Riley curled her arm around Malodore's and let it lead the way with a nod.
You don't understand their purpose because you don't have to worry about aging skin, cara mia. Some of us won't always look this beautiful. Even though it seems silly, some will do anything in an attempt to stay young. Mudbaths help keep the skin soft, and supple - and cucumber slices eliminate bags under the eyes. I've never used them, of course. She made a motion with her hands as if to brush off the idea. But I'm sure they have their application. I, however, feel caked with mud already. All I want to do is get it off. She chuckled lightly. I don't know if I've ever felt so uncomfortable in my own clothes, in my entire life.

Malodore opened the door for her and bowed her through; though its head felt disconcertingly naked without the hat on, it allowed her to keep it.... for now, anyway. "I agree. I... don't even care if you see me without my bandages on. These, as they are now..." It squirmed uncomfortably. "They are worse than being uncovered. Much worse."
Ugh, it felt like there was grit in the sockets of its backblades, too... "Let's hurry," it said, gesturing to the stairs leading tot he next level. "These should be the cleanest. The lower showers are sometimes a bit... gooey."

Riley had thought about that fact, when she first asked if it was all right with her accompanying it. Hearing Malodore say that it didn't care about the bandages out loud, however, was very touching. Even as they walked, she sent it an affectionate nudge. I'm flattered, to be quite honest. Your trust means everything to me, and I'm glad you're comfortable enough to let me be with you. And.. I'm also glad because I feel disgusting right now, as well. She laughed.
The idea of showers being gooey, however, made her stomach unsettle a bit. She was used to the demon showers, which were very fancy and fairly private. She never needed the privacy, as she placed little importance on physical exposure - but cleanliness was a key factor in comfort.
So the upper level sounded much better to her, as well. As she headed up, she gave it a cheeky look. Don't worry. If anyone barges in, I'll hide you with my own body. Nobody will see you but me.

"Grazie," Malodore said, opening its beak in a smile. It closed the door firmly behind her and headed up the stairs. The bathrooms were fairly close to this set of stairs. The plague doctor picked one at random.
There was nobody in any of the stalls, and it hurried back to the showers to see with relief that nobody was there, either. There were curtains to be drawn around the various 'stalls', but the showers weren't terribly private regardless. Still, it did cordon off a few showerheads with an array of curtains, just for its own sake.
Thus, with its fortress of shower-tude complete, it turned to Riley with another bashful duck. "Will this suffice?"

Riley was relieved to see that the showers were in fact quite clean, and took a deep breath. She quirked a brow as she watched Malodore check for any occupants, finding a helpless amusement in the action. She knew she was probably the exact opposite when it came to privacy, as she would take her showers in public if it suited the situation - the body was just another fleshy shell for the mind, and it was not something she was shy about.
As she was trapped in a fortress of curtains, she rested her back on the wall beside the shower and nodded. Of course. She murmured quietly, her eyes crescenting at its bashfulness. She rarely had the chance to see Malodore act so adorable and shy, and she relished it. It was charming to a fault.
Then she realized she was standing in a shower wearing pants and a bathing suit. And she felt a little silly herself. Ah, well, one second. She tugged her heels off, and her dirtied, white pants came next. She left the bathing suit for now.
These.. are going straight in the trash. She mourned the loss of her poor, shredded pants before throwing them outside the curtain.

Malodore quickly turned on the shower heads it had cordoned off - two of them, side by side. The water jetted out immediately, steaming hot; Malodore gently plucked its hat off of Riley's head and held it under the water. That particular article of clothing had been through a lot... and it would make it through this as well. The plague doctor set the hat aside for laundering, hanging it atop the tap before looking at Riley.
"... You are an excellent example of your species, anatomically speaking," it said, after a moment.

Somehow, Riley had all but forgotten that she'd stolen Malodore's hat. She almost felt guilty about it, since she could have gotten it wet unintentionally - but that guilt disappeared as soon as she watched it take the hat and wash it off.
Riley found the compliment amusing, and her eyes crescented in lieu of a grin. Actually, she corrected as she pushed herself off of the wall. I'm an excellent example of the Drow species. That was the species this body came from, after all. My species' physical attributes can all be found from here - She held her hand to her neck and rose it upward to the top of her head - To here. Everything else.. well. I work very hard to maintain a strong physique. Look! She turned to one side, and held her arm up. Clenching the muscles within, she pointed out a few that were actually visible when clenched. Not many people take care of each individual muscle in their exercise routine, but I have a full anatomical layout in my mind. When I spend my time at the gym, I have a set of repetitions that tone each individual muscle. There, you can see the deltoid emerging here. She reached down and brought it's claw up to feel the muscle, before letting both her and its arm fall. She reached up and plucked at the top of Malodores jacket, undoing the buttons with a claw. Everything on the body has a purpose, after all. Otherwise I wouldn't have it.

Malodore tilted its head to one side, opening its beak in a smile. "I confess to some envy on that front. I don't even have a complete set of muscles, let alone such a meticulously well-tended physique." It ducked away at that - knowing that Riley would have to truly see its undead form now, as opposed to just the bandages.
Ugh. The bandages. The plague doctor took off its coat as quickly as it could, working it slowly over the backblades before dropping it to the ground. Its form remained wrapped in bandages... very very clearly overused bandages, no longer tightly wound but drooping and showing vgaps in places, thickly stained by sea, sand, and the usual blood. The plague doctor made a noise of disgust and stepped under the shower's spray, sighing in relief as the water hit it. "Foolish, isn't it? Earlier I was so concerned about you seeing, but now... all I can think of is getting this grit off of me." It shook its head and worked some of the bandages out from under its mask, wincing as bits of sand dug into its flesh.

Don't put too much importance on the flesh. After all, no matter how hard I might work at it, it's all temporary. Only the mind is forever. But even as she said this, she leaned back on the wall of the shower and watched it with a strange, brightened gaze. She was enraptured, clearly, because she was being given a rare and precious glimpse at something no one else would ever get to see. It was the kind of thing that fed her true desires for knowledge, and she looked very hungry.
She wasn't even under the shower yet, she seemed to be just watching. If her bathing suit felt this uncomfortable, she could only just imagine how uncomfortable it would be to be completely wrapped in bandages that had been soiled by the salt of the sea and the sand and gravel they had traveled on. She felt a stab of sympathy, and pushed off the wall to help Malodore remove it's bandages. Her own skin felt the hot spray of water barely brushing across it as she stood so close. And here I was, selfishly thinking I was uncomfortable. It's hard to imagine how all of this feels to you.

"I usually take sponge baths to avoid having to use the public facilities," Malodore admitted, tilting its head up to run water just behind its mask; for a moment, its voice garbled and its vision flickered as the mask shifted. Beneath the bandages, its neck and head were actually in the best shape of any of its body - there was no skin anywhere, true, but there was also no bone visible and the musculature seemed complete.
Which was far from true for the rest of it. Half its ribcage was bereft of organs and muscles both, and its arms were largely fleshless, only a few tendons and strands of musculature here and there. The plague doctor had, out of a last fit of modesty it had to maintain, draped a towel around its hipbones. Its upper thighs were fairly well muscled, but below the knees its musculature again dropped to almost nothing. This all became quite visible as the bandages sloughed off, puddling at Malodore's hooves.
The plague doctor sighed with relief. "Candlejack, that feels good." It tensed oddly for a moment, and its backblades fell out with a series of clinks, giving further relief as water washed away the sand that had become embedded in the sockets. "Remind me never go to to the beach again?"

Riley bent down and gathered all of the fallen bandages, moving them out of the way so neither of them would tangle or trip on them. She did the same with Malodore's backblades, and then used her own claw to snap the cord that would normally hold her bathing suit up. It fell limp against her shoulders, but her bathing suit remained exactly where it was.
Look at this, do you see this? Ridiculous. If my body is stained red from this, I will not be pleased. She moved to stand under the second shower head, wincing as the water hit her tentacles first. She pulled her head away, not particularly enjoying the way that felt, and let her skin get soaked thoroughly before she even attempted to remove the cloth from her skin. She poked at the sequins idly, and then felt the sagging of the cloth on it's own. One look underneath told her that her skin wasn't stained. Thank Jack, she growled as it slipped off and she washed off the grime and salt from her skin. Her head tilted to one side as she bent to adjust the shower's heat - it was far too hot for her tentacles to handle as it was. The rest of her body approved, but not there.

Malodore closed its eyes and pulled the mask back from its face a bit; it parted momentarily, the band stretching as it would only do for Malodore itself... or an elder plague doctor exerting its own will. For an instant, the plague doctor went blind; the mask dulled, all signs of life departing from it as sensory input was severed, lower beak hanging uselessly open in a parody of a smile.
And then, once all the sand that had worked its way under the edges was gone, it put it back. Sight and feeling rushed back in an instant as the mask sealed itself to Malodore's flesh once more. "I hate doing that," Malodore muttered. But it was worth it to not feel the grit rubbing into its flesh. It carefully rinsed under the band, too, then grabbed the soap. The sense of needful cleanliness was so great that it didn't even care that Riley was there watching it.
... Besides, she'd been inside its head. What more was there, really? (Still, the towel around its hips stayed firmly in place. Some things were, at least psychologically, important.)
Once it felt clean, it stood under the water for a bit longer. Just relaxing.

The water had cooled down just enough that Riley felt comfortable putting her tentacles underneath it. This was a good thing, because she didn't realize she was letting the water run over her head when she turned to look at what Malodore was doing. Was it.. was that..
This was, pretty much, the best day of her life.
She registered everything as it happened, committing it to memory. It was the most interesting thing she'd ever seen, and she'd probably replay it several times later on. When the mask returned and came to life once more, Riley sucked in a sharp breath.
She pretty much had forgotten to even attempt to wash herself, and she shook her head to try and regain some semblence of thought. Right. Showering. Not just.. standing here witnessing the coolest thing she'd ever seen in her entire life. Can I borrow the soap, when you're done? She asked in a strangely humbled voice, holding her hand out.

"Ah - si..." Malodore quickly handed over the soap, though it carefully kept its gaze averted from her unclothed form. "The towels are outside, once we are done."
First, though, it would need to dry off, put its back-blades in their sockets once more, and then wrap itself up in its bandages. The thought of clean bandages, really really clean bandages... oh, that was almost too good to be true.

Riley took the soap, and began a thorough scouring of the disgusting feeling this entire trip had left on her person. Head to toe, until she was bubbly, and then she rinsed and shook herself. She literally let out a little scream as she felt the wondrous feeling of being clean once more. Her muscles felt relaxed, the tension was almost gone, and it was just.. nice.
I used to love the sea. Riley hummed quietly as she turned the water off, and walked out of the shower to snatch a towel. But now.. no. She put the towel around her shoulders and crossed her arms stubbornly. You know what? I still love the sea. I won't let this trip take that away from me. She took the towel back up, and dried her tentacles off, one by one, with a fierce rubbing. Then she wrapped the towel around her body, and tied it off under her arm.
Okay. She chirped out, clearly in a better mood now that she was clean and warm. She picked up Malodore's back blades without being asked. Tell me when you're ready.
