Yes. She murmured hesitantly. Well. Aren't we all. She remained resting on her elbows, as if this position was on purpose, and not at all the result of almost falling off the roof. I can only hope she will not try to attack my tentacles again? They are rather sensitive, and I would not appreciate it.
Riley's bright, glowing eyes flashed just slightly as she turned to glare at the minipet. What was it about her and felines, anyway? She never could figure it out.

"He likes to bite my tail too."
And his books, furniture, homework, other minipets, and anything else mistakenly left within reach of an unsupervised hel-lion. If that was any sort of a consolation, Sheridan hoped it was at least a small one. At least Riley would know it wasn't just here?
Tanaka's tail twitched, a rather indignant glare of his own shot at the purple being. Hmph, as if he was afraid of her, AND HE WAS NOT A SHE! He would have stuck his tongue at her, that is if his eye hadn't caught sight of those tentacles again. A paw reached out--
"Don't even think about it."
Sheridan had stopped him before he could get any further than that, he did not want a repeat of nearly falling off the roof tonight thank you very much. A huff and an -adorable- pout, the hel-lion settled into his owner's lap, oh but he wouldn't forget, he'd get that purple thing later!
"Behave or You're going back inside."
What, he wasn't doing anything! Hmph, fine!
"Sorry, you didn't come up here just to be bitten by my cat."
Sheridan couldn't help apologizing again. One hand reached for his book, maybe he should go inside for the night...

That is correct. I did not. Riley's tentacles tightened up even closer to her head, curled into those buns to keep them from being reachable. As Sheridan reached for his book, Riley put her hand on top of his and stopped the movement. What were you reading? I am surprised you have a book up here, if you love looking up at the stars so.

"There is much about me that would surprise you."
His tail twitched, one hand idly petting his cat who seemed, for the moment at least, content stretched out on the dragon's lap, furry little monster though he was. At least the cat liked him (anyone else who dared try to touch him would have had their face eaten), Sheridan supposed he liked him too...sometimes.
Sheridan moved his hand from the book, indicating to Riley that she was free to look at it if she wished. It was a hard bound book, a few hundred pages long. Were one to open it, they would find the spine cracked and worn, causing the pages to easily lay flat, some more easily than others, as if the book remembered favorite pages and instantly fell open to those. The book was heavily worn, though not from age itself, but rather from many nights spent reading it from cover to cover, pouring over the words, debating the meaning of what was written inside. On the cover was a name, presumably the author, "Hawking".

That sounds like a challenge. She responded without waiting a beat. You'd be surprised how much I enjoy surprises. Tell me something about yourself, Sheridan. I would thoroughly enjoy learning about your species and culture. I am very interested in such things.
She took the book, and cracked it open carefully. One brow lifted as she flipped through it's pages. It all looked familiar. Physics, hmm? So I take it you enjoy the sciences? A worthy use of time, I would say.

"We all seek to find meaning in the universe in our own way, I choose to do so through science."
On his lap, the twitch of a tufted tail. It was a warning, stop touching me or I will sink my teeth into your face! Even Sheridan was not safe from the hel-lion's fangs, though the fact he had not been bitten yet was proof that the cat actually did like him, not that that was going to stop him from being the furry little monster he was.
Sheridan was smart enough to heed the warning, his own tail twitching as his gaze again turned to the stars. It was as if he were drawn to them, a tug on his soul that he could not resist. Perhaps the legends really were true, for every dragon, there was a star. Looking up, he wondered which star was his.

Meaning. Riley watched Sheridan turn to gaze at the stars, but her own eyes were fixed very flatly upon him. In the universe. Her voice was, perhaps, a little deadpan. You are studying science to learn, ah, meaning in the universe?
The idea evaded her. She felt uncomfortable that she could not grasp exactly what he meant, and a certain shuffling of position occurred in response to her discomfort.
Perhaps you could enlighten me on what you mean? I am surprisingly perplexed. Somehow I get the feeling you do not mean that you are trying to figure out the factual scientific explanation for the existence of the universe as a whole.

"That is exactly what I mean. The theory of everything comes close, but there are still questions left, things that do not fit."
Such as gravity, it was there, it affected everything, but it just didn't fit, why didn't it fit? It was frustrating, how close science was to making sense of everything, to finding all the answers, and yet when it was just within grasp it was suddenly light years away again.
"If you were expecting a philosophical answer, you are speaking to the wrong dragon."
Such things were better left to the metallic dragons. Sheridan was not interested in philosophy, there was no greater purpose, no mystical plan. Everything that existed had a scientific explanation, it could be proven or disproved, everything answered to science.

If Riley could have smiled, she would have. She relaxed visibly, instantly comforted by the idea that Sheridan wasn't trying to figure out some philosophical debate. It was science, pure and simple. Much more her style.
We are of like mind, then. It is pleasant to note such. Always a pleasure to get to know someone better, and find out they have similar tastes.
She turned her head and looked over the edge of the building, before returning to Sheridan with a content gaze. I should probably head back to my dorm. I have some work to finish up before the next day begins, and it looks as though my pet has returned from her hunt. Below, the celestial wolf was sitting on its rump, looking up at its mistress triumphantly with a rather still looking mouthful of something in its jowls. Riley gave Sheridan a soft wave. Until we meet again. She murmured, before tilting back and flipping right off the edge of the building.
There would be no thump, as Sheridan might have expected from someone who just jumped off a building, but instead if he was quick enough to look, he would find her taking hold of the windows and hopping from one to another, claws digging hard into the brick as she headed down.
Once on the ground, she snapped her fingers and the celestial wolf was on its feet, loping towards her obediently and falling into place beside her.

"Until that time then."
Sheridan raised a brow at Riley's chosen exit. Well alright then, that was unexpected, though it was hardly surprising. A few moments later and she was gone, and Sheridan was left alone in the peaceful silence of night.
His gaze turned to the hel-lion who seemed quite comfortable on his lap, almost comfortable for Sheridan to think he might have fallen asleep.
"I suppose we should turn in for the night as well."
Fall asleep outside on the roof with the fuzzy monster free to roam around the school and reek havoc wherever he wished? Not a chance.
Another look up at the stars, he gathered his book and telescope in one hand and Tanaka in the other (don't you -dare- bite me!), Sheridan spread his wings and leapt from the roof. Unlike Riley, his target was not the ground, instead he circled the dorm until he found his own window, settling on the ledge before stepping into his room. The moment they were inside, Tanaka wriggled out of the dragon's grasp, leaping onto a high shelf where he promptly curled up for the night.
"Good night, monster."
The comment was ignored, as was the sound of the closing window. It was time to settle in for the night, sleep sounded like a good idea.
