Hantan kept his mouth shut while Fenja talked, very quietly, about what had been. He realised this wasn't casual conversation anymore, and he didn't want to interrupt her with questions or comments. He tried to imagine such a place, but his experience of music was his mother’s lullabies and singing birds. Dance... He had never danced for fun. But from the way Fenja talked about her old home he figured it must be very special, even if he didn’t fully understand it.
Felines of all kinds, living together. It was hard to imagine that it would work, but he took her word for it. Perhaps he shouldn't be so guarded when meeting other felines. There were obviously those that had other interests than stealing your meal.
"I'd like that," he said, quietly. The situation seemed to call for it. A sudden loud noise might chase away this strange mood that made Fenja want to share stories about her past. Oh, she always had stories, but they were usually about someone else, or something funny she'd seen or heard of since they last met. "So, which tree would you like?"

The conversation had turned serious somehow but for once, Fenja didn’t feel put off by the idea of sharing a little bit about her past. Perhaps it was because she’d seen Hantan a few times already – sometimes more than she liked – and she couldn’t consider him on the same level as all the strangers she met every other day. Or maybe it was the fact that a part of her still saw him as the “kid leopard” she liked to share funny stories or just general knowledge with.
“Mmm, any will do. As long as we’re together, I don’t think anyone will dare bothering us tonight.” She liked that her Hantan seemed to understand the current mood and she shifted to a lighter tone. It would be anyone’s guess whether or not she would indeed choose to share any other tidbits of her past with her leopard friend.

"Then how about," he paused and jumped long and high, landing on one of the branches in a promising tree, "this one."
He climbed higher and settled on a comfortable branch where he proceeded to groom himself. There were many good spots in this tree so Fenja could join him if she wanted to. Or take the next tree over. But she was right; no one would dare bothering them tonight. Attacking a leopard and a marvellous tree-climbing fish-hunting lion? If someone decided to try they'd never know what hit them.

“It’s perfect.” Fenja followed the young leopard with relative ease – even if she was clearly not the most graceful feline when compared to Hantan – and quickly claimed a branch of her own slightly above the pale leopard. Silently, she settled herself for the night, releasing one long contented sigh as she let her head drop to rest on the rough surface of the branch.
“Goodnight, Hantan…” she said, her tone somewhat playful as she threw the leopard a coy glance.

"Night," he said, and then showed off a little bit by flipping over on his back on the branch, looking up at Fenja. His little party trick wasn't that hard once you found the balance, and he placed one front paw over the other on his chest to make it look even more effortless. The sunset colours in the sky were fading, and were quickly replaced by darkness. Soon enough the first stars began to appear above the pale form that was his lion friend. He felt completely at ease.
"Did you have good trees in your pride Fenja," he asked sleepily, "I don't think I could live anywhere where there are no good trees..."
He wasn't even sure she was awake, and he would probably fall asleep really soon, but the question just slipped out.

She was fading into a peaceful slumber but Fenja did hear that last question. Still, the pale lioness decided not to answer and pretended to be asleep. Even if she were to answer, Fenja wasn’t really sure what to think of it. Did they have trees in her former lands? Certainly. Were they good enough to pass a leopard’s inspection? Well, she’d hardly thought about such things at the time so it was impossible to answer now.
Fenja kept her breathing even and through her pretend sleep it wasn’t long until she truly was... asleep.
