Delphine laughed, a rich sound that somehow didn't fit her icy appearance. Even Delphine could laugh from time to time, and something about Kam's self-indulgence was just too much for her to ignore. At least laughing was better than being completely turned off by Kam's current love for no one but himself (and perhaps Khaldun, Kam did seem to be going to some lengths to locate his missing little brother). "I am sure that all eating a 50 piece mcnugget meal will do is add a little fat to your build." She reached over to Kam, sympathetically patting his shoulder. Somehow she doubted he'd actually get fat, but it wouldn't be like her to just feed someone's ego.

Kamboja did enough of that himself already.

With her cup now filled with coke, she glanced back to the counter to see if their food was ready. Jesus Christ, but these employees were slow today. Perhaps they had indulged in a few too many big macs for their own good. "It probably look irresistible and delicious," she added with another short laugh. At this point she was beginning to think that she was destined to get along with Khaldun-esque people.

"Hey, you've got a phone, right? Khaldun didn't, it was ******** frustrating as hell. But I figure if I see him or you see him, we can give each other a call so we can jointly beat the s**t out of his a**." It was clear what option Delphine was gunning for. There was going to be no happy reunion, Khaldun was going to be beat bloody first, and then Delphine would forgive him, and then she would buy him some welcome-back McDonalds.

"That's impossible," Kam took a long sip of his sprite and then pushed himself off of the counter, "I don't believe in getting fat." He stated it simply as fact, without the slightest hint of amusement. Kam took his appearance seriously and, honestly, he couldn't see himself ever not doing so.

A number was called out from the counter - a quick glance at the receipt he'd been holding onto told Kam they were next. ******** finally.

"There weren't really any carrier options in the Amazon," he shrugged his shoulders as he said it and turned to look down at her. "I'll get one soon though, I don't like being disconnected from s**t in the middle of a city." Out in the wilderness where there were barely any people to talk to anyway? Sure. In the middle of a city, especially one with such ridiculous s**t as this one? Not a chance.

"Oh, oh, oh," he held out the hand with his drink in it, splaying three fingers (the ones not required to hold the cup up) in a 'hold on' gesture. With his other he was digging out his wallet again and flipping it open with one hand. Inside the fold were a few pieces of paper and.. a napkin. He set his drink on the counter then and flipped through until he found what he was looking for.

"This is the guy I'm staying with, you can just call his cell, he won't mind." Well, he was pretty sure he wouldn't. He held out the piece of paper and stuffed his wallet back in his pocket with the other hand.

"I am sure that's what every customer who walks through the door here tells themselves. Like that fat chick over there, totally think she's not fat, but I'm surprised her skin can keep all the weight inside of it." Delphine gestured nonchalantly to a woman sitting in a booth at the corner of the restaurant. The woman was too busy scarfing down a cheeseburger to notice Delphine's rude commentary on her physique. Actually, Delphine shouldn't be putting herself at risk like this. The woman was big enough that if she heard, she could just suffocate Delphine underneath her enormous layers of fat.

She moved to pick up their tray of food, setting her drink down on it and carrying it over to a table. Fifty pieces of ******** mcnuggets was insane, but she doubted Kamboja could resist the challenge of trying to eat them all in one sitting. "In the Amazon? You went to the Amazon?" she asked incredulously. "You know, I would have picked some place with civilization, and plenty of cell phone coverage." Delphine definitely didn't look like a girl who wanted to tough it out in the wilds of the Amazon. She could if she had to, but wanting to was a different thing entirely. It was not her vacation place of choice.

"If you have a pen, I can give you my number too." Part of her was reluctant to have to call some random a** dude just to get a hold of Kamboja. It would be far more easier for him to call her. But, that didn't mean she refused the piece of paper that was offered to her. She took the slip and stuffed it into her front pocket.

Kam followed Delphine's eyes to look at the woman sitting in the booth, scarfing down her food, and made a face that clearly read 'not a chance'. He would have flexed his muscles at her to get his point across, but he'd already done that and she was leaving to go get their food anyway. So he just leaned against the counter while he waited, then fell in beside her to walk towards a table.

"Uh, sure, I've got a pen." He paused and glanced around - then noticed the 'suggestions and comments' box that was sitting at the end of a row of booths. He glanced around to see how many people were looking at him and, when he was pretty sure no one was, he simply reached up and snapped the pen that was dangling from one of those flimsy little chains. He took a long sip of his soda and stuffed the pen in his pocket with the most casual look in the world, and joined Delphine at a back table.

"Here, pen," he pulled it out and set it on the table as he sat down, then reached out for his magical 50 piece bucket. He turned it around in his hands for a few seconds and then pulled the top off. "I haven't had a ******** McNugget in three years, can you believe that s**t?" And then he promptly picked one up and shoved it in his mouth - not with the best table manners, but he couldn't give a s**t less.

There was definitely no denying that Kamboja was related to Khaldun, not with Kamboja's way of... solving problems. This is where Khaldun must have picked this ridiculously stupid s**t up from. She watched with an amused curl of her lips as Kam confiscated a pen from the suggestions and comments box. If anyone actually noticed, they didn't do anything about it (possibly because Kam was a bit intimidating in appearance). "Nice pen," she commented with a soft chuckle as Kam presented his prize to her. She took the pen, grabbed a napkin, and scribbled down her cell phone number for him quickly.

Delphine began to pick away at her own meal, treasuring each bite of her greasy fastfood meal. McDonalds was truly irresistible, and she couldn't even fathom living a whole year without it. She had gone a few months, resorted to other fastfood chains... but never again. McDonalds had her heart and her stomach completely. "I don't know how you even ******** survived that long. What the hell were you doing in the Amazon, twenty billion miles away from a decent fast food place?" Again, the Amazon wasn't quite Delphine's idea of a vacation.

She'd go someplace civilized, like Europe or Japan. The Amazon? No ******** way, what did someone do in the Amazon, bird watch? ...Actually, "Please don't tell me you just went there for bird watching, I beg of you."

"Thanks, I worked really hard for it," he mumbled half-heartedly around a mouthful of chicken nugget (how many had he stuffed in there already?), not really paying her any attention until she shoved the napkin out for him to see. He picked it up, glanced over the numbers without bothering to try and memorize them, then leaned forward just enough to stuff it in his back pocket. Now he just had to remember not to wash his jeans before he took it out.

He let her ramble for a little bit about the Amazon and seemed to be paying very little attention to her in general, until he stopped suddenly and stared at her over the top of his open McNugget box. He picked up a hand, still holding a half-eaten nugget, and leveled a pointer at her.

"Don't mock the ******** birds, okay?" He withdrew his hand and popped the half-eaten processed chicken into his mouth, then reached out to take a long sip of his soda. "I went there to get away from stupid s**t going on around here and I kind of ended up taking longer than I expected. It's easy to lose track of what day it is out there."

Of course, Kam had a lot of reasons for losing track of time, some more socially acceptable than others. It had been a learning experience to say the least.

"As long as you don't get caught in the lowlands during the rainy season, it's perfectly safe."

Delphine had to resist speaking the first snarky thought that came to her mind. Khaldun put up with it... for the most part, but Kamboja seemed to be a little less tolerant. Instead she let Kam's weird fascination with the birds of the Amazon pass without comment, even if she couldn't help but think that Kam must have really liked those birds over his brother if he ditched Khaldun to frolic with them in the Amazon. "You... lost track for over a year?" The expression on Delphine's face said it all - she didn't quite believe that story. Delphine didn't have to believe a thing he said, and at this point was sort of picking and choosing depending on exactly what he was claiming.

A trip to the Amazon was reasonable, leaving a younger brother behind... not so reasonable. It obviously had happened, and Delphine had her own opinions of it. Really, Kamboja did not seem that bad, and she wasn't keen on pissing the man off. He was her best shot and finding where Khaldun had gone off to. "Riight, I am definitely not planning a trip to the Amazon any time soon. I hear that there are some nasty diseases down there, which are only worse in the rainy season."

Pressing her luck, she reached over to Kam's bucket of chicken nuggets and stole one for herself. She was relatively small and slender, but that did not mean she was incapable of eating her own weight in chicken nuggets. "Thanks. But yeah, if you find anything out about him, I'd like to know. I've spent the past few months formulating revenge plots for the bullshit he's pulled on me."

"No, not exactly," he mumbled through another bite of chicken nugget. For the most part he was avoiding looking at Delphine. It made him seem as if he was very passionate about this food but in truth, he just didn't want to have to explain himself to her. So he wouldn't.

He did happen to glance up just in time to see her hand shoot out and sneak away one of his Mcnuggets. He stared at her long and hard as she chewed it, narrowing his eyes on her and slowly curling his hands around his 50 piece box. This was his food. Just who did she think he was?

"Tell you what," he shut his box and stacked his mostly untouched fries on top, then scooped up what was left of his soda. "I will call you if I hear anything about the punk, or when I get a cell so you can call me." He stood, still looking a little irate. "I'm going to go find my roommate, and you can stay here and enjoy that free lunch of yours." That was a nice way of saying 'stay the ******** out of my food', but it meant a lot that Kam had been nice in the first place.

"See you around, Delphine." Then he was strutting off through the restaurant, pausing only long enough to refill his soda, and then he disappeared through the double glass doors.
