"Not the first to try and pry at them... " He said with a soft chuckle. "I've been reprimanded more than a few times for spraying the inspectors with ink when they stopped in while I was out. I've lost three of my second notebook to my water trap...as all the ink was chosen for its water solubility... I have a good memory for the most important pages, and the others...well I have back up's but you'd need to flip through all my books and find the notations there." He chuckled softly... "Sociopathic... right?" He said with a small shrug.
"You're just the first person I've actually lent one to, I considered it with Schee but I don't think that fits his path in life...or the Kingdom. You though, I think I'm interested to see if you can figure them out."

"I, uh, I haven't actually spent that much time thinking about it, to be honest." He shook his head at Zac, his smile widening a bit too much. His mind had been on other things more than on the books, and that was even discounting the lewd.
"I'll get to it, though. I um. I mean, I went out, and there was some time spent at the library, and then the fighting..." He waved it off, somewhat absently. "Things a bit chaotic, at the moment."

"Tsh..." the sound was a his between his teeth and he folded his arms. "It better not be so easy you figure it out in a day." He said defensive again. "I'd have to rethink my whole system, that would be frustrating." He huffed and scowled... it was made all the worse for looking younger than his years but he shrugged it off after a moment.
"No... you're rather clever, I shouldn't be upset if you do figure it out, that would be like being mad that Linarite did...I'm sure she could have..."
Though he'd been scolded about his notes in the past, nothing could truly stop them, they were as much a part of his being and life as breathing anymore. One day... one day he'd have the time to put it all to good use as well.
His mind drifted to the other night and his cheeks reddened as he glanced away, not perhaps the chaotic Ever had meant.
"They rather have been, haven't they."

Ever's grin widened as Zac went flustered, the breath huffing out of him all at once and eyebrows wiggling in a somewhat suggestive way.
"...I do feel a bit better, though." A pause. A beat. At this point, he was just messing with Zac, certainly. "I mean, from the walk. It's helping. I don't like getting that jittery...should have had a drink instead."
He waved a wobbling so-so gesture. "Booze. Downers. Would have cooled it some maybe."

"I do believe you still have green apple vodka, unless you breezed through that already." he needled slightly about the goof up he had made with the Birthday gift. How was he to know that when he said "Good" that the b*****d would get what apparently amounted to 'Alcoholic Jolly Ranchers'... though he was still sure it had to taste better than that other swill.
"Keep waggling those eyebrows I might duct-tape them off." He said folding his arms and trying to look more offended than he was actually feeling, though the lack of that feeling was an almost disturbing surprise.

That got a laugh that turned into a mournful twitch of a smile, his eyes still wicked as he peered down at Zac.
"I wish your sister weren't at my place." It should have come across innocent, but Ever managed to make even that sound suggestive, somehow. He looked up the street and then back down, digging for innocence and not quite finding it.
"If she weren't, we could dig out and share that unopened bottle of green apple vodka..."

The heat in his cheeks raised slightly imagining the degree of trouble they could most likely get into with Vodka involved, quite a few thoughts and not one cold shower in sight. He tugged at his ear lobe instead wishing he had thought to put an ear ring in when he got the call.
"I've almost got everything lined up to be able to send her to St. Magdalina's... It's.... Damned hard trying to start someone from scratch and I haven't a fraction of what we would need for close scrutiny. But enough to send her very soon..."
He glanced over at Ever, " I really appreciate it, maybe... Save it for celebrating?" his turn now to arch eyebrows almost casual. He feined innocent better by practice alone but this time he was sure to let that slip.

He got a snicker in reply, a quick look around them -- and foiled by strangers on the other side of the street. Alas. They shot the two boys a disdainful sort of look, a brief pass of eyes before the went back to their convo. Ever was still bloodied, looked like he'd been a fight, dirty, even if he was mostly healed underneath the mess.
"I'll come by your dorm again, then." It wasn't really a question, nor was he asking permission: Ever was just warning, his own attention resettling onto Zac's face. Bright, and easy. "I think I could climb the tree now. Most of the bruising died down, not quite as stiff..."
And, he realized, the energy had probably patched up the rest. Good to remember. He shrugged.

"Just don't break the window with a rock in your efforts..." he said and added only half joking. "I'd have to rig the window if people figured out that branch reaches so well."

"Um." Ever paused to think about that, a joke dying on his lips as he considered Sabine again, and the issue posed therein. Difficult. He shifted where he stood and tried to figure out exactly what to say.
"You should maybe talk to her, maybe take her out, Zac. I mean. In the...other...way. She's curious, and if you don't show her stuff -- or get someone else to, I don't mind doing it but I might not be strong enough -- she'll probably just do it on her own." Had already been doing it on her own, but Ever could feign ignorance of that. "Could be bad."

For a split second he started to look angry, then it died under the weight of knowing that he was, in many ways, hiding from what he had done to her.
"You're right..." he said the flush fading from his cheeks. "I'll speak to he'd when we get back... Let her help choose the time, I don't want her... I don't want her to think evey answer comes from someone else."
He swallowed hard to push back the hint of guilt that threatened him, general or not he was human enough at heart to question his decisions, now and perhaps forever.

"Um." It was agreement and also concern, Ever fidgeting where he stood for a moment before reaching out to slide fingers into Zac's hair. His thumb smothed briefly against Zac's jaw, and Ever eased in a bit closer. Not quite a hug: it was both more intimate and easier to escape than that. An absent attempt at reassurance. If Zac had let him, Ever probably would have curled him in closer.
"She seems okay, though. I mean, happy enough. Just restless." And Ever could sympathize.

He turned his face just for a second into that brief touch, an acknowledgment as much as a concession to that light brush despite being in public. Quite probably as much as he could stand, the subtly of it won more than a few points even if he never said and likely never would.
"It's good to hear that..." he said finding his voice again as the touch passed, "I'm glad..." He didn't perhaps sound glad but he looked at least a little less introspective and afraid.
He put on a smile, though it only just reached his eyes. "Let's go... "
And for just a second his hand brushed Ever's arm.
