Sometime during the break the twins had managed to pick up a slight tan and had dyed their hair darker shades of their respective shirt colors, but aside from that they looked the same as ever. Despite the fact that the ship was not overly brightly lit, Toni, the twin in red, was wearing a pair of darkly reflective sunglasses and seemed to be able to see well enough. Well enough that she was pulling Torin through the crowd by her wrist, away from the emptying public shuttle, while Torin was trying to finish a page of her book on a data pad. Those who objected to Toni brute-forcing her way through the narrow gaps between people were treated to a tooth baring grin that invited challenge more than it showed humor.
After a few minutes, Torin looked up from her data pad, glanced around and brought Toni to a dead halt by simply planting her feet. The red-headed twin stopped the moment she felt resistance from Torin and glanced back then up in the direction that her twin nodded in. A slow grin spread across Toni's face as she dropped Torin's wrist and the two disappeared down a side corridor heading up to the second level.

"Miss Kerr and Miss Kerr," Andara turned toward the twins as they arrived, back to the railing, slightly glowing eyes alighting on them. "I hope your break was enjoyable?"
Andara, not being human, had a tendancy to see both the twins more clearly than most people did. Torin, though perfectly capable of disappearing into a crowd of two people, had to endure actually being seen in the presence of the computer's personality.

Although moving at a normal pace, the pair had been rather quiet in their approach with their footsteps silent against the background noise of the lobby. Neither was all that surprised that Andara had noticed them. She was, after all, the ship's AI. Short of hacking the system, it was probably impossible to be invisible to Andara in a public area like this. Out of consideration for a conversation that could have been private, they had stopped a polite distance away. Just far enough to pretend they couldn't hear anything between the AI and Jane, but close enough to talk politely.
Annoyance flashed in Torin's eyes, almost too quickly to be seen, before Toni grinned at the AI and spoke. "Didn' get mauled. We'll see 'ow th'photos turn out onna good screen 'ere. Somebody's gotta do somethin' 'bout that midnight sun thing, though."
Behind Toni's back Torin rolled her eyes and made a silent gesture at where sunglasses would have been had she been wearing a pair to indicate what she thought of her twin's seeming aversion to bright light before nodding politely in greeting at Jane.
"'ey Davidson. Yeh gettin' inta trouble again?" The red twin asked.

Turning from Andara, the AI still having not answered her question regarding the headmistress, Jade smiled at the twins.
"Looks like the double trouble have arrived, you to prepared for another year of collecting photographic blackmail as always?"
Jane's words were delivered with a wicked grin. The two have, in the past, delivered, the three of them exchanging favors and making deals with each other over the years when needed. They were... business partners one might say.
Turning to Toni, the one in red, the tall student smirked.
"Trouble? Psh, the headmistress is holding me to the standard promise. No getting into trouble until everyone gets settled in for the new year.... Besides, I'm still paying off my detention from last term..... speaking of which....Did you two get those shots I asked for developed?"
The prank that Jane was still paying off had involved careful planning, positioning, and timing. It had been a challenge to do. But the twins said they had gotten the shots, and did so with out discovery... leaving Jane to take the heat. A price well worth it if the twins had actually developed them.

Toni snorted. "Do yeh think we're stupid?"
"If we were collecting blackmail, do you think we would say so here?" Torin asked at the same time, her voice strong but quiet as her eyes briefly flicked toward the AI then back to Jane.
"What with blackmail bein' gen'rlly illegal and whatnot. But. If yer askin' if I'm plannin' on continuin' explorin' 'xtremely long range telephotography then the answer's yeah." Torin explained with a shrug. "An', yeah. We did. Yeh woulda gotten better prints if yeh'd asked while we had access to the print stuff here. DIY darkroom s**t just ain't our expertise. Don' blame us fer th' quality when we drop 'em off later."

"In answer to your question, Miss Davidson, yes, she has one class each term. Further details about your detention will be delivered as they are given to me by the headmistress."
Light blue eyes followed the conversation between the twins and Jane but there was no outward sign of acknowledging what they were saying about blackmail.

Jane flashed the AI an appreciative smile, before looking back at the twins, with a raised brow and a dry smirk.
"Ladies, I hardly think Andara cares about your hobby of collecting incriminating photographs of various people... so long as it doesn't endanger the ship and the people on board."
If anything, the redhead thought that the ship's AI actually deprived some amusement from the pranks and blackmail so long as it was relatively harmless.
Shifting her gaze to Torin as the twin spoke, she listened, rolling brown eyes rolling at the more vocal twin's words. "I know I sacrificed quality for security. But given the prints...Do you guys really want to think about what would have happened if someone would have found those while you were developing them here on board?"
Though worded like a question, Jane was not expecting an answer. Had the twins tried and gotten caught, the hard earned photos would have been destroyed, and there would have been nothing Jane could do to keep the twins out of trouble. The younger woman actually liked the twins, and even though they had a business partnership, the redhead did what she could to keep them from getting sent to the headmistress, or worse, expelled.
Sighing softly. Jane regarded both of the shorter girls carefully before speaking. "Drop them off at my dorm. Same room as always...You'll find... a bonus on my desk for each of you"
It was a good bonus too, Jane was pleased with herself for having gotten the items delivered to the ship with out anyone raising a brow. Turning from the twins, Jane's attention returned back to the ships AI, not at all bothered by the way Andara's eyes had been following the conversation.
"Andara, could you please send a copy of the instrumental courses being held this term and who the instructors are to my private terminal?"

Both of the twins gave Jane a thin, patient smile that was a few steps shy of condescending. Torin's disappeared first and Toni's quickly turned into her usual slight smirk. There was a good reason why they were here at Astrum and not locked up somewhere or dead.
"They'll be there. We got business with our new...neighbor. Schedules an' whatnot. See yeh later, Davidson." Toni said as the twins turned to walk away. Before they left hearing distance she stopped and called over her shoulder. "Also. Someone wouldn'ta found 'em 'less we wanted 'em to."
With that the twins continued on their way, ostensibly to speak to the new pair who they would be sharing a bathroom with. In the past, they had found it best to find out when the other pair preferred to shower. Some girls took forever and others really didn't like it when you interrupted.

Andara Andara watched both of the twins, bowing ever so slightly as they walked away. With a sway of her silver curtain of hair, the AI turned her apparent attention back to Jane. The golden halo flashed as she devoted processing power to the request given to her by the student in front of her. "The information you have requested has been sent to your personal terminal. Additionally, I have also attached a list of the available school instruments that are at your disposal." Cecilia From her comfortable place in her bed, Cecilia sat up and rummaged about for her favorite sweater. It was too large, lumpy, and had that shapeless hand-made look to it. And yet it was her favorite, she nestled down into it as she focused on her book more intently. Intently enough she wasn't likely to hear the first few knockings on her door. Her new roommate ought to have a key, she figured. No one else would be coming to see her at this point in the day.

“That is one beautiful ship.” Sona had to agree with the pilot’s comment. The Astrum Andara really was beautiful. And she was made even more beautiful by the slow, swooping, graceful arc the pilot was flying around her. “She was a cruise ship, wasn’t she?” Passengers were generally not allowed to sit in the cockpit – especially during docking – but this was a special ship, and Sona was a special passenger. The ship itself was a small transport jumper designed to transport VIPs and rich executives. Most people could never afford to travel in one – especially all alone – but with the Strang Institute footing the bill, Sona had been able to charter the ship solely for the purpose of transporting her to the Astrum Andara. The pilot had been pleasantly surprised to discover that his lone passenger was not some stuffy elitist, and even more surprised to find that she had a starfarer’s licence and had worked on several ore vessels in the Kuiper belt. Sona tired quickly of the luxurious passenger compartment, and when the pilot offered to have her ride shotgun, she leaped at the chance. “That,” Sona said, her voice like wind rustling through flowers, “Was the main reason I chose this school.”“You make it sound like it’s some kind of chore,” the pilot said, amused, “Aren’t you excited?” Sona shrugged, “I need a doctorate for respectability, otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered coming back to school at all. And I figured, if I have to go back to school, why not a school built out of a cruise ship?”“Makes sense,” the pilot said with a chuckle, “But I think you’re underestimating college life. I think you’ll have a blast.” Sona merely shrugged again, and the pilot chuckled again, “You’ll see. I’ll bet big money when I come to pick you up, you’re not going to want to leave.” Sona didn’t argue, but there was no chance to anyway, because the pilot was concentrating on his approach and final docking procedures. “Docking port mating...,” the pilot absently checked off the steps while docking, “Umbilical connection made... systems communicating... seal positive... gravity matched... air pressure matched... aaaand, that’s all she wrote!” he grinned at Sona, “Thank you for flying with us, Miss Sonander. Please make sure you take all your belongings with you. I’d hate to have to charge you for a return trip if I have to bring anything back.” Sona chuckled wryly at the ridiculous notion, and went in the back to retrieve her only baggage – a single duffel back with all of her clothes and a pair of data pads to work on. She stepped through the airlock, and identified herself to the boarding terminal: “Sonander, Sparkle,” she turned her head slightly, for no real reason, because the scanner would read the chip in her head just as well without her moving. Sonander gave the computer a moment to finish checking her identity, passport and medical information on the chip, then continued, “Requesting permission to come aboard.”

"Permission granted." The voice which answered Sona's request was cool, personable, and most of all human. It could have been a real person, though it was only Andara herself. The Captain of course had the final say, but arrival of individual students was rarely under the sphere of things they needed to bother with.
"Welcome aboard, Miss Sonandar. Do you need assistance finding your dormitory?"
It wasn't just any student that got such an offer from the ship's computer, but the institute Sona hailed from was more important than say, simply having a rich family. It was a matter of pride.

“Thank you,” Sona replied to the terminal, “Simple directions will suffice; I do not wish to trouble you any more than necessary. I have studied the ship’s plans, but it is my experience that ship plans rarely match actual ships.”“Pardon me a moment,” Sona added, “I have to excuse my pilot.”Sona informed the pilot that she had been granted boarding clearance, and thanked him for the ride. He repeated his promise that she would enjoy herself, said goodbye, then, presumably, got busy with his preparations for departure. Sona returned her attention to the terminal, “After I have settled in quarters, I would like to request permission to use your external communications array to contact the Strang Institute. I was asked to inform them when I arrived. If it’s a problem, though, may I just ask that a notification message be sent on my behalf. I will supply the contact code. I apologize for the imposition, but the Institute is quite protective of its assets.” If Sona had any feelings about referring to herself as an ‘asset’ of the Strang Institute, they did not show in her voice. She spoke as if she were reading off a laundry list. “After that,” she finished, huffing a little as she hefted her duffel bag over her shoulder. It was not heavy, but Sona was a light gravity baby, and any effort against Earth-normal gravity was still a strain for her. “I suppose that I shall consult the shipboard schedules, and determine where I am supposed to be next.”

"My plans have altered somewhat since I was first commissioned," Andara confirmed once Sona was done talking to the pilot. "The accuracy of the plans you have studied may vary according to the date of the plans. You will find the Artemis Quadrant. If you have a datapad on hand I can send you directions."
It was different than speaking with the average AI. Had Andara not confirmed that the ships plans were plans to "her" it was possible Sona could have been under the impression a genuine person was on the other end of the conversation.

Almost a full hour after leaving Jane and Andara, a series of six sharp raps on the door of Artemis 4A announced the presence of the twins to 4A's inhabitants. The twins stood outside, flanking the door on either side. They had stopped to make sure all of their gear had arrived safely and for a quick change into their uniforms before deciding that their neighbor would have had time to arrive and get settled.

Sona did not miss the pronoun, and was sharp enough to deduce the implications. She dropped her duffel, and dug in it for a data pad, holding it up toward the terminal in receive mode. “My data pad is ready to receive,” she said, simply. “You are the ship,” Sona observed, but her tone of voice made it difficult to determine whether she was making a statement or asking a question. It was the tone of voice one might use to say, ‘nice day,’ in order to ask someone else to comment on it, and thus start a conversation. But then again, Sona did not wait for a conversation to start; she simply continued on as if the observation had been simply a throwaway comment, “Thank you for having me aboard.”“And thank you for this,” she held up the data pad to indicate what she was talking about, then glanced at the newly downloaded map data, “Yes, it should suffice. I believe I can find my way now.”Sona looked right at the terminal’s visual input, “After I have settled in, I should like to discuss the use of some of your facilities that may be... beyond the standard. Nothing too exception, I assure you, and the standard facilities you offer students may already be more than enough. I do not wish to be a bother, so I shall schedule a meeting at your convenience.”Sona stepped back and bowed her head slightly, “Thank you again for your assistance.”Then, with effort, she hoisted up her duffel bag again, and data pad in hand, made her way to her room. As she turned the corner on what should have been the final hall, she stopped dead, and warily looked over the two girls waiting outside one of the room doors, like a matched pair of Mafia thugs waiting to jump someone who owed money. Twins, or possibly clones. An onlooker might wonder why she was so wary of the pair when she seemed more than a physical match for either of them – she was actually taller by several centimetres – but Sona was a light gravity child, having grown up on Triton and asteroid mining ships, so her extra height came at the expense of additional frailty. Plus, they were two and she was one, and they looked dangerous, while she was a theoretical physicist. She glanced at the door they were guarding, and internally sighed with relief: it was not her door, but 4A; her neighbour’s. Still, she would have to pass right by them. She could try to slink by, but that seemed unwise. She knew from watching animal documentaries that signs of weakness in dominance hierarchies would usually do more to provoke an attack, if other members of the pack were irritable, than simple non-confrontational confidence. That meant that the most logical thing to do was: Sona walked right up to the pair... keeping a safe distance of several paces away... and said, “Pardon me. don’t mean to ruin your ambush, but my room is right there.”
