I am not a pretty girl.
That is not what I do…

“I never new pirates could be so cold.” Mae said, pressing a hand to her chest and looking away, as if offended. She shook her head, taking a drink from her bottle. Mae was careful not to drink too much, she needed a level head for this. But she didn’t want to seem like she was holding back or anything, suspicions could arise. Especially with this sharp-looking man. Mae turned back towards him. “If you must know, I wanted nothing more than a good conversation.” Mae leaned closer to him, still having to shout. “I find pirates quite interesting, myself. I’ve always wanted to be one. But girls are never allowed on the crews.” Mae shook her head, her eyes searching the man’s face. Her face looked disappointed, almost sad. She took another drink from her bottle, as if to punctuate her point.
“Where are my manners?” She suddenly asked, shaking her head. “Gina Ellis.” Mae stuck out her hand for a shake. “Gee or Gina is what I go by. Or Gee Gina!” Mae laughed, shaking her head. “And what do you call yourself?”

Watching her chatter on with a blank face, James took another drink, leaning away from her hand slightly and slumping more against the wall, scooting a little to get comfortable. He found it amusing that she was interested in pirates. Not much to them. Stealing, lying, sailing, killing. That was about it, at least for most of them. Why a girl, a pretty one no less, would be interested in the sea-dogs other than for a good night of rebellion he couldn't comprehend. Something wasn't adding up and it was making his spine tingle. Hearing her offered name, he answered carefully, looking past her to make sure the crew was still accounted for. "Hornet." He shook her hand as an afterthought, not having noticed she had held it out until after he had answered. 'She's too chatty...' he mused to himself, wondering what the captain would make of her if he brought her aboard. Captain Aigua held nothing against women aboard, so long as they knew what they were doing. Most of the time, if they did pick up a broad, she'd end up in the galley with their only full time female, Freska.

“Hornet.” Mae repeated, her brows furrowing a bit as she looked him over. She didn’t see him as a hornet. Perhaps a Crow or something. But that wasn’t exactly her call to make. Mae followed his gaze, trying to figure out what he kept looking at. It seemed like he was just looking off into the crowd, but maybe he was actually watching something. Or someone. Or perhaps, the rest of the crew. Had she caught a high one on her hook? Mae looked the man, Hornet, over again. He didn’t look like much. But the fact that he wasn’t out there doing irresponsible and idiotic things like the rest of the crew seemed to be doing did give her a bit of a tip off.
Mae leaned her shoulder on the wall, her attention on Hornet. Or so it seemed, at least. Mae was watching everything that was happening from the corner of her eye. Including the two bickering men off to the side. In fact, they were more than bickering. They were yelling, it was obvious that those two drunken fools were about to get into it. A perfect opportunity. Mae grabbed hornet’s arm. “Maybe we should get out of here. Fighting’s about to break out. And it could get pretty nasty if we stay much longer.” Mae nodded to the men.

James snorted, tugging his arm back and taking another swig from his bottle. "Let 'em fight. Could be amusing." He grinned, flashing two or three gold teeth towards the bickering men, noticing that half of the crew had turned and were betting with each other, clearly on the outcome of the fight. Raising his voice, James called over to one of the men. "Hatchet! Put me down for three gold on the big one!" After getting the affirmative, he downed another shot, eying the last quarter of liquid before taking another drink with a shrug. Glancing back at the girl, Gina or whatever her name was, he noticed the bottle tucked at her side. Fancy drink, he called it, coming in tiny expensive bottles and having a flavor. Psh. He liked big bottles of strong stuff, even if it didn't get him as sloshed as he'd have liked to be sometimes.

Mae’s eyes flashed. She knew this type. Not the kind of man she would have chosen if she would have known that he would be like this. “Ten on the small one.” Gina said expertly. She had seen this duo duke it out tons of times, plus both of them fight others. The smaller one won almost all his brawls. He may have not had the brawn of the other, but he certainly had the brains. Mae’s eye twinkled. “I give them five minutes until the fight is over.” Mae added, for extra emphasis. She turned away from him, leaning her back fully on the wall and taking a drink out of her bottle. Gina needed to win his attention back. She needed to get onto that boat. And if he forgot she existed, that was not going to happen.
Blundering cows and their fighting. What’s so amusing about two beefy, drunken idiots bashing at each other over something moronic? Nothing. That’s what. Sheesh. You want to see a real fight? Try two level-headed thieves going after the same chest of gold. While avoiding guards. Now that’s clear headed as ever. She could seriously out drink anyone she knew and still be able to win at a chess match. Though most people around here didn’t even know what chess was, it seemed.

Hiding a frown at the abrupt change in attitude, James gleefully watched the two as they finished yelling and started brawling. Half the bar jeered, cheering on one or the other while the other half ignored it, used to the noise and commotion. Noticing movement in the corner of his eye, and a familiar hairstyle, James aimed a half-salute to Freska, who lingered in the doorway a second before ghosting off, her message sent. James sighed, finishing off his bottle and standing, the only thing necessary to notify the crew. He would find out the fights outcome later. Stretching slightly and leaving his bottle, James glanced at Gina before shrugging and looking away. If she followed, the Captain could let her aboard if he so chose. He doubted it though, if they were being called back to the ship this early. Dusk was just hitting, turning the sky multitudes of pinks, purples, and golds while the crew sauntered back to the ship, some clutching half empty bottles, others carrying entire barrels bought for the ship. Once the last man had left the tavern, James started for the door, whistling a merry tune and tossing a few coins at the barkeep for the mess left behind.

Mae's brows rose as the man gave a weird sort of salute thing. She turned but saw nobody. Mae's suspicions rose a bit as the mnan finished off his bottle and rose. He gave no word of where she was going. MNae made a quick sweep of the bar, realizing that the rest of the crew was moving out of the bar. Gina chewed on her thumb nail a bit as The Hornet walked away without a word to her.
It infuriated her, really. Not only that this drunken oaf would leave without a word to her, but also that their bloody captian kept getting in her way. Mae followed him out the door. she wondederd if she should go on the offensive, or just keep pressing him without any aggression. She knew she could probably take him if he was alone, but twith the rest of the crew... She would have had to get him alone first if she was going to use first. And taht would probably be an issue. So she tagged along behind him, instead, like a lost puppy. "Where are you going off to in such a hurry?" She asked him.

James turned his head a little, glancing behind him at Gina. "Captain called." Was all he said before turning back around and following the road towards the docks. The Basilisk was easy to spot among the other ships, with the Captain's crest emblazoned on the main sail, blue and red on a dark green background. If he squinted, he could see Aigua himself wandering among the rigging, obviously watching for the crew.

User ImageThieves I was afraid of that. Mae nodded, as if she was interested in every word he had to say. "That one?" Mae pointed to the ship that they were heading to. She noticed that something about it was different than before, but she couldn't quite identify what. Mae walked behind Hornet as best as she could without making it obvious.
Mae's mind suddenly snapped to her hat, she took it off and slipped it within the small bad she carried over her shoulder. She also reached up and put her long brown ahir into a ponytail. She needed to be as different as possible, in case she was seen by the captian.

James gave an affirmative noise, stopping beside the ladder used to climb aboard. He noticed the water acting funny, something it usually did when the captain was supicious, and frowned slightly. So that's why they had been called back. Someone had been on the ship, someone who obviously rubbed Aigua the wrong way. He frowned slightly, waiting until the last man had climbed up before eying Gina. Shrugging slightly, he reached for the ladder, easily scaling the side of the ship. "Come up if you want. The captain'll see ya before we set off."

Said captain hummed slightly, watching the crew get to their posts and smiled, grabbing a rope and swinging down to land behind the mast. Dusting off his breeches, he wandered over, giving a few orders here and there before spotting James. "Hornet, everyone accounted for?"

"Aye Sir, and one more, if you're interested in takin' on another lass."

"Bring her up, if she wants. I'll be in my cabin." James nodded, aiming a salute in his direction as he wandered towards his quarters, wishing to enjoy a glass of his favored wine that the men had brought aboard.

User ImageThieves Gina followed Hornet up the ladder, smirking to herself as she saw the Captian walking away. Mae leaned on the railing of this ship. "Wow." She said softly, throwing a glance behind her at Hornet.
Though she had the weirdest urge to suddenly punch the oaf, she would have to stay on his good side. Until the crew started to go to bed, she couldn't raise suspicions. Then she could grab some loot, and get out of there.

James turned to Gina, considering her carefully. "Is there anything you can do aboard a ship? I don't care if it's only cleaning and cooking. If you're here, you're going to work." He spoke, all the authority of a second in command behind his voice this time. Around him the crew scrambled to make ready. none of them knew why they were leaving early, but they trusted the captain and if he said sail, sail they did. When the majority of the work was done, the day crew left, heading to the galley for a bite to eat and then to bed, while the night crew finished readying for sea. Already the ship bobbed easier in the water, the very wood itself seeming to be excited at the thought of open water.

User ImageThieves Mae had to be careful how she phrased this. She couldn't really just outright say that she stole and thieved for a living. She probably would be kicked off. But she wasn't the sort of person who wanted to do "Woman's work," either. Gina turned fully to Hornet, now. "I can do almost anything I set my mind to." She took a step towards him, almost like a challenge. "I fight, as well. So if you've dismissed me as just another skirt-wearing flowery girl, you better change that outlook right now." Mae's eyes were hot. She could almost garuntee that that was what he had been thinking. But she forced a smirk onto her lips, so she didn't seem too offended.
"Probably better than you." Mae mentally dared him to bite onto that one.

Grinning at the challenge in her voice, James laughed. "Right little spitfire you are. Come with me, the Captain'll have last say, lest ye be stuck here til we make port again." He turned, lumbering off towards the back of the ship, where a single door melded with the wall, windows with the curtains drawn shut along either side. Knocking, he waited, ear held close to the door, then, at some unheard signal, opened it, stepping aside to let Gina pass first.

William leaned back in his chair, a glass of Blackberry Merlot in hand and a thick tome in from of him. He hoped that the girl James had found wasn't some bint who admired Pirates and hung around the docks all the time just to see one. He couldn't stand chits like that. A knock at the door interrupted his thoughts and he looked up. "Enter." He answered, bored with his book. Turning slightly and sitting up a little, he took a sip of his wine before setting it aside, knowing that James wouldn't bother him unless the girl passed his own test.

User ImageThieves Mae smirked as the boy laughed. Yeah. Yuck it up. You won't be so happy when I rob you blind. Mae's heart nearly stopped when Hornet spoke of the Captian having the final say. She was so screwed, but she followed behind him anyhow. There was really nothing to do or say than to go in there. She felt to make sure she still had her knives tucked into herwaistband. She did. And her knife was also in her bag. She swallowed. She didn't get nervous easily, but this job was certianly pulling on her nerves.
Mae nodded at Hornet when she heard the captian's voice call out, her ponytail bobbing. Then she entered, her eyes quickly scanning the room before landing on the captian. She said nothing, leaning slightly on the edge of the doorframe. Mae made sure to keep all signs of emotion out of her eyes and face.
