been his voice that convinced the elderly gentleman that he was more than an ordinary stray foxfire, but it was just as infrequent at home as it was at school with Ren.

Ren had known quite well that taking pictures with Jove would take a bit of nudging. After all, while Jove was not exactly shy persay, he was as stubborn as all hell and would rather bury himself underneath his bed than admit that he wanted to take pictures. Ren grinned down at him, reaching out to rifle Jove's hair affectionately.
"Quit yer frownin' and growlin', little puppy," he said cheerfully. "We'll figure out a way to take some good pictures, don't worry. I'll make sure no one considers you cute, even though I do."
Teasingly poking a finger at Jove's blushing cheek, Ren dropped his hand when he saw the boil's ears perk upwards. He hadn't expected a nod in answer to his question - or maybe he had, but either way it still surprised him a little to know that Jove spoke around his caretaker. He had not heard Jove speak more than about four words, five at the most - not that it was a bad thing, persay; Ren could read Jove's expressions quite easily by now, but he often wondered what Jove would sound like if he actually said a whole sentence.
"That's very interesting..." he mused, mostly to himself, and tapped his chin more.
They had reached the cafeteria now, and Ren looked down at his little brother. "Whatcha want?"

Jove frowned, putting up with Ren's teasing and poking with an almost stoic expression on his pale face. Now that he was more or less used to the physical affection many of his friends seemed to smother him in, it was not entirely unpleasant. In fact, sometimes he sort of liked it, when he was afraid or unsure of himself.
But now was not the time to admit it, or even let on that he didn't mind quite so much. He watched as Ren did more chin-tapping, and tilted his head. Why would it be interesting, Jove spoke here too. All the time. Whenever he felt like it. Sometimes.
Finally reaching the cafeteria, Jove paused and peered in awkwardly. Then he toyed with his scarf instead of answering Ren's question, and then scratched his ear, stalling even more. He didn't really want anything, and had pretty much given up on eating since the island. After so much time had passed when food made him feel ill, he had simply stopped trying to eat, and now avoided ingesting anything at all.

He would have to figure out a way to change that stoic expression on his little brother's face. Ren wasn't sure whether or not it was just from him teasing him, or poking him, or ruffling his hair affectionately, but whatever it was, he'd have to make Jove smile. He'd managed to get one out of him once - and managed to even get a laugh out of the puppy, which had been both a total surprise and a great success for Ren - but he wanted for Jove to be genuinely happy, not forced into it.
He caught the look on Jove's face. "You don't speak nearly as much as you think you do, silly puppy," Ren said with a laugh, shaking his head. "But don't worry about it; that's who you, and I like who you are."
His little brother didn't look like he wanted food. Ren gave him a small smile. "It's fine, you don't need to eat," he said gently. "But I'm hungry, so I'm gonna get something, okay?"
A few moments later Ren had a tray with a sandwich. some chips, and a few other small snacks, as well as a soda. He picked a table at random and slid into one of the chairs, motioning for Jove to follow him.

Jove followed Ren as he grabbed a decent lunch, for the most part ignoring all the food himself. It made him anxious just thinking about it. He knew if he ate anything it would hurt, but he wasn't sure why, and even just thinking about it too much was starting to make his nonexistent stomach ache slightly.
The pup couldn't realize that it was his worries rather than the food itself that bothered him, so when Ren picked a spot at the table, Jove sat down opposite his brother and folded his arms on the table. With a huff he slumped to rest his chin on his arms.
He sort of missed soft drinks, the way they bubbled all the way down into his stomach... And chips, how crunchy they were...
