With a nod, Blade started on towards the town to lead the girls to the restaurant. Every now and then he glanced back to check up on Kohaku. She seemed like a really fragile and sickly girl so he wanted to make sure he wasn't going too fast or anything like that for her.
"Man, I gotta say... nice to finally have the winter weather go away," he said for some idle chatter, not that he really expected the small girl to be all too talkative.

"I'm gonna miss the snow." Riyo said honestly. "But I do like spring. Not too hot, not too cold."
Kohaku honestly loved all the seasons. All of them were so unique, and a relief when the next in the cycle came along. But instead of stating so, She remained quiet, satisfied enough by listening to them talk.
"Hey Kohaku." Riyo started, looking at the girl curiously. "Why are you mute?"
It seemed like an insensitive question, but the girl didn't seem to mind. Thinking about the question, she shrugged slightly. Honestly she... Didn't remember. All she could recall was being able to speak one day as a child and not the next. A hard adjustment... But she didn't mind that much anymore.
"Ah. Wasn't sure if there was a story behind that or not." Riyo replied simply, looking forward. She couldn't really imagine being mute herself... But she really liked talking when she got into one of her moods.

The snow was nice... at times, but it was still too cold for his liking. When the question of how she became mute came up, he glanced towards the girl, but it seemed like she didn't know. It was a curious thought, and Blade had to wonder if it had to do with her sicknesses at all. In any case, he had to imagine it was hard. While he was pretty reserved, not being able to speak was hard to imagine.
Once arriving at the restaurant, the three were seated fairly quickly. The restaurant wasn't anything particularly fancy but it was still pretty nice. The scent of pasta filled the air and the place had a good number of customers within it.
"Go ahead and order what you want Kohaku," he offered her as he opened the menu to see what he wanted himself.

Sitting down at the booth with a sigh, Riyo nodded when Blade mentioned ordering whatever. "Yeah, me and Blade got you covered." Though, she'd be more than happy to pay for it all. Money didn't matter too much anymore... Now that she was a rich kid. As much as she hated to think of it like that...
As Kohaku sat down beside Riyo, she seemed overwhelmed at the fact that they'd even offered to cover her. She had just planned on eating the bread sticks, since she didn't really have money of her own. The money her parents had left her paid just tuition for now, so she rarely got to eat somewhere nice.
"What, were you just gonna sit here and watch us eat?" Riyo asked as if reading the girl's mind. Immediately the mute's cheeks lit up, glancing away as if saying '... Yes.'
God, she was too cute. Riyo had to fight the urge to say anything about it.
As Kohaku browsed the menu, she appeared in awe of all the things she could possibly get. Usually she had to settle for whatever the school offered, so this... This was great.

Glancing over the menu at Kohaku, Blade raised an eyebrow at the girl.
"If you don't pick something, we'll grab something for you," he added, though his tone was soft, "This is for you anyway."
Smiling a bit with that, he glanced up as the waitress came on by.
"Hey guys. I'm Rebecca and I'll be your server for the evening. Could I get you started with anything to drink or any appetizers?" she asked.
"Uh... I'll have a mountain dew?" Blade requested before glancing back to the menu for for the moment.

Reluctantly, Kohaku nodded at Blade's comment. Kinda weird to be forced to order something... But comforting at the same time.
As the waitress came by, Riyo nodded to her. "Coke." she said simply, looking at Kohaku who was still busily looking over the menu.
"Whaddya want to drink?" Riyo asked.
Looking up from a daze, Kohaku blinked when she realized their waitress was already there, flipping out her notepad, she scribbled 'water' in a hurry.
"And this one will have a water." Riyo added and looked up to the waitress. "Lets get some bread sticks out here too, please."
When that was taken care of, Riyo looked back to their guest. "Water? You could've gotten a soda, you know..."
Once again, pen met paper and Kohaku wrote an explanation of her choice. It read 'I get sick easily, so I try to avoid anything considered unhealthy.' Well, anything her doctor labeled as unhealthy, at least.

Jotting down the order, Rebecca smiled, "Alright I'll be right out with your drinks and the bread."
Once she was gone, Blade looked towards Kohaku sympathetically. It seemed she had a pretty rough life to deal with. His own wasn't all that easy, but hers was on a different level.
"I gotta say.. you're a pretty strong girl to have to deal with all this..." he uttered quietly with furrowed brows.
At that point, the waitress returned and set down their drinks. With a smile, she got her notepad ready in case they were ready to order.
"Do you guys need a few more minutes or are you ready to order?"

Strong? No... Kohaku didn't think she was strong.
Flipping over to another page, she jotted down a short message that gave her thoughts on the subject. 'It's not strength when it's all you've known.'
She couldn't remember a time not being sick, and she barely remembered when she had a voice. She was used to it. And that made all the difference in getting by. She didn't have the memories to long for better days or any of that to hinder her.
Riyo had been watching the girl for a short time, contemplating how she'd feel in her situation. To them, it would probably be a rough life... But to her, it was just another day. Just like it was another day in her life, or another day in the life to Blade.
"It all boils down to what we choose to accept, I suppose." Riyo mumbled.
Nodding to the follow-up statement from the girl next to her, Kohaku added 'Real strength is being able to go against the grain. I've never tried because I don't want to lose what I already have.' Which... Wasn't much honestly. But familiarity was a very important thing when it's about all you have.
"Oh, uh." Right.. They had to order something. Now what had Riyo been looking at? "I'll take a slice of lasagna." Since it was one of the few things that had beef in it.
Lifting up her menu, Kohaku opened and pointed to something. Riyo looked it over, then turned back to the waitress. "She wants spaghetti."

Looking at the message written, Blade took some time to take that in. He supposed she had a point there. He supposed people would find the way he kept himself afloat financially rough, but it was something he was used to. In his case though, he didn't really want to change that either.
Nodding slowly at what both had to say on that, he then turned his attention to the waitress.
"Uh... I'll have some meat ravioli," he said before handing over the menu. The waitress collected them and smiled before heading off to fetch the breadsticks for the group.
"So then you've been like this for a long time then I take it?" he asked with a frown once Rebecca had gone off.

Kohaku nodded briefly before writing down 'almost as long as I can remember.' Though, she didn't mention the fact that she also lacked parents. There was no need to make these people want to pity her. She didn't want that.
"How many instruments can you play?" Riyo asked abruptly, not wanting to dwell on the shortcomings rather than her achievements.
'It would be easier to list what I can't play', was her answer, and she couldn't help but smile as she wrote it.
'But I can't play anything as well as the piano.'

Looking fairly impressed, Blade wasn't really aware of her musical talents since he wasn't in the music class. It was nice to hear that she had something going for her in the very least. He had heard music made for a pretty good outlet for some people.
"Wow, that sounds pretty nice. Would that be your favorite instrument to play then?" he asked before looking as the breadsticks were placed down for them. Taking one of them, he started to idly eat away at it.

Looking up at Blade, Kohaku seemed slightly surprised he was so impressed.
'Yes, but I like the flute too. The piano can be very sad sometimes... It's a lot harder to make the flute sad.' is what she wrote before also taking one of the breadsticks, though she only nibbled on it.
"Yeah. It can be." Riyo agreed, temporarily forgetting about the breadsticks. Sadness, huh? Kohaku didn't look like a sad person... But perhaps she was just good at hiding it. She did say she'd had no friends... What else could she be hiding?

She did have a point there. The higher pitch of the flute did make it a little harder, though it wasn't completely impossible. Nodding at that, he took another bite of his breadstick while thinking on how she might handle herself.
"So uh... Mr. Ferre hasn't really been bothering you too much has he?" he asked with some sense of hesitance. It was kinda creepy to him how the elder vampire had seemingly taken an interest in her. But maybe it wasn't all that bad.

At that question, Kohaku hesitated. Her eyes skimmed the page and her pen tapped the paper, trying to find the right words to say. She wasn't creeped out or afraid of the obviously elder vampire... She just...
'No. If anything, I suppose I pity him. He's like a child stuck in a man's body, so sure of himself and his judgment on people that he refuses to take a second look at an obviously misconstrued situation. '
That one had taken her much longer to write. No. It's obvious this was not a naive girl. Staring at the paper for a few short moments, Riyo seemed to ponder exactly what she meant by all that. It was hard to say, since the feline hadn't even touched the surface of the school's secrets. She'd always assumed that teachers had his invisible boundary that kept them from overstepping an obviously sacred line. Maybe Riyo was the naive one here. "You're a very interesting person, Kohaku." She finally said, looking the now blushing girl straight in the eyes.

Blade tilted his head as he read Kohaku's answer. It was an interesting look on things for certain and he saw then that she wasn't as naive as she seemed. Now, he didn't know as much of what was going on with Suto and Lou... aside from the fact that they were up to something that wasn't likely any good.
"You definitely are," he agreed with Riyo before looking up as their food had arrived.
"You also have an interesting outlook on things," he added while grabbing his fork.
