Well, the choices are either Greil's Mercenaries or Gerik's Mercenaries, as the sequel to Shadow Dragon isn't in America yet, and Dieck only appeared in the Japanese Sword of Seals.
Members of Gerik's Mercenaries: Gerik (Mercenary), Tethys (Dancer), and Mia (Myrmidon), none of which use Axes
Members of Greil's Mercenaries: Most everyone in PoR XD
Well, my only other idea is Titania, as she uses Axes

I read a part of your post first, saw the title of the game in it and I can't say it without giving it away too much. -__-
The only thing in my name that I lost from my Jpn -> NA name is a switch in lettering, my companions weren't so lucky.

Don't worry about it, Amelia, I'm sure this one is a toughie, I'll be sure to pick more well known characters next time. D;
My companions's names are almost the same, only a one letter difference in both Jpn and NA.

Well, then one of your hints is invalid. There are no more Axe users in the Mercenary groups presented in the 5 NA games.
Lyn didn't form an official gang of mercenaries, nor did anyone in Lyn's gang of "mercenaries" appear in Sword of Seals
The Black Fang were assassins, not mercenaries
Gerik's mercenaries had no axe wielders
Greil Mercenaries had few axe users: Boyd and Titania, neither are correct
The Dawn Brigade was not a group of mercenaries

Yes there is, in one NA game, there is a group of axe users, minus the captain. ;D
