Chiyuri Kitashirakawa Shingami Hiroshi potential nuclear meltdown Expanding on this: Fukushima's reactors 1 and 3 suffered EXTERNAL Damage. There was also the issue of losing all power sources to cool off the reactors, but they were treated with emergency by flooding them with Sea water. This is also the same case with reactor 2, but in this case the explosion DAMAGED THE CASING. This will release small amounts of radiation, but they will mean no harm since it's too small AND the zone has been evac'd. The 4th reactor has been affected as well, due to a fire. This is the only plant that can't be treated with Sea water due to having been in manteinance during the earthquake. I repeat, there's NO DANGER as the amount of radiation is too small and decays too quickly to cause any damage to people. The only problem is that all four reactors are pretty much down for the count, as TEPCO has declared these reactors to be unusable. This will mean MASSIVE loss of money for them and 15% of the total electricity of Japan being out of commission. so they're just overreacting to cause widespread panic, is what you're saying?

Insert cosplay here Tenshi removed all the keystones, which made Suwako get mad, and now Okuu is on a sugar high. And let's hope that Mima doesn't get any ideas...or Yukari. I think Yukari's too busy with Reimu to cause ze earthquake. I blame the Unnamed Giant Catfish. I would be happy if Okuu's taking over the real world <3 JAPAN MUSN'T DIE! Dx

So, it appears that radiation levels around the plant have fallen, all reactors except for 2 are stable, and reactor 2 is being cooled. However, the fall in radiation levels was because the casing cracked and is currently releasing radioactive steam.
The whole world is focused solely on Japan being able to put Okuu under control... gonk

Arch-Angel Stocking so they're just overreacting to cause widespread panic, is what you're saying? Exactly. With the extreme care the japanese have put on their security, no reactor will cause deaths. You could say this is a fact, even.Pray4Answer I suppose there's no way to reclaim the reactors that have been damaged? If not, what will they do with them? Scrap em? It's cheaper to scrap them than to repair them, and the damage is far too much to count on it. So yeah.

While I in no way am questioning whether the Japanese have put adequate preventions in place whithin their plant to minimize potential dangers, I don't think the results of this earth quake was completely coverd by their contingentcy plans. The best laid plans of Nazrin and men eh? I don't think the situation is as danger free as you putting it, but I would happily be a mere idiot swept into the media frenzy if it meant that you are correct.

Well the media frenzy tells everyone's gonna die so yeah. See: Three Mile Island, China Syndrome. Also the emergency preparations the japanese have put to pretty much everything is downright insane. I mean, the nuclear reactors here in danger would have normally been able to take the hit from a PLANE. Boeing tier, even. Take that, Al Qaeda!

Arch-Angel Stocking they're trying to put more pity onto themselves so the world would put more concern on them >.> Since a fair degree of the commentary on the situation seems to be coming from the international community, I don't think this is quite the case. More than likely, if this situation is being overdramtized, it is done for fear of nuclear meldowns in general. If the Japanese were going for sympathy, I think the scenes from the earthquake/tsunami would more than suffice. Chiyuri Kitashirakawa Well the media frenzy tells everyone's gonna die so yeah. While normally I am sure the plant would be quite safe, I do not think the results the previous earthquake had on the facility has left it running normally. I mean the sea water tactic that they are usuing seems hardly status quo, but a desperate measure to combat a desperate situation. Even now they are bringing everything and anything, from fire trucks to riot control water canons, in order to stay atop the situation. A number of the workers actively trying to control the situaton has recieved varying degrees of injury and radiation exposure. I know its not the end of the world, but I think the situation is still far from danger free. This seems like quite the dangerous incident, so where is that flying miko when you need her! (Don't tell me, I already know. She is probably sitting idly by being lazy and/or drunk at the shrine)

With all these major 'quakes happening in the past few years, along with other natural disasters, maybe the world really -is- gonna end next year? If so, I vote for a zombie apocalypse.
Either way, Mother Nature seems pissed.
