Moon at Dawn
Journal Entry, ¦¦/¦¦/¦¦

Zach sighed. This man is probably going to be dangerous if they ever set out "I highly doubt highborn children will fall for that. You must remember no matter what they seem to the crowd, their knowledge at their age already surpassed a priest's."

He stood up. "We really can't make a move until the kidnapper do."

[My posts are long. Sorry for the wait-- here you go! ]

[Araxon's Plight:]

“Bastards.”
Silence in the green depths of Lunis's Midnight deciduous was broken by the sound of Araxon's crashing baritone, a growl to escape firey the pursed lips of the youth to wield them.

“Nay a search party-- but a gods-damn search-orgy...” A lithe body weaved in and out of the blue and green stalks of baby trees, their bushy fronds of leaves brushed into his grimaced face. Through this tangle of flora, Araxon could detect the wet scent of Lunis to unfold beneath dry desert air.

Where pointed leather shoes stopped, the forest's reach tapered out, and the Tralus Borderlands stretched, a claim of neutral territory to buffer dispute between the Northern conservatism of Lunis and the southern liberals of Solis.

“Solis, south. South. Solis-south. Solis.” Araxon couldn't help but mutter the direction's chant, feeling that to better embrace his predicament, his speech would strengthen it.
“But...What's strength anyway?” He asked top the air, to no one is particular,” But the exploitation of those weaker than yourself.”

“...Perfect.” Spoke he, stepping away from the shrinking forms of trees, his shoes taking past the stable soils of Lunis to the shifting of-- sands of-- “OI!”

Araxon's spatted curse turned into a muffled grunt as he lost his footing in the increasingly infernal shifts of sand; his body tumbling into it. “This is my blasted father's fault...”
Even as he spoke this, the golden rays of light bit into his gaze and caused his closing vision to replay the ever-unforgiving form of Svarrian.
Araxon sighed and stared deeper into his mental picture to reveal his father's reptilian skull, yellow crystals for eyes glaring at the towered interior of Lunis's Araneth's kingdoms. His father, as Araxon was half entailed was of the Naga race, the word enough to summon visions of serpentine sea-dragons, scales in shades of blue; a shimmering advent to death-at-sea.
Although in the more civilized years of Aeternum, Nagas garnered a more peaceable reputation, Araxon could feel his jaw grinding down as he imaged his father to erase their rise.

“'Respect your elders', he says, but does he not respect the real Elders.” Araxon was standing now, brushing off the finality of his falling faux pas in a trail of golden dust.

He blinked, casting away his hateful father's image and took care to secure the pack of valuables at his back. At about half of the worth of the Kingdom crammed within the Spell-Bound confines of his messenger bag, Araxon's plight would offer up quite a sum for anyone willing to travel the distance.

"Children are stupid no matter their age or knowledge. I highly doubt those snot nosed brats are thinking clearly when their in a situation such as this. Logic never seems to occur to one when one is frightened."Glyss said while taking an ale off of the tray of a passing bar wench and took a hefty gulp. It had been days since he had anything that quenched his thirst, and figured it would be a few more days until he had something like that again. Supplies of his own were non existent and he didn't expect any of these old fools to share.

"You seem to have a lot of confidence in these brats, boy. It isn't very wise."Glyss sneered at the other as he stood up as well. "Waiting for the kidnapper is like waiting for him to cut their heads off. That's something I won't allow. I know this world like the back of my hand as I traveled it many times in my long life. Nothing has escaped me and neither will a couple of brats. So if you wish to join me, then fine. If you want to wait and see if the children turn up dead then be my guest."He gave a curt nod to the mercenaries in front of him and stalked out of the bar. It was starting to look like he would have to go on this boring adventure on his own. Perhaps it was for the best. Still, he would've liked to see them tear each other apart.

He would start heading south, towards the dessert and make his way to the ocean from there. Glyss swiped a few apples from a distracted woman and went on his way out of Araneth.

His covered feet touched the shifting sand while he bitterly munched into the apple. He hated sand as it managed to find itself in every nook and cranny and took forever to shake out. Glyss urged himself to move forward into the unforgiving heat and the vicious sand, hating every second of it.

{ o o c. Glyss is on his way to meet Araxon. If Zach joins they can move on from there. }

[My post is underway! biggrin Let's see how much I can get done in 30 minutes, before my next class. xD
Also, that sounds like a fitting idea. I like how we're developing into the conflict immediately. Also, I want to know if anyone has read the earlier stories here: https://sites.google.com/site/atlasaeternum/home
In the last book in particular, I find some irony with the 'lies' Glyss is spreading about children in the Spine of Chaos.
Good writing to you! ]

“Araxon, do inform me,” Spoke the hissing form of his father, erect, his yellow eyes burning into the Lunis's teal marshlands.
“Of the nature of your thought process...” He continued, turning to focus these burning orbs upon his son, his own azure scale reflecting his father's wrath, “Justify your lacking of attendance with me in Theruian's Plight.”

Araxon was silent, he only gazed back with his mother's greens, capturing the entirety of this ire, and shining it back at his father.
“Justify destroying the lives of thousands to steal a transient vice.”
Svarrian's vision at once contorted into the disharmony-of-an-expression that Araxon frequented as the: 'rageface'. Burning fury to sizzle as suns in those reptilian sockets--

“Open your eyes, kid.” Blessed to the sound of his own reassuring, yet hoarse voice, was Araxon, ever pacing, flickered open his lids, the black-tinted memory flashing back into the screaming shades of daylight. Here, he could survey the dessert since his beginning had expanded out into rising peaks of golden sand, interspersed with the worthless gladrra crystal, a rock with no magical quality but to catch the eyes.
Or claw into them. Or burn them with the moon's hatred.

“Don't they call this place the yellow-crystal-road?” He murmured, hasting up a side of a sand peak, slipping and tumbling in a mass on the opposite side. On the other side was the expanse of those burnt Violet peaks of Saffronia's gate, a circle of thin moutains to guard the city itself within. Across this, was the greens of eastern oasis, further into the sands yet Aulria, a trader town frought with exotic fruits.

“Saffronia is closer. I could make it there in a fortnight. And then again, Aulria is closer to water...” Already before another moment of speech, he turned to the greens of Aulria, grinning, his thirsted mouth long since downed the last fill of water.

As he took a total of ten great strides in its direction, he did note a speck of black upon the sands. He stopped, staring-- surely a trick of the moons was casting the ill omen.

A handful tics of rotation later, however, Araxon would not be confirmed, yet reputed, as the shape grew in detail and compositon.
It was certainly another male, at this point.

“Oh no. No no no no...” He stood straight up, promptly turning the other directing, taking to his step at a tripled pace--
“To Saffronia's stony gates it is!”

The heat was never a problem for the demon, as he was able to withstand such a minor thing. It was the sand that seemed it would be the death of him. He didn't know how long he had been walking through the frustrating grains, but foolishly thought he had at least made good distance. Glyss stole a glance behind him and groaned loudly. Still looming closely in the distance was the town he just left. There it sat, taunting him about his failed efforts of getting away. "Damnit,"He cursed as his foot sunk into the sand when he tried to continue his walk. Hot sand quickly filled his boot which only soured his mood further. Still he carried on until he spotted a figure in the distance.

His purple eyes squinted a bit as he tried to get a better look and noticed that the other was ...running away? Glyss suddenly became interested in the retreating figure and began to follow. At first it was a slow walk, but it soon turned into a full sprint that only a demon would dare to do in such heat. It took him a mere thirty seconds to come close to the strange and another ten to circle in front of him.

]"Well, well. What do we have here?"[/colorHe asked while looking the other up and down. It appeared to be some lizard...thing. The demon couldn't think of the species at the present time, and figured thing would be the best way to describe the creature in front of him. "Where might you be heading?"His purple eyes gazed to the back on the other's back, and his smile twisted into something dark. The pack look like it had stuff in it, maybe even food? The apples that he had before he set out on this trip were nothing but buried cores at this time, and desperately wanted something else to fill his growling stomach.

*~*~*~
[Araxon]

It wasn't a full thirty tics later before Araxon could hear the sound of shifting sands betraying his false sense of (at least partial) security.

“s**t.” He spat trying to double his pace without tumbling again into the crystal beds, “Shiit. Shiiiit. Shiiiiiit.”
And then, the black shape was upon him, he could just about smell the air change with the other male's presence, a form eked of wooded travel and grinning fires. He secured his bag once with a murmured Lock but his voice magics never were that special. He turned his gaze to the male speaking, a demand of his origins causing him to check where his eyes were upon-- once to the bag ang then to his face. Araxon's nerves flared with the advent of burning suspicion.
Grinning now, smiling to the delight of his luck, he turned to the face the pursuing, his Naga-scaled ears folding down in irritation, his claret hood pulled closer to a blushing visage.

“Who's asking?”
He spoke terse, his cold jade eyes lowering into a glare. If the gods gave two hoots about me, they'd be sending some intervention right now...
And, of course, they wouldn't. They never did.

Araxon tightened his focus and felt his fingers stiffen in their gloved hold. Good thing two decades of his father's royal training had always paid off.

Glyss gave a soft snort at the other and straightened himself up right. "Relax. You act like someone is going to devour you."He said while running his gloved hand through his snowy white locks. Gods, it was hot out and it was starting to show. Beads of sweat collected at Glyss' brow as he stood directly into the sun without any sort of protection from the heat. "Though that might not be a bad idea,"he added to his original statement while peering down at the one before him.

More than anything, Glyss was interested in what was in that bag of his. The demon saw the way he protected it, which was a subtle hint to him that there was more than food in that satchel. 'Gotta have it, gotta have it!' A crazed mantra echoed through his mind sending his fingers into a twitching state. "You know you're going the wrong way, right? The town is that way."He informed while hitching a gloved thumb behind him. If the demon could get the other back to the town he just left, he could get his sticky fingers on that satchel. He just had to try not to mess this thing up.

Of course him being pleasant never lasted long.

"So....Mister....thing.....what in hell's name are you anyway?"Smooth. Real smooth Glyss. The Gods wouldn't blame the other for throwing sand in his face.

‘Is he trying to pick a fight?’ Zach eyes squinted, not because of the sun, but actually to express exasperation. It went unnoticed as the man - whom he had found out is named Glyss, is purposely trying to ignore him, and the other seemed to not even notice he was even there. The sun was indeed bright, and the desert heat would be dangerously hot for a person. Glyss was talking to a creature that is most likely a naga. Even though Zachary was standing behind him he can still feel that Glyss was staring at the sack the creature is carrying, and it is quite obvious what is going on his head. At first he decided not to do anything yet and see how it would turn out, but then it became quite obvious that things can only get worse.

“Most certainly he is an outsider, and won’t know any of Araneth, or the kingdom.” He stepped up, trying to defuse the situation before it will even happen. “I may be wrong, as I am not quite well versed in creatures, but you seem to be a naga. Why would a naga be here? Most certainly why in the middle of a desert?” he asked his questions, hoping to steer the conservation off from... whatever Glyss was planning. “And of course, I am Zachary, and this is Glyss Mael. We are setting off to seek the king’s kidnapped children. As he said, we would like to know your name, and the purpose of your journey, if you are comfortable with it.”

He is quite grateful, now that he thinks about it, that the others didn't come with them, as they don't like Glyss that much. If they were here they would probably seize everything in a wink of an eye.

Glyss huffed and crossed his arms as the other swooped in to save the day. He knew Zach was following him, and secretly hoped the sand would swallow him whole. "The thing is obviously going the wrong way, kid."He commented, still referring to the stranger as 'thing'. The demon wasn't entirely convenced that the stranger before him was a Naga. He seemed more human than the ones he came across.

"Are you sure he's a naga? He seems like some horrible creation gone wrong."The rudeness of Glyss never seemed to end as it came almost naturally to him. "Nice scales though. Heard that those could fetch a pretty price." The demon commented nonchalantly as he scratched under his chin and began to look around their surroundings. The wind was starting to pick up, picking up the sand as it did so. Glyss knew that a storm would be brewing soon and had no interest in being caught in it.

"Well whatever reason this thing is in the middle of the desert , he has two choices. Get caught in this sandstorm or come back with us."Still his eyes traveled to the satchel becoming happy over the idea of it being eventually his. "If the sand doesn't kill you, the freezing nights will."Glyss said in a sing song voice before walking back towards the kingdom. Though to be honest, he rather freeze out here then go back. He didn't exactly make friends when he was there.

[Araxon]

A hardened stare turned into a dead glare as the words of the white-haired creature spoke to him, and then about him.
The thing? The young prince wasn’t sure if he’d laugh or curse.
Araxon was quite sure his form was manageable, with a human body and face, his braided black hair fell into a crystalline loop at his shoulders. His brow was angled and defined, a trait of his mother’s, and below, his eyes were the same cutting eyes as his father’s-- slits for pupils, and skin, a rich russet, with the ever-so-delicate turquoise scales, so thin, they were nearly transparent. A very human jawline clenched beneath soft, flushed lips, flashing sharps, a shaved stubble of scales to flare in the heat. Two sets of curling horns escaped through his hair, and a silver collar buttoned up his neck, arriving at their depths.

A horrible creature gone wrong?

Royal tendencies screamed at him to simply conjure up a clever, cutting remark and leave the two behind, but these same royal tendencies also gave way to matters of the street.
And now, there’s two of them…. He registered the remark as he the other approached, speaking so friendly when the other had become…harsh.

Scales fetch a pretty price…Gods…

“Colluding with the royals already?” He finally balked, his tone three shades warmer than the cold remarks of his preliminary thoughts. “You can’t trust them more than you could satisfy them. Aye I heard about their kid runnin’ away. Doesn’t bother me much. As far as I’m concerned, they had it comin’.” His tone was gruff, truly a naga blend-- deep, reptilian baritone with the swing of youth at the edges of syllables. Araxon recognized speaking to Zachary, and now his voice turned to the one known as Glyss, the devilish creature.

What an a**.
“Thanks. I think I’ll take my chances.” The naga turned and continued his march away.

Even as he walked, however, he could see the wind stir on the horizon, a swirling mass in the distance pursuing the trio west, even as he observed. A storm like that would be impossible to traverse without some sort of protection…
A cocked jaw turned back, once, to his hind, at the two fellows convincing him to go BACK—but no, that wasn’t an option. Not after all he went through to get what he had now.

No…It would take more than a sandstorm to stop Araxon from deviating from Solis now. Not after discovering his father’s secret…
He knew what he needed to do.
