"Whoa. That's an awesome name! I guess Inigo's shorter, though," he agreed. "Oh...wow, you are? I didn't know trainees could have so many pokemon. But I guess if you had some of yours before you joined, that makes sense." He smiled weakly. "I'm a trainee too. Pretty much a newbie. You couldn't tell?"

"Heh...I'll have to take your word for it. Maybe a lot of people are nice here, but only if you earn their respect, right? At least you seem to be somebody. Before I joined here, I was a nobody. Not to mention my tendency to want to play it safe and keep away from Pokemon. I didn't think my job would have much to do with them; I just wanted work so I could earn some money to eat and have a place to stay."

"Mind me asking how you know Agent Aila? You said you haven't been here long, but then what makes you so sure she's nice? Did you know here before then?" Okay, so about half of his questions were answered within the time-span of another awkward shift. "Hey, no big deal. The fact that you own three pokemon and can stand to be around them already makes you more useful than me." The teen paused, then grinned. "Hey, dude, do you like this girl?" The whole time he had been imgining this older woman who had the experience in years to have earned her rank. What if, though, Aila happened to be younger? Young enough for Inigo to have a crush on her?

A sheepish grin graced his features as he reached a hand up to rub the back of his neck. "You think so? I don't usually. It's Spanish," he said with a shrug, dropping his hand back down to pet Leilani more. "I think if you go and get them yourself, you can have as many as you want as long as you can handle them, or at least that's what I heard. They're not gonna just hand you pokemon." Or at least, they hadn't handed him one.

"A somebody?" He asked, eyebrows raised again. What did that.. "Oh, no no, I don't think so," he chuckled, "I just know Aila because I happened to meet her in the woods a few months ago. She came and helped me get my pokemon and research back from the university, it all got confiscated and I didn't think I'd ever get anything or any of my pokemon back." Those had been a horribly few days, to say the least. "Aila helped me get them back and then brought me here afterward. That counts as 'nice' in my book," he chuckled again. The other boy's inflection of the word 'like' was completely and totally lost on Inigo, as indicated by his mildly confused, curious look. "What do you mean? Of course I like her, without her I wouldn't have any of my pokemon right now and would probably be living in the woods." Not that that last part was an entirely bad thing, of course, given he loved nature and camped outside all the time anyway, but still. Having a place to live - and pokemon to share it with, especially Leilani - was a lot better.

"What's wrong with Spanish?" the boy laughed. "You were speaking it before, weren't you? So, what does your name mean in Spanish?" He nodded in acknowledgement of Inigo's comment on pokemon, but he certainly had no intentions of gaining any more than the one he already had.

User ImageTeam Rocket had given him Lindsay to start out with because he'd never before owned a pokemon, had no way to catch one (as he couldn't afford any pokeballs), and because, it seemed, all Rockets were required to have at least one - much to his horror. "Still, it's amazing you're able to take care of so many. Are you, like, rich or something?"

"Wow...that's pretty neat. I'm sorry your pokemon got confiscated though." In reality, Shawn really had no idea why someone would want their pokemon back if they were taken away, but naturally he wasn't going to voice this. It seemed people around here had completely different views on the monsters than he did. The best he could do was nod, pretend to agree, and through that, eventually, hope to understand.

"Yeah, sounds pretty nice of her to help you get them back." That still raised the question of why, though. Was this Aila truly just nice? She was a Rocket after all, wasn't she? Why would anyone from a criminal organization be nice? Maybe she had ulterior motives. Or maybe his paranoia was just getting to him again.

He laughed as Inigo seemed to miss his meaning. "No, no, man! I mean, do you like-like her! Do you have a crush on her? Is she attractive to you?" Was he even allowed to talk about these sort of things? After all, Inigo and Aila were like coworkers, essentially, and the base was pretty much the workplace. Would it be wrong to suggest or even ask if there was anything going on between them? Oh, well. No one had told the street kid otherwise.

"Nothing's wrong with Spanish," he said, eyebrows raising a bit. When did he say that? "And yeah, I've been speaking it for years." Well, that was sort of true and sort of false. Mostly true? He wasn't sure anymore. Oh well. "Uh, my full name? I'm not really sure it has a meaning.." He'd never really bothered to look up names or their meanings, that was more of a girly thing to do really.

Claimed the teen who has a love affair with flowers.

"Rich? Me?" The question actually made him laugh, and it was a few moments until he managed to stop himself. "Nah. I mean, the only way I could even afford to go to the University in Sandalwood is cuz I got a scholarship, I didn't have to pay for anything. Which is good, because I couldn't. My family doesn't really have much money," he admitted with a shrug. At least they'd have more now that he was out of the picture. "And they're not really hard to take care of, as long as they get enough food and exercise they're fine. And training too, I guess," which was why they were there... He'd completely forgotten. But he still wasn't exactly sure how to go about this whole 'training' thing. In hindsight, it probably wasn't a very good idea for their superiors to shove them in a room and go 'here you go, train your pokemon' and expect every single recruit to know what to do... But then, he supposed, most people did know at least the basics of training and could probably figure it out eventually. Damn, now he felt dumb or something, but at least he wasn't the only one.

"Yeah, it was," he agreed with a grin, though his expression turned to shock and confusion as he asked his next few questions. Ohh, so that's what he meant. "Nah, are you kidding? Just because I say a girl's been awesome to help me out doesn't mean I have a crush on her." Had this guy never had a girlfriend or something? ...why did everybody always assume relationship stuff like that? It was really weird. "Besides, I don't even know if it's allowed to have relationships or stuff like that in here. Probably can't outside, either - compromise security and stuff like that, maybe." He really had no idea.

Alright, time to turn the tables. With a half-grin, half-smirk, he turned to regard the other trainee. "Why d'you ask? Do you have a crush on some girl or something?"

"Oh, uh, well nothing, but you said you didn't think your name was awesome, and then you said it was Spanish right after that, soooo..." Awwwkward...way to go, Shawn. Brilliant. "Really? That's cool. I don't know any languages. Er, other than the one I can speak, of course. Was Spanish your first?" He smiled, wondering how the guy could know his name was Spanish, but not what it meant. Then again, he supposed just because names had a language or country of origin didn't necessarily mean they meant something in that language or country.

The kid cringed. Did I say something stupid? Oh, man, I did, didn't I? Why else could the guy have been laughing so hard? "Oh. That...means you're really smart, then, right?" At least the guy had something going for him. And at least they seemed to have something in common. "Sounds like we were both pretty poor, but at least it looked like you had a future ahead of you. You're, um, not still going to the University while in Team Rocket, are you? Why'd you quit if you didn't have to pay for it?" Inigo could have gotten a good job paying good money. A legal job. It didn't make sense to Shawn why the older teen would have just thrown that away.

"Well, maybe it doesn't mean that, but do you, or not? That's why I'm asking," the younger trainee snickered. "Answer the question!"

"Yeah...true," he admitted, nodding in agreement. "Seems like in this line of work, a relationship would be pretty hard to maintain. I know for a fact that some sappy romantics think that makes the idea all the more enticing, though." He got up from his cross-legged position against the wall beside Inigo, flinching as he realized his foot had fallen asleep. He shook it to bring circulation back into it.

"Huh - what? Me?!" Brushing himself and his baggy pants off, the Goldenrod native laughed aloud. His Jolteon looked up, startled. "No way, dude! Girls are are trouble - at least to me. Not like I know many. Besides, I'm only 16. Who would want a piece of this?" He gestured with a grin at his bony body, only slightly healthier-looking than an anorexic's due to his previously half-starved status as a homeless street kid.

Over the past few weeks, though, (after his body had adjusted to regular, daily meals of food instead of rejecting them and making him throw up,) he had finally managed to get some meat on his skinny limbs. "Heh...I don't exactly work out. Speaking of which...why don't you and I get this over with, have a quick training battle or something, and get out of this place?"

He walked to the opposite end of the room, continuing to talk as he did so. "You don't look like you want to be here any more than I do. Mind starting? I've, um...never done this before." Shawn was glad to note that Lindsay had gotten up and followed him. She seemed to have a basic idea of what was going on and she looked eager to fight. Her trainer didn't know if that was something to be glad about or a cause for concern, but at least with her cooperation they could probably get things done faster.
PostPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 3:20 pm

"Yeah, Spanish was my first," he said with a shrug. He was glad for it, even if it made things difficult early on. A little difficult. Very difficult. "Um, I guess? I'm mostly good with botany. Plants and stuff, and grass-type pokemon. And no, I'm not still going." Cue even more awkward shifting. "I sort of, uh, got kicked out. That's why they confiscated my pokemon and Aila helped get them back." Ah, fine, the guy was still insisting. "I guess so," he said at length, running his fingers through his hair with one hand. "She's a little short, black hair.. She's got rosy-pink eyes and they're cool." Was that what he'd wanted in response? He really had no idea, he was never very good at that sort of thing - thus probably why all his relationships thus far never really panned out.

"Alright, I guess we can battle," he agreed before hoisting himself up off the bench, choosing to ignore the final comments on a few topics on which he had nothing further to say, then turned to his pokemon. "Okay, Dimi-- no, uh.. Fantasi--ah," the little Deerling had squeaked and dove behind Meganium as soon as he started to say her name. She knew exactly what was going on. No way was she going anywhere near that thing! "Well then, uh.. Leilani?" The Meganium crooned happily, but Inigo rubbed the back of his neck hesitantly. He had no idea how strong Lindsay was, but Leilani was.. sort of strong? She had to be to have fully evolved, so maybe one of the others would be better.. "Uhh.. Fantasia," he said finally in a decisive tone, but the deer merely bleated pitifully in response, still adamantly hiding behind Leilani. "C'mon, you'll never get any bigger or stronger if you don't battle," he sighed, moving over to scoop up the small pokemon. She struggled a bit in his arms but he continued walking anyway, and set her down when they were far enough from the bench and in what he assumed was the designated area. She immediately made to run back though, but he quickly grabbed her around the middle and plunked her back down in front of him. "No, stay. Battle, okay?" The little pink and green deer stood frozen to the spot, gray eyes wide and focused on the Jolteon. She did not trust the other pokemon, not at all. Inigo sighed at the little Deerling, then looked over at the other trainee. Was he going to go first, or did they have to like.. flip a coin, or..? He couldn't even remember the last time he battled.

"Kicked out?" Shawn repeated, shocked. "They payed you to go, and then they kicked you out? Man, I didn't know schools did that. What did you do to make that happen?"

The kid grinned as Inigo described Aila - presumably physical features he liked about her. "Sounds pretty cute," the trainee encouraged. "I think there might be more than one Rocket girl around here with that description, though," he teased. "Better not get her confused with that other one. What was her name?" He snapped his fingers. "Claire, I think."

Okay, time to get down to business. Shawn might not have been a pokemon expert, but he was willing and eager to learn. This simple fact rapidly sped up his education process, allowing him to pick things up quicker than most even if he had started a lot farther behind. As he got into position, though, he noticed Inigo seemed to be having a little trouble deciding which of his three pokemon to train first.

As Fantasia ducked for cover behind Leilani, Shawn couldn't help but shoot her a sympathetic smile. Smart deer. I wouldn't wanna face her either, the boy thought, glancing at Lindsay, who seemed to be annoyed at having to wait. This one's got a temper. He'd acted the same way during the first few weeks of having her, cowering in the corner of his bed, and he was her trainer.

Catching Inigo's uneasy gesture, the younger teen waved a careless hand. "Don't worry about it. I don't know anything about this any more than you do." Shawn had been told Lindsay had been evolved with a Thunderstone very early on as an eevee, so her personality and technique was not as mature or developed as most other evolved eeveeloutions. That, the other Rockets had told him, was what made her 'defective' as a useful pokemon. He believed in her, though. Despite her young age, rash nature, and inexperience, she had a lot of raw power that meant a lot of raw potential if only she could be bothered to focus and sharpen it.

"Jol! Jolt, Jolteon!" the electric-type snarled viciously, impatient to begin.
she snapped at pretty Deerling, sparking with envy. Without waiting for Shawn's dictation, Lindsay zapped a small ThunderShock Fantasia's way, hoping to provoke her into action.

"Lindsay!" Shawn cried in surprise as his pokeon started fighting before he even gave her an order. She must have been more eager than he realized. "Bad girl! We haven't even started yet." His anxiety about using Lindsay increased. Was this such a good idea after all? Poor Fantasia...but her trainer was right. She needed to get stronger. And Lindsay needed a lesson in humility. "Lindsay, stay. Fantasia gets to go first. That was a false start."

the jolteon muttered grumpily, but did as she was told and braced herself for the Deerling's attack.
PostPosted: Tue Oct 11, 2011 8:42 pm

"I uh.." More awkward shuffling. "I don't wanna talk about it." Plus it wasn't like there hadn't been enough talk in the papers immediately after he'd been expelled, anyway... "Huh? Oh, yeah, I guess?" The trainee shrugged, then reached a hand up to rub the back of his neck. "I don't know the other one though. Don't know many people yet," he finished with a sheepish grin. He wasn't exactly the social butterfly. Normal plant butterfly, yes.

Fantasia stood stock-still, frozen to the spot as wide, terrified gray eyes stared at the Jolteon. At her offensive barks, a pitiful whimper escaped her and she slowly sank onto the floor, but at the electricity, the Deerling's ears shot straight up. She scrambled to her feet and was hiding behind Leilani in an instant. Inigo blinked in surprise at Lindsay's attack, so while Shawn chastised her he walked around to grab Fantasia again, then plopped her back down in the spot. "Fantasia," he said sternly, "go attack her. Seriously. Go do--uh.." He paused to pull his 'dex out from a pocket, studying it momentarily before putting it away. "Sand attack." There, that should help a bit and maybe ease her into it.

Fantasia bleated pitifully again but, upon seeing the look on her trainer's face, she turned to look at the Jolteon again, her whole body trembling. She took a deep breath however, then suddenly bolted forward and just as suddenly skidded to a halt not far from Lindsay, attempting to spray sand - how was that even possible inside a building - to lower her accuracy, then attempted to dash back to Inigo as fast as her slender legs could carry her.

Lindsay, looking bored, hadn't actually expected the grass-type to successfully carry out her technique. Thus, she was caught by surprise as the sand got in her eyes, making it difficult to see. She growled and thrashed viciously, pawing at her face. That little frosting-covered Deerling was going to get it.

"Nice," Shawn said, impressed as he stared, trying to figure out where in the world the sad had come from. "That was...wow. Lindsay, you still able to - "

A lightning bolt zapped the ground before him.

"Ooookay, I'll take that as a yes. Um..." Following Inigo's example, Shawn took out his own dex. Jolteon, Jolteon...there. "Pin missile...?" he suggested tentatively, thinking at least she wouldn't have to try very hard to aim. Lindsay immediately obeyed.

"Whoa," the street kid yelped as he dodged a stay missile. "Take it easy!" Shawn looked worriedly at Inigo. "Is training supposed to be hazardous for the trainers?"
PostPosted: Mon Oct 24, 2011 12:48 pm

"Yeah," Inigo agreed, eyebrows raised as he scratched his head. "Not really sure how that works inside, but um.. it worked?" Cue bemused shrug. At Lindsay's sudden attack, the Spanish kid's eyebrows shot up and he dove behind Leilani as a volley of pins hurtled towards them. Dimitri and Fantasia had the exact same idea as the majority of the pins shot past them all, but a few managed to hit the large Meganium instead. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Inigo patted the trembling Deerling's side before whispering, "double kick" and pushing her out from behind Leilani, then stood up and dusted himself off. "I dunno man, but I don't think so." Otherwise a lot of people wouldn't be so keen to battle, he figured.

Fantasia whimpered again but obeyed anyway, dashing out and towards Lindsay. Either more determined or more brave - or just more eager to get this whole thing over with sooner - the Deerling quickly ran to the Jolteon and attempted to kick her.

"Sorry, Leilani," Shawn apologized, amused that all of Inigo's team - including Inigo himself - seemed to be using the large grass-type as a living shield. The poor pokemon wasn't even a part of the battle.

"Uh..." While the teen searched through his pokedex, trying to come up with a more suitable attack for Lindsay to try, the deer pokemon came up to the half-blinded electric-type and effectively double-kicked her in the head and side. Shawn looked up just in time to see it happen, calling out his pokemon's name with no way else to warn her. "Lindsay!" The Jolteon was knocked off her feet.

He searched again for an attack, almost desperately this time, but before he could utter a word, his pokemon was fighting back. In her blind rage, Lindsay shot a powerful Thunder attack in the center of the room. Up until then, the boy had only been aware she could use Thundershock attacks, not Thunder. Though the low-accuracy attack didn't come close to hitting the grass-type, Darrow was distraught. Why was she attacking without him again?

"Lindsay, you're supposed to wait for my signal," he told his girl, though his tone was more pleading than commanding. "Can't you behave for once? Please? You gotta reel in that temper of yours!"

"Jolt! Jolteon, jolt!" She tried to justify, but of course Shawn couldn't understand her. She could do this. She didn't need him telling her what to do. Who knew her attacks better than she did? Didn't he trust her to know what to use?

The boy sighed. "I know you're strong, but sometimes power isn't everything a situation calls for, you know?" Not only had that been a poor choice due to the level of accuracy and luck it required, but Thunder could have seriously hurt Fantasia, not to mention Inigo. Shawn looked to his fellow trainer. "Go ahead. That attack counted as a turn. Fantasia gets to go again. And Lindsay, be good this time."

The Jolteon growled, but remained where she was. Fine. She could beat this Deerling without moving a muscle.
PostPosted: Tue Oct 25, 2011 8:35 pm

The Meganium crooned awkwardly, antennae twitching as she glanced around. That hurt!

Thankfully for all involved - except perhaps Lindsay - the inaccurate attack was made even less so due to the previous sand attack, and landed far from everyone in the room. This didn't stop the Deerling from trembling again, but as she returned to his side, Inigo knelt down to pet her side. "Try another double-kick," he suggested, and the grass-type bleated pitifully before running nervously towards the Jolteon again to repeat her last attack.

Inigo sighed, reaching up to push a hand through his hair as he stood. Ay, Lindsay sure needed to learn a few things... Then again, they all did, so it was a good sort of learning experience for all of them, he supposed... Maybe. The jury was still out on that, actually.

The Jolteon stood her ground, though because she had been expecting the attack this time, she wasn't as thrown-off balance by it. After recovering, she was just about to attack when - she remembered to wait for Shawn's order. Glancing back at him almost impatiently, she barked.

"Good girl," Shawn said, watching his pokemon steadily. "Alright. Try Quick Attack."

Eager and willing, the electric-type ran at Fantasia. Unknown to Shawn, Jolteon was one of the top five fastest pokemon known - fourth in line after Deoxys, Ninjask, and Electrode. Though Lindsay was still an inexperienced eeveeloution who had been evolved at a very young level, after her raw power, she was second-most proud of her speed.

This was displayed clearly as she charged toward Fantasia, ready to give it all she had.
