Let those who face me know....

Karonashi looked up slowly when David entered the chamber from above - making the Gennin wonder where that hole he had just come from led to - and waved weakly at him. He saw the younger, yet more powerful shinobi raise his eyebrows at the bone shell that Karo had just broken out of a few minutes ago, then the boy's eyes slid up to him and seemed to flicker in recognition of something. Then the Jounin tossed him a ration bar which he caught easily and tore open, with a nod of gratitude.
"Sorry about the bone in the floor boss man, I'll take care of it as soon as I get some strength back." As Karo began chewing the ration bar - it really was nasty to the taste, even if it was chock-full of vital nutrients and whatnot, but he forced himself to continue eating it. He perked up a bit as he munched through the disgusting bar, and moved a few steps closer to his sensei.
"I managed to get the Sunagakure technique down. Got a bit interesting though. What happened with you sir?" Karo tilted his head to one side as he pushed more of the bar into his mouth and bit it off.

Let those who face me know....

When several hours passed by with no response form the reading shinobi, Karonashi frowned. It was unusual for David to so completely ignore something - whatever had happened, it had obviously upset the teen greatly. The older shinobi shruugged slightly then turned around to the spot where he had protected himself earlier, where the bone cocoon was still embedded into the floor. While he couldn't do much with the bone as he was now, there was something he could do. He knelt over the bone and pressed one hand against it, and began pushing his chakra into the hard material. Within moments his chakra and bone manipulation began breaking the bone apart, rendering it into tiny fragments that settled into the sand with nary a sound.
With that done, Karo turned his gaze back to David. His instructor was still busy reading, which irritated the shinobi, before he threw off the unreasonable anger.
"Sensei, I'm going to go train, so I'll talk to you later." He strode over to one of the walls and burrowed into it using the Sunagakure jutsu, and began heading upwards. He had no idea where in the city he'd appear, but at least he'd be able to practice without bothering David any more.
...that the Bone King is coming for their lives!

About half an hour after Karo left, David's head suddenly snapped upright, life flickering back into what had been dead eyes. He had fully intended to speak with his student, but the second the boy had sat down his mind had slammed into what could only be considered a feedback loop. He had conveniently chosen to start his reading with a recent ANBU report, specifically details about what had been going on in the tower on the day of the attack. What he saw would normally have given him pause, but with all that had happened in the last while, David had been running on adrenaline alone. After reading that page, his mind had automatically started looping through possibilities, as it always did when he saw something new. But this time, as soon as that died down, and the adrenaline wore off, what had just happened finally completely set in.

He was kazekage. David, the boy who a few years ago had been hated and feared by half the village, was the new kage, by unanimous choice of the council at that. With the drain on his mind and body from the events, he had automatically shut down, and gone into a pseudo meditation to restore himself. And now, finally awake, he chuckled. Oh, if that woman could see him now. If she were still alive to face this reality. He couldn't even imagine what she would do.

Looking down at the paper in his hand, David frowned. He really didn't feel like doing anymore reading now. He had probably read plenty now, he knew how the village was running. Now, he needed to be strong enough to lead it. But, before that, he needed to find his wayward student. He hadn't meant to leave the other boy hanging that way. Yes, he'd find the boy, and finish with training. Then perhaps they could go on a mission. He hadn't had any real exercise in too long now.

Standing up, David dropped the papers on his sand table. He would leave them here. It was probably even safer here for them than in the vaults, and he was sure there were ANBU observing the hole now anyways. Rolling up his large scroll of jutsu, he stuffed it into his satchel, picking up the whole assembly and walking into the wall. Karo had wanted training, so the best place to look for him would be the training facility.

Entering his hole by walking straight through the outer wall, David walked directly over to his "table" in the center of the room. Luckily the torches he'd set up were still burning, so he didn't have to worry about light. Reaching the table, David found that all the classified documents he had left on it were gone, replaced by a note addressed from the ANBU, asking him not to leave sensitive materials lying around. The security signs on the note all matched up with what he'd been shown, so he didn't worry too much about that.

Dropping his satchel beside the table, David pulled out the large scroll of sand jutsu, rolling it open on the table so he could see all the lowest ranking jutsu, the table growing longer to accommodate the extra length. After waiting two hours for Karo earlier that day, David had decided not to bother waiting for him to learn the rest of his jutsu. He could teach the boy later, if he ever redeveloped his interest in learning from David.

So, he had decided to start at the beginning, with the first jutsu on the scroll. Which turned out to be one he already knew. Next one then. Zen Sand, a technique that would apparently change the color of any sand it was used on. Reading the technique over, David found that it was originally developed to disguise sand clones, but could be used for many other things as well, such as making a clone look like someone else entirely by changing the color, or disguising sand as something else entirely, such as rock, or even steel. A decidedly useful, in the right situation, technique.

Setting the scroll aside, David scooped up a handful of sand from the floor, deciding to start small. Focusing on it, he made it float, taking on the shape of an apple and setting it on the table. Flipping through a very short set of seals as shown by the scroll, he flooded the "apple" with a tiny portion of his chakra. As he watched, the stem of the apple turned a darker brown, and then red began to seep into the skin, until the whole apple looked, well, delicious. Anyone would think it was real, given only sight. The texture was still sand though, unfortunately, so it'd only pass as a low quality apple, little good for pranks.

Pranks? It'd been awhile since he'd considered those. Maybe he really was getting better. Was it the job and authority, or just the fact that the woman who had kept him in such an angry state constantly was dead? Food for thought. Regardless, he had that technique down pat.

Description:
A notable weakness of sand jutsu is that they retain the color of sand. Even a clone does not take on the coloration of it’s creator. Thus, a jutsu was created to counter that weakness. Named for the colored sands used in Zen Gardens, the Zen Sand jutsu changes the color of any sand to whatever the jutsu user wishes, allowing them to better disguise a sand clone, or even make it different colors entirely. The technique is capable of changing the equivalent of one C rank jutsu worth of sand at a time. (Cannot be used on another person’s sand.)

Turning back to the scroll, David read on to the next technique. Suna Tegakari Fukikesu, the sand track eraser. The technique was apparently supposed to make small bursts of sand wherever you stepped in the desert, to hide your tracks from anyone trying to follow you. It seemed kind of useless to David, since when he walked over loose sand he never left tracks anyways, since the sand reacted to him, and didn't let him sink in like normal people.

But, he wasn't going exclusively for useful at the moment, but rather for completion. Who knew, maybe he'd find a use for the technique eventually. Channeling chakra into his feet as the jutsu dictated, David began walking backwards in circles around the large room. At first, nothing happened. His control over the sand kept him from sinking in, so the jutsu wouldn't activate. Releasing that to let him sink started leaving tracks, and as he watched it seemed as if whenever he took a step, the sand 'hopped', scattering itself again. As if the chakra was filling up the hole and making the it impossible for the sand to compact.

After two laps around the room, David stopped, satisfied that the jutsu was working. These low ranking jutsu were easy. Leaving aside his natural advantages, these were jutsu he should have learned a long time ago. There was no comparison in difficulty between these, and the Sabaku Bunshin.

Description:
A simple but effective technique for those who are fleeing through the desert. Channeling chakra to their feet, this allows the user to generate small bursts of sand with every step. By leaving behind these small bits of sand, the user of this technique is able to erase their tracks. The sand wipes away any trace of a footprint left on any object and then becomes impossible to distinguish from normal sand and soil in the area. Other signs of passing, such as breaking twigs and disturbing plants will remain unchanged. This technique is also not effective at stopping anyone tracking by smell.

Turning back to the scroll yet again, David scanned the next jutsu. Sand compaction, a jutsu designed mainly to improve the amounts of sand you could carry on your body. Skimming the descriptions, David found that it was very much like what he'd used to fit so much sand into his weights originally. Just compress the sand using chakra, until it's shrunk down enough to double, or even triple, the amount in a single space, and then leave the chakra in it to hold that form. It was something he'd done already with his special powers, but this version looked much more efficient.

Scooping up a pile of sand from the ground, he let it hover in front of him, forming it into a ball about a foot thick. Running through a short set of seals, the boy flooded chakra into the ball, a thin shell surrounding the outside of it and pulling inwards. The ball slowly began to shrink, inches at a time it became smaller and smaller, until it was only half it's original size. And then he pushed even harder. The jutsu was said to be more effective the more control you had over the sand, and nobody had the level of control he did. Sure enough, the ball continued to shrink, finally reaching it's limit as it stopped at a solid four inches thick.

David smiled, allowing the ball to fall into his hand. That was, amazing. With that, his simple weights would hold far more sand, and weigh even less than he felt now. So it was without a second thought that the boy allowed sand to fly at him from all over the room, growing the entire room by a small amount as it all flew up his sleeves and his pantlegs. The sand in his weights ceased to be sandstone as he had done previously to hold it so tightly, as the new jutsu applied itself, crushing it down further than ever. Soon enough, his weights were full again, but holding far more sand than before, without looking any different at all.

Suna Kojinmari [Sand Compaction]
Rank: E
Type: Ninjutsu | Supplementary
Element: Sand
Description:
This technique was created when the lack of an abundance of sand being available was recognized as a severe hindrance to invading sand shinobi. While gourds of sand could be used to allow the user to take sand with them, the amounts contained within a normal gourd were insufficient for higher-level techniques. This technique does not eliminate the need for gourds, but rather it complements it. By using chakra to forcefully pack sand together, the user can hold a vast amount more sand inside a normal gourd, allowing them to double its regular capacity. Additionally, as the sand is kept held in place by the users chakra, the sand does not add any extra weight to the gourd. If the user has any chakra control benefits, they can compress their sand even more, allowing their gourd to hold even more. Base – 1x – One benefit – 2x – Two benefits – 3x, and so on. Sand based benefits in particular, such as Elemental Control Sand, count as two benefits by default. This technique is passive after it is activated, costing no chakra, but it's effects can not be stacked.

Looking back to the scroll as soon as he finished refilling his weights, David scanned through the rest of the E ranked jutsu, finding that he knew all that were left there. So he moved on to the D ranks.

The first on the list was Suna Shikaku, a jutsu designed to send out a chakra pules through sand, acting as a sonar that would tell where anyone touching the sand was, or if there was anything hidden in the sand. All in all, a useful technique, and actually the one he'd planned on learning with Karo earlier that day. The application was simple. Send out a pulse of chakra through the sand, and then let it return to you after it reached your limit, and read what it said. Keep it up consistently and it would be as if you had eyes in the sand.

Putting his hands together into the seal shown in the scroll, David charged the jutsu, and sent out his pules of chakra. An instant later, his mind flooded with data. He could see the tunnel leading up out of the ground into the tower, the steel halls of the ANBU facility further down below him, though his vision didn't pierce that deeply. Directly above him he could feel the people in the marketplace walking along, and he could see worms crawling through the soil below the earth.

It was... Amazing. He loved it. But soon enough, it was over as the chakra he'd given it ran out. He'd definitely be using that one more though. The possibilities were endless, beyond even just that higher level of awareness it brought.

Suna Shikaku [Sand Sight]
Rank: D
Type: Ninjutsu | Supplementary
Element: Sand
Description:
Sand Sight is a technique that allows the user to “See” through sand. This is accomplished in two different ways. One way, is that of a sense of sorts. The user is able to feel people moving across or through the sand within their range, and even pinpoint their general location. The second way, is that of literal vision. The user is capable of peering into the sand itself, and seeing things below the surface. This can be used for anything from spotting people below, to finding caves hidden by the sand. The way this works, is that the user makes a single hand seal, sending a pulse of chakra outward from them. The chakra travels through the sand, bouncing off of other objects and returning, much like sonar. Once the signal returns, it forms together into a comprehensible image the user understands as sight. The technique also works well for seeing through sand in the air, such as sandstorms, making it invaluable for crossing the desert safely.

While the technique can be used to see through sand techniques, it only works against the user’s own techniques, with the exception of those that make sandstorms. In any other case, the opposing chakra in the sand will repel the chakra pulse, making it impossible to see through.

As the user’s rank grows, so too does their ability with this technique.
D - 15 feet
C - 25 feet
B – 30 feet
A - 35 feet
S - 50 feet
Ichibi Host - 100 feet.
The Ichibi host has greater power over this technique, due to the simple fact that he is more in tune with the sand itself than anyone else could ever be.
This is a passive technique. Meaning it can remain active as long as the user is able to supply it chakra, regardless of what else the user does. Activation costs D rank chakra, and every post after that costs one point, including the final post.
Chakra control bonuses increase the range visible by one rank, excluding Ichibi. If your rank is maxed out and you have more bonuses, you can restart the cycle by adding D rank distance.

Quickly turning back to the scroll, since he was on a roll learning these low ranking, yet still useful, jutsu, David skimmed to the next on the list. The last time he'd managed to train this much was... He'd never been able to train this much at once. But the last time he'd come close was during the chuunin exams. Nobody was around to bother him, and the only thing he had to do between the tests was train. Or deal with the annoying situations that still managed to crop up, but he'd spent most of his time training or meditating.

The next jutsu on the list, was Suna Shuriken. Which was exactly what it implied, a jutsu to make shuriken from sand. It was useful enough he supposed, if he ever used the flying weapons, but he couldn't remember a time when he had. Ah well, he was going for completion here, so he'd do it.

Scooping up a handful of sand from the ground, David channeled his chakra through it, compacting it and shaping it into the generic four pointed star of a shuriken. Once it was shaped, he flattened it, grinding at the edges with his chakra until it was as sharp as it was hard. After a couple minutes perfecting the item, he turned and threw it into the wall, where it stuck nicely. Perfect. Now he could move on. It would be a useful jutsu he supposed, if he had occasion to use it. It could after all make for a nice sneak attack if he filled an area with sand. Or was in the desert, as he was most of the time. A sword would be more useful though, but he didn't see a jutsu for that. Maybe it was in a different scroll? This one was old after all.

The suna shuriken jutsu does exactly what it sounds like, creates shuriken from sand. This can be done one of two ways, picking up the sand by hand and forming it into shuriken, and then throwing it like normal, or the subtler version of making the shuriken form within a source of sand, and launch themselves. Both versions cost only one point per shuriken created, and can form a maximum of eight shuriken. The first method, throwing them by hand, can be used without handseals, while the other requires a single seal.

Back to the scroll again, David skipped over one jutsu, since he already knew it, moving directly to the the next. Sand Shark. A jutsu that created small shark like fish out of sand, that would swim through the sand like water and bit onto his enemies. Fun.

Running through the seals, David put his hands on the floor, channeling chakra into it, shaping the fish he wanted to make beneath the sand, focusing on an image, first the shape of the fish, long and sleek, with a single fin sticking out the top, and of course more below. Sharp teeth meant for ripping and tearing into a target, and scales that slid through the water like nothing else.

With the image solidly in his head, he pulsed his chakra, releasing the jutsu. Immediately four small fish leapt from the sand a few feet in front of him, chasing each other about the room as he mentally directed them. Across the floor, one lap around, up the walls and across the ceiling. He thought about activating the sight jutsu again and sending them into the market, but wisely chose not to, dismissing the jutsu as the sharks leapt at each other, biting down and dispersing into sand. If nothing else, they would be good for creating a little extra chaos on the battlefield. As if it wouldn't be chaotic enough with some of the ideas David had.

The next two jutsu on the scroll were more he already knew. Suna Tsume and Daisan no Me. Both useful jutsu that he'd never actually ended up using. His last real fight had been against Konaga Shinji in the chuunin exams. Since then he'd been in a massive battle against a monster, in which he only used a few jutsu to help pin the beast and bring it down. Those would have been useless there. And a couple spars with academy students to test their abilities, neither of which were a good place to bring out jutsu, even D ranks. He really needed some exercise.

The third jutsu down, was the Suna no Yoroi, an armor of sand that could greatly enhance the wearer's defense. To use it, he just needed to coat his entire body in sand, making a shell the shape of himself, and enhancing it with chakra. Easy enough. Holding a single seal, David stomped on the floor, and sand began streaming up his body, first covering his feet, then his legs, stomach, chest, arms, neck, and finally his head. As it ran up his body the color changed in the same order, changing to match the clothing and skin beneath it, as if it wasn't even there.

David blinked as the jutsu completed. This felt, incredibly strange. The feeling of being completely covered in something that may as well be invisible. He opened his mouth, glad to find that that still worked, as well as his eyes. Apparently none of his orifices were subject to the sand coating, thankfully. After a few minutes of experimentation, moving around this way and that, David began to get used to the odd feeling, and decided to keep the armor on for now. He couldn't feel any real drain from maintaining it, so why not?

With seven new jutsu under his belt, David found himself growing bored with training. This had been, quite literally, the longest training session he'd had in his life. He'd picked up several new jutsu that he found he rather liked, and would definitely be using eventually, so it was also the most profitable session yet too.

But, he was the kage now, and he had to tend to those duties as well. So, rolling up the scroll of jutsu, he stuffed it back into his bag, and pulled out the file he'd received from the gate guard instead, skimming it over. There had been an unusual number of foreign guests at the gate earlier, and they were apparently now under the watch of Etsushi. Before he could worry that that might not be the best diplomatic decision, a grin slid over his face. They were immigrants. That was perfect then. And then, finally, at the end of the report he found the men's names. One was Jin, a special jounin like himself. Nothing really interesting sounding about him, except the reported reactions of those in the area, and the fact he showed up separately from the other, despite both being from the same place. The fact the two didn't even recognize each other was a bit strange too...

Skipping that though, he did recognize the second name. He recognized it very well in fact, and the slight grin he'd had before returned, along with a manic gleam in his eye. Konaga Shinji. The boy he'd fought in the chuunin exams, the best fight in his life, and in his opinion, despite that of the event judges, a draw. Shinji had struck with what could have been a fatal blow, but David felt it would never have hit, thanks to his own 'attack', which had. Both boys had walked away safely, but only Shinji had to go to the medics. He'd heard that Shinji had gone on to fight in the final round too, though he hadn't stuck around to see it. And now he was here, looking for residence? This, would be fun.

Standing up, David stashed the report back in his bag, shouldered the bag once more, and left the hole, walking right out through the wall as usual. Etsushi would likely have taken them to her house, so that was where he would look for Shinji. And really, who cared about the other guy?

Enter from Tower of the Kazekage

Perhaps it was a good thing that the fall had been so sudden. It was definitely a good thing that David managed to level out with the group as quickly as she did. Sora had only managed to get out a very short scream of surprise before she found herself supported within something round and gritty. She remained shaken, but at least she was in contact with something solid. Free-falling would have meant death for her, and that would mean that the Rokubi was going to force his way through somehow to try and prevent the death. Now that it was obvious Sora was somehow being protected, though, the Rokubi's fear wasn't as strong as it would have normally been.

Of course, besides keeping the demon inside her contained, Sora's main worry wasn't about herself. Rather, it was her friends. Still, though, while she fell, Sora couldn't get a single sound through her lips. She was far too preoccupied with keeping the Raijuu from causing her entire body to emit sparks like a faulty outlet. As the ball slowed down, though, the demon managed to calm itself. Although, it still remained wary of being in darkness. Sora found herself able to relax, just as her hair did. While she managed to keep herself from lighting up the interior of the sand ball with electric sparks, her hair had still risen with the pent up electricity within her body.

Only when she, Kensei, and Laxus were released from their sphere of safety did the Raijuu finally manage to quiet down once more. The first thing the girl did upon seeing light was to turn to Laxus and Kensei and ask both of them, "Are you guys alright." The second thing she did was look to David and then follow his eyes upwards. With a gasp and a breathless "W-woah," Sora stared at the vertical, glass-lined tunnel with pure awe. She could guess what had created the tunnel and then what had generated the heat to turn the sand to glass. Still, the sheer power that it required amazed her. the girl thought. Only then did she feel fear at the power that had created such a beautiful sigh. A shiver ran through Sora once more, but she gulped it down and re-focused herself. As David left them behind, Sora turned to Kensei, waiting to see if he had any ideas on what to do. She had a few, like finding a way to get out of a glass pit, but she would wait for Kensei to speak his ideas first. He had that privilege as team leader. Plus, Sora wasn't sure just how to get out of the hole even if she wanted to.User Image

Kensei got off of the floor and dusted the bits of sand off of his body. He looked around only to find himself in a pit made of glass. He also noticed David leaving the pit leaving the kumo nin in the pit. "This guy can't be serious." He mumbled to himself while moving to touching the glass only to move it away shortly after feeling the heat. Kensei looked towards Sora after she asked if he was alright. "Honestly, not really. I left my bag upstairs which I'm pretty sure is destroyed now. And I currently have sand in places it shouldn't be." Kensei said in an annoyed tone. "I bet you 20 bags of candy Jishaku did this." He stood quietly for a couple of seconds and looked at Sora and Laxus and back at the glass. "Okay we have a couple choices. 1) chakra walk on the glass and climb out of the pit. Or 2) I could summon, but it only seats two so someone will have to ride talon." Kensei looked directly at Laxus after saying this. He was already snatched by the bird he was talking about once and he wasn't planning on doing it again for a while. "That's just my idea though. If you have something better I'm all ears."

Unsure of what to make about betting 20 bags of candy, Sora simply looked confused as she hugged her shoulder bag, which contained her bag of candy, protectively. She didn't have 20 bags of candy, her parents would never allowed it. Furthermore, she felt that Jishaku was the one to do this as well, and she didn't want to lose 20 bags of candy even if she did have that many.

She did, however, chime in when Kensei suggested escape routes, "The sand is too loose and the glass is too slippery and too hot to chakra walk on, I think. Maybe if it wasn't perfectly vertical it would work, but it's perfectly vertical." Sora looked at the pretty walls but did not touch as she spoke out her thoughts. She didn't want to accidentally burn her hands. The girl finished, "So.... I guess I'll ride talon? I'm the smallest so I'll probably be easiest to carry. But if the bird is so large, will its wings be alright? the hole might not be big enough for its wings."User Image

"I didn't actually think of that." Kensei said while he continued to think. "This is going to be an odd question but you wouldn't happen to know the Hiku seal would you? I remember you training on it one day when I was sparring with Ken." He looked at the girl hoping she would say yes. If she did know it maybe they could use the seal to pull themselves out of the pit. He also had another idea but it would involve hitting a living person to stop the technique "We could also try the Raikou Henge no Jutsu. Bounce our way out of this pit and hopefully someone living is on the top. It'll be good for us but bad for them." This was all he could think of. Hopefully the two genin knew this technique also or else it would be problem.
