The hunchback gave a yelp as the tool was suddenly snatched from his hands, eyes wide as he turned to glance at the creature- it was! It was MOCKING him! Where was it's owner, anyway?? It was far too large to be just an average stray minipet- well. Well fine! If it wanted to play that way, so be it! His hands balled into fists, face reddening as he picked up speed, ready to run after the thing. He wasn't terribly fast, his occasional limp making him stumble, but once he got his steam on, he could lurch forward like only the undead could.

Really Christof? You want to see if you can catch a kelpie? Calder LIVED in the woods, where fallen trees, uneven terrain, swamps and rivers were his actual playground. He could run, and sprinting was in his BLOOD. His kind lived for speed as a good sprint was what was required to get a wayward rider into a deep river.

The fact Christof thought he could catch him was downright hilarious, but Calder liked his gusto and the challenge he was creating. Skipping a bit in place, he cried out, giving a excited neigh from between the shovel's handle and turned about, kicking off and getting his sprint on. He'd make sure to stop once Christof either slowed down or gave up.

He was almost immediately left behind, gasping for breath through snorting nostrils but still he pressed on. That was HIS shovel! HIS! And if that stupid horse thought he could take it, then he had another thing coming! Once... he... caught... up... With a growl, he leaped over a fallen log, only to snag his foot and land face first in the mud beyond.

Oh... hell's BELLS that's exactly what he needed, fresh torn stitches. He twisted, glowering down at the damage. It looked as though his boot had come off... with his foot still inside it. Great, just great. His pajama bottoms were filthy, but if he leaned on his shovel he could hobble ho-

Wait.

Fear alive.

He gave a frustrated snarl, slamming a fist against the trunk as though that would fix matters.

Slamming to a dead halt, Calder turned to see the fallen Igor. Shaking his head, he let out a blow as he trotted his way back, tail swishing behind as he looked down at the frustrated undead boil. Really now. This is what you got when you though you could catch a keplie, not to mention when you got so angry at the world and didn't just take a nice, little breather.

Leaning his head down, Calder dropped the shovel for Christof to grasp before nibbling on his head a moment as if to say 'there-there', and then trotted around to where a leg and a boot now stood, devoid of owner. Biting on the boot, Calder turned his head, then set a hoof on the log (mindful not to move it and smush his friend), and then pulled it off. Now with a new prize, he turned around and trotted back, booted foot held firmly but gently in his mouth.

Christof's eyes narrowed, glowering at the mysterious horse in new light. Something... was going on here. He wasn't entirely sure what, but whatever it was, he wasn't sure he liked it. Lips pursed, he grabbed the shovel by the handle to use as a crutch as he eased himself up onto his feet, carefully, quietly holding a trembling hand out. By the sweat dripping down his face, he clearly expected his fingers to be bitten off the moment they came close.

Calder looked at the hand, then at Christof, and debated returning it. He would have forced any other person to beg for it, but seeing as Christof couldn't talk, that wouldn't work. The fact he was missing a foot now meant the kelpie couldn't play chase again, and the fact the Igor looked exhausted made it seem like a bit cruel to drag him around for his own foot.

Taking a moment to think about it, he leaned his head in and dropped the boot and the foot inside in the Igor's hand. Then, he waited, looking at the Igor as if expecting something.

Christof flinched back as the horse made it's move, expecting the worst- but when all currently-attached-limbs remained intact, he opened an eye, staring at the boot now firmly in his hand. Hesitantly, he glanced up, brows furrowing before giving a thanking grunt.

That seeming to be that, he took a seat on the log, using the boot's laces to try to lash the foot onto his leg again until he got home to his needle and thread, still glancing at the white stallion with considerable confusion. There was something.... familiar about the creature. But he couldn't put his foot on it.

A grunt? A GRUNT! That was no way to say thank you, and the Igor was still making a grumpy face. It was frustrating that in either form, it was downright hard to get the boil to crack a smile and just cut loose. It was a gorgeous night out and he was here with a actual kelpie, and all he wanted to do was huff about and not just enjoy it. He always made everything harder than they needed to be. He just created more work for himself and while he guessed it was something an Igor might want, it seemed downright dumb.

Giving a blow of frustration, Calder stood up, trotted three steps over, and dipped his head down before pushing his muzzle against the boil's hand.

Oh come on now, Christof. You had to get what this meant.

At first he flinched back, taken by surprise, but even the dimmest Igor knew when a critter wanted to be pet. Pursing his lips, his expression softened slightly, and, nervously, he reached up to pat the creature's forehead. That... wasn't so bad... so long as the trampling wasn't coming.

OH THANK JACK! Christof got it. Calder had been very worried he was going to get a shovel to his skull, but instead he got a nice little pat. A very nice one, and he looked up at the igor and gave a little neigh that that was EXACTLY what he wanted. THAT was how you thanked a kelpie and a horse. No grumpy grunts. Too bad the boil didn't have any treats. :c

The hunchback sighed, giving the animal one more pat before shifting. The sun was going to come up soon, he should probably go feed Scruff. He wasn't sure what else the horse wanted of him, he didn't have any apples or carrots- he knew from Calder that was what they liked to eat anyway. Nor even any cupcakes. His mouth trembled into a soft smile as he sighed, pushing himself wobbling to his feet.

Content, the white horse stepped back and let Christof get up, making sure for a moment that he could actually move. It seemed like he was mobile. Marybe. Sorta. Checking the sky, he wondered if his little charade was done. Would sticking around only make the Igor angry and ruin that little moment where he patted him with some later mood swing? It always seemed to be the habit when Calder was around, and he didn't want to ruin what little good impression he had as this other creature. Actually, it was like being in this form gave him a second chance to start all over and be his friend. Despite this not being an official apology for visit from Christof, it was still nice to see him and get a little bit of affection from his friend - even if it was directed to some horse and not to Calder specifically.

With one last motion toward the Igor, Calder leaned in and nuzzled the boy's neck, before pushing off to get some distance in case the Igor shoved him off or tried to hit him. Standing, he watched to see if the boil could move at all.

Christof had flushed, playfully- but not violently- shoving the horse off of him as he tentatively checked his half-haphazardly attached foot. It... only swiveled a little bit with each step. It would be slow going but he'd hopefully have enough time to get back to get dressed before it was time for class...

A step. A small step. A slow, small, step.

Calder watched as the Igor inched, step by limping step, using his shovel as a crutch like a sad rendition of Tiny Tim. Considering it was already well past late, Calder watched the Igor and then looked off in the distance where the undead dorms were. For Calder, it was just a quick, easy sprint to his room where he might get a few measy hours of rest before going to class. At this rate, Christof would get into his room in enough time to them make a very slow walk to his own classes. Would he even have enough time to fix his foot?

Standing, Calder looked at the foot and tried to place the blame on the Igor. It was Christof's dumb fault for not visiting his friends. It was his fault for overreacting to a horse and running after him. It was his fault for falling over that log as if he could catch him.

But then, Calder remembered when he sprained his leg, ignored it, and got to the point where he was unable to move, stuck in the woods. He had no one to call and no help, and it was Fester who had to go and find Malodore.

Even though Christof didn't know it was him, and even though Christof had yet to really see him to confirm they were friends, Calder wasn't just going to let the Igor hobble his way back. With all the work he did, was it right to just leave him hanging? The kelpie teen wasn't sure he could go to sleep for how many few hours he could when he turned his back on the one person who could be considered his best friend.

But having already played this charade of a dumb horse, he couldn't well change and help the Igor out. Christof would be furious that he messed around with him and caused him to hurt his foot, probably wouldn't accept his help, and probably never want to talk to him again.

Frowning, he looked back at the undead dorm buildings off in the distance, and back to the limping Igor.

There was one thing. One thing that, in all his time, he only let one person do. One person who he came to trust and who, in the end, betrayed that trust. Yet, looking at it now, if anyone in the whole world was closest enough to have the level of trust necessary for Calder to even consider such an option, it was, hooves' down, Christof.

Trotting over, Calder very awkwardly leaned forward, and laid down right before the Igor's path. It was a good thing he couldn't blush, but he had a moment where he just couldn't look at the Igor. This was.....rather strange for him. He wasn't good.......with riders.

Christof blinked as the horse suddenly prostrated itself before him. What... what was it doing? He debated moving around it, before wondering if maybe it just wanted another pat. Well... it's fur did look soft. Tentatively, he reached out to give it one more goodbye pat.
