Kele Strife looked out over the skyline of dreary Chasm City. Whiping rain off her forehead and the screen of her eyepiece, she placed her sniper rifle on the edge of the roof, which was slightly elevated. The eyepiece turned a brilliant red as it synchronized with the rifle. Kele peered at a window on the fifth floor of the apartment building across the street twenty feet below her. She got her first visual of the target, Jonathon Toli; a tree stump of a man. Kele's fingers wrapped around the familiar grip. "Don't fret, love; it'll only hurt for a second," Kele whispered. She breathed out evenly, held her breath, and squeezed the trigger. The faint sound of shattering glass reached the rooftop through the drizzling rain. "What a shame, for scum like you." Pulling out a peice of paper, barely legible from the running ink, and crosses off Toli's name. Milagre, Kele's ocelot, rubbed against her owner's legs. "You did well. We should leave before the authorities arrive..." the cat mused. Kele bent and stroked her companion's wet fur. Kele laughed humorlessly, "I dare them to catch me."

Raya was about to answer Jared, when her phone vibrated on her desk. She tapped her ear piece, "Talk to me." She continued filling out the paperwork as the young receptionist told her the situation. Raya sighed when the girl finished, "You'v got to be kidding me. Alright, I'm on my way." She hung up and stood, "Jared, Achak, you'r with me. We'v got a dead guy, real important fat man. Jonathon Toki, or something like that.""It's Toli, Raya. Jonathon Toli." The tiger jumped off of the couch and stretched, "Can I drive, this time?"Raya shook her head, "No, Shai. My car, my wheel." She walked to the door and grabbed her jacket, "Let's go, I want to be home by dinner."Shai padded over to her, "You cook your own dinner." They left the room.Shai≎≎≎≎≎≎≎┈━═

Jared grinned. He was delighted to get a mission so early in the morning, especially when he was fully awake. When he was fully awake, the reaction wouldn't be so cheerful. "On my way, Chief!" he answered, then leaped off the desk, following Raya out the door. Achak left from her perch on Shai's back and settled herself on Jared's shoulder. Jared grinned at her, overhearing the small talk between Raya and her animal. "Hey, how come you've never had an urge to drive."
Achak looked at him solemnly, her beady eyes grave, yet slightly tinted with humor. "And tell me, Jared, can you see me driving?"
Jared looked her up and down. She was quite a small bird, about a bit larger than a parakeet, with slender, delicate wings and the classic bird's feet. Even if she wanted to drive, it wouldn't have been possible. "Good point."
It was when they settled down in Jared's police car did Jared finally think about the case they were given. He frowned slightly. "Hey, the dude's name is Jonathon Toli... right? Wasn't that the man we met a few weeks ago?"
The swallow-tailed kite nodded her head. It looked rather silly on her. "Yes, the businessman we encountered at the bar. Not a very charming human, as I recall. Sad to hear he's passed on. He must've gotten on someone's bad side."
Jared shook his head solemnly and murmured, "These days, you don't need to get on someone's bad side to get killed."

Don't fret, love...Kele hung her legs over the side of her new perch: a bell tower three blocks away from her target. The rain slid through her blonde hair and dripped off the red tips into the abysmal street below her. Grinning, she and Milagre watched the beautiful red and blue lights flash as they raced toward the stiff's apartment. "I wonder if they'll find my calling card on the bullet..." Kele murmered absently. Milagre laughed and replied, "I hope so, you worked hard on finding a place that wouldn't destroy it on impact." Kele contemplated this for a moment, wondering if any of her marks had been noticed. It would be hard not to, but she wasn't sure exactly how thorough investigations were. "You are known in this city, of that I have no doubt, but we'll see soon the extent of your influences," Milagre assured her, knowing her owner well. Kele smiled and nodded, then returned her attention to the streets below. ...it'll only hurt for a second."

Cyprus opened the gate to his library. It was nicely placed between South and Westminster, and he got plenty of visitors who would look for all sorts of things. He might just have been a bookseller but he knew a lot of things, the hot topic of gossip between some of the more well known people was the death of some businessman. Toli was all he knew of the mans name, but he knew that the Chasm City Police Force would be on the scene in no time.
Cyprus hoped that Jared would come in, he was good company. A bit odd and not very good at being on time if not for his pet, but was a nice guy overall. "Why do i keep doing this?"
"Cause you have nothing better to do?" Said his own pet animal, a white wolf named Aries. he had been with him since, a while.
"thanks Aries. Why don't you go do something useful?" Cyprus muttered poking with his boots the wolf currently laying on a pile of blankets behind his desk.
"And that would be?" Aries asked, rasing an eyebrow. "Not like there's much to do here." he said and laid his head back down on the blankets
"Make sure no one is stealing any of these precious, precious books."
"Ummm, no." Aries said as he closed his eyes.
"You bum." Cyprus said and tossed a ball of paper at him
"Yep. Deal with it." Aries said as he smacked the ball away with his tail and flopped over onto his side.

Raya got into her sleek, black car. It was unmarked, didn't even have the tell-tale red and blue lights. She loved the car almost as much as she loved Shai, and wouldn't give it up for anything except for her partner's life. They sped towards the crime scene, Raya blasting her horn. SHe pulled up to the huge building and took the elevator up. When she got off, she walked over to the CSI guys, "What'v we got?""Dead rich guy. Shot from the window over there. High-powered sniper rifle." Raya crouched next to the man, looking at the gun-shot wound. She snapped on a pair of gloves and tilted the man's head, "A clean shot. A beautiful shot, truly." Shai cocked her head, "And the bullet?" A younger woman held it down in front of her. Shai noticed the symbol on it, "Look Raya, same bullet as lat month. Look at this insignia." Raya came over and examined it, "Who is this man?"Shai shook her head, "Woman. A man could never have as steady a hand as that." She trotted to the window, looking up, "The shot came from there, let's go take a look." Shai≎≎≎≎≎≎≎┈━═

Jared trotted after Raya, who, once arriving at the crime scene, walked briskly to the officers already there. They showed the pair of them to the body. He was exactly as Jared had remembered. That is, without the puddle of blood around him and the clean gaping hole through his head. Jared watched, a few feet away, as Raya examined the murder. Achak, as always, was perched in his hair, studiously keeping her eyes shut. Though they were officers of the Police Force, she didn't take to blood very well.
Jared heard Raya almost complimenting the shot, and snorted. "Beautiful? Then I'd hate to see what she thinks is ugly."
Achak pecked him on the head, urging him to be quiet. He rubbed his head ruefully and pouted, watching as Raya and Shai investigated things. He perked up as they seemed to reach a conclusion, Shai trotting over to the window. He immediately stepped foward, and Achak nuzzled herself in his tussled hair. "Did someone say 'take a look?' Y'know, because I'm totally there!"
"Yes, especially when sneaking peaks at the random beauty passing by." A mutter from Jared's head, to which he turned bright red. "And you say I'm unprofessional." He brightened up and said again, "Anyways, I'm right with you! Lead the way, Chief!"

"Don't fret, love...Seeing movement near the window of Toli's apartment, Kele sighed; it was time for her to leave her masterpeice behind. She cast one last glance at the crimescene before slipping down the fire escape. The years of parkour had payed off since she slipped through the air like an elegant shadow and landed with grace between her perch and the building next to it. Kele strode to the street and began down the sidewalk in the opposite direction. A sign caught her eye, some bookstore she'd never heard of. Kele ducked into the shop and out of the rain. Within the building, she wondered through the room, taking in the sights. "Wow... big selection," she whispered in the oppressing silence. Finding her way into the back of the store, she saw an enterance to another room labeled, "the cage." Curious, Kele wondered in, Milagre cautiously on her heels. it'll only hurt for a second."

Cyprus had fallen asleep at his desk as he had been writing part of his own book. Having a riveting dream in which he was being eaten by a gummybear before eating his way back out. and that bear was delicious. He jerked up at the sound of the chime, before quickly looking around for who had entered and only then noticed he had drooled a little in his sleep.
"nice going" Aries said as he walked from around the counter. "i had to watch the door for like 15 minutes, and by the way, you got a customer in the cage."
"15 minutes?" Cyprus grumbled rubbing the back of his neck with one hand and sleep from his eyes with the other. "And i'll deal with the cage monster later."
"No, someone in the cage. Wake up you bufoon." Aries said before headbutting Cyprus off his chair.
"fine fine, I'm up. I'll go see what they want." Cyprus stood up and strecthed out his limbs, getting sleep out of them. He turned around the corner and walked into the doorway for the cage. A girl was standing there, an eyepiece, so something must have happened to her eye. Blonde hair, and a cat, a rather big cat, not lion or something that large, but decent sized.
"Something I can help you with miss?" Cyprus asked as Aries came around the corner and stood next to him, just in case things got ugly.
{( Woops! my bad, fixed it though, gotta be more careful with these names.)}

Raya raised an eyebrow at Jared, "Always glad to have you around, Jared. You'r so...." She searched for the word.Shai helped her out, "Enthusiastic?""Aye, that's the one." She lead the way down to the street, then up onto the roof of the adjacent building. She walked over to the spot where the sniper must have been, "What was the point? What was accomplished here."Shai grunted, "A dead rich man." She sniffed, "A feline. A woman and a cat.""Know what kind of cat?" She crouched down, found a tuft of fur, "A big cat. Not like you, but not domesticated either. We'll take it in for DNA analysis." She put the fur into a plastic bag Shai≎≎≎≎≎≎≎┈━═

"Don't fret, love... Kele startled and spun, an arm snaking protectively around the canvas bag containg her rifle that was slung over her shoulder. A man with white hair, although he was slightly younger than her, stood in the doorway of the Cage. She smiled as innocently as she could manage. "Oh, I... was just curious as to what exactly is sold back here," she said. Kele's flustered mind threw in a bit of flirt. Clustrophobia set in and she began to feel the need to escape. ...it'll only hurt for a second."

Cyprus saw how quickly she turned and how her hand went to the canvas bag on her shoulder. probably contained a weapon of some sort. "The more valuable books, such as first editions, final copies of books, anciet tomes, and books on aything else you wish to know." as he said this he gestured to many sections of the Cage in which books were placed. "but try to look at the sign first." he said as he pointed to the sign that was right at eye level, bolted into the entranceway of the Cage.
"So, is there anything i can help you with?" Cyprus put his hands into his pockets and started fiddling with his keys. "Your not a regular and this must be your first time here." he said since he knew it was true. He had a good memory and her face was not familiar. "And the name is Cyprus, nice to meet ya." he said and held out his hand for a shake.

"Don't fret, love...She smiled and took Cyprus' hand. "Call me Kele," she replied, feeling slightly less panicked. She considered his description of the genres. "Anything...?" Kele thought aloud. "You wouldn't happen to have any books on this city's history, would you?" Her mind had already begun dreaming of all the stealthy crimes she could pull; heists, assassinations... she was practically drooling. Snapping out of her fantasies, she scanned the room for a history section. However, Kele's gaze soon returned to Cyprus due to her flittering mind and inability to focus on one sign for more than a second. ...it'll only hurt for a second."
