Part of the tribe. Mmh. Maybe he should make more of an effort. He already felt he was making an enormous effort to be frank, but it didn't appear to be enough. If he wanted to advance in the tribe he had to get himself noticed... but these were civilized times, surely he could be recognized for his talents without having to be socially adept. He probably would be recognized, eventually, but it was also true that advancement came more easily to people who knew and were liked by the people higher up. It was a bitter pill to swallow, but there it was.

"Mmh? Out of boredom," Frost echoed as he turned his attention back to the conversation. "Yes, out of boredom, but not my own. Skiron froze my tea and shook ice everywhere; he is accustomed to far more activity than he has been getting, hence my bringing him down here. I was planning to find a battle for him, either against somebody else's pokemon, or against Persephone." His two weren't exactly a good match up though; his long time companion was far more powerful than his new-found ally. "Perhaps something other than a battle," he went on after a moment, "perhaps agility training or something. Mmh. Some exercise anyway; I have been negligent over the last few days, absorbed in diagrams and calculations." What he wasn't going to admit was that, in addition to being preoccupied, he just wasn't thinking as clearly as usual. Pain made it hard to sleep properly which in turn made it hard to think, but painkillers affected his mind in less predictable ways, and as such he preferred to avoid them as much as possible. He wished Xander would just leave him alone on that score; his roommate was getting downright bossy on that score.

Amusement crept over Tambrey's features as Frost talked of the Glaceon's activities. With just flying types and now the spider, she had to admit she wasn't really used to the idea of types shedding their stuff around the place or affecting her stuff; if Lasi decided to poison her drinks, she suspected she'd prefer the ice... Luckily Lasi was not Neph... Hrm. She'd have to keep a real eye on Neph.

"That sounds adorably annoying." She replied, turning her head to watch the pokemon for a moment. "I see. Yes. Well, getting a battle in or any kind of training would be welcome. I came to try and... interact with Neph but... well, you saw what she's like right now. And the others needed to have a little fun too. Actually..." She tapped at the other ball on her belt... Pygi might benefit here too... Her thoughts were broken though as she saw Lasi fluttering straight for them. She blinked as the bat swooped around her and then fluttered toward Frost.
"Lasi what... No. Don't perch on Mister Frost please." She tried to ask the bat, but the pink pokemon looked fairly determined.
After all, he had to make friends with this neat looking man to persuade him to start with this whole battle/training thing! He wanted to play with Skiron! ... And Frost was Skiron's trainer, so clearly he needed prompting. The little pink bat decided to try and perch on Frost's shoulder to hurry him along.

There was a zubat on his shoulder. He did not find this state of affairs especially pleasing. It wasn't as unpleasant as human contact, but it still made the hair on the back of his neck prickle. "Kindly listen to your trainer," Frost said flatly, gently but firmly pushing the over-friendly creature off his shoulder. He was not a perch, nor did he think he exuded the aura of a person who wished to be snuggled up to by every passing creature. Did he have to make himself some kind of placard in order to be left alone?

"In any case," Frost turned his pale eyes back onto 'Brey, "training... Skiron has quite an advantage over all of the pokemon I have seen, but if you wish we can have a battle all the same. Alternatively we could just set them to run or fly around to burn off energy and discuss operant conditioning. I am hardly an expert in psychology, but I do understand the basic principles of behaviour management, and I can always do some research if it seems we need to know more." He could also try to find an expert on base, there had to be some, but he didn't particularly want to speak to somebody who would try to diagnose him with something. Usually he approved of labels, of putting things in categories but... But he did not wish to be informed that he was somehow mentally deficient, that he needed drugs or therapy to 'fix' him. He was good at some things and not at others, why was that so wrong? Egh. He really did despise society at times.

Lasi chirruped and attempted to grasp onto the hand that pushed him from the shoulder of the Glaceon's trainer.
"Zu! Zubat!"
The pink creature was determined to get him to play already! Never mind type disadvantage; he was -going to win-! He'd play with and beat an ice type and show off to Palu and everyone!

"Lasi. Stop that. Or you'll spend the rest of this session in the ball." Tambrey told the bat, giving him her best scary look to show she meant it.
It seemed to have the desired affect as Lasi abandoned his attempt at grasping onto Frost.
He settled onto his trainers good shoulder and stood straight. He would behave! He would behave so well it made every other example of good behaviour look like something from the naughty list!

Palu shook her head and nodded at the Zubat with a look to Skiron.
She really had to apologize for how terribly hyper her team mate could be.

Satisfied that her zubat would behave now, Tam' returned all her attention to the conversation and Frost. She nodded agreement.
"Ye-es... I, uh, seem t' have collected just flyin' and... er... or poison types... So I'm certainly at a disadvange against y'r Glaceon but still, i's not like there aren't the facilities here to heal up quick enough afterward. If you and your pokemon are up f'r it, we could do both; battle first and more training afterward?" She patted the pokeballs containing Neph and Pygi "I kind of want to try to use grumpy again... and my little bird, Palu's daughter, could use some battle experience 'gainst something she's weak 'gainst. Her mother and Lasi don' really count for that."

"Mmh," Frost brushed fastidiously at the shoulder Lasi had perched on, ignoring 'Brey until he was satisfied that he'd smoothed his clothes and removed any appreciable dirt. "Which would you like to try against Skiron first?" he asked as he turned back to the dark-haired young woman. "I have no particular preference... Oh, and of course I can offer Persephone too for a more even match up against any of them."

He did need to get the forbidden pokemon into battle more; while he was in control of her most of the time she still had her rebellious moments. He needed to get rid of those as soon as possible, because Murphy's Law dictated that if she was going to disobey him, it would be at a critical moment... Of course Murphy's Law was just an illusion of perception really; when everything went wrong at once, or something went wrong at a truly vital moment one noticed far more than when something went awry in less important circumstances. Nevertheless, the fact of the matter was that he needed to get the ghost type as obedient as possible as soon as possible.

"Hm."
Tambrey looked toward the Zubat who had puffed himself up straight and trying to look tall. He really wanted to play with the Glaceon and he was making it known.
"Hrm. Lasi, would ya mind training after the battle? I need to try and get Pygi and Neph a little more combat training, hm? Y' can help cheer them on and then play after the battle, hm?"
The little bat looked momentarily disappointed, but then realised he was being given an important job! And he'd still get to play! After all, moral and motivation was a key detail in winning something, he was sure!
"Zubat!" He confirmed, with no salute, though he certainly gave the impression of one.

"How about I try Neph against your Skiron? It seems like he's y'r closest partner and I think we'd want reliable against Grumpybug." Plus, if her bug insisted on being terrible, at least with a type advantage she should be easier to stop quickly.
"In fact... How about standard sort of battle, just with two pokemon each? I'll use Neph and Pygi for battling 'gainst your Skiron and Miss Ghosty?"

"You would be correct in that guess," Frost nodded, "we have been companions for fifteen years now. Mmh. In any case, that sounds like a fair place to begin. Perhaps a sound thrashing will teach your 'Grumpybug' a lesson in manners for one thing. Skiron, and you ready?"

"Glace glae!" The ice type chirped an affirmative and trotted into place in the arena; at last! He'd been beginning to wonder if he had to freeze something else in order to get Frost's attention.

With his more reliable pokemon in place, Frost released Persephone from her dusk ball. "A friendly battle, Persephone," he instructed the sprits as the manifested with an otherworldly shriek, "no maiming, understood?"

"Skreeeeeeeeeeeeee!" the spirits howled frustration at having to hold back, but a fight they could not kill in was better than no fight. Kill anyway! Ignore the human! a single voice hissed, silencing the rest in a moment. With that the forbidden pokemon fell silent and drifted over to rest beside Skiron wearing a very nasty grin indeed.

Tambrey made a quick use of the facilities, bringing her spider back to battling condition in a short amount of time, while Pygi was released from her ball in a burst of red light.

"Hopefully so! She'll be ready in a moment!" Tam' called and then smiled to the Pidgey as she appeared. "There's goin' t' be a battle, Pygi; not against any of our team, but 'gainst someone new, 'kay? Don't worry 'bout winning or not, jus' do y' best; this is so you know about other trainers and their pokemon."

The little bird tilted her head, regarded the ice and, ooh, one of those nice ghosts! This might be fun and maybe she'd make another friend!
"Piii!" She confirmed that she was ready.

Tambrey then released Neph from her ball.
"Another battle, Neph. We're doin' these until y' behave and get used t' orders, right. Y're alongside Pygi. Do -not- be awkward!" /Please/, she added in her head.

The yellow spider chittered and huffed unhappily before regarding the 'opponents' across the arena. How dare this /Rocket/ tell her to behave and try to be her trainer. This would not do at all. The anger was building up once more, and Neph seemed ready to attack everything as she glared at whoever caught her eye; opponent and ally alike.

"Are you ready then?" Frost asked as 'Brey's pokemon moved into place. "I know that in our line of work starting a battle in a civilized fashion is rare but... I feel that it is nice to do sometimes all the same.” Perhaps that was foolish, perhaps a lot of his attitude was but he had no intention of changing.

I am what I am, and what I am needs no excuses.

The memory of Dith singing that, his Russian accent thicker than usual thanks to several glasses of wine, was vivid and seemed to come from nowhere. He recalled that it had been his twenty fifth birthday, and that it had been a better than average birthday; he had managed to persuade his friend that he really didn’t want to do anything other than hang around at home with him. Hum, anyway, as fond a memory as it was, it was hardly relevant to what he was doing at the moment.

“Whenever you are ready, Brey, we can begin.”

"Eh... It's not like we really get a chance t' be civilised... Hesitation gets y'... arrested or, uh.. worse." There was a slight frown there which Tambrey directed to her arm... Hrm. It really was troubling. And something about it had bothered her since her short flight had happened.
"Um. Ah, sorry." She realised she'd been distracted for a few seconds and shook her head to clear it before smiling.

"Right. Civilised is good once in a while; especially with what we do, I'd think. Er... Anyway... Yes. Yes I am ready and, er..." She looked from Pygi to Neph; one bird ready and standing proud and one bug currently chittering and glaring at the Glaceon. "I... uh, think they're pretty ready."

"Zuuu bat!" Lasi proclaimed; he was ready! Ready to, uh, cheer! And encourage! And afterward train!

"Good," Frost nodded slightly, then let us begin. "Skiron, Ice Beam the Pidgeotto, and Persephone give it a Faint Attack." That one would probably be the more powerful of her two as she'd only just acquired Neph, and in any case if the point of the battle - part of the point - was to get the Spinarak some experience, and to give 'Brey experience of handling it, it would do no good for the bug type to be knocked out too quickly.

"Pygi! Dodge the ice beam! And try to use Fly on that Glaceon!" Tambrey called, though she realised there wasn't a lot she could do about the faint attack.

{OOC: Going to roll for damage: 1-5 and Pygi dodges the Ice Beam, recieves normal damage from Faint Attack, 6-10 and both hit but Pygi doesn't quite faint, 11-15 and Pygi is taken down by the attacks and... 16-20, somehow she dodges both.}

"And Neph! Go for that ghost! Leech life!"

Unfortunately this was where the angry bug stopped listening already... and decided to attempt to String Shot the ghost type, chittering a tiny, enraged war cry and she scuttled toward Persephone, unleashing the silk attack.

[ 1-5 Dodge. 6-8 glancing blow. 9-18 normal damage. 19-20 critical hit. String shot assumed to hit.]

"Skiron, wait for the swoop and then give another Ice Beam! Persephone, another Faint Attack!" As he spoke, the pidgeotto reached maximum height Frost narrowed his eyes; the order to try to evade went within saying...

Much as Skiron tried, however, the swift bird's talons raked along his back. Yowling in pain at the bleeding cuts, the Glaceon sprang away from his opponent and let loose another Ice Beam.

Persephone meanwhile found her keystone entangled in stick webbing. Some of it oozed its way into the fissure from which the mass of swirling spirits erupted, slowing their movements. After a few moments, however, they gathered their strength and launched another infallibly accurate Faint Attack at the Pidgeotto. They would much prefer to be attacking the Spinarak... Well, although they couldn't yet, they could express the desire;

{Same scale again, though I'll edit and add a bit if she's hit and survived to consider that moot- I really don't think she'd endure two ice beams.}

"Hang in there, Pygi! Good job! Try and repeat that!" Tambrey found herself leaning forward, pleased with the little bird.

Lasi found himself mimicking her... and falling forward on his face.
"Zuu..." He muttered, indignantly as he picked himself back up, hoping nobody saw that.

Tambrey then turned her attention on her Spinarak once more... and was vaguely surprised with how well that seemed to have gone, though it wasn't what she'd asked.

"Wrong attack!" She called, trying her best not to sound impressed. "Try again, only this time, Leech Life!"

The little bug chittered, smug /and/ angry at the ghost, once again ignoring Tambrey. She wriggled and shot out a poison sting toward the ghost-type.

Frost gave a nod of satisfaction as the pidgey went down and turned his sharp gaze onto the Spinarak as it attacked Persephone. Judging by the shiver of disgust the cloud of spirits gave, she had been poisoned. "Use Confuse Ray, Persephone," the pale-skinned man called clearly, "and Skiron, slow it down with Icy Wind." He could have gone for Ice Beam again, but it would do Skiron to practice all of his moves, not just the more powerful ones.

Hissing in disgust at the toxins that sapped their strength, the forbidden pokemon focused on the Spinarak and let out a beam of twisting weird energy as instructed. It was funny to see enemies hurt themselves.

Glad that he wasn't being rakced by sharp claws anymore, Skiron acknowledged his trainer with a cry and breasted a blast of frigid wind and the bug type.
