Hiro was not a quiet trainer. He may have even been a very annoying one. While Painite was learning her swings and balance, the cat was leaping back and forth on the sidelines.
"Left!" he would cry. "No, higher! ... Hands further apart ... Arrrgh, watch your feet! Not literally!!"
It was a wonder he didn't end up underfoot. Or that Painite didn't turn the spear on him and try attacking a moving target. To say that Painite performed well under pressure was an understatement. Soon the 'help' was dying off, only the odd criticism coming in between her strikes.
Painite paused after completing an error-free series of swings and blows. Hiro finally walked closer, feline pride oozing from him. "A quick learner, as always," he praised her. "Excellent work, Painite."
Hiro wasn't too sure what this lightsaber thing was she kept talking about. He would need to do some research. Though if he knew she was thinking of adding flips and other acrobatic moves into her repertoire, Hiro would running to find a gym somewhere - with lots and lots of padded mats. He could hardly help catch her if she fell, after all.
One of his ears twitched invitingly as he beamed at Painite.

Painite seemed to be a fairly good student, at least. She liked the direction, if only because she was treating him very much like a director in a play. He had to tell her the blocking, or the way he was seeing his play, as she would never be able to guess it. In training, Hiro seemed to know more about effective ways of attacking, standing and defending, and she wasn't about to argue with him on the notes he was giving her.
Even if every time he yelled a correction she half jumped and stumbled more, and had to correct herself even more. And he was right to tell her not to literally look at her feet: when ever he commented on her stance she felt compelled to look at herself to see what she was doing wrong.
Looking tired, but very happy with the successful outcome, Painite grinned at Hiro broadly. She looked every bit as proud of herself as she felt. She couldn't help it, and would not try to hide it: what was the point in succeeding with others watching and not showing how much she enjoyed it? To save some feelings or not look like a cocky person?
She was determined, and liked that about herself. She was awesome, and when she did awesome things, she basked in it and let others do so, too. Simple.
"Thank you! That was pretty invigorating. I think it's definitely getting easier to use this thing," she laughed, stooping to scratch at Hiro's ears affectionately. He was, after all, a kitty and he had promised she could pet him if she did well.

Hiro basked under the combined praise and affection. He let out a quiet rumble and rubbed his nose and cheek along Painite's hand. When the smooching was done, he sat back.
"Always happy to help you," he said. It had been a good night's work. Reuniting with Painite, seeing her promotion, assisting her with training... Hiro would make sure that their next meeting wasn't after yet another promotion. Painite had so much promise (and such good scritchings) that Hiro was determined to keep in touch. A Guardian Cat's first duty was to his senshi, of course. And to the other corrupt senshi as well. But there was no rule saying he couldn't be helping out the less-magical members of the Negaverse, too.
"Shall we call it a night? No sense in over-working yourself." They could always practice more another day.

Painite couldn't help but giggle as Hiro purred and rubbed her hand. She brought her hand back, though, when he sat back and looked up at her, apparently even learning when scratching his ears was done.
She smiled brightly at him, looking as happy as might be physically possible for her to get. She was just in a great mood following the straining, but satisfying training and the whole encounter with Hiro. She liked his ability to critique her while she was working, and for being straight forward about it.
No p***y footing around, as it were.
"I think that might be for the best! My arms are burning," she laughed, knowing she still had some work to do to make sure her body was as used to using the javelin for prolonged periods. She was certainly glad for the boost she got from powering up, though. Once she powered down, she imagined she was going to enjoy a hot bath and then a long night's sleep.
Maybe with a movie playing as white noise for her to drift off to, and color her dreams. It sounded like a nice night in, after a great night out.
"Thank you for helping me again! You're such a good kitty. I mean, you know, a good trainer, too!" She laughed at herself, "I usually hunt around bars or downtown in the theatre district. So if you're ever around there, we should do this again!"

"Your body needs time to adjust to the new weapon," Hiro nodded as Painite spoke of her arms burning. "And to your new training regime. It'll come."
There was no way that Painite wouldn't end up an expert with her javelin. Brains, enthusiasm and determination - how could she not? Whoever had chosen to recruit her into the Negaverse had been a very smart person.
He took careful note of where Painite tended to hunt. "I'll remember that. I'll come search you out, check how things are going."

Painite nodded, then moved to dropped down to his level. When she had been a kid there had always been cats in the neighborhood, and she adored them, though it had been some years since then. During school she hadn't seen many and certainly hadn't had a pet, and hadn't known there was a talking variety until the first encounter with Hiro.
Still, talking or not, he was still a cat.
She took his little head in her hands and kissed him on the head before scratching his ears again. After that she got up, and waved, stretching her back before she made to head toward her house. She powered down for that, not wanting to be followed by anything less than nega on her way back to her home.
"See you next time! Thank you again for all your help!" she called over her shoulder brightly before heading off.
Humming happily, she thought about her next efforts with her weapon. She was dead set: she was going to learn everything she could about the javelin and different ways to use it. Next best thing to actual practice or even real fights? Watching movies. And that was next on her list.
