"You," Laney countered, her voice decisive and sure, "are awesome." Whatever her flaws, self-consciousness about showing affection wasn't one of them. Well, no, it was one of them, honestly speaking, but it wasn't one that she ever let get in her way when there was affection just itching to be shown.
She put her fist out for an utterly unironic and very lame-looking fistbump, obviously convinced this was still a thing that actual people did. "Are you sure you're okay to go home?"

Nate loved that word. Sure, he said it all the time, mostly about himself, but when someone else said it? It was magic. He was awesome, and he had to agree. He was glad she noticed.
His grin was ear to ear.
Nodding his head, putting some weight on his ankle and checking that it could support him, he decided his pig related injuries were not as substantial as they had first appeared. He offered her his fist and bumped knuckles, nodding slowly.
"Yeah, I got it well in hand," he said, laughing. He was going to get home just fine, since he could just power up and avoid all trouble ala roof tops.
He didn't ask if she would be okay. Why wouldn't she be?
"Stay cool," he said, with a wave over his shoulder as he started off casually, before jamming his hands in his pockets and looking around. No sight of any trouble, which was good. He walked off without looking back, though he was still grinning as he went.
