A hiss left his lips as A10 sauntered closer, and he was torn. Let her rot, or-

"Goddamnit." He cursed under his breath, wrapping one arm around her waist and pulling her back. "Would you give me a break already? I don't know what your problem is, but I'm trying to keep us both alive."

Maybe he just wanted to make sure he got to kill her himself. Yeah, that was obviously why he was protecting her. That made much more sense.

"Now stay behind me, and shut up. I'm serious this time." He refused to look at her - his eyes were on the dragon this entire time. The other teammates were keeping it busy, throwing their weak attacks at the massive monster - who thought this was a good idea again? At least it wasn't looking at them. With all the back and forth these two had been doing, they probably looked like easy prey right about now.

[ A11 is ENTERING the thread and Attacking the Boss ]

As A11 reached the -whatever it was- she decided once and for all that she was not in any reality she had known before. The thing that stood before them, well, she couldn't think of a name for it. It reminded her of several things (she wasn't quite sure how though). Her mind did seem to think it impossible, though. Impossible, like everything else.

Others were attacking the dragon-horse thing (again, no real name for it), even though it hadn't done anything to them. Yet. Perhaps, perhaps this is what they mean by surviving? We have to fight things like this? That...that would make her happy. It would mean they don't have to fight each other.

Something caught her eye. Oh! What was that? Could that be...a pendant? Like in the message? If it was...it wouldn't hurt to get it from the horse-dragon. Besides, she thought, as she pulled out her handgun, it doesn't look friendly.

She fumbled with her gun for a moment before firing it at the beast. Her shot went wide, not even hitting the thing. Firing a gun, even if it only has rubber pellets, was harder than she thought it would be.

As she attempted to reload and ready her gun, another question crossed her mind.
"Why hasn't it attacked us yet?"

{Z12 entering and attacking the boss}

What was that?! "AAAAAAAAHHH!!" Z12 went to cup his mouth to halt his scream, but met only with the face of his mask. What was this? A giant horse. A building sized animal that breathed fire! Z12 trembled with terror, grasping his dagger tightly. Thank goodness for gloves. Had he not had them, his sweaty palms would have made gripping this thing impossible.
He swallowed hard, trusting in the fight. It seemed the creature had something they needed...

The frightened Z12 lunged forward, somehow his feet going on their own toward the gigantic creature, to slash away at one if it's legs.

Dear God, please don't let him step on me...

[Z4 entering and attacking Boss Pony]

Z4 came jogging up the rear, panting heavily as the massive "pony" came thundering down, his legs threatening to give out. What... in BLAZES was THAT?? He couldn't remember if this was normal or not- he couldn't remember anything, of course. But... but... they could do it! They could do it if they all pulled together and-

He winced as several of his "Team mates" accidentally hit themselves in the frantic chaos of battle. Well... well it was a good try, right?

His hands shaking, his club was ready, and with a mighty shout of "DON'T WORRY, MISS EIGHT I WILL SAVE YOU!" He charged-

The ground heaved again under the monster horse's massive hooves, and the poor soldier in orange suddenly toppled to the sand, his mace falling on his own head.

Well, that was not how he had planned things at all.

Oh now wasn't that all kinds of adorable? Admittedly A-3's eyes grew a bit wide beneath his mask, and he wondered just what sort of creature this was...however, it was clearly a foe, even more of an opponent than these chaps in orange, and certainly all kinds of malevolent. Moving, he took advantage of what he rather hoped was a jolly good bit of maneuvering skill, and came at it from the side, crossed his fingers, hoped for no retaliation, and took a swipe at it with his dagger.

Not a horrible hit, all told, it could have been about fifteen flavors of worse, now couldn't it have been? Now if only he could get his heart to stop hammering fiercely. He was not a man with many qualms, but a beast such as this one? "Wondrous. I'm fairly sure that we weren't briefed for this pre-memory loss." He muttered to himself. Though in all truth...he hadn't the faintest idea. That was the trouble with losing one's memories. Though if the present were any indication...

...oh right yes. Flaming horse beastie from hell.

[Z 7, dramatic entrance and kicking the Boss pony, die roll: 6]

Jesus tap dancing Christ, what the hell was that thing!?

Z 7 was rushing to catch up with the others, letting out thunderous steps as he arrived not long after Z 4, as the giant pony came into view. Seriously, if a pony is that big, can it really be considered as one anymore? And he watched in horror as the Zeta squad went running up to the blasted thing to hit it. "IT BUCKS, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING!"

Even worse, they were hitting themselves in the process. Z 7 practically had to resist doing a facepalm in such a serious situation. No time for that. Enemy is a giant horse that's going to squash everyone.
Z 7 won't lie, his hands were shaking, palms were sweaty.

It was time to see if he was a good shot as he shouldered his gun and lined up the sights at the rampaging beasts skull. Back the hell up beast! he said as he dug in his heels and tapped the trigger.

The sound of the shot was loud, driving home the thought that it wasn't a toy gun. Its bullets weren't metal jackets but it would still hurt. The kickback was surprising, as it knocked his arm back. But the shot was fired and glanced off its snout. Maybe he got lucky, but he hoped he could pull it off again. "Ha, eat it pony!" Was he feeling cocky? Maybe a little bit.

[A8 is ENTERING & ATTACKING the Boss Pony]

He held back a couple feet while the others rushed in to try and take the pendant from the over-sized horse's neck. Their efforts were mostly piss poor and it became very evident that all of them had little experience in wielding their given weapon. Recklessly swinging sticks and clubs, they all looked like a kindergarten play about cavemen. s**t, he was laughing again. No, no, he should stop. Even if he could imagine them being squashed like bugs as they dumbly swung their weapons at nothing, but air. Stop he told himself. Now wasn't the time for amusement at their expense. Nope, he had more important matters to attend to. Like that pendent. He needed that piece of jewelry if he wanted to make it past day seven. Slipping past his teammates and future enemies, Alpha Eight made his way towards the giant boss. At least he knew how to make a fist which seemed to put him a few steps above some of his teammates.

"Guess I'll let you guys fight the other boss since you aren't having much luck with this one. Hahahaha."

Making sure his first aid kit and extra bandages were securely put away, he made a jump and tried to bring both fists to hit the horse's neck. After making contact and then bouncing back, he found his fists didn't have that much of an effect. Fantastic. Really, just wonderful. Now he was stuck waiting on the others to figure how to hold their weapons. What a lovely turn of events. s**t, he was snickering. This was another one of those times he questioned his sense of humor or rather his grasp on sanity. Whatever, might as well enjoy the show.

[Z5 is ENTERING and ATTACKING]

Terror struck through Uptight as he came crashing through the trees and to their opponent. He felt like mentally shitting himself. A dream. This had to be some ******** up dream. He stumbled back watching as his allies laid siege upon the beast.

His eyes went up to the shiny thing around its neck. He'd heard that if you died in a dream sometimes people would die for real. He felt his heart twist a bit. Was this one of those dreams? It felt real enough. His hand tightened on his mace and he looked up at the beast.

Well, he wasn't dying in a dream without a fight and if it was real, he wasn't going to let his allies get killed. He was a solider! He was made for this!

With a loud yell the young man rushed the beast's front legs and tried to swing his mace wildly at the right one. Only to slam the thing into himself. He stumbled back and held his face with a grimace. He'd better have not broke his mask!

Alpha Twelve ran somewhere behind Zeta Eight, the female taking off with amazing speed. Perhaps clutching it to her chest wasn't the best move to do this time-- she followed in the other's suit, to attach the straps o her waist. Her feet didn't slip in the sand like some others, due to her slow and delicate pace.

Alpha Twelve was debatable-- as another said, she was a follower. Never a leader. But that didn't mean she was useless. Leaping forward, Alpha twelve caught Zeta Eight, both hands opened wide to prevent the female from falling on the slippery pliable footing of the sand.

"B-Be careful, Zeta Eight." Alpha Twelve voiced shakily, letting go to shakily withdraw her own mace. Alpha Twelve looked a little like a mouse sneaking out to whip it's tail at it's aggressor. She ran several steps forward spinning around in a attempt to add momentum to the degree of pain. But instead, she spun .. and promptly spun herself out of the way and trip instead.

Spinning on sand wasn't very smart.

(( a5 Entering and attacking Boss ))

Fiver was still screaming out his battle cry as he charged toward the Boss - which appeared to be some kind of My Little Pony on CRACK. Not that he was entirely sure what that referred to, but HEY. It sounded cool and dangerous at the same time, so he'd take it.

Unfortunately, waving the mace around in the air before really wasn't enough "practice" to equip him to use it very well and as he swung at the beastie, he missed .... and hit himself in the leg instead. "OW ********!" Fiver yelped, stumbling backwards. Thaaaaat didn't work so well.

[ Zeta One Entering and Attacking Boss ]

Once Zeta One made her way down to the beach and frowned at the thing her other team mates (and another team it seemed) were fighting. It was... it was... it reminded her of something, but what, she couldn't remember.

Regardless, she yelled some kind of charge and ran up to the beast to hit it with her nunchucks. One of them, in her wild flailing, hit her in the head and she stumbled a little.

"Okay, no flailing..." she muttered, continuing to smack the beast with her weapon.

It was only after she was a good distance away from the creature that Zeta Eight hunched over a bit to examine her dislocated shoulder, making very sure that there was a very low probability that it would be able to lash back out at her before she removed her hand, fingers tight and curled beneath her glove. Beneath it, she could see the bone of her arm hanging disjointedly out of place, the stretch of black and orange armor where it had to account for the sudden extra length. It was... fascinating, really... this first new injury. With no memory, the concept of pain was only a figment of their subconscious, an instinct that told them to avoid it completely but dish it out cold. But this... this was real, and from the way she was staring at it through the orange tint of her gas mask, she was positively enthralled by it. And it was painful, to be sure -- there was a white-hot pull beneath her skin, muscles contracting spasmodically from the straining, unnatural pull of sinew -- but it certainly wasn't a debilitating one, not yet.

Reaching over to grab her limp arm, the Zeta 'soldier' paused for a second to consider the options in this situation, momentarily bewildered. Having no recollection of anything, she had no idea what to do. Had she not been wearing the mask, she might have been making a rather comically curious face, eyebrows furrowed in complete bafflement... but probably not. Instead, she merely stared at it, her mask displaying an unblinking gaze before attempting to shove her arm back up into place with a rough, jerking motion. Thankfully, it wasn't a bad dislocation -- with an audible -POP- the bone slid back into place, armor unstretching accommodatingly once more.

There was a sense of vertigo, and a stabbing sense of nausea.

Zeta Eight didn't realized she was falling until she felt a smaller, more delicate form suddenly catch her weight -- thin, feminine arms wrapping around her own to make sure she didn't collapse to the sand. Snapping her gaze towards her savior (captor?) she reached out to grab onto the girl's arm, tightening it threateningly until she realized who it was.

"Alpha Twelve?"

Monotone though it was, there was a hint of surprise in her impersonal tone, her fingers uncurling from the smaller girl's arm as she straightened, rebalancing herself on the unsteady sand and watching as Alpha Twelve suddenly took off. Perhaps it was the fact that she looked so sad, swinging that monstrous mace. Perhaps it was a sense of debt. Whatever the reason, Zeta Eight dashed back into the fray with only a second's hesitation, darting around other red and orange uniforms to grab Alpha Twelve around the waist, grabbing the weapon before it fell to heavily on top of her and pulling her back out of the fray, tripping in the sand in her haste and sending them both to the ground.

It wasn't very graceful, but it seemed A12 hadn't hurt herself too bad.

"I could say the same to you." she replied, shoving herself back to her feet and tossing the weapon onto the sand next to the girl, not bothering to brush off.

Taking a step back from that hit, A-Three composed himself and took a look at the situation, almost disappointed in himself for barreling headlong into conflict...and only taking marginal stock of his surroundings beforehand. Really, not the way to go, especially when the backstabbing could start at any given moment. Eyes narrowing, he made mental notes as to where both A-Eight and A-Five were. Yes, the medic would definitely have to go, he was too unstable to live, and there were likely half a dozen people between the two teams who could do a better, more reliable and far more self-sacrificing job of it. It really figured their one medic would be a headcase.

Oh, and joy, A-Five had clocked himself again. Adorable. Really, he didn't have enough brain cells to spare, doing that, but at least he wasn't getting embroiled in petty little disputes and trying overhard to keep others safe...like his brawny companion A-Seven. "Careful there." He called over to Fiver, "Your weapon seems a touch double-edged." It was said in such a tone that it really wasn't mockery. Well...not really.

But really, beyond all the charming interactions going on in the sand...the creature before them was rather intriguing. It was almost a shame that the beast couldn't be tamed and ridden. Imagine pillaging one's way through the fog on a beast that seemed to have descended out of nightmare on clouds of roiling smoke.

He had to stop that. It was far too poetic.
PostPosted: Sun Apr 03, 2011 5:18 pm

Spotting Three, Fiver moved over closer to the other male, especially as he was now commenting on his prowess with this new weapon. "They should've had training classes or something," he muttered - as if somehow that made his smacking himself a little more acceptable. Maybe.

But so far as he was concerned, he was rather hoping this Death Pony Thing would kill off a*****e and Uptight and take care of those problems FOR him...

(( A1 has entered and is attacking Boss Pony.))

A-One's steps slowed briefly as he got a better look at what they faced. "Impossible," he muttered. it shouldn't be that big, and it shouldn't breathe fire. Maybe this was still a dream after all. That didn't mean he could be reckless. He didn't care to test the theory by dying and discovering, or not discovering, that actually it had just been death. He watched for an opening; when he saw one, he ran in and took a good hard swing at the Death Pony's hind leg.

The business ends of the nunchuks hit solidly. He had half an instant to be pleased about that before they rebounded and smacked him hard in the face. Once again, thank goodness for the mask - it'd probably just kept him from breaking his own nose or blacking his eyes. As it was, he'd made himself dizzy.

He staggered back, shook his head, got has balance again, and tossed the nunchuks away with an angry growl. He'd use his fists. Might not hurt the thing as much, but he suspected he had much less chance of clocking himself that way. He hoped that his mistake hadn't been seen by too many people - what kind of idiot leader fumbled things like that? He'd taken the role, and now he'd better make sure everyone else respected him at least enough to listen once in a while.
