Vironica watched him with a surprised, then a slightly amused expression before nodded. "You're correct... I do need work on coming closer to a promotion. Although, I don't think I'll throw myself into deep water without learning to swim first; that being said, I had better look into finding a partner and going on small scale missions first.
Taking her seat across the table from Frost, she took a sip of water, then calmly began to eat; surprise surprise, at least the food tasted good.

Frost finished a small mouthful of rice and sipped at his drink, pondering Vironica's words carefully. "I suppose it makes sense to seek out small scale missions first," he agreed with a nod, "but I'm not certain about a partner. In general, on the missions I have been on, you are told where you are going and who you are going with. Generally it is a group of five to ten grunts commanded by a pair of agents or an elite or similar, depending on the operation... Nevertheless, it is probably worthwhile looking out for a potential partner so that when you are promoted you will have on in short order."
He didn't believe it was ever necessary to have a partner, but there were plenty of advantages to teaming up. How he would go about finding one, however, he had no idea at all.

"Well, I certainly wouldn't be going out on a mission alone. I'd rather have someone to share the blame with when things to terribly wrong." With a small shrug, Vironica took a few more mouthfuls of food, washing it down with water.
"Besides, I don't see the point in sticking with a single person as a 'partner'. As far as I'm concerned, when you work at a place that calls itself a 'team' you should be able to work as seamlessly as possible with whomever you're assigned to."

Had that been a personal dig? Never do things alone. Should be able to get on with everybody... No. She didn't know him well enough for it to have been intentional; such paranoia was illogical, and unbecoming of an intelligent man. "I believe that it is important to be able to work with anyone," Frost agreed (believing that it was important didn't mean that he could do it), "but I also believe that there is a lot to be said for forming a close bond with one particular person for the purpose of missions. A person who compliments your strengths, covers your weaknesses; somebody you know so well that you work in harmony that you cannot hope to achieve with those you only work with on occasion. Mmh. This is of course 'in a perfect world'; I cannot imagine that such perfect parings actually come about all that often."
Certainly not for people like him, and yet for people like him who were severely lacking in some areas it was more important than ever. Somebody who could interpret people things for a start... Well he supposed there was Xander, but he had no idea how long relations would continue to be cordial between himself and his new roommate. Even if they did manage to stay on good terms, he had no doubt the young man would prefer somebody else as an eventual long term partner. He didn't even have the start of any other leads though; perhaps he should consider discussing the matter.

"Personally, considering that humans have so many flaws by nature, having a single close-bonded partner seems foolish to me." Vironica rolled her shoulders into a shrug, leaving the matter at that. Each to their own opinion and all, she wouldn't be swayed to change her mind by Frost's words and she was sure he wouldn't change his opinion because of her. To press the matter simply seemed pointless and a waste of time.
"You spoke earlier that you had some tea put away in the fridge? Pray tell what type it was." No, she hadn't taken it, but it made for a good topic change.

"I never said I thought it would be easy," Frost replied with a shrug of his own. "Like a perpetual motion machine a perfect partnership would be fantastic, but it isn't something that seems possible to create in our world. Friction, that's the trouble." Actual friction in the case of the former (among other factors), and metaphorical in the case of the latter. He still believed that it would be beneficial to form such a long term partnership and aspire to be the perpetual motion machine, but he did understand Vironica's scepticism too.
"Oh, mmh, tea," Frost frowned very slightly and shook his head. "It was not in the fridge, it was in a cupboard in one of the the recreation rooms. I clearly labelled it but... Mmh, in any case, to answer your question it was nothing desperately special; just some Earl Grey." While it might not have been special or expensive, it had been his, and despite the fact that this had been made perfectly clear, people had taken it. "It had happened twice now," he went on, "the second time I labelled the inside of the box as well as the outside, and the bottom too. I know that we are a criminal organization, but stealing from your fellows? I simply cannot understand such behaviour."

"I find that, unless it's under lock and key, anything is fair game here unfortunately. I learned that the hard way when I had left a few pots and some bags of soil in the garage while I went to bring the rest of my shopping supplies back to my room. I returned and someone had already taken them... though I still can't imagine what someone could have wanted with just plain potting soil; it's not like it was anything fancy or some fertilizer." Vironica paused at that point, her mind wandering back, still finding the incident peculiar. "I mean, I could understand if it was a flat of spouts or some plants."

"Probably some childish prank or other," Frost guessed, raising his eyebrows slightly. "I have to say that the average mental age around here seems to be somewhere in mid teens, and the average actual age not so very much higher. Mmh. I suppose life expectancy within an organization like this is not too amazing, and that hot-headed youths are more likely to sign up. That explains the phenomenon, but doesn't make it any less annoying."
There were some younger folk who were alright of course (Xander made it to the top of his immediate mental list for some reason), but it would still be nice to know some more people over the age of thirty... Over the mental age of thirty more to the point. Actual physical age would be good too, but mental age was the priority; he was certain that there were a few people his age kicking around the base who had never grown out of being an adolescent lout.

"I agree... though the labs seem to have a much more serious air to them. Probably because it's a working environment that requires more attention than typical... and the fact that at times there are unstable elements." It was nice, the labs; she certainly liked that she worked well with her colleges.
"It's a shame that there aren't older members though. I feel like I'm older than I really am here. Although, considering that few people join in their late twenties and that those who do make it into their thirties tend to be higher in rank...." She let her thought trail off.

"Indeed," Frost quirked an eyebrow slightly, "I'm sure the Executive lounge is absolutely full of cultured, mature folk. I doubt I will be seeing the inside of that any time soon, however; climbing that high through the ranks is... Not easy. Mmh. For now I would settle for reaching Agent. You get your own room, and bathroom."
He was less stressed about the private room part now that he had a civilized roommmate (although it would still be nice to have privacy when he wanted it), but the notion of his own bathroom was glorious. Grunt shared bathing and toilet facilities made him want to gag, although at least they were a little better than what he'd had to deal with as a Trainee; back then he'd often felt dirtier leaving than he had coming in. Why was it that so many men struggled with the idea of keeping things clean? It wasn't exactly rocket science... Oh, ha, Rocket science; he might have to try to make a joke with that one at some point.
