Sir Kyle Aziz Not exactly like IG would fare any better in melee. problem with IG is twofold, they tend too stay inside vehicles shooting out of them, and they seem to have 2 more squads for every one you destroy...

Problem with Guard is the codex really put a damper on their close combat prowess by overpricing power weaponry and giving all models initiative 3, right up to heroes.
Well, expect a bat-rep soon, with pictures hopefully.

You are welcome Van. =)
I wasn't trying to say that the Guard don't have an advantage, when it comes to fire power and lots of it, they definitely excel but I don't want Tau left out as they deserve some credit too.
In any case, depending on the mission objectives and the commanders in charge, game play can vary greatly. A friend of mine who is an absolute 40k nut and I mean to the point that he is a walking resource for the big book and all codex rules... showed me some nasty GK tricks. Needless to say, I know for a fact just how ruthless they can be and quite frankly... how unfair they seem to be... I get the feeling that they are the new Monolith.

Haha true enough Van, rumours that I've heard sound quite nasty. Have to admit though, if the Necrons actually get flavour and by that I mean a variety of units and play styles (more than just mass warriors or destroyers) I might actually play them. I've always liked the Terminator style look to them, just couldn't stand how limited the options were for a playable army.
In other news, here comes my first Eldar battle report!
1. Name of your army: Ulthwe; Craftworld of the Damned
2. Codex used: Eldar
3. Army points size: 1,870
4. What your opponent was: Grey Knights - Codex Grey Knights
5. Mission type: Objectives
6. Deployment type: Pitched Battles
7. Who won: Eldar won with 1 of the 3 objectives.
8. Memorable moments in the game:
A The look on my GK opponents face when he realized he was facing a transport heavy Eldar army... (he didn't have any ranged tank busting weapons.)
B.
D. The GK player calling me an Eldar coward for not facing his beefed up Paladins in close combat!
9. Final thoughts on this match:
My GK pal wanted to try another paladin heavy list with the addition of Draigo and a Librarian. Which is perfectly fine when you are experimenting but as you've seen from this thread, he hasn't learned much from his defeats yet. I keep encouraging him to try being more flexible with the list and try a larger variety of units or at least so more mobile options. The result of that?
The Eldar danced around the table, refusing to disembark from their transports while the Vypers, War Walkers and Pathfinders picked away at the Paladin squads with concentrated fire. At the end of 5 turns, 1 Vyper had been destroyed, another disabled and 8 paladins were killed. Victory went to the mobile army that kept the enemy chasing while a stealthy pathfinder unit held an objective.
I'm hoping that after this match, it'll finally sink in that he needs to either start teleporting or start mixing it up. I know he doesn't trust his scatter rolls but if he had done that, he could have landed in my face and at least ruined my war walker/vyper fire base and saved himself some pain.

Not 40k, but Dust Tactics. US Army Rangers (ASOCOM) versus Waffen SS (Blutkreuz Korps) Due to the game system in its infancy no army lists are as of yet available Point values are: Two class 2 Infantry squads and one class 4 vehicle: Rangers: Assault Ranger squad (designation BBQ), Combat Ranger squad and Medium Combat Walker (designation "Hot Dog" due to turret mounted napalm thrower) Blutkreuz: Laser Grenadier squad, Colonel Sigrid von Thaler (a hero unit) and Panzer Kampflaüfer II (designation "Luther" due to 5cm flak cannon and kampfzange combat attachment) The mission played was "Reconnaissance", which should be called annihilate or something as the scenario runs until one side is completely wiped out The Rangers were attackers, Blutkreuz were defenders The victory went to the US Army Rangers, but only just Memorable moments: - The Combat Ranger squad getting wiped out by massed laser fire - The BBQ squad also getting wiped out by massed laser fire, despite a cautious advance - Hot Dog getting revenge on its infantry brothers by torching the everliving ******** out of those flashlight spamming krauts - Hot Dog surviving a barrage of fire from Luther only to close in and torch the evil Kraut robot as well, securing a bitter victory for the Allies Final thoughts: Hard fought, no mercy, zero tolerance, until the death it was. But a fun game made funnier thanks to a great opponent. Vengeance has been sworn, for Bazooka Joe still needs to kill Sigrid, finishing the job he started when he killed her father.

1. Name of your army: salamanders
2. Codex used: space marines
3. Army points size: 1,000
4. What your opponent was: Grey Knights - Codex Grey Knights
5. Mission type: capture control
6. Deployment type: Pitched Battles
7. Who won: salamanders by tabling the grey knights and 1-0 on objectives
8. Memorable moments in the game:
A purifyers charging into my ironclad dreadnought and getting wiped out, even if they had a daemon hammer, and passed the phychic test for hammerhand
B.winning the game, both by tabling opponant, and by consolidating onto the objective
C. The GK player getting tabled by basic space marines when he only killed 5 basic marines
D. justicar of the terminator squad suffering perals of the warp and dieing, rendering that squad of their daemon hammer
9. Final thoughts on this match: well, grey knights wernt as scairy as i first thought, castelian crowe got a thunderhammer to the face from a chapter master, dieing in the first round of combat, the GK paladins were taken down by a combined assault of a venerable dread, an ironclad dread, and a tactical squad however they did imobalise one of the dreads, but lost the combat and were cut down, allowing me to consolidate to objectives, and purifyers just failed by shooting at the iron clad, then charging him, all in the end to get pummeled and chased down,
then again, he was only able to field 5 paladins, 5 terminators, crowe, and 5 purifyers, so 16 models to kill.. against a venerable dread, an ironclad dread, a chapter master, and two tactical squads, plus a techmarine,

1. Name of your army. 312th "Steel Dragoons" 2. Codex used. Imperial Guard 3. Army points size. 2750 4. What your opponent was. Blood Angels 5. Mission type. Capture and Control 6. Deployment type. Pitched Battles 7. Who won. Imperial Guard Tabling the Blood Angles 2-0 8. Memorable moments in the game. A. Yarrick and his squad squad of 30 guardsmen chargeing into a rino loaded with assault troops to get their objective, though i lost all of my guardsmen and Yarrick was killed, but he kept coming back and contesting the objective the rest of the game. B. A Vet Squad destroying a squad of termies while hideing behind their wreaked Chimara with a combo of First Rank Fire Second Rank Fire, and Bring it Down, and Fire On My Target 30 shots that are Twin Linked, and cover saves are to be re-rolled. (love the new orders, and they got a new shinny medel they can throw away). C. A Weapons Squad of three Lascannons Wreaking every Bale Pread that came within Range. D. Creed sending out 8 orders in one turn (another great trick of Inspirering Tatics) 9. Final thoughts on this match. This battle really was his to lose he just had crappy rolls, like his termies deepstrikeing off course and landing in terrain before failling their pinning test and getting stuck, the only thing I had were lots of lucky rolls and Yarrick (that stubbern old man never dies) and he out classed me in just about every field exept the numbers and dice roll catugories.

1. Name of your army. Biel-tan 2. Codex used. Eldar 3. Army points size. 1500 4. What your opponent was. Orks 5. Mission type. Annihilation 6. Deployment type. Pitched battle 7. Who won. Orks 7-5 8. Memorable moments in the game. A I hid my warp spiders behind a rock, waited for a deff dread trying to sneak up on them and ten jet packed to reappear behind it and shoot at it's rear armour 10 with my strength 6 guns blowing it to pieces. B When my Striking Scorpions appeared I rushed my Vypers in with Flat out speed to form a 4+ save wall. Although the orks managed to catch the vehicles instead, but held on for the Striking scorpions to jump in and tear through the orks. C I flew my Wave serpent daringly across the enemy's flank, almost being caught a few times and shot to bits and then got behind the Battle wagon where my Fire dragons jumped out and toasted it's rear... sadly though the Warboss wasn't too happy and caught them and ripped them to pieces. D The sacrifice of the Dire Avenger Exarch allowed the Farseer to live with one wound left, avoiding total defeat. 9. Final thoughts on this match. It was a close match, I arguably could've won if my first round of shooting wasn't so terrible. If it went well my veichle's would've been able to rush though the centre and spend less time sneak around the flanks to sneak behind the enemy. Overall it was probably my most ingenious even though I lost as the memorable moments point out.

1. Name of your army. Helghast 5th 2. Codex used. Imperial Guard 3. Army points size. 2500 4. What your opponent was. Space Marines 5. Mission type. Annihilation 6. Deployment type. Quarters 7. Who won. Space Marines 8. Memorable moments in the game. Spectacular failure by Helghast 5th to destroy Marine Crusader Landraider on the 1st turn. To then have it charge up the battlefield and disgorge assault Terminators into the IG lines proceed to carve their way towards my vehicles. Marbo appearing behind the Marine Vindicator and popping it with a demo-charge. My opponent's face was a picture. xd 9. Final thoughts on this match. I will equip my guard with more AP2 type weaponry and make damn sure any Landraider type vehicles get popped before they get too close.
