As the male slunk off, Tortie moved forward a short distance. She didn't want to break cover and spoil the ambush, so she did keep back a fair way. Though she hadn't hunted in a group before she had seen other kinds of pokemon hunting, and presumed that her companion would chase the prey in her general direction, whereupon she would pounce. She could almost taste the flesh already.
"Nice," Aulus nodded acknowledgement, "I've heard lots of people talking about the new pokemon that Executive brought over. Zorua's the one that can turn itself into other things, right? I can't say I've ever had much to do with Sharpedo, or water types in general really; if you're not too busy sometime I'd be interested in finding out more." Possibly through a battle. Tortie would suffer from not having any moves that could strongly affect it, but even if he was sure to lose seeing one in action during a friendly battle would be useful and interesting too. "I don't have any others myself, no," Aulus went on after a moment, "I'm hoping to get hold of more before too long, but not being allowed far off base puts a bit of a crimp in catching new team members. Still, maybe once I'm a grunt I can use my days off - such as they will be - to go searching for pokemon to capture. Or steal, of course." How often had he looked at another trainer's pokemon and wanted it for himself? Now he would be actively encouraged to steal like that, although presumably he would be expected to give some of what he took to other Rockets, or to the labs... Yea, he'd try giving them straight to other Rockets. The less he had to do with what they did down in the labs the better.

It was slow, careful work while Absol made his way around, not taking any chances to make any mistakes. If he's even seen by one, then he blows the whole element of surprise. Hunkered low to the ground, he streaked forward, noiselessly with surprising ease, slowly working his way closer, and closer. Finally, he stopped, eyes locked on the prey they had chosen. for a short moment, everything hung in silence.
All it took was a simple growl to start up a panic within the Numel, they scattered every which way, but Absol predicted the movements of the Numel they had chosen. appearing in front of it and slashing out with his claw, he sent the fire type in the other direction, unknowingly fleeing right into where another Abosl waited.
She grinned slightly when he spoke about the other two dark types on her team. "yes, I think its called Illusion, she can give the appearance of pretty much anything... she's rather proud of that fact." she added with a slight sigh, The dark fox had a tendency of turning into Faleen most. "I wouldn't mind showing you Sharpedo, but he doesn't like it when i send him out where there is no water. he tends to start chomping everything in sight out of frustration... I'm working on that."
"Most Rockets starting out only have one Pokemon, once you become grunt its easier to focus on Pokemon training, I have no doubt you'll have a bigger team soon enough. Team Rocket doesn't have a problem with running low on pokemon. What kind are you interested in?"

Wait. Wait. Wait... Now! As the Numel drew close to her Tortie sprung forward, closed her jaws about its throat in a vicious Bite, and raked at its right shoulder and foreleg with her claws. She could taste blood in her mouth already and it was good.
"Hu, useful," Aulus nodded, "if you can train her to do that on cue there's loads of possibilities. Oh, and don't worry about the Sharpedo, no call to piss it off; you can show me down in the pool sometimes... If you want, of course." It was hard to remember to be deferential to pretty much everybody he met but it had to be done; he knew some people could get really pissy if you neglected to acknowledge their superior rank.
"I don't really have a type I focus on," Aulus went on after a moment with a slight shake of his head, "I like all kinds, all pokemon really... I suppose some of my favourite kinds though are fire types and dark types. Rapidash, Absol, Charizard... Uh... Houndoom I like, and I like the look of... Liepard is it? The slinky cat-thing that the evolves from the little cat that Executive brought over along with your Zorua. I've got other favourites too, but it's usually dark and fire types that spring to mind first; a lot of them have a certain..." the scarred man gestured vaguely before concluding; "A certain something."

The Numel wasn't expecting a second Absol, and because of her colors, she didn't stand out from the sand. Despite its struggles, the moment she had her jaws wrapped around his neck, it was over.
Absol wasn't far behind it, stopping just in front of them, but not interfering, allowing her to handle the right of the kill, His features shifted just slightly, hinting at a pleased look, before his attention was drawn away. Head turning he looked over to the gathering of Numel in the distance, frowning softly at their obnoxiously loud cries as they huddled together. <....Hm.>
Her gathered and controlled features allowed a soft smile at the mention of houndoom, but it faded after a new seconds. "That sounds like a strong team if you are able to build it. I hear a lot of people find good use in fire types..." She didn't seem to, having one fire type that she quite despised.
"Do you have any skills outside of pokemon?" she asked politely.

Once the Numel stopped twitching Tortie raised her head to follow the other Absol's gaze, licking blood from around her mouth as she did so. she smirked, Or, come to that, to charge them. If the whole herd of them decided to attack she and her companion would have to beat a very hasty retreat. With this in mind, the patched dark-type sank her teeth into the dead Numel and tore off a chunk of flesh; you never knew when one beast brighter than the others might suggest driving the predators away.
"Mmh, well, 'if' if operative," Aulus frowned slightly, "I suppose to start with I'll just have to take what I can get and be grateful for it." Within reason, of course. While he happened to like even the most sickeningly adorable pokemon, he didn't want to be seen training a Jigglypuff or something. People would laugh at him. "I do have other skills though, luckily," he went on, his scowl giving way to a grin, "I'm pretty sure that's why Claire recruited me actually; I'm a third dan in karate, which I suppose some people might consider moderately useful in an organization like this." Especially useful given the fact that, so far as he could gather, nobody below elite level was allowed to use any kind of firearm. If guns were out for most people, actual skill in combat became a real asset; while he couldn't beat up a tough pokemon, if his pokemon could occupy it for a while he could pummel the trainer to a pulp and take its pokeball.

Absol remained where he was, the frown still on his face. He heard her speak but he didn't reply at first, eyes scanning over the ground of Numel, before they started to move elsewhere, around the desert. <... Something isn't right...> Quickly they flicked around, before settling on the ground by his feet. Here his eyes widened, a steady trembling vibrating the ground below, as the huddling and cowering Numel cried even louder. Absol suddenly barked at the female, before he leaped from the ground, strong legs pushing him high into the air just as there was an explosion of sand from below his feet.
Sand was thrown every which way, violently parting as the massive form of lightly colored Hippowdon suddenly burst from the sand to engage the Absol hunters, bellowing in rage.
"A martial artist, well that certainly seems like a useful skill indeed. Pardon my lack of knowledge on the subject, but would you mind explaining what a third dan is?" A lot of them knew the basics of self defense, Faleen herself knew it anyway. but actual combat was much more tricky... as she learned the hard way when she tried to steal pokemon from a human who was quite tough.

As the male began to speak, Tortie's hackles rose. Perhaps it was instinct, or perhaps it was his tension transmitting to her. Whatever the chase, the effect was to make her spring out of the way less than a heartbeat after the other Absol. As she landed the patched dark type spun around to face the new foe with a snarl; it was huge! Could they take it between them? Ha! Of course they could; they were the hunter and it the prey, no matter how large. If the Numel interfered they might be in trouble, but this thing alone they would take down.
Tortie snarled, What would her trainer be suggesting she do right now? Start of a battle. Swords Dance. Baring her fangs at the massive lumber brute, Tortie focused on increasing her attack power. Tonight was turning out even more interesting than she had expected.
"Hu? Oh sure," Aulus shrugged slighty; for some reason he always expected people to know what he was talking about, which was pretty dumb when you thought about it. "First you go through all the coloured belts," he began, "usually starting at white and going through deeper colours until you get to black, though different arts and even clubs will use different specifics. Anyway, dans come after the black belt... I guess if your black belt is your BSc, dans are like master's degrees through P.H.Ds and whatever else as you get more of them. Having third dan means I'm capable of teaching. The highest dan level is ten, but you can't get past five just on skill, you have to have demonstrated leadership ability, teaching experience, and service to the style. I think there's... six, maybe seven living tenth dans in karate? Not many certainly; you have to have done something pretty damn big to get that far, and there's probably not more than twenty or so ninth dans."
He'd probably told her more than she actually wanted to know there, but when he was actually interested in something he did have a tendency to go on. Well, whatever, she could think he was a dork if she wanted, he didn't much care.

Absol was hanging in the air when the massive form of the ground pokemon come up from the sand, and started chomping and stomping anything in sight, The female was able to get herself out of the way thankfully, and powered up her abilities with a sword dance, Absol, as he started to descend again, readied a Night Slash.
Coming down, his horn emanated a darkness that was slicked into the back of the Hippowdon. The large creature gave a bellow of pain when the attack struck him, bucking his head back to try and hit the Absol, but he had leaped off, landing easily in the sand next to the female, his dark eyes locked onto the Hoppowdon.
The ground pokemon glowered at them, though his eye caught the body of the numel that they had hunted. His eyes filled with sadness for a moment, before turning back to the Absols in rage.
"I see, I learn something new than" Tilting her head a little, This of coarse meant that he was quite the accomplished Martial artist. "With skills like that you can bring to Team Rocket, you'll be promoted in no time. It always helps to give an edge, and Team Rocket needs everything we can get right now..."

She'd never tasted Hippowdon before. Now seemed like a good time to sample. Snarling viciously Tortie launched herself at the great brute and latched on with a savage Bite attack. Humm, kind of like Numel but quite a lot stronger. She liked it.
"Ha, I hope so," Aulus scowled darkly, "I've had it with my roommates, my dorm room, and bloody well mopping. Oh and scrubbing. And cleaning toilets. I guess you went through the same crap when you joined up, hu?"

The Hippowdon was strong, this wasn't at all surprising. but the Absol he was fighting were trained by human, to hone their already monstrous attack powers. When he was bitten, a pained bellow roared through the desert as he bucked and threw himself around to get the darkly colored Absol off of him.
With his attestation drawn, Absol powered up his own attack, his mouth opening wide as a white ball formed in his gaping mouth, swirly faster and faster as it grew, before it pulsed and formed a beam of ice that shot out toward the Ground pokemon.
Another bellow of pain, the ground type half encased in ice on the side the Tortie was not on, bleeding from the bite wound. The attacks hurt it, but he broke out of the ice a few seconds later, and burrowed under the sad, suddenly vanishing out of sight. ... Absol stood, glaring at the ground, this wasn't over....
Faleen nodded in confirmation to his assumption, he was in deed correct. "I wasn't used to it either, nor did I particularly find it engaging, going from building amazing tings in a lab, to scrubbing floors... its quite humbling."
Umbreon ears pricked when there was a sudden carrying cry from the distance, a deep bellow, no doubted from the deserts distance. This drew Faleen's attestation as well, narrowing her eyes softly at the faint cry.

Tortie chuckled with a savage grin as the beast vanished from view. she went on in more serious tones, inspecting the sand beneath her paws for the slightest sign of movement, Reinforcements would be bad; she might have to run away and she really hated running away. She especially didn't want to have to run away with this rather fine male around; a lady had an image to maintain after all.
As Faleen turned to peer into the distance, so too did Aulus. "What the?... Is there a battle going on over there?" That was more or less the direction Tortie's pawprints ran in... Muttering a curse under his breath, the scarred man set off towards that distant cry; she'd better not have got herself into trouble.

He replied rather simply, in agreement with her suspicions. frowning as his dark eyes cast quickly around the sands. he growled, looking up at the female and trotting over to stand by her, his lips curling away from his teeth slightly as he continued to search the sand.
For a time there was silence, Absol staying by the other of his kind, claws spread wide as they waited for an inevitable attack. The beast seem to be taking its time though... perhaps it was gone...
Faleen opened her mouth to reply, but when the man she was talking to swore under his breath and started in that direction, she blinked, glancing down at Umbreon before she to followed after. "Absol likes to hunt, its probably something to do with him." She offered as an explanation, but didn't try to stop Aulus.

Baring her own fangs Tortie hunkered down to listen for any small sounds that might announce the return of their foe. she growled softly,
"We'll see," Aulus replied, a scowl darkening his features. "If that patchy-coated beast has got herself into trouble," he muttered, "I am going to give her the bollocking of a lifetime. First time I let her out by herself since we came here and she's charged off to do Arceus knows what." Stupid Tortie. It could be Faleen's Absol, but he'd be willing to place a substantial bet it was Tortie or maybe both of them... He hoped she was alright.

Absol having turned her to pay closer attention to the ground payed off, when the rumbles grew stronger, and it all but pinpointed the aria the larger ground type was going to be coming up from. Giving both the Absol ample time to evade. Erupting from the ground with more force than he had before, throwing sand, rock and blood from previous wounds the Absol duo had inflicted. Jaws open ride as he bellowed in furry, snorting heavily as more sand sprayed at the two Absol at high steeps.
Absol felt the sting of the sand on his body, but he was lucky thats all he felt with the force that Hippowdon came up from the ground. He didn't wait to give it anymore opportunity, head tilted back, he readied another Night Slash attack.
Faleen blinked over at the man during his little ramble, and couldn't help a slight smile, the corners of her mouth lightly feathering, It certainly sounded like a dark type.

As the beast erupted from the ground once more Tortie snarled and used a Faint Attack, vanishing before the wave of sand could hit her and reappearing on the ground type's back and slamming it with dark energy.
That was definitely the sound of battle, and as he squinted through the darkness Aulus thought that he could make out a large shape moving around. "Bet you anything Tortie's at the middle of that," he growled, "if she's bitten off more than she can chew and is choking on it..." She was his only pokemon; there wasn't a lot he could do to help if she couldn't handle the situation. The more senior rocket beside him however probably could. Aulus shot her a glance. "Coming with me to find out?" he asked as he set off once more, hoping very much that the answer would be 'yes'.
