Fandangle RP

"Satoshi," Schuldig's voice was soft, as it generally was when he interrupted his bonded Juusanshi. The redhaired man stood in the doorway to Satoshi's room, something green and rather oddly shaped held in his hands.

Satoshi looked up from what he was doing - what else? he was reading - and set the book aside, offering his bonded a smile. "Schuldig, please come in. What is it?"

Schuldig grinned and entered the room, sitting down next to Satoshi. Now that he was closer, the cat could see what looked like some sort of mechanical device held in Schuldig's hands. A pink sprocket danced in Schuldig's hair - as it had non-stop for the last few days.

Another sprocket-like disk was inserted in the device, though it was green and looked far more complicated.

"What is that?" Satoshi asked, fascinated. His world had little in the way of technology - at least, in comparison to Gaia. He hadn't seen Aishiki in a while, so was unaware that she already possessed something quite similar.

"It's called a Fandangle," Schuldig said. "I received it today and...I'd like you to have it. You see, it's a light Fandangle, and it needs to be immersed in light each day. I think you'd take good care of it."

"Me?" Satoshi blinked, his eyes widening and ears flicking back in surprise. At Schuldig's urging, he reached out and took the controller. It bleeped at him, and his sash brightened for a moment.

Satoshi realized he was grinning from ear to ear and quickly straightened his face. No sense in embarassing himself, after all. He glanced up at Schuldig and nodded gravely. "Thank you," he said. "I'll take good care of it, I promise."

"It'll bond to you," Schuldig warned. The pink sprocket was inching towards Satoshi. As Satoshi nodded his understanding, it flew directly at him and stuck to his upper arm, making a noise that sounded oddly like a purr.

"That needs love, too," Schuldig said, his grin returning with a bit of mischief. "It's an accessory, a love sprocket."

Hesitantly, Satoshi reached up and stroked the metal disk.

Snickering, Schuldig beat his retreat. Something like this would do Satoshi good.

RP Log
Satoshi frowned and curled his tail around the Fandangle. "Stay there, would you?" he growled irritably. "You fly about and attract too much attention."

"Sorry!" Came a small voice from the metal disk. At least the Fandangle wasn't nearly as annoying as the sprocket, which had NO sense of decorum. Satoshi twitched an ear as the love sprocket became entangled in his hair. Again.

Sighing, he continued down the street. It was a beautiful day, and he'd thought about going to Bass'Ken and just sitting by the lake for a while, enjoying the sunshine.

As he reached the lake, he noticed a familiar form near it, laying on a spread blanket with a plate of grapes nearby and a book in front of her. Rather than enjoying the scenery, she seemed to be reading aloud, and it took Satoshi a moment to recognize the text as one on Shisei - one he rather liked as well for being informative AND interesting.

Satoshi blinked, his ears flicking back in surprise, as he approached. "Afternoon, sister," he said. "Who are you reading to?"

Aishiki blinked, turning to peer owlishly up at Satoshi for a moment before recognizing him. As she moved, she revealed an oddly sharp-looking cog settled near her chest, six blue stars spinning irritably at its time with Aishiki being interrupted. "Satoshi! What are you doing here?" she asked, grinning and moving to sit up so that he'd have space on the blanket beside her.

Satoshi blinked at the cog, his eyes widening. "You have one too?" he said, sitting down a little harder than he'd intended to as his own Fandangle peeked out from behind him.

"Hello?" came Tadashi's soft voice as it rolled out onto the blanket, approaching Aishiki's Fandangle cautiously.

Salvus' irritation immediately faded, curiousity getting the better of him as he floated up to peer at Tadashi curiously. One star stretched out, tapping against Tadashi's surface briefly. "Who're you?" he asked lightly.

Aishiki chuckled, peering at Tadashi for a moment before bright eyes met Satoshi's. "Did Xue take you to the shop, too? Or maybe Seppen?"

"Actually...Schuldig gave it to me yesterday," Satoshi said uncertainly. "He said I would do a better job of taking care of it than he could, because of our affinity to light. We're still getting to know each other."

Tadashi withdrew slightly, the small balls all over its surface whirling. "I'm Tadashi," it said in an arch tone. "Who are you?"

"Salvus," came the immediate answer, Salvus tilting thoughtfully for a moment before reaching out with his star again and tapping Tadashi's surface once more. "Tag!" He zoomed away a moment later, clearly expecting Tadashi to follow.

Aishiki blinked at her cog, then let her face fall into her hand, laughing softly. "Sal likes tag quite a lot. He and Kumo play."

Tadashi considered this briefly, then bobbed in place for a moment before taking off after Salvus with a long-suffering sort of sigh.

Satoshi chuckled, watching the two cogs zoom around the area. "Tadashi's a bit more reserved."

Aishiki watched for a moment, then nodded. "So I see... Grape?" she asked, holding out the plate.

Satoshi smiled and took one. "Thank you," he said, stretching out on the towel next to her. "So why were you reading to Salvus? Is he interested in Shisei history?"

"He seems interested in learning. Apparently, his affinity is with data. I'm trying to figure out things I can do to keep him comfortable without having to always resort to Scientia and Doctrina," Aishiki said calmly, grinning at Satoshi.

Over the water, she heard Salvus yelp as he misjudged a turn and bumped into Tadashi. "I'm it?" he called out immediately after, so even before she was more than partway to her feet, Aishiki had been reassured.

"Yes!" Tadashi said, zooming off in the opposite direction with a flash of light from its diodes. Clearly, despite its misgivings, it was having fun.

Satoshi chuckled. "Tadashi likes to learn, too, but of course its affinity is to light. I could swear that my own abilities are enhanced by it, too. It likes to nest in my sash." As he spoke, a pink sprocket peeked out from behind his ear, seeming to peer at Aishiki.

Aishiki grinned. "I'm not surprised, given the way your sash glows. It's probably pretty easy to keep Tadashi comfortable there. Kumo also has an affinity to light," she added after a moment, chuckling. "I wonder if Tadashi and Kumo might get along well." She tilted her head, looking thoughtfully toward Salvus. "I like Sal. He's... surprised me with how nice it is to have him around." As she spoke, she reached out to the pink sprocket, stroking one finger over its curve.

The sprocket wriggled with delight, purring and rubbing against Aishiki's finger. Satoshi nodded, his smile staying in place. "It's been very interesting having Tadashi around, as well. I wasn't expecting to enjoy such constant companionship, but it's...nice.

"You get used to it after a while," Aishiki nodded, laughing at the sprocket and glancing to Satoshi. "May I?"

Salvus squealed, flying after Tadashi and obviously pleased that the other cog was already good at evading him.

Tadashi flashed brightly as Salvus grew too close, and zigzagged, obviously trying to confuse the other cog's sensors.

"Of course," Satoshi said, not certain what Aishiki was asking permission for, but pretty sure he wouldn't object, regardless.

Salvus paused, not used to such actions. As his sensors grew accustomed to the flashes of light, his stars whirled around his core.

Aishiki grinned, carefully lifting the sprocket from behind Satoshi's ear and cradling it gently as she continued to stroke a curve. "What's its name?" she asked, a gentle look in her eyes as she glanced up to Satoshi.

"Um," Satoshi said, eyeing the sprocket. "I have no idea," he said helplessly. "I didn't know I was supposed to name that one, too...."

"Do you only have the one?" Aishiki blinked, tickling at the center of the sprocket.

"Thus far," Satoshi said. "I thought to visit the shop - Schuldig gave me directions - to see if I might obtain some more. They're supposed to aid in some way...?"

"They're elemental batteries," Aishiki said promptly, recalling the information she'd worked to commit to memory. "Since Sal's element is data, I have two data sprockets that help me keep him charged. That's what I mean by comfortable." She paused, then chuckled wryly. "The book mentions that charging with other elements could result in some interesting abilities, but I haven't been able to quite work up the courage to experiment yet. After Sal shut off the one time, I'm a bit skittish of anything that might hurt him..."

"He shut off?" Satoshi's eyes widened. "Why?"

"The shopowner said that the system was hacked. He likened it to a near-death experience. Sal's shown some unusual activity since, but it seems mostly as though Moorgahaine may just be trying to get everything up and running again. Tests, that sort of thing." Aishiki shrugged. "Sal's doing fine otherwise. Xue and I kept an eye on Sal and Kumo right after it happened... and it seemed to help them being around each other."

"I'm glad they're all right," Satoshi said, his ears perking up. "Xue has one, too? What sort of cog is it?"

Aishiki blinked, realizing finally that while she'd told Satoshi about Kumo, and mentioned Xue, she'd never actually connected the two in conversation. "Xue's cog is Kumo - the one whose affinity is also light? She and Sal are friends."

"Ahh," Satoshi said, smiling and nodding in understanding. "I understand. Do any of the other Juusanshi have them? I wonder why so many of us do."

"I'm not sure. Salvus... attached himself to me without any clue as to why - everyone just told me that Fandangles are Meant For certain people." Satoshi could hear the capitals in her voice.

Satoshi nodded. "I can understand that," he said, glancing up at Tadashi with a faraway fond look. "I think Tadashi was meant for me."

"He definitely was," Aishiki murmured, grinning at her brother. "They don't bond except to whoever they're meant for. That's what the shopkeep told me, anyway." She reached for a grape. "You... look happy he's around. That's always good."

Satoshi coloured slightly, glancing down and grabbing a grape for himself as well. "Is it obvious?" he asked.

"Very, to anyone who knows you. You never smile that much, unless Seppen's beside you," Aishiki said, releasing the love sprocket finally. "I like it when you're happy."

The sprocket spirally up into the sky, joining the chase. Satoshi's colour deepened. "Well...I suppose I like it, too." He glanced at Aishiki. "You seem happier lately, too. Happier since you met Xue, and even happier now."

"I am happier," Aishiki said firmly, nodding to him. "I have a couple new friends, and I know no one's going to force me back to Shisei." Quietly content eyes peered at him. "I think... I'm finally learning how to live."

"Me too," Satoshi replied softly. "Strange how we had to die in order to find that - in a way," he said softly.

"Was it awful for you, at first?" Aishiki asked curiously.

"Yes," Satoshi said quietly, without reservation. "I didn't know if I'd ever see any of you again, and even after you and Tamako arrived, I was afraid we'd be the only ones to survive the plague, because we weren't able to open the portal at first." He sighed softly. "And my whole life was Shisei. Not IN Shisei, but the world itself and its people. I never really realized it before."

Aishiki considered that, watching the chase still going on. "I... was glad at first," she admitted softly, wanting to be as candid with her brother as he'd been with her.

"Why?" Satoshi said, a little wary, but not upset. He sounded more surprised and confused, wondering why Aishiki would be glad of something like that.

"I hated Court, hated all the intrigue and the rumors." She paused, then reached out for Satoshi's hand, covering it with her own lightly. "I thought, at first, that the only thing that could hurt would be knowing that the two people I cared about would miss me."

Satoshi's eyes widened. "I'm glad that you're feeling better," he said, turning his hand over and holding it. "I hated all those things, too. But I dealt with them because...it's my duty." He shrugged. "I had no choice."

"You were good at it. It never seemed like you noticed them until you'd fixed something," Aishiki murmured. "I'm glad we're still able to talk."

"I noticed," Satoshi said. "I never thought I was very good at it, actually. But I muddled through." He squeezed Aishiki's hand. "And so am I. You...were always the sister I felt most comfortable with."

"That's just because I'm quiet and Tamako's your polar opposite," Aishiki chuckled.

Satoshi chuckled. "Exactly."

"I wonder... if Seppen might like a fandangle," Aishiki said thoughtfully, shooting a glance at her brother.

Satoshi blinked. "I don't know," he said. "I suppose I could ask him. It would be nice for him to have another companion he could trust," he added thoughfully.

Aishiki nodded. "If not a Fandangle, perhaps something else... Someone else... Just so that he's not alone so much?"

Nodding, Satoshi was already deep in thought. "I'll have to think of something," he said. "Something he'd like."

Aishiki smiled, nodding and letting him muse as she reached out to tap Salvus. The cog paused, hovering in front of her. "Would you like to see if your new friend would like to be read to as well?" she asked.

Sal paused a moment, then zoomed off after Tadashi.

Tadashi bobbed around, having overheard the question. "Okay," it said, moving closer to Satoshi and Aishiki again. "What are you going to read?"

"Would you like to hear some of the stories of Satoshi's old home?" Aishiki asked, reaching into a nearby basket and retrieving a smaller, thinner book.

The balls in Tadashi's face whirled. "Yes, very much," he said regally, settling down to the blanket next to Satoshi. Satoshi smiled faintly, glancing at Aishiki with an approving nod.

Aishiki nodded, setting the previous book aside. Satoshi recognized the second book as a book of short stories - fiction based very closely on fact.

Tadashi settled against Satoshi, the love sprocket snugglings up against it, as well, and waited for Aishiki to read.

Aishiki chuckled, stretching out once more as Salvus settled near her chest. She started to read quietly, enjoying the company.

Shop RP Log
Satoshi poked his head into the shop, an ear twitching anxiously. It looked as though some sort of battle was going on here, and he and his cog had only wanted to meet some other Fandangles and their bonded.

"Hello? Is something wrong here?"

"Play, not poke," the cog said, nudging back at Ravija's finger.

"Nope!" Ravi said cheerfully, waving at the new person. "I'm Ravija, this is Zanna," she said, pointing to the other girl, "and it looks like some of the shop's stuff wants to play."

The cog bobbled in the air. It was getting somewhere. "Yesyes, play! Now!"

"Play?" Satoshi blinked, fully entering the shop, his tail twitching slightly. Tadashi flew slowly towards the hyperactive cog, whirling in place.

"What can we play?" the green cog asked.

Zanna gave the boy a wave as she turned around in her crutches, whirlling cog staying behind her as he flashed his center towards the back of the store. Once that was done he spun around to the front of Zanna, heading towards the door anxiously. "We leave. Now."

The teen Simu just shrugged and crutched after it, since it was about time for her ride to be here anyways. Giving another wave to the two she was leaving, she disappeared outside.

As soon as the cog had her attention, a swarm of sprockets appeared from behind the counter, some of which held the handles to a bag, carrying the data CDs and cleaning supplies with them as well. Zooming after the girl quickly to make it through the closing door, the flock zipped through the door crack, Indiana Jones style.

"Tag!" The colorful cog bumped the green cog and then zoomed away from Ravi up toward the ceiling, making a sound like a laugh punctuated by the sharp ticks of a small clock and completing a complex set of gyrations as it went.

"So... what's your name?" Ravi asked.

Tadashi hesitated for a moment. "Why does EVERYONE like tag?" it asked in a plaintive tone, before zooming after the colourful cog.

Satoshi gave Ravi a faint smile, approaching her and keeping just half an eye on his cog. "My name is Satoshi. And yours?"

"Um, Ravija. I just came in to see if anyone was here--" And to play with the carpet. "--and then Zanna came in and then that big ket-thing-thingie zoomed in, and *ZWING* she pinned it to the wall," she said, accompanying her account with overwrought hand gestures.

The cog zipped around the ceiling, dodging around the fixtures making the sharp ticking laughter.

Satoshi's eyes widened and his ears flicked back at the gestures. "Yes, it looked like there was some kind of fight going on in here when I first arrived," he agreed.

At that moment, he ducked quickly as the two cogs flew at him, skimming right over his head.

"I...I'm glad no one was hurt," he added as he straightened again.

Cyrus slipped into the shop and threw a cursory glance about, somewhat relieved to see that there wasn't a large crowd of irritated people as there had been last time. That was good - probably meant nothing else had gone wrong for a while. He glanced toward the Satoshi for a moment, one ear pinning back. "Why would anyone be hurt?" he interjected.

Aana hovered along at his side, a few tendrils of mist winding their way through the air and eventually fading into the air.

Satoshi turned to regard the newcomer. "A cog that was here earlier seemed rather violent," he explained calmly. "Its bonded had to pin it to the wall with a knife, I believe."

"I don't think it was a fight, I think it was that ket-thi--er... big sprocket-like thing just saying hello," Ravi said mildly. "So, you've got these big sprocket things too. What are they?"

"Misteress, I am sure someone might be able to help you..."

"I don't think s- WHAHHHHH SLOW DOWN !!!!"

The fandangle managed to enter the forge as one of the doors closed, its now tiny bond clinging on one of the gears like if her life depended on it.

"SLOW DOOOWWWWWWWWNNNN !!!"

"Sorry !" She said as she stopped, Zero standing up.

"If Karma sees me, im gonna kill you. e.e"

Cyrus blinked a bit at the mention of homicidal fandangles. Sure, Gleam and Rikt were a bit psychotic, but they were sprockets. It was almost natural for those two.. "Well..that's.." He trailed off with a vague shrug, simply glad he hadn't been around to get in the thing's way.

Aana made a sound like rushing water and settled herself atop Cyrus's head, amusing herself with his hair for the time being.

"I really don't think it was going to hurt her!" Ravi said heatedly, annoyed that neither seemed to be paying attention to her. "I think it was just its way of saying hi, and seeing what kind of person she was."

"To be honest, Ravija... I have no real idea what they are," Satoshi said quietly. "I only received mine yesterday."

"See ? Let's go save my dignity. e.e;"

"But we have not looked yet, misteress.... Please calm down."

"Ill'd like to see you..." Zero mumbeled, looking around for someone she could reconize.

Satoshi blinked. "I see," he said. "I suppose that makes sense, if it's some kind of...violence cog?" He shrugged. His was based on light, and that seemed much safer and more logical to him.

Cyrus glanced at the fandangle that had just entered...along with the tiny woman... ...right. Don't stare; that's rude. That's what his mother always said, anyway. The teen reached up to tug on an ear out of nervous habit, though he only succeeded in knocking Aana off his head, and glanced towards Ravi. "Er..okay then. It was only saying hi," he mumbled, eyeing Ravi warily.

"Well, I mean, we have a wrath sprocket and a combat sprocket and a blade sprocket, and they all do those sorts of things, so it makes sense," Ravi said more reasonably.

Zero blinked, not quite sure if it was her that the person was talking to or not. Unfortunately, in this case, small did not equal invisible. "Uh, im Zero." She said. "And this is Wren."

"Hello."

"Hiiiiiiiii!" Ravi's cog said as it zipped by.

Satoshi waved a hand, his tail flicking once. "Greetings Zero. My name is Satoshi." He pointed up to a flashing green cog just as it bashed a corner against Ravi's cog. "And that is Tadashi."

"Pla~~~ay...." The colorful--and as yet unnamed--cog drifted down from the ceiling, having caught Tadashi and been caught multiple times already, and become bored with the experience. It lazily flopped down on Ravi's head and messed with her feathers.

"Hey," Ravi said, smiling at the new and tinier-than-her person as she swatted at the cog on her head. "I'm Ravi. Nice to meet you."

Aana lost interest in her bonded's hair as Ravi's cog zipped by and let out an exclamation of 'Hiii~!" herself. She darted away from Cyrus as though to follow, though lost interest in that as well and drifted towards the sprocket containers.

Cyrus shrugged and glanced at Zero again, still wondering over why she was so small. "Um..I'm Cyrus. And the purple fandangle over there," he gestured in Aana's direction, "is Aana."

"Well, ill'd go shake hands, but...." Zero sweatdropped. "A word of common advice - stay the ******** away from spell backlashes. I learnt that the wrong way last night."

"None of you would happen to know how to fix this, would you ?" Wren asked, which caused her bond to glare down.

"I told you, Wren ! He can fix it, but ill't take a few days !"

So they're called fandangles?" Ravi said curiously. "I didn't know that. How do you get one? I mean, this one likes me, so how much does it cost?"

The colorful cog snuggled up in her hair. "Want cleaning."

"Not now, I'm talking. "

Zero head-tilted. "So there's a few new ones, uh ? Yeah, that would be a fandangle. And they instinctively go with their owners, so if it decided to go with you, well... That's because its yours, really."

Satoshi eyed Zero curiously. "What did the spell do?" he asked before glancing at Ravi. "And I have no idea. Mine was a gift from my bonded Gaian. I didn't pay for it. Is that one not yours?"

"Made me that small." The reploid mumbeled. "Its a wierd spell... I think he ******** up midways and this happened."

"Cool, so it's mine!" She took it off her head and hugged it to her chest. "Your name's Aionios, okay?"

"Ai-o-ni-os." The cog 'tock'ed twice. "I am Aionios."

"Yes, you are." Ravi grinned at all the people. "This is neat. But I don't think Mom's going to be happy when I bring even more home."

Satoshi nodded gravely. "I know something about magic." He raised a hand and suddenly blinked out of view, becoming invisible for a few moments before appearing again. "But I don't know any spells that can grow a person to a larger size, or make them small."

He glanced at Ravi, ear twitching in amusement.

"I can only make my hands warm, otherwise I'd try something. It's really useful in winter though, since I never need gloves," she said cheerfully as Aionios climbed back up on her head and started nesting.

Satoshi cocked his head curiously at Ravi, his own Fandangle perching in his hair. "Make them warm?" he asked. He held up a hand again and a flame erupted from the palm. "Like this?"

...Okay, now Zero felt out of place even more.

"And I... can't even do anything. Sounds like just my luck... Thanks anyway." She sighed.

Cyrus leaned against the counter and eyed Satoshi's displays of magic, arching a brow curiously. "All I can do are a few water tricks." Certainly nothing useful like turning invisible and creating fire.

Satoshi coloured slightly, lowering his hands and extinguishing the flame. "I apologize," he said. "I didn't mean to seem like I was showing off. I was just demonstrating."

"Aw... that's neat," Ravi said, sounding disappointed. "All I can do is this..." She held out one hand and closed her eyes tightly. Heat distortion became visible rising above her hand, and waves of increasingly hot air began radiating off her body. When she opened her eyes, she looked tired and wobbled a bit on her feet before sitting down on the carpet suddenly.

"Hey, you're okay ?!?" Zero spread her wings, going to the girl.

Cyrus blinked at Satoshi and pricked an ear forward. "It's alright. I'd probably show off myself if I could do neat things like..." He trailed off suddenly, distracted by Ravi sitting so suddenly. He frowned and moved closer, leaning down to offer her a hand. "Are you alright?"

"Hehe, oh yeah, I'm fine. Mom doesn't like me doing that, since she's always afraid I'm going to catch on fire or something." She giggled.

Satoshi watched closely, but didn't join the others around Ravi. If she were really hurt, and there was something he could do that they couldn't, he was sure he'd be able to tell.

He shrugged a bit and straightened again, stuffing his hands into his pockets. "Well maybe you should listen to her. Doesn't seem too usefull if it's gonna make you fall over like that all the time."

"Yeah, better be careful." Zero nodded, landing on Satoshi's shoulder, as Wren left for some sproket-seeing.

"Well, it's not all the time, just when I try to show off," she said sheepishly. "Besides, I think the carpet feels neat." Ravi laughed.

Satoshi blinked at Zero, his ears flicking back. He wasn't quite used to all of these small creatures invading his personal space, though he was trying VERY hard to get used to it.

He tilted his head at the girl on the floor, shrugging again and turning to Aana. "C'mon, you. We were only stopping in for a minute on the way to the arcade." He glanced back at the other people, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. "Guess I'll see you later," he said, already moving to hold the door open.

The cog let out a brief whining sound as she drifted toward Cyrus, the sound cutting off as the door swung shut behind them.

Zero didn't seem to catch his uneaseness as she just... sat there. "Still, better be careful and all..."

Bye!" she said cheerfully to Cyrus as he left. "I mean, I think it's pretty silly that Mom thinks I'm going to catch on fire. You can make fire on your hand, and no one worries about you lighting up like a candle," Ravija said, talking to Satoshi. "But I am pretty careful. All these people around who can do all this really neat stuff, like actual fire, and I feel... I dunno." She shrugged, and played with the carpet a bit.

Aionios appeared unnerved by Ravi's change in attitude and rocked uncomfortably on her head. "Happy..." it whined. "Want cleaning."

"Oh, okay. So, you clean them like sprockets?" she asked, looking at the two older Fandangle owners.

"No one worries about me lighting myself on fire because I've had a great deal of training so I don't." Satoshi said with a smile. "I'm a little older than you are, I think." His ears pricked up as he glanced at the clock. "And I must go. Perhaps I will be back later." He gestured to his Fandangle and it landed on his shoulder, then lifted Zero carefully in his hands, placing her on Ravi's shoulder. "It was good meeting you."

"Good meeting you!" Tadashi echoed, the balls in its face whirling happily.

Being carted around that way was WIERD, but Zero let him. "See you !" She chimed. "With the cloth and screwdriver, yeah. I can show you if you want me to."

"Nice meeting you too. Bye!" she waved. "I'd really appreciate it. I only got the sprockets a week ago, so I've almost got the hang of it." Ravi grinned. "I saw where Jerava got them from when I bought the sprockets, so I think I could find the store's supply of cleaning stuff. I mean, it's everclean and everfull, so it's not like I'm wasting anything? Right? Right." She got up as smoothly as she could and walked behind the counter where she started looking for the supplies. "I hope no one comes in and thinks I actually work here..."

Naming a Sprocket
Satoshi paced back and forth, tail lashing as he regarded the pink sprocket bobbing back and forth in the middle of the room. "I have to name you," he growled, eyeing it fiercely.

The sprocket, needing love for its very existence, and capable of sensing its presence or absence, could easily tell that Satoshi's irritation was mostly feigned. It trilled at him and loop-the-looped.

Tadashi floated up from the desk, turning lazily. "So name it," he said calmly. "I don't understand why you're getting so worked up about the whole thing."

Satoshi gestured generally. "I've had it longer than I've had you, and I named you right away. I'm a terrible sprocket owner, Tadashi."

"Nonsense," Tadashi replied. He floated over to the sprocket, which glommed onto him instantly, trilling with pleasure. "It's very affectionate... maybe we can name it that?"

"'Affectionate'?" Satoshi asked skeptically. "That's not a name, it's an adjective."

"At least I suggested something," Tadashi replied impishly, balls whirling.

"How about...Caramel?" Satoshi said, eyeing the way it stuck to Tadashi.

"Kara-Mel?" Tadashi replied, the difference in pronounciation subtle. "Isn't that two girl's names?"

"Whatever," Satoshi said, giving a wave. "Kara-Mel is a fine name." He addressed the sprocket directly. "What do you think of Kara-Mel?"

"Love it!" the sprocket chirped.

"...Of course you do," Tadashi replied, chuckling softly.
