It was getting more and more interesting with each passing moment. Unpacking seemed to have gone completely forgotten as they delved into the conversation about their ties with Grand Ile. Tyke was still sitting at Aila's feet, glancing between his master and the girl as they spoke back and forth. The Zorua's mouth having formed into a small curious 'o'.

Asch blinked once, a look of mild surprise on his face as she mentioned she was of noble lineage as well. Really, what were the odds? And her brother was the Duke no less. His eyes narrowed slightly in contemplation. "Vous avez tué la petite fille?" It would make sense, at least it would to him.

The red head averted his gaze when the question of his lineage was directed at him. "Tch. Oui, mon nom est Asch fon Fabre." There was no point in hiding it, since she had apparently recognized the characteristics of his family. Not to mention, she had revealed her lineage to him as well.

Well, that was a bit of a sore subject, but she wasn't afraid to address it nor ashamed to admit it. "Oui. Je l'ai tuée." The child's death had been a startling event for the entirety of the nation; hopefully Asch wasn't one of the extremist nutjobs who felt it a personal offense and took it upon himself to avenge the girl. He didn't seem contemptuous or even accusing in his words, though, and so Aila didn't feel that there was any imminent danger in the situation. She was confident in her own agility, but she foresaw it ending poorly for both of them if they wound up clashing in the confinement of the agent quarters. Fortunately it didn't look as though the conversation would deteriorate into such violence.

His response to her question of his family, however, did catch her off-guard, and a slight confusion emerged in her features. "Asch fon Fabre?" she repeated. "Votre vrai nom? Non Luke fon Fabre?" The latter was the name she recognized from her reading; thinking about it, she had never even heard the name Asch in association with the Fabre house...

He seemed neither surprised nor offended that Aila had indeed been the one to kill the Duke's daughter. Nor was he going to ask why. That was her own business, and it wasn't necessary for him to know about her past. It simply confirmed that there were tensions in the noble houses of Grand Ile, and not just his own.

There was a sudden flash of anger in Asch's green eyes as she asked her next questions.

"Ne parlez pas de ce nom!" he bellowed angrily, hands clenching into fists. "Je ne suis pas lui!"

Apparently Aila had hit a sore spot as well. Even Tyke lowered his ears at his master's sudden outburst. This was the second time that Asch has been confused for Luke upon arriving here. Despite his anger, he knew it was understandable considering the circumstances. Still, the very subject brought up memories that he'd rather put behind him. That was difficult though, when there was someone who looked just like you.

Aila was taken aback by the shout, but she retained her composure. "Je m'excuse," she said with a bow of her head. This did leave a rather large question, though. Luke fon Fabre was the sole heir to House Fabre. What, then, did that make Asch fon Fabre? Curious as it was, it seemed a poor idea to press the matter of names much further. She instead chose a different subject to pursue.

"Fabre Famille est dans la tourmente," she said, explaining what she had read in the article that had sparked her curiosity in the first place. "Leur héritier a disparu, apparemment." Perhaps he was using an alias and could not risk being recognized. If that were the case, it was probably worth warning him that it had been leaked that the son of House Fabre was missing. "La famille a révoqué la déclaration, mais il est évident qu'ils cachent quelque chose."

The apology seemed to take the edge off of Asch's rage as he relaxed his shoulders and unclenched his fists. Instead he stared at Aila with a deep scowl as she continued. Again his green eyes narrowed, and his arms were folded across his chest.

"Je ne m'inquiète pas," was his reply to her first statement. He actually knew full well what she was getting into before she said it. Apparently she was rather up to date with the current news in Grand Ile. A bit more than he was, since he didn't know about the heir's disappearance until Frost had mentioned seeing him.

"Je ne suis pas celui qu'ils cherchent. Lui est dans la ville de Camphoreon."

"Il ya deux--?" She stopped herself. He didn't seem terribly comfortable with the topic, and Aila had no desire to go offending her partner in their first encounter with one another. "Je suis désolé. Je ne veux pas importuner. Je n'ai jamais parlé à un autre de la Grande Ile," apart from her brother, but she wasn't sure if he really counted in these circumstances, "et donc je trop dit. Vous avez toutes mes excuses."

She'd really gotten ahead of herself, hadn't she? It was a disgraceful display of a complete disregard for etiquette, retrospectively. Had he pried similarly into her own relation to her house, she would have been similarly offended...

He was not going to answer that, especially since she had stopped mid sentence and thought better of it. Which was a wise decision, for Asch was becoming increasingly disgruntled the more she pried. It had been some time since he had talked to someone else from Grande Ile, but that was no reason to get into her personal affairs.

Her apology was well received for his anger seemed to be subsiding. His voice taking on a more callous tone as he spoke once more. "Roquettes n'ont pas besoin de connaître les uns les autres passés. Je ne vois aucune raison d'en dire plus que cela." At least for the moment. Similarly, he had no plans of asking further about hers. From what little information she did tell him, he could already tell there was some family tension in her house. She had her reasons and motives, as did he. He would respect her privacy so long as she returned the favor.

"Sages paroles," she replied. His words were very true; they were words that she herself had spoken - or at least thought or implied - on multiple occasions. What was past was past, and what was personal was personal. If there was ever the need for them to know more of one another, then they would cross the bridge on approaching it. That was what was expected of partners anyway, right?

"Je suis impatient de travailler avec vous, Asch," she said with a nod towards the agent, "et Tyke," a similar nod in the Zorua's direction.

Indeed, if Asch ever felt it necessary, then he would willingly impart information, regarding his background, to Aila. But until then, he would rather keep it to himself. However, with the idiot now wandering around Kodo, she and others were likely to find out about it sooner or later. He would rather it be later.

Tyke looked up and grinned upon being addressed, while Asch grunted in acknowledgment, "...ouais." The agent's gaze having turned away again to stare at a wall instead of his new partner. It was certain that they would have plenty of time to get to know each other during whatever missions they were assigned together.

Somewhere in Kodo, a certain idiot felt a sudden and distinct irritation for no discernible reason.

Curious that he directed his gaze elsewhere. Perhaps she had offended him more than than she thought... More curious still that the sole heir of House Fabre was suddenly more than one person. With another nod to dismiss herself, regardless of whether or not he saw it, she moved back through the door, shut it behind her, and returned to her own room to leave Asch to unpack in peace. There was research to be done - a great deal of research. Hopefully this wouldn't become an example of curiosity killing the cat...
