It was over, a nightmare in the past, and that helped ease the gentle shaking that had overtaken her. Small fingers pressing into his back where she clung to him. Her rock and her security, and in his arms once again she felt safe. The logic was flawed, she knew that, but she held to that lie and let it be her comfort. Head tipping up at the gentle brush of a kiss against raven hair, resting her brow against his lips.

There were tears clinging stubbornly to dark cheeks, but she refused to allow more to fall. It had been illusion, a trick of the mind. So terribly underhanded and cruel, and she refused to give it anything more. It could have her fear, for it had surely earned that, but that would be all. If she spoke of it again, ..no, when she spoke of it again, for there would be more that would ask, there would be no more tears. Only Sharra, her beloved, would know just how terribly the images had effected her.

With a quite sigh she let go of some of the tension that tightened her shoulder. Palms sliding up the length of his back so she could pull herself tighter against him. Leaning up to ghost a featherlight kiss along his lips before resting her chin upon the curve of his shoulder. "What about you, Love?" Her face turned so the words were murmured against the side of his throat. "What all has happened to my dark prince upon that cursed island?"

It was easy enough to be here, to do the things that he ought to have done in the climax of peril, to soothe her and cradle her in a steadfast embrace. But after he'd gently moved to brush those tears, caressing the distraught marid as she ever so slowly regained her poise....he knew it was his turn, and his....if only it had been something so faceless as a raging inferno...he might have felt more at ease sharing what phantasms the fog had brought up to torment him. And yet, for the simple fact that they had torn the fears from the depths of his very heart...he owed an honest explanation to Yaya all the more.

Tensing e'er so slightly, he held her close to his chest, needing the simple reassurance. "I saw....you. I heard you...but what I saw when the fog rose up to swallow us, to draw us all in...it sent...it sent the lot of us spiralling into madness. I had to practically slap Aksaja into sanity and....Riley too...I..." He halted, knowing he was unable to stall on this any longer. "When I saw you....you had been...." His breath hitched in his throat, the emotions that had nearly driven him mad then regaining strength, a throbbing undertone of upset, "...you had been ripped asunder, torn to shreds, just...just barely alive as though at any moment you might fade into your element and be gone forever." The nergal had shut his eyes, brows furrowing, as he summoned forth the memory. "You asked me why I hadn't been there. Why I'd left you...and I could hear my aunts...blaming me too...."

And then he had to will his gaze to her, to remind himself that she was here...whole...safe. A shame that...it wasn't the end of his trials on that adventure of theirs. He wasn't at all sure, how he'd share the next part of his tale.

She let him wipe the lonely tears from her cheeks, turning her face up to watch him with somber, swimming blues. The barest shadow of a smile tugging for an instant at the corner of her lips before slipping away. She drew clinging hands from around his waist so she could rest the pads of delicate fingers along the edge of this throat and the strong line of his jaw. Her touch every bit as soft as the expression he would find on exotic features. A gentle comfort as he shared his horrors with her and tightened his grip around her slight frame.

It pained her to see him so stricken, and she almost pressed a kiss to those pale lips to silence his story. Sorry for having asked, for making him relive this pain even if she had just done the same for him. Almost, but not. She let him continue, knowing it would, in the end, be therapeutic, even after he'd mentioned she'd had a staring role in his maddened visions.

It made her tense, and she fought to chase the tightness from her body as he described the state he had seen her in. Pomegranate lips pressing in a thin line as she slide the pads of her thumbs along his jaw. And she had thought her mind had held horrors. "It wasn't real.." she soothed, tipping his head down to her so she could lay a kiss at the corner of his mouth.

"We're alright, we both made it off that island whole." Her voice was a whisper against his cheek.

And his acid-bright eyes all but drank her in. Sharra had been too long without her, on the island, and that coupled with his waking nightmares of her, was enough to make him never want to look away. When Yaya watched him like that, her eyes and touch full of the tender emotions that had forever entangled his heart with her own. She was his own personal siren, always calling him back to her side...and the nergal prayed that would hold true for years to come. Cupping his human fingers about her own, he smiled weakly, not a true expression, but merely a sad shadow of what it should have been.

"I am happily aware that is the case..." He replied, nuzzling affectionately at the ghoul's soft cheek, "I would likely have truly lost myself otherwise. I feared for you...so terribly." But she did not blame him, by some strange miracle, and they had both miraculously emerged from the fog of the island, hopefully stronger individuals despite the torturous experience.

Her last, and potentially upbeat comment, made the boil flinch, fingers tightening a touch for just a fleeting second, hating that he had to continue. But Jack...she'd have his head if he didn't tell her the whole of things. "If only that was the case...." He muttered, a rather large sigh leaving his chest. "...something...else happened, when the lot of us went to the lighthouse." From what Sharra now understood, he hadn't been the only one to die, by far...but he had been the first to fall amongst his group of comrades.

The experience was one that he could not have been paid to repeat.

There had been smiles, terribly weak ones, but they were real, and they marked the start of the healing process. Where there was light, however faint, darkness could not consume. It gave the djinn hope, and she eagerly brushed her cheek against his in a tender nuzzle before drawing back so she could gaze up at her beloved nergal with that shadowed upturn of soft lips once again. Thumb trailing light along his pale skin in endless little strokes even as his hand came up to cradle her own.

"There was no physical danger lurking on that dark beach, and for that I am thankful." If there had been.. She would have been less then useless in anything resembling a fight, and escape would have been a wishful thought. Her ankle had left her at a distinct disadvantage. Still, she believed she'd done the right thing in sending him out to seek answers.

Least til he flinched, continuing on with a heavy sigh. Bright blues widening in apprehension as she stared up at him with parting lips. A thought frozen on her tongue, question or protest. So close to pressing a fingering to his mouth, to quiet the story he was about to share because she knew, somehow, that it would break her heart to hear it. She was tense now in his arms, and despite the steaming warmth of the water they were submerged in her skin ran cold.

Her voice was thick when she spoke, catching in her throat so the words were choppy and odd to the ear. "What.. What happened?" Her hand 'pon his cheek tensed, fingertips curling so the tips of her nails pressed against buttermilk skin.

The smiles were all for her, after all...as Sharra had never been entirely able to figure out just how she had so effortlessly ensnared him, caused him to stumble into rapturous, passionate love with her in a way that he'd never once thought to turn back. Now, he was grateful for that in a manner that the nergal had never been before, for without her, that thought of her awaiting him, he wasn't sure he would have been able to press on as he had. A shudder of an exhale escaped him, as her whispery touches further blew away his innermost worries.

"That was my great concern, but I still regret..." To hear her affirm it solidified some of the confidence that had dared to rear its head within his chest, and once more he squeezed her fingers between his own, unwilling to relinquish physical touch in the foreseeable future. He doubted that anyone would object, even the teachers had to regroup after that fiasco. "If ever we sojourn again in such a manner I'm going to be glued to you." That was more a mutter, brushing dampened hair back from his forehead with one clawflick.

But now, now he had to explain the darkest part of his journey, and it still caused panic to rise, swelling to choke him, as he remembered floating in the mists. "There were...a series of obstacles. There was a gap that we had to cross, with traps beneath. We'd not have been able to do it on our own, I think, but there was this fellow there who offered to float us across. From what I gather he was a touch spotty at it." Another weak smile, lacking all of his usual bluster. "He sort of...dropped me. It's rather hazy, but I remember a spike through my chest and a...a rather copious amount of blood and then..." He swallowed, eyes shutting as his shoulders hunched, a defensive reaction. "...then I was dead. And not like it usually is, there was no reforming, I was simply gone, insubstantial. It was terrifying. I could touch nothing, and all I could see was the mist, and a thousand forms around me, all of them more hopeless and lost than I was, but I...I don't even know...how long it lasted, or what happened after. I thought I'd be there forever. I really...thought I was dead for good."

Sharra's usually clear, calm voice had wavered, the throb of upset broadcasting through the words, and he lowered his head, tawny mop of hair obscuring his features a moment. Some part of him...felt shamed, even knowing that he had not been the only one to fall. "I've never felt so cowed by anything...and I truly thought...that I wouldn't get back to you." His tone had fallen to a whisper, and the nergal youth felt eyes sting, though the tears did not leave his lashes. For her...it was all for her, and he'd not fail her.

Anything lurking that may have stalked the beach had kept it's distance, and she was thankful for it. It meant she was safe, in a relative sense of the word, physically at the very least. Untouched by the island save for the swollen break of her ankle and the ghastly bruises that decorated it. It was a painful injury, utterly bothersome, but it would heal in time, and she would be on her feet again in no time. If only all their pain would fade as such, but alas, things never worked half so simply. His vow to keep to her side was one she happily accepted.

She clung to her nergal beloved as he began his tale, and with every small pause or subtle catch in his voice the mounting since of foreboding and dread grew. Her shoulders were tense with it, hands trembling where they rested at cheek and chest, even before he'd spoken the word that threatened to freeze her heart in her chest and let it beat no more. Dropped, he'd been dropped. Swimming pools of electric blue widened as she stared up at her boil, not even breathing as carried on in painful, heartbreaking detail. "Impaled," she whispered when he'd finished, voice barely above a whisper, but oddly loud within the quiet of her elegant bath with nothing but the gentle slosh of water to break the silence around them. It hadn't been what she'd meant to say, not even close, but the the original word had died on her tongue, pulled a whimper from her lips and fresh tears spilled along dirt peppered features. Died, her dearest love had died.

Yet here he was in her arms. What magic did she thank for his return to her? She didn't know, but she said a silent prayer in gratitude as she fought the helpless sob that threatened at the back of her throat.

Her palm slide along his cheek, hand shaking as fingers dipped within that dusty blonde mane, and she pulled him down to her so their brows met and she could look up at him from an inch away. "You're here now, with me." But he'd died.. "I'm never going to let you go, I promise." You couldn't have stopped this. Bright eyes slammed shut, and miserable whine emitted as she crawled more completely onto his lap, arms and legs wrapping around his paler frame. "I'm so sorry." For not being there, for not preventing it, for haunting his mind in that fog. Everything, anything to take that haunted look from his acidic eyes.
